Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: Wand Fitting Instructions - PLEASE READ FIRST!
Instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: Example Post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You must RP to get your wand.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM Tegz and she'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as she can.

⌦ Have fun!

Cordelia ran through Diagon Alley to Ollivanders, closely followed by a care worker. Today was the day that she was finally getting her wand! It felt like she had been waiting a million years for this day. All of her older friends had been allowed to get wands before her, and it just wasn’t fair that she had to wait for so long. She wanted her own wand! Now the day had arrived when she and the other Stemp House kids her age were actually getting their very own wands. Entering the wand shop, Cordelia stepped up to the measuring area. The tape measure zoomed around her body, measuring her height, arms, legs, and even the circumference of her head. What did that have to do with her wand? Cordelia looked around the shop in awe as she waited for the measuring tape to finish. There were so many wands! She wondered which one would be hers. She couldn’t wait to try using a wand for the first time! Of course, she would have to show Drew her wand once she had it. When the measuring tape finally stopped moving, Cordelia stepped away from the measuring area and headed over to the counter. Watch out world, Cordelia Winklebleck was getting her wand! No more playing pretend in the garden with sticks for her, this was going to be the real deal!

Lucia was practically buzzing with excitement as she practically ran into Ollivanders. It was finally time to get her very own wand! This was a moment that she had been waiting for... for years! And now it was finally happening!

Pausing for a moment as she entered the shop she was slightly stunned. Shaking her head slightly to refocus she looked around, eyes catching sight of the measuring tape in front of her. That was probably where she needed to go. At least, she figured that was where she needed to be. Her eyes followed the measuring tape as it zipped around her, grinning at it. This was so cool!

Now... what to do after the measuring tape stopped zipping around as it was...?

Andrea walked into Ollivander's with an almost bored expression on her face. Her eyes scanned around the room, a faint spark of curiosity shifting in her eyes. That was the extent of response that she gave though.

Calmly, she walked over to the area with a measuring tape. She watched it flit around her, intrigued as she wondered what kind of spell it was that kept it going and whether that spell was the same one that recorded the measurements... actually where were the measurements recorded? That was something to look into.

With a single glance back towards her brother, who nodded at her encouragingly to go in first before turning back to his conversation with an old classmate whom they met outside Ollivander's, Harri stepped inside the wand shop. Blue irises regarded the entirety of the place, subdued excitement thrumming through her veins. She was finally FINALLY getting her wand.

She watched as some girls, probably around her age, got measured by a magical measuring tape then stepped up when it was her turn. She consciously touched her messy dark blonde hair as it wiggled into place to get her height and all other weird measurements.

Well?

What next?

The uncertainty of everything magical had given Odaline nightmares since the day she found out about it and this had been the worst one. The mere thought of getting a wand had knocked her for six when her mother told her about it and she had pleaded for the outing to just be Mother and her for less embarrassment. She had gotten her way after hours of pleading and presenting all the reasons she needed her wand allocation to be perfect and that embarrassment would not give her a perfect score in her wand assessment.

Because everything was a test and Mother had told her no different.

So the shock of having this tape swish and curl around her was incredibly high. So much so, that Odaline spent a minute or two bashing it away with her hands and went so far as to spit at it. Which was when Mother stepped in and whispered into her ear that she was causing a scene and needed to control her behaviour instantly. The few words changed the way the eleven year old stood, her back straightened and her head bowed to look at the floor and she let the tape do what it needed to.

Despite papa and daddy reassuring him time and time again during their nightly story time before bed that the wand chooses the wizard and that one would choose him...Noah remained unconvinced. Why would he be anyone's first choice? Or even anyone's choice? He was still firm in his conclusion that the only reason they had adopted him was because of Hazel was his older sister and he was a mandatory add-on. He loved his family, his papa and daddy, and adored his sister...but he was simply that: a forgettable add-on.

