Hi people, this is my first fanfic so I hope you like it! I won’t be able to post very often, but I will try for at least once a week!
Harry Potter's world and the characters in it don't belong to me; they're J.K. Rowling's. I do not nor will I ever take profit from writing this or any other of my own stories about them.

Chapter One

Lilly stared in amazement at the giant young man calling to the first years. Her older sister had told her about Hagrid, of course, but she had always thought Madeline (Maddi) had been exaggerating. However, this was, well, amazing! She glanced at her twin sister, Lila, and could tell they were thinking the same thing.
“Firs’ years! Firs’ years, this way!”
The booming voice rang out over the water and the twins quickly scrambled to join the queue of people all trying to get into a boat.
“No more’n four to a boat!”
Lilly and Lila were joined by two other eleven year olds, a black-haired girl with pale skin, and a boy with short, brown hair, and a sneer on his face. Lilly immediately decided she didn’t like him. Along the trip there, she looked excitedly at the castle, unable to wait before she could get there. She was staring as it got closer, and closer, and suddenly their boat stopped with a small bump at the shore.
The first years crowded out into the entrance hall. Lilly was gazing around in amazement when she felt a tickling feeling on her arm… and her other arm… and her back… and her head… and her face… When she reached up to brush of whatever it was, she felt a hard shell and realized she was covered in millipedes, spiders, and other creepy-crawlies. She shrieked, and Lila, looking at her, shrieked too. As a few other people realized that they were covered in bugs, the entrance hall was full of screaming girls and swatting hands. The door crashed open.
“PEEVES!” called out a voice full of authority. “Go away and leave these first years alone!”
At that moment, Lilly noticed that there was a small, rude looking poltergeist above their heads, dumping buckets of bugs randomly. He stuck out his tongue at the first years, and swooped out the door, dumping the last bucked on top of a young boy with blonde hair, who looked terrified. Maddi had told her all about Peeves of course, but that didn’t lessen her anger about being… bugged. While she thought about this, the doors to the Great Hall slowly creaked open.
The woman, obviously Professor Navella, (the Transfiguration teacher and head of Gryffindor house) told them,
“As I call your name, please come up and try on the hat.”
There was an old, ragged hat sitting on a stool in the middle of the hall. The enchanted candles let off a soft golden glow, and the people looked happy, ready for the feast and another year full of Hogwarts fun.
“Arkman, Henry”
Lilly waited with anticipation for her turn- she was positive she would be in Ravenclaw, that’s where her family had been for generations! And the professor called out,
“Daniels, Lila.”
Lila gave her one last look before walking down the aisle and to the hat. It was still just above her head when it shouted out,
“RAVENCLAW!”
Amidst the cheers of the table, Lilly silently cheered along. It only seldom happened that twins were put in different houses. Still, she was a bit nervous.
“Daniels, Lilly.”
Lilly put on the hat, thinking as hard as she could, ‘Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw, please Ravenclaw.”
She didn’t hear the hat speaking to her in her head, though. Instead she heard a metallic voice say
“Processing orders. Command sequence 28649, activate.”
And then, the hat shouted her house.
“SLYTHERIN!”

One more thing: can I change the title? I want to switch it to: The Year the Sorting Went Wrong. Still Sa9+ though.

Thanks people! Okay, here's another one, but it's kinda short, sorry.

Lilly sat there, unbelieving. Slytherin? What had she ever done to make the hat want her to be in Slytherin!? Still, she slowly stood up and walked, as if in a trance, over to the table. She noticed the boy from the boats, and made sure to get a seat far away from him.
“Drew, Patty!”
The Sorting continued, as if something tragic hadn’t just happened. The only person staring at her horrifiedly* was Lila, who looked as if a hippogriff had just stampeded through the room. When the Sorting finished, Lilly barely touched a morsel of the magical food, instead choosing to stare blankly at her plate, while sorting things out in her head. She shouldn’t be here, after all, her family was all Ravenclaws and Lila was in Ravenclaw. Plus, it had said that it was processing some commands… with some random number, so could it be that someone was controlling the Sorting Hat?
Lilly made her way down to the dungeons, and stopped, with the rest of the crowd, in front of a blank stretch of wall.
“Basilisk,” said a prefect, which must have been a password, because it opened up to show a large room with glowing greenish lamps. Lilly stumbled into bed, not able to think about anything as she closed up her trunk, magically here, and fell asleep the moment her head touched the pillow.

