yeah.. i never really was attached to Sirius in the first place.. so i still think he is ALIVE. Not in that denial of his death feeling.. HE CAN"T HAVE DIED. THERE IS NO HARD EVIDENCE! SOMETHING IS UUUUUUUP.

I also think it is very strange that there was no ceremony for his death, at least among the few people who knew of his innocence...

Yeah, she had just passed and seen Dumbledore. Somehow, I doubt that Tom would think much of Sirius because, afterall, Dumbledore is the only one that Tom ever feared (at least in dueling).

First Bellatrix makes herself an excuse; she was fighting. Then she tries to provide more information to prove her worth and value (so she won't be killed).

I hope Sirius really is alive, but I won't give my hopes up. He was the last person I expected to to die. I was almost sure it was going to be Dumbledore, because in GoF it kept stating how old and withered Albus looked.

I too think she was referring to Dumbledore as the one who was below them, not Sirius. She was warning him of that. Sorry to break your hopes.

Denial IS one of the first stages of grief...

I really want your theory to be correct, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Still, Dumbledore has said several things about death- it being the next great adventure, and that there are worse things than death. So hopefully that will lead to something...

While I doubt that Sirius is still alive, I think that she meant that he is there, below, among the spirits behind the veil. Or, most likely, she was talking about Dumbledore being there. So . . . yeah.

Sirius is DEFINITELY DEAD.

Never one to back down, you've had more detentions than anyone else in the history of Hogwarts. You'll prank anything that moves, but you're a good person at heart. You would never desert your friends if they needed you and would rather die than betray them. Did we mention you're rather handsome?

Your first name of Peter creates individuality, independence, self-confidence, initiative, and an inclination to physical activity. You are not inclined to merge your opinions and viewpoints with others, to accept compromise, or to work in a subservient position against your will. Your expression is invariably quite direct and candid, and lacks the moderating tone of tact, diplomacy, and friendliness. Others find it difficult to accept your domineering and, at times, argumentative manner. Your circle of friends is restricted to those of like nature. Once friendship is established, you are very loyal and steadfast and do not tolerate gossip or criticism. In your close associations and family life, there is little demonstration of sentiment, appreciation, sympathy, or encouragement. It is difficult for you to find the right words for such circumstances. Weaknesses in the health caused by this name centre in the head.
could this be any more wrong?

I am complete and total denial. I don't get why Jo had to kill of Sirius! He was (and still is) my favorite character. But I have hope, based on what you said, that he is still alive!

Sirius is dead. But how harry and luna heard whispering from the veil leads me to believe that it is more than just the door into death. I think harry will see or talk to sirius and maybe his parents and the veil and its mysteries will allow him to.

Luna said that "they" were hiding (referring likely to the dead inside the veil).
Where were they hiding and from where would they hide? Can they come back through the veil in some sense, or were they just staying behind the veil refusing to make themselves obvious (like the veil just covers them rather than acting as teh actual division)

The veil is going to be a part of the plot in future books for sure...JKR wouldn't just mention it and then not go into detail about it...and what about the mirror, something has to happen with that. I want to believe that Sirius is still alive, mostly because the circumstances around his "death" are so vague, but I don't want to get my hopes up and then be disappointed. I do hope he shows up in later books in some form then.  :o

...couldn't she just have written "and Bellatrix chanted Avada Kedavra and watched with glee as Sirius fell slowly to the floor." I think something's up with that.

Yeah, I think there's a pretty good chance that while Sirius is truly dead, he will make a comeback. I think Harry will see him again, one way or another. Like Luna said, "Didn't you hear the voices just beyond the veil?"

Well... Bellatrix didn't use Avada Kedavra on Sirius. It says she hit him with a jet of red light, and the Killing Curse is green.

Well, I think she did this, because she wanted us to keep thinking he wasn't dead if Harry didn't see the body itself. I know I kept thinking, 'no he's not dead cuz we can't even see his body' or something like that. But she prolly also wanted us to do what we all are doing now: questioning. But who knows, only JKR does.

Exactly...

I thoroughly enjoy questioning. I hope so much that Sirius isn't really dead, but I really think he is. It breaks my heart, but in interviews JKR was pretty firm on the fact that he is dead and won't be coming back.

I guess the only good thing about him dying is that he is back with James, and he no longer has to live with the fact that he could have prevented their deaths. That's a terrible thing to live with. Still...poor Sirius! Poor Harry! Poor Lupin!

Ahem. I'm done.