And he was beginning to regret his insistence on entering Ollivanders on his own. But he wanted to do this and have something that was just his, so he supposed he shouldn't be lamenting too much. Thankfully the measuring tape was distracting enough as it whizzed about him, arms held out as straight as he could manage. He wasn't sure why the measuring tape needed to know the circumference of his forehead in addition to the circumference of the mop of fiery red hair atop his head, but he merely shrugged.

And if it had been an attempt at humor, it was lost on the 11-year-old.

Curtis was proud. Mostly. He had been looking forward to this day FOREVER. Papa Javy and Daddy Piersie were outside waiting on him to get his wand. His first wand. Wow. There was a special gleam in his blue eyes as he eyed the interior. He remembered hearing something about how the wand making the real choice at his Primary school. So why was he mostly proud? Well, he knew as soon as he gets the wand he would have to use it only for school which didn't officially start for a while. Hmph. But he wasn't going to pout now, he would prove how good he was. Right here. Right now.. or at least before he left the shop.

So he went to get himself fitted. The measuring tape flew around him and over him, he laughed at the sight. It was pretty cool, despite him being a bit ticklish. But just as soon as the measuring started it was over.

Okay, now the next part.

Valencia practically dragged her father, Carter Phillips, kicking and screaming down the ENTIRE alley to get here. How come he was doing this?! He should be excited. She was the youngest and it was finally time for her to get a WAND.

This. Was. Mon. U. Ment. ALLL. Monumental.

She eagerly hopped her way over to the measuring area and waited excitedly, with her arms outstretched. She did her best not to move too much, but the measuring tape whisking about was memorizing.

It was also quickly over. So now it was just a waiting game. Then she'd be matched with her perfect wand. (Then she could show it off to her cousins.)

WAND!!! IT WAS TIME TO GET HER WAND!

While most kids her age did not enjoy shopping for school supplies, Jade loved every moment of it. She had been looking forward to starting her first year at Hogwarts since she was a baby - and now that the time was almost here, she was excited about EVERYTHING, from buying her school robes to getting brand new notebooks (because what could be better than doodling on fresh parchment?).

And of course, what she was most looking forward to was getting her very own wand. The wand chooses the wizard... or in her case, the witch. She had grown up seeing adults around her doing all sorts of magic with just a flick of their wand. And soon enough she would be able to do that herself! She was determined to master ALL the spells on her new textbooks and become the best witch in the entire Wizarding World.

But first things first, uh, measurements? Jade stood still and watched as the measuring tape zipped around doing its measurement thing. When that was done, she stepped away from the area and waited impatiently for her turn.

Isla couldn't express enough how incredibly exciting it was to FINALLY getting her own wand. Her very FIRST wand! She was so eager to have one, it was hard to refrain herself from leaping with joy.

She watched with awe in her eyes, her mouth agape as she let the measuring tape fly around her. A fit of involuntary giggles came out of her mouth when it tried to measure the length of her arms, shoulders, the bridge of her nose and even the circumference of her head! "Hey, that tickles!"

The strawberry-haired eleven-year-old stood patiently in line with the others. Isla wondered how long would it take for the wand to choose its wizard or witch. She hoped she had enough galleons to spare for her new wand. If not, she would have to call her daddy who was waiting outside with her mama.

Florian had worked tirelessly in his small wandshop for hours prior to its grand reopening for summer vacation. Due to his efforts, fresh flowers were now beautifully presented on gleaming, polished surfaces, and the displays held a special glow as he'd taken care to clean every shown item. There was a noticeable, pleasant floral scent permeating the space and once he'd finished properly brewing coffee and tea for his soon-to-be patrons, the wandmaker had shifted.

It was easier to nap in his animagus form (a large white wolf)... Less chance of wrinkling his clothing. And he rested easily on the soft rug between his armchairs, not-so-secretly ready to dazzle the first few children with real magic.

As it was, the doors were already unlocked and opened, ready for the first excited child to enter.

Still in his wolf form, Florian lazily observed as children began trickling into the shop. They looked so excited and eager, that he yipped happily in their directions, not moving to shift back quite yet. Later, he'd be slammed with customers, wall to wall, but for now, he wanted to simply enjoy the magic. Luckily, the measuring tape seemed to be behaving today. So far. He fully expected it to become more irate as the day wore on. As was it's way.

