i dunno about you guys but ever since i started reading Umbridge i have always imagined her like Kathy Burke (who is famous for her role as Linda in 'gimmie gimmie gimmie' and Perry in 'Kevin and Perry go Large')

But many think Wendi Peters should?

Do you think Linda Burke would play a good Umbridge? or should Wendi? or someone else?

Kathy is a british actress well known for her comedy parts.

If anyone is wondering how Kathy might be as a serious character you should take a look at her portrayl of Queen Mary (Sister of Queen Elizabeth 1st) in the film with Kate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth. Can't remember the name of the film.

Back to the point! Kathy was fantastic! Totally beleivable portraying an historical figure who had many problems in her life.

I still support Wendi Peters. She's been playing Cilla in Coronation Street for months now. She's got the real potential to be evil and can easily look like a toad.

Its Kathy's smile and stuff which i think is just Umbridge, and you can just image her voice being all sweet and sickening but so evil underneath, it would aslo be quite humourous, she isn't exactly the most serious actress lol

Kathy is most associated with comedy so I don't think they'd hire her. Plus HP is famous for picking the British creme de la creme and Kathy just isn't that really. Whereas Wendi received acknowledgement for her role in Bad Girls.

They need a serious actress for Umbridge because the actress needs to be able to deeply scare the audience to the point where they shudder.

Shame the actors/actresses are all British. The lady who played Adam Sandler's mother in "Water Boy" woulda been a cert. I can't remember her name at the moment but if you've seen the movie you'd have to agree her character screams "Umbridge."

It's not a shame that they're British. If they weren't, it'd be unauthentic and believe me, no-one can fake a British accent and make it convincing to a British person.

That'd be typecasting PHL, something all actors try to avoid.

Agree i think kathy would play her for laughs and that isnt what she is about i agree with the cilla from coronation street but i think they should have kept pam ferris for OOTP and not POA

Yeah I needa rephrase what i said.... Kathy Bates woulda been perfect had this not been a british film. -sideways glances at Emma- But the positive to an all british cast is the US is introduced to other good actors and actresses. Yall know we're in our own world over here. Guess I needa look up some movies with Kathy Burke in them.

They casted pre-OotP. If they had filmed PoA later, I think they definitely would've kept Pam for later. Having said that, she's already done the scary teacher thing so she might not have wanted to do it again.

I've only seen her in "gimme gimme gimme" in the days when i used to watch television.

She looks similar to what I imagine Professor Umbridge to look like.
But I think that my teacher at college is more suited.

I think both Wendi Peters and Kathy Burke could play the role! Perhaps Wendi moreso because we know she can be evil (didn't know she was in Bad Girls!) and she does have a toadish face. She's actually a really nice person so would be good, as you find good actors/people can be the best at playing evil, look at Tom Felton and Alan Rickman. How long is it till they start casting parts for OotP??

i think its hilarious, she is just so stupid and dumb its really funny, its true she is a comedy actress and may notpla a good serious character, but what attracted me to her is her image and her voice, its quite a girlish sweet, but sickening voice which is just umbridge.
