Aidon Elric Department of Mysteries | HPFC Topic #8: Harry as a Father Pokerface True Marauder
This topic was suggested by jrtpuplvr. I loved it, so I'm putting it up. Would Harry Be a Good Father?
This is a very interpretive topic for two reasons. A. We only see Harry as a father in the epilogue of DH. And B. Harry had no father growing up. Do you think this would effect his parenting skills?

Sweet. First post. *gloats*
Anyway. Well, I'm pretty sure he'd be exceptional. He knows how to love of course and he's a fun guy but can be firm when he needs to. Of course there was never a father in Harry's life to set an example, but even if there was, there's not many that starts out well as a father, so Harry would of course learn to be a good one. I don't really think the "no father" part of his life would really effect his parenting skills, though. I'm sure Harry will be a good one. |

I've thought about this a little before. Harry grew up being mistreated by the only father figure he knew. He was looked upon as less than human and Dudley was treated like some kind of prince with no rules or limits. Dudley was placed on a throne and Harry had to clean one.
With all of this, Harry did have some great father figures enter his life when he reach Hogwarts. Dumbledore was a very loving figure who treated Harry with respect and held him to a higher standard. Harry looked up to Dumbledore, like he would a father, and tried to learn from him, and make him proud. Harry also had Sirius enter his life. Even though Sirius wasn't around long, Harry was still able to experience unconditional love from him.
I believe with all these experiences, Harry would be able to see the value in being there for his children and loving them unconditionally. He had the Weasley family as an example for how a husband and wife interact and was able to see them raise all of their children. They even took him in as one of their own.

I don't think Harry ever saw Uncle Vernon as a father figure, simply because they've never treated him as family.
I think Harry will be an excellent father, he's looked to to Arthur, who's an exceptional and amazing dad. He's even had great respect for Lupin, then Snape. His relationship with Sirius was more of a father/son one to me. He'd be great.
He never had a Dad, so I'm pretty sure he'll make sure his kids have all the experiences he's never had.

^ I also think that he will try extra hard with his kids to give them a loving father who is there for them.

Yep! and I think he will be the one who is longing to have children because he wanted to have this experience as he didn't have a father.

Not having a father in the childhood would add as an advantage for Harry. He would be too much willing to show more love to his kids. He would have liked to show them the need of a father. Harry had never been with his father but that did not matter as he had had Sirius with him, even though for a short period. Harry kept Sirius in a place more than Godfather. Harry knew what was good and what, bad. He would surely be a great dad.
*I hated the Epilogue though*

Harry would of course be a wonderful father to his three children. Even though, as stated, he grew up without a father, he is a good and kind person at heart, and together with Ginny, he would become a great father. Harry has always had to be the mature one, so learning to become a good father would probably be easy to him.
Love from,
Amanda

I believe that Harry would go to the ends of the Earth for his children. All of the horrible things that happened to him as a child... he would want to prevent even the slightest thing from happening to his own. I agree that he had great father figures in Lupin, Sirius, and Dumbledore so that gives him a point of reference. Even Mr. Weasley was shown as a father figure to Harry. He had great men showing him how to love others all through his life so he will be a fantastic dad!!