After a few more moments, he stood and gave a BIG STRETCH...before promptly shifting back into his human form. JAZZHANDS! The man was grinning widely as he casually retook his place behind the counter, snatching the hovering parchment bits from the air as he did so. Each piece was adorned with a series of numbers. Measurements. He made quick work pairing each set with the appropriate child, Florian had an eye for these things you see... "Hello to you all...and welcome to Ollivanders! Help yourself to whichever flowers you'd like and I'll return shortly with wands."

After a short time, the man returned; arms laden with various wand boxes. Never fear, dear children. He knew where each was potentially going. They were his best guesses, but there were others that could also work. It would depend on them, of course. Magic was drawn from within, after all.

"Alright, young miss (griffin). You first." Carefully unboxing the first wand, Florian held it out to the child, handle first. "This one has a kick, so a simple swish and flick should do it."

--

Wiping his hands down his pants leg, he hurried to collect the second of his collected wands, seeking out another of this small group (Sugarquillz). Florian beamed at her happily. "I believe this one might belong to you. The core is a potent one, so careful." The wood was one of his favorites, personally.

--

"Alright.... Some warning with this one. The materials have heavy associations with the fire element, so it won't take much. A simple point will do it." Due to some traumatizing experiences with backfiring wands, the wandmaker gave the young lady (Lost In Thought) a wide berth to work. It was a powerful wand, but the core could be volatile. Only a few could harness it.

--

Breathing a bit easier, he unboxed the final wand and presented it to the last child (Zannash) of the starting group. This wand was of a gentler nature and that told Florian this small girl was probably going to be sorted a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. He'd gotten very good at telling the difference. An easy smile was offered. "This one is more subtle, but no less powerful. It's okay to use some force."

After taking a break to put the unbought wands away, Florian wiped counters down and awaited the next child. And she was just finishing up with the tape, producing a parchment piece that hovered for mere seconds before he snatched it. After a quick analysis, where he paid special attention to the width of her left nostril, he grabbed a few lavender sprigs. For her, of course. Everyone was gifted flowers when visiting this shop.

"These are you for you, missus. I'll return shortly." And with that, the wandmaker was slipping off to the stacks to search. It took longer than expected to find the specific wand he had in mind, but eventually, he was rejoining the fray.

"Let's see what you make of this, yeah?" As with others, it was being presented handle first. "Go on."

It always brought a smile to his face to see small children have pleasant experiences with the magical measuring device. It was a funny little piece of equipment. Dead useful, too. Once the girl finished, Florian waved her over, selecting a few different colored tulips, all varying colors of purple and yellow. They were vibrant and vivid; pretty. When she approached, he held them out for her to take.

"These flowers are you, madam." A touch of drama was added to his tone, as it was reaching that time of the morning when his coffee was finally making an impact. Caffeine could be funny like that. Only then did he take a gander at her numbers. "I predict a winged animal as your core." Phoenix, Fwooper, or Hippogriff feather.... One of those, surely. "Be right back."

....Only, he wasn't 'right back'. It took no less than ten minutes to find the wand he'd had in mind. In fact, he'd only managed to find it because he remembered grouping it with those recently polished that morning. "This is it. Maybe." Fingers crossed! "I suggest a firm wave." Go on!

She'd earned a small bouquet, so the wandmaker busied himself with throwing together color-coordinated blooms. Red zinnias and lavender calla lilies, both springtime flora... "I apologize for the invasive measuring tape. It has an attitude at times." With a grin, he handed the bundle of flowers off. "Enjoy those....and I will see about getting you a wand to try."

Does just that, too, ambling back to the counter wearing a rather determined expression. "Give this one a try."

It wasn't unusual to have children wandering in on their own, but Florian was a bit taken aback by the seriousness. Small children weren't usually this grave. He wasn't judging, but it did make him a little sad. First wands were meant to be exciting, happy times. Hopefully he could coax a smile from the kid.

