We are all aware of the cuts that had to be made from GoF. With this being a larger book, what do you think will be cut.

Personally, I think that since this book includes a lot of extra description, it probably has the best chance of staying wholly intact. That being said it will probably be the 3 hour movie a lot of HP fans are clambering for.

OOTP is more of a reflective book, looking at questions being answered, not like the action packed GOF, so i agree that it wouldnt be altered that greatly, but i think they would (as always) only include the vital information. Parts like the christmas at 12 Grimmauld place would probably only be really short, and i dont think the part about lockhart in st mungos would be included, because its not really necessary. Even though in the part with Lockhart the trio see the man who got strangled by the plant, the director would probably only make the trio walk past his room while getting to arthur's bed.

yeah , i wouldnt see them putting lockhart in, or some of the bits at the beggining where theyre spraying doxys.

i think that they will put in the whole lockhart scene because thats when Ron, Hermione, and Harry see Neville and his grandmother and find out about what happened to his parents. Also, that Bode guy gets a Devil Snare when they're there and it ends up killing him. That is one of the keys to this book I think, so I think this scene will be in the movie, although it will probably be more brief. I also agree with the Christmas part. I don't think there will be much of that in the film except maybe when Hermione, Ron, and Ginny talk to Harry about being under the Imperius Curse and all that. I can't wait for the movie to come out, and I really hope it is long!

I agree. The whole part about Neville's parents is vital to the storyline, because the prophecy could refer to ethier Neville or Harry, and there is a part about their parents in the prophecy.

I think they will cut out the parts with cleaning grimmuald place and things, and they will probably skip some parts in the department of mysteries, like when they are going through seperate doors. They will probably go through one door and find the brains and vial and bell jar and stuff in 1 room.

I don't think they'd shove it all in one room, it sort of defeats the whole purpose of having separate rooms. They'll probably won't go into the Death room before they go into the prophecy room.

I don't think that they will cut out the beginning with the attack of the dementors. I think that they might cut out some of the parts of cleaning of Grimmauld place. But I don't really think that they will cut out the trial. But hopefully they won't cut out a lot of the scenes from the book. Sorry for being a little crazy with my explanation.

I reckon the Quidditch will be less emphasized, like they did in POA, they will still show it, like the part with Harry and the twins getting out of the team, but more briefly.

Grimmauld place will have to be shortened, and maybe the trio will see Neville but not Lockhart or something. They will most likely take some sub-plots out but they have to keep in occlumency and Snape's memory- they are vital to the plot. I agree with the whole Quidditch thing- not to much emphasize there. I can not wait to see Umbridge and I hope they do a good job with her character. Also, I wonder how they will portray his dreams of the corridors and how many. I'm so excited.

I think Firenze might be cut. It isn't fair, but I have this 50% hunch that he will.

for the Lockhardt thing I could imagine that they're walkin' across a door on which is a name tag"lockhardt" or so and then in the next they will, per hazard, meer neville.

I think that this movie will have many flashs- so they may show the christmas part, but only in a 2 second picture-flash

I don't they'll show much of Trelawney being thrown out of the castle but I hope they will show the Weasley twinS leaving Hogwarts..ha!I wonder what THAT would look like!

I think that OOTP will be a 3 hour movie(YES!), and a lot not very important parts will be cut from the film....... but i HOPE they show when Harry punches Malfoy at a Qudditch match.

I hope that nothing gets cut out of this book! It's really good and everything plays a certain role. It'd be a pity if lots of stuff was altered or cut out. I think they'll probably cut the hearing at the beginning or the book shorter. If I had to cut something out, it would probably be when they're spraying the doxies and cleaning up Grimmauld place.

I think they will keep most of the storylines in the movie, but just cut them back a bit. For example: Harry's time in detention with Professor Umbridge . In the book he has several detentions with her, but in the movie they'll probably cut it back just enough to show the scar in his hand. I also wonder if they'll keep in the parts where Prof. Umbridge establishes the Decrees.

There's a lot of good scenes in the 5th book, and many are crutial. If it weren't for this book, I think there would be a lot less Mauraders RPing sites and fanficts, as people would simply lack information. I hope they include the penisive sceen, while I'm mentioning it.

I totaly agree with both of you. But who told you that the movie will be 3 hours??? I don't think so. They made GOF two hours and half althought there was alot of events. They will only shorten the story and will make the scenes go more fast.

Me 2. Since they have a new scriptwriter they'll be less cuts and cheesy scenes than when Steven Kloves wrote it. I can't wait to see everyone torturing Umbridge. WHEEEEE!!!!

I honestly think most of the cuts will be:

- the beginning where Dudley is attacked by a dementor will be shortened
- the scenes at Grimmauld Place will be much shorter
- there will probably only be 2-3 class sessions with Umbridge
- the entire Harry/Cho subplot will most likely be cut entirely
- the scenes that have Fred and George wrecking havoc on the school (the fireworks and their leaving the school) will probably be cut or drastically shortened
- Quidditch will be much less emphasized on, like in PoA
- the subplot involving Trelawney possibly getting sacked will be cut
- the scenes where the group enters the Department of Mysteries will be shortened

I think scenes at Grimmuald Place will only be severely cut from the 5th film only because it was more running around the house of Black and it was pretty much Harry's summer. They won't cut Umbridge since she is important later on. Dan has said on TRL, that there is a kiss in the next film. I have no idea if they will actually cut the Harry kissing Cho scene. The piensive scene won't be cut since we see Snape's past a bit and they might shorten scenes in the Department of Mysteries. But definitely Dumbledore facing Voldemort will be there. I really look forward to how they work the ending because the ending had alot of action.

i think though OOTP will haev more skimmed down bits not more cut out! but i d0ont envy the script writer he has a huge book to go though!

Yeah, I'm guessing Mrs. Figg too cause she wasn't in the ps/ss. Lockheart as well because the film makers have a massive obsession with cutting things. But Kloves is gone, so you never know. Less cheesiness I hope. Waaaaaaa! I like the elves though! They're so cute except for Kreacher. He adds a bit of comic relief to the beginning though. I hope they don't cut him out.
