The topic was originally suggested by myself, so I hope you'll all find it interesting.
The relationship between Harry and Sirius.

We know that Harry has had a hard childhood and trusting doesn't come easy, so why does he trust his godfather so quickly and so completely? What makes their relationship so special?

Interesting topic! I think he trusts Sirius a lot coz he's the closest thing he has to his dad, he was James' best friend afterall. Also he could feel guilty about not originally trusting Sirius, so he's making up for it by trusting him loads now, he's doing this sort of... automatically if you know what I mean... *is thinking of complicated psycology*

I think Harry likes Sirus so much is because Sirus says Harry reminds him of his dad. And Sirus is the closest thing Harry has to his parents and such, so thats why he likes him.
of course, Harry always likes being told he's like his dad (except for a brief period in OoTP) and Sirius always says that, and even when he's not saying that Harry knows he's thinking it...

But I think that there must be more than just being told that he's like his dad. I mean, think about it. Do you like someone because they always tell you that you're like someone they're friends with? I rather believe that there must be some deep emotional connection. But why? Maybe because of some very distant childhood memories Harry has of Sirius?
Once again, I say coz Sirius was the closest thing to Harry's dad, but he also may have some memories of Sirius. Sirius was around for at least year of Harry's life... What might have helped is that Sirius offered to take Harry away from the Dursleys, that certainly made Harry like him...

I agree but I think that there was something even greater maybe even something in a distant memory like a sacrifice or sirius helping james from some terrible tradgedy
I think harry will remember something about Sirius in bk 7, I also think that Sirius isn't dead.... they will meet again

Cheers to Sirius returning in the next book! But we're getting off topic here.

I'd even go so far and call Sirius his substitute father. What I like about their relationship is that they trust each other so much, which I think is really beautiful, because Harry doesn't trust many people. Also, in Order of the Phoenix, during his angry!shouting time, Harry only listens to one person: his godfather.
^^ I agree, I thought it was so cute when Harry stopped Sirius and Snape fighting eachother, he doesn't want Sirius to do anything stupid! Sirius is Harry's closest link to the past, so he's very protective even though he's much younger.

I think he trusted him so much because he's basically like his father and the only family he had left. Plus, the fact that he didn't trust him before made him feel bad and I think they're really close and they just click with each other.
] In OoTP film they put in an interesting twist, which was Sirius calling Harry James I nearly cried... The makers of OoTP obviously think Sirius saw Harry as a replacement James!

He was the only living link to his father at that time. Sirius was the best friend of James and treated Harry like his own son. For a child to have never experienced that kind of love before, he would have had an almost instant connection to him.
^^ Both of them felt that way, Harry was a link to James for Sirius and Sirius was a link to James for Harry.

Sirius was the closest father figure for HArry, and it felt like sirius had been his father, although JAmes was the real one. But HArry had grown not seeing his real father so i think when he learned Sirius was his Godfather, he wants to feel or experience the love of father to his son

I agree, Harry really loved Sirius as his father, as he had never known his Dad.

I think all ya'll are right - Sirius was the closest thing Harry had to a father, unless you count Hagrid (who was more of a kooky uncle) or Dumbledore (more of a mentory-grandfather figure).
BUT I also like my own personal theory that Godfathers are just plain awesome and Sirius was an awesome person and therefore an awesome Godfatha. Plus, Harry and Sirius could relate - both had 'outlaw' characteristics to them and Sirius sometimes knew Harry better than he knew himself. Perhaps their connection is deeper than just man-to-man bonding....after all, Sirius knew Harry from before birth, like Jordan said....
I agree, the two of them had a deeper relationship...than just Godfather and Godson. They did have an extraordinary bond.

Yeah... what everyone else said...
Sirius was just the closest thing to a father to Harry. Maybe it felt like it too. They definitely loved each other and had an amazing bond and connected to each other. And... what everyone else previously had said, I totally agree.
How do you like that Harry named his son after Sirius?

Sirius is the only being who was his proper blood relation, Godfather. Harry who lived with the terrible Dursleys with no love showed to him for most of his life was moved very much when he was offered a request to live with his Godfather. That would have been the first thing that would have impressed Harry. The fact that Sirius was his father's best friend would have surely lifted Harry's spirits. Another thing is that, Sirius speaks things that arise in Harry's mind. They share exactly the same thoughts and feelings. The same thing goes for Sirius. He was moved towards Harry ordinarily because he looked exactly like his father and Sirius's best friend, James. What made it extraordinary for Sirius was that Harry had really believed him and wanted to move into Sirius's house immediately after he suggested the idea.
Sirius was the first true father figure in Harry's life. After living with the Dursley's, Harry really had no one, and while some will argue that he saw Dumbledore as a father figure, Dumbledore was more like a grandfather of some sorts. Arthur Weasley, too, could be seen as the first, but Sirius was really the first person Harry had found who was like his father and who treated him as both equal and son. How couldn't Harry trust Sirius? I expect that Harry saw it as a way to get to know his father also.