"If you'd like to help yourself to some flowers, you may." The selection was vast and vivid this summer, so the little boy was more than welcome to take whatever he wished. In the meantime, there were measurements to consider, so those drew his complete focus.

Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Without a word, the wandmaker disappeared into the stacks, sorting through the inventory for this or that. He mind was a strange place and it was typically unwise to question these things... but he usually found success! Yes, it took mere minutes for him to find what he'd been searching for. And if he looked entirely too pleased with himself, well.. That was another matter all together.

"Alright!.... Take hold of that and give it a firm swish!"

Happy kid equaled happy wandmaker. Yes, indeed! As with all those that had come before him, Florian pulled the parchment from its hovering position. For analysis, and such. After a cursory glance, he gathered this wand might be a bit special. One of the more rare woods he carried at this shop.

"Welcome to Ollivanders, young man. Excited?" ... Florian collected a few sprigs of lavender for him, before handing them over. "Those are for you...and I'm going to head back." ...He had a wand in mind that might work, but was cautious due to the materials that were used in it. Actually, it was one of the first he'd ever personally made after coming to work for Ira Banner. So, it took little time to go right to it.

Hm! "Alright, now a disclaimer, this wand has a bit of a kick. So... a simple point should do it." Or, actually, simply grasping it should be all they need to see, but each child was different. "Go on, then!"

Well, Florian could tell that he was in the presence of quite a determined young lady. Call it that special intuition he'd mentioned before. As he waited patiently for her turn at the measuring tape to finish, he mindlessly wiped at his counters. He took his shop's tidiness very seriously! He didn't have to wait long, of course. It seemed like mere moments before he was ushering her closer.

"You did well! You may treat yourself to a few flowers, if you wish." The wandmaker had gotten better about pushing his flowers off on people. It hadn't occurred to him that not everyone would appreciate them properly, so now... he had to gauge the situation more closely. So that his customers never felt uncomfortable. With a wave of the small bit of parchment, he grinned. "I have a few ideas in mind for your wand. Hold tight." With that he was off and searching out Rowan wands. This child definitely fell into that category. There was an aura.. Rowan wands were very special.

Hmmmm. Yes, yes. "Okay.. give this a wave. See what you make of it."

The strawberry-haired eleven-year-old stood patiently in line with the others. Isla wondered how long would it take for the wand to choose its wizard or witch. She hoped she had enough galleons to spare for her new wand. If not, she would have to call her daddy who was waiting outside with her mama.
It was during these lulls in activity that Florian longed to shift back into his animagus form. Not to nap, so much as just... bask in the special freedom it allowed. It was a powerful feeling, being able to go from one form to another. He felt the itch beneath his skin.. Perhaps during his lunch break... Yes. Until then, he contented himself with the happiness of the children and parents... Though, the parents seemed more haggard than the previous.

He'd find out all about that soon enough!

After a moment...and the tape completing it's task, he gestured for the small girl to step forward. "Welcome to Ollivanders! Valencia accepted the flowers and happily admired them. Magic was amazing. She rubbed the petals between her fingers wondering how long it would take until she was able to conjure flowers like this.

She was so deep in thought that she didn't notice when the wand man came back.

"Hm?" She blinked several times before remembering what happened. Right. Wand testing. She carefully took hold of the wand presented to her. She licked her lips and tightened her grip before giving it a firm swish and flick. She slowly exhaled a breath before grinning. She whispered, in awe, "It's like... a rush, isn't it?"

SPOILER!!: Florian!

SPOILER!!: griffin, Sugarquillz, Lost In Thought, Zannash!

Of course, not everyone reacted to the tape in a favorable manner. As the small girl flailed her hands and pushed the device away, it only became more aggressive in trying to complete it's task. Aggressive and snappy. Florian covered with mouth, hiding his amused smile. Terrible, but also...perhaps it was time to replace that menace of a measuring device.