Far away, an evil maniac was laughing maniacally. His plan had worked! Now that he had had the student sorted into Slytherin, all he had to do was wait. And help influence. Seven years of Slytherins would get her to become evil, eventually. So, he would wait. But waiting bored him. Hmm, he was bored now, and boredom was one of his enemies! He should probably go kill someone… This crazy evil maniac was out to get Hogwarts, and eventually the rest of the world, and nobody is safe! Mwahahahaha!

*I don’t care if it’s not a word!

Oooh. I LOVE the surprise factor in this chapter. Really can't wait to find out about this evil maniac... I have all sorts of theories in mind, now! Though it would help if I knew the exact year. Hmm...

I'm not sure of the exact year either but... two generations before Harry Potter? Does that make sense with the other teachers? How long was McGonagall teaching for? If not, I can change the teacher. And yes, I like my crazy evil maniac! Mwahahhaahha!

Two generations would be... before James and Sirius? If it is quite a while before the time of the Marauders, I believe Professor McGonagall would not be a teacher. But fanon is an amazing thing, because you can alter facts, make some up as you go along, so don't be too worried. Of course, if you want to stick to cannnon, you should probably make the changes you feel are necessary. The choice is yours. ^___^

Sooo... did I mention I LOVVE this line? *points below*

Phew! I did it! I have no idea where this is going to go, so you'll just have to wait...

Chapter Three

Lilly walked along to potions with the rest of the Slytherins, still in a kind of daze. Suddenly, she snapped back to reality. ‘What am I doing here?’ she asked herself. She started to slowly edge out of the way of the group, but was herded back in by some prefect, 6th year, probably. His name was… Riddle? Tom Riddle? Something like that.
“Now, now, Miss Daniels, stay with the group. Wouldn’t want to get lost would we?” Something about his voice made her want to do what he said, just so that he would be happy… ‘No!’ she told herself firmly. And then she ran. She ran past staircases and doors, not caring where she was going. She ran up some, down some, through a couple of secret passages. She ended up in front of some old gargoyle with a twisted face. It was in front of what looked like a sliding door.
“Password, please.”
“What password? Who cares about a stupid password! Let me in! Now!”
“No password, no entry.”
Lilly kicked the stupid gargoyle. Even though there were billions of other ways she could go, she wanted to go through this door, the one with a stone gargoyle right in front of it.
“You want a password? Fine, I’ll give you one. Let’s see, ‘NOW!’”
“Password, please.”
Lilly angrily kicked it again.
“Oww, oww, owwwww!”
She hopped around clutching her foot. Then her stomach began to gurgle.
"Oh, why did I have to eat those peppermint humbugs last night?!”
Somewhere in the middle of her sentence, the gargoyle moved out of the way and the door slid open.
“Correct password.”
“What, peppermint humbugs?”
“Yes.”
“Ookay then.”
Now more curious than angry, Lilly walked up a long spiral staircase, and came to a magnificent room. No one was in it, but she was sure it was the office of the eccentric headmaster, Professor Dumbledore. She saw a phoenix in a cage, a bowl of snapping candies, and a cabinet that looked like the one her father kept his pensive in. And there, on a shelf, was the Sorting Hat. She glanced around furtively, but there was no one in the room. Tentatively, she reached out and put it on her head.
She heard a voice, neither like the metallic one from before or the one Maddi had said she heard. This one was oily, kind of slimy, but smooth, slippery like a snake. Somehow, she detected something cruel underneath it all, and an image of a tall, dark-haired man wearing a cape popped into her head.
“Lilly, Lilly, Lilly. How is everything? Do you like your house?”
“No! Why on earth did you put me in Slytherin? And who are you, anyway? That isn’t the voice of the Sorting Hat!”
“Why, of course it is! Who else would it be? I’ve just had a few… modifications. Now, Lilly, you shouldn’t hate the choice I made, you should embrace it! Why, I’ve known Ravenclaws who’ve begged to be switched to Slytherin, but, rules are rules. Now that you know you’ve been destined for greatness, you should hone your skills to make it better.”
“What are you talking about? And why am I even talking to a stupid hat?!”
Lilly tore the hat off her head and stomped back downstairs to be punished.

The evil maniac stopped the communication spell he had had running and smiled. She hated him now, yes, but she would come round. Of course she would. They all did, eventually. His most devoted followers all were reluctant at first, but he was… persuasive. He could wait. She would switch sides.
