| Yeah . . . but I mean that is just Rowling's style. She isn't about making things bloomin' or gory. It was so much about the death itself . . . it was about how it affected Harry, which is the big theme throughout the book . . . how all these occurrences and things affect Harry hisself. |

| I cannot say this enough times--
J.K. Rowling isn't about blood and gore. It's like that one person said up there--Rowling said that it's mroe about how she wanted to show how little killing people meant to the Death Eaters. I mean, the whole ASPECT of these books is how it affects HARRY. She doesn't want to go for a huge death scene--it could've gone cheesy so many times. It was a simple way of putting such a huge impact on Harry. |

| heres my points. feel free to argue'em.
---> dumbledore did NOT see that sirius was hit by red light, NOT the green light of avara kedavra (... interesting that JK does NOT kill sirius by the same method as his last parental-units)) (read from the bottom of 805)
---> harry does not ask dumbledore about the veil. honestly, dumbledore could think sirius died by avara kedavra, and that the veil had nothing really to do with DEATH, persay. (the lost prophecy chapter)
---> in the conversation with headless nick, nick mentions that theyre studying death at the department of mysteries (pg 861)
---> again, relating to what somepeople said earlier, sirius, osiris, life, death, rebirth diety, and the fact that rowling likes myths
---> luna lovegood talks, in a really odd place in the book, about the fact that her things will come back "they always do" ... does this have a metaphorical connection with sirius? is this hinting at something? luna lovegood is an odd character (never could put my finger on her purpose), and it was an odd conversation. (863)
---> harry never says sirius is dead. he never actually says it. a good example is this passage... it really puts it in the spotlight: "But some part of him realized, even as he fought to break free from Lupin, that Sirius had never kept him waiting before... Sirius had risked everything, always, to see Harry, to help him... If Sirius was not reappearing out of that archway when Harry was yelling for him as though his life depended on it, the only possible explanation was that he could not come back... That he really was..." she just plain doesn't finish the sentence! doesn't say it! theres alot of places in the book where he doesnt mention it, the second page of the lost prophecy chapter... but that quote really emphasizes his not saying it. (808)
---> finally, simply, its odd what each book adds to the story... book three is the only book NOT involving a run-in with lord voldemort. take a look at this summary of the what the books add to the overall plot, and let me know what you think. it is a bit... odd.
- 1st book: introduction
- 2nd book: delaying voldemort
- 3rd book: sirius
- 4th book: voldemort back
- 5th book: prophecy |

| We can speculate all we want on whether Sirius is dead or not. The final say rests with JKR and this is what she said in her BBC interview before the release of OotP:
"I had re-written the death, re-written it and that was it. And the person was definitely dead," she told the Newsnight program. Rowling said that her husband – also unaware of the identity of the doomed character – had suggested that she should not kill them off if it made her that upset. "Well, it just doesn't work like that. You are writing children's books, you need to be a ruthless killer," Rowling told her husband at the time.
As much as I hate to kill the discussion, it would be 99.99% certain Sirius Black is dead.

| No, ninak could have a point. J.K R has a way of twisting things, giving out red herrings. Leading us down the wrong path. |

| Messing with time is just too risky....In book three Harry actually sees himself before he does the time turner....so if they were to use the time turner then there would have been some sort of sign or something, and i think that rowling would have addressed it in book 5 instead of waiting until book 6, messing with time will only messed things worse... |

| | | *** was my favorite character! I'd give almost anything for him to come back, but I just don't think it's going to happen. I think Harry will be able to communicate with him somehow (maybe through the veil? He did hear those voices no one else but Luna could...perhap they were his parents talking?). But anyways, you aren't supposed to use time turners to change the past. It could ruin everything. If *** didn't die, it might end up with someone else dying... | |

| I just sat there and bawled my eyes out and hated Rowling for killing Sirius because I loved that character! And she snuffed him off in like, 2 paragraphs! But that's the thing - it was too abrupt. Maybe that'll play a part? |

| I dreamed about it for days and was so angry at Rowling. I cried in my sleep. It was...very wet. But I just hope that something comes out of it, hopefully sirius will still be able to make contact. Sirius is such a wonderful character, he is loving and a very strong person. I miss him so much... |

| | | omg! when i read the part where he died, it didnt really sink in, i just kept reading, it was like 1 in the morning and i had 2 go 2 bed, i had gotten a little bit past that and just as i was turning out the light, i realized that jk rowling said she was going to kill a character, and it didnt even register that he was actually gone. i just sat there for about 1/2 an hour trying to figure out what had happened. i didnt want to accept it because sirius was the best character and his death was completly unexpected and rather mysterious. i got so mad when it finally registered that i almost didnt want to finish the book. i mean, i was just so mad @ rowling for killing him off, and so mad @ harry for being a selfish little brat and not listening to hermione when she said that maybe he wasnt really in dange r and that voldemort was just counting on the fact the harry always "played the hero". i still am very angry and upset about the death. its just not rite, and now she has basically taken away EVERY bit of family he had. | |

| Trust me, I want Sirius back (probably more than anyone else in this thread) but I really belive that he is .. gulp... gone. Jo said that the character who died in this book would stay dead. I supposed if Sirius had to die, I'd have liked a more drawn out death... but then again, I wouldn't have because that would have meant a slow death and it would have been more painful for us to read and for Lupin and Harry to watch. And like DanLover said, J.K. can't write using blood and gore because she knows how young part of her auidience is. Jo used Sirius as a tool to show how sudden and shocking death can be, and how little it means to deatheaters. I think she conveyed that well, and personally I'm glad she didn't drag the scene out because I would have cried even harder. Sirius will get his death scene in later books when the characters talk about him and his life... that's my opinion at least. |

| | | Well, i read it just before going to bed so i couldnt get to sleep for a while! Then i sort of cried in the next three days, then i read the end again at a friends house i had "hay fever!"
I am sort of debating in my mind at the moment that there is NO evidence that he is actually dead so i will sort of prevent myself from crying with that thought! | |