Kaira grinned quite excitedly and nervously as she was handed her very first wand. The shopkeeper was very cheerful and that helped calm her nerves. 'Thank you,' she said,as she took the wand from him gingerly and held it firmly in her right hand.

Here goes nothing, she thought as she swished and flicked her wand.
And there was magic!

Beautiful fireworks erupted from her wand. She stared at them with great joy and abundant surprise 'Wow,' she mouthed.

Cordelia heard the yipping and looked over to see a large dog - no, a wolf. Aww, could she play with it? Did it belong to the man who owned the shop? Cordelia loved dogs. It wasn’t long though until the wolf was replaced by a man. The young girl gasped in amazement at the transformation. Did anyone else see that? The man had just appeared out of nowhere! Cordelia had never seen anything like it. He was the wolf. That was soooo cool!

She was FIRST to get a wand! Cordelia eagerly grinned as she waited for the man to take the wand out of the box and listened impatiently as he explained what to do. How could a wand have a kick to it? There was only one way to find out, and that way was to try the wand for herself. Cordelia took the wand from the man and firmly gripped it in her hand. Confidently, she strongly swished the wand to the right and gave a sharp flick at the end. Golden sparks shot out from the end of the wand. She looked up at the wand man, waiting to see what his reaction would be. “What do you think of this one?”

And if he looked entirely too pleased with himself, well.. That was another matter all together.

"Alright!.... Take hold of that and give it a firm swish!"
Any other happenings that were going around Ollivanders were lost on Noah, his faded blue eyes instead remained fixated on the tape as it went about his business and he found himself almost wanting to apologize to it for not having much to measure. He was scrawny and lacked in height, measuring up to very little overall.

Offering a simple, but polite, shake of the head at the offer of flowers - he wasn't sure where to put them if he did take any nor did he entirely understand what taking flowers had to do with receiving a wand. If any wand selected him at all, that is.

Which explained the very real reluctance that had seized his fragile frame as he looked at the wand the man was offering. There was something to say about the foreign comfort the wandmaker's chipper persona. An enthusiasm that reminded him very much of his papa in a way. Swallowing somewhat thickly, the red head reached for the wand with trembling slender, and rather bony, fingers and just baaaaaaarely brushed his fingers over the wood as though he expected it to shock him. It was only because nothing happened that he allowed his fingers to coil around it....and then held it out in front of him.

A firm swish. Right.

His grip was firm, knuckles even white from it, but his swish left much to be desired. In fact, it read much more like a gentle tap of the air.

Walking into the store she looked around, taking in the rows and rows of boxes, mouth opening slightly as she took it in. You couldn't deny that it was impressive, although a little scary.

With butterflies in her stomach, she walked over to the area where the measuring tape was waiting and held out her dominant arm, thinking that would be the only measurement it needed. It wasn't, but it was genuinely fun watching it zoom around, so she couldn't help but smile. When the measuring tape finally stilled, she moved along, trying to hide her slight nervousness.

Skeet was practically SPRINTING ON HIS WAY to Ollivander's the moment his mum and dad brought him and stinky Sawyer to Diagon Alley. And of COURSE, he outran his stinky older brother in an unannounced race for the wandshop because he was the better Sayse son. There was no other explanation for that, obviously.

Pushing the door open, Skeet wasted no time as he directly charged for the wand fitting area and he was very much trying hard—to no avail, by the way—not to bounce on the balls of his feet as the magical measuring tape fluttered around and around him, taking note of the eleven year old's height, arm length, and even the circumference of his HEAD. He would normally make a judgey face towards that... but eh, this was hIS WAND. HE WAS GETTING HIS WAND.

"I'm ready for it! Bring it on!" He said loudly once the tape was done doing its thing.

"WOOOOWW!" Curtis yelled aloud.

Now Curtis wasn't scared at the big wolf appearing in, since his Papa always took care of magical creatures he got to see plenty. Oh, it wasn't the Wandmaker's pet. It was the Wandmaker himself!

Wow. His family didn't mention that people could change from animals. The special sparkle in his eyes may have shined at bit at the thought. But now it was his turn to get his wand. Curtis nodded enthusiastically, "Does it hurt changing like that?" He managed to ask before he went off to get a wand for him to try out.

Neat. "A simple point, okay!" Hmm, now what could Curtis do? Well, just a point? So no need to think much. Taking the wand he felt a nice warmth automatically. It was comfy, so he smiled.. before aiming randomly at the wall and pointing with a sharp jab. He felt even more warmth, this had to be the one! And then....

POW!

Curtis felt himself shoot back onto the floor. Wow! He was not kidding about the kick. He was surprised before he started laughing as he bounced right back up. "Wow! That was cool!" Maybe not the mark if there was one he left on the wall he aimed. But it did respond to him nonetheless.

She tried to smile back, but found herself feeling creepy in her smile, so instead she just said a meak, "Thanks."

Mary delicately grabbed hold of the wand. She, with some hesitation, flicked it quickly, but lightly. At first, nothing happened, then some purple sparks exploded from the end with a whistling and cracking sound.

She did well! Woohoo!

"Thanks!" Jade chirped as she took a few pretty daisies. She loved flowers, but was definitely not the best at taking care of them. Hopefully these ones would not die too quickly... or get eaten by her cat. She wondered if they were going to learn how to take care of daisies in Herbology. That was one of the many many classes she was looking forward to taking.

Before she knew it, the wandmaker was back and handing her a wand. It was... for lack of a better word, beautiful. Would this wand choose her? The eleven-year-old admired it for a moment, then, her heart racing, took it with her free hand. Instantly, she felt a pleasant warmth spread from her fingertips. With a grin on her face, she raised the wand over her head and gave it a wave. Golden sparks were emitted from the end of the wand. This was awesome!

"I LOVE IT." Jade told the man. What did he think, hmm?

"Hm?" She blinked several times before remembering what happened. Right. Wand testing. She carefully took hold of the wand presented to her. She licked her lips and tightened her grip before giving it a firm swish and flick. She slowly exhaled a breath before grinning. She whispered, in awe, "It's like... a rush, isn't it?"
Florian frowned, underwhelmed by her response to the wand. Perhaps the child was a bit in her own mind, but still... There would be some type of outward showing. "It can feel like a rush, but I think we can do better. Let me get another option for you."

He had collected a few possibilities, so if not this one, another of those. Just as before, there was a long pause in which he reconsidered each box. Hm... "Alright, let me take that one from you and you give this one a shot. Trust me.. if it's the right wand for you, you'll know." It wasn't something he could decide. It truly depended all on her.

Here goes nothing, she thought as she swished and flicked her wand.
And there was magic!

Beautiful fireworks erupted from her wand. She stared at them with great joy and abundant surprise 'Wow,' she mouthed.
Now that was more like it! He applauded loudly, excited for her to have been paired so quickly. It wasn't everyday a young witch held her first wand. Producing magic, however small, for the first time could be life-altering.

"Great job!" He took quick stock of the materials used and beamed, ultimately pleased that his intuition had led him in the right direction. "That wand... is ten and two-third's of an inch in length, crafted in sturdy Acacia; a reasonably rare wand wood." It wasn't among his favorites, considering how difficult the wood could be to work with, but it was a powerhouse material. "These types of wands are highly intuitive, meaning it will be sensitive to the nuances of your magic. Or if you have an interest in the more complex aspects of magic, this will be the perfect companion for you.

....and it goes without saying that you'll have marked success in creating spells of your own one day if you work really hard at it. The Unicorn hair that's encased in this wand suggests a knack with healing magic, charms and Transfiguation spells." Transfiguration wasn't a difficult branch of magic for him personally, but he knew many full grown adults that struggle with it. So it seemed nice to have a bit of extra help in that department.

"Would you like accessories?"

In Florian's experience, golden sparks were a very good sign! As he had with the child before this one, he began clapping loudly at her success! Not to puff his own chest out or anything, but it did feel pretty great when he could get it right on the first try. It didn't always work out that way, but...

Also... "I believe it's a match, but.. if you don't, then we can try something else." The truth of the matter was that each reaction was different, just as each child was different. The materials of the wand this young lady was holding suggested something more volatile, but her magic could've tempered it. Essentially, wands were conductors.. "...What you're currently holding is eleven inches of supple Juniper. If you'll take a closer look at the wood work, you'll notice faint swirling patterns.. It's attractive, but also... It smells wonderful. Sweet and crisp." The polish he'd used didn't alter the scent too much, in fact. What else... Honestly, the information was plentiful. "There are books that clearly state these types of wands are difficult to steal, as they always find their way back to their original owners. Which is a relief, yeah?" Were younger people in the habit of stealing wands from other children? Florian had no clue.. "You'll find success with flying carrying this wand. As well as Apparation, when the time comes."

"Paired with the Phoenix feather core, you'll have a powerful tool at your disposal. Specifically in learning defense against dark magic." It was a great wand, and she'd do great things with it, he was assured.

Whew, information overload! "So, what are you thinking?"

And then, his worst nightmare.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

No sparks. No humble explosions. No tingling in his fingers. Nothing.

As a wandmaker, Florian prided himself on a certain amount of intuition, meaning he'd known from the jump that something was off. He could've been misreading the signs, but if his gut was to be believed, this small boy was blaming himself. It wasn't a failure on his part, but one on Florian's.

Alright, new strategy.

"You know what, would you like to come take a look with me?" Perhaps he could help... It wasn't just about pairing children with wands here. No, the wandmaker wanted everyone who passed through Ollivanders to feel pride in themselves... Getting a first wand was an important rite of passage. It marked the beginning of new adventures. He very much felt a responsibility for all these children.

Some time after lunch, Florian had gotten caught up with putting spare wands away. For the most part, he was having reasonable success, but there were a few that presented a problem. Tricky, tricky. As an aside, he really needed to consider hiring some help. He was looking at getting married soon. An assistant would really take some of the pressure off.

ANYWAY.

This seemed to be a day dedicated to young witches, as yet another small girl got herself measured. She seemed remarkably calm in the face of the magical tape, so as a reward, the wandmaker busied himself collecting a few tulips in different shades of blue and purple. Once she made her way to the counter, he held them out for her to take. Always with a smile in place. "Hello, there! These are for you." After handing them over, he plucked the bit of parchment from the air and considered the numbers printed there. Ah, he had some ideas!

After he'd left to retrieve one of the options, he made his return, handing the wand off for her to try. "A swish and flick, if you please."

Again, happy child equaled happy wandmaker! And a rare boy in this sea of ladies today.. Florian laughed outright at the excitement emitting from him, and felt himself get a morale boost from it. Days in the shop could be long and tedious, so it really depended on the children and parents to keep spirits high. Again, he needed to get someone in there to keep him company.

No flowers were put together for the young ser, but that didn't stop them from being offered. "Welcome to Ollivanders! Please help yourself to flowers. Take as many as you'd like... Gift them to your parents." Namely his mother, but men could enjoy them, too. So, no judgment there. As he spoke, he was already pulling his measurements closer, taking a quick gander at the numbers. Right, right. This was another that would pair with a rare wood. It was a day for his rarities.

Hm. He disappeared into the stacks without another word, his mind keeping a running list of options and throwaways as he passed each shelf. Hmmm. Maybe this one? Florian snagged the box from up high and toted it back towards the front counter.

"Now, I must warn you! It won't take much for this wand, so just a point should be enough." Meaning it had some power and needed to be handled with care. Please, and thank you.

.............. Well, Florian had warned him. But also, it wasn't everyday he paired an Elder wand. He sorted three every five years. So, those statistics alone made him wary of potential in-store mishaps. He'd been prepared to step in if need be, but his worries were for naught. That was a relief.

"Congratulations! You have been paired with an Elder wand." JAZZHANDS! No, really... it was one of the most rare woods legally available for purchase. And it went without saying that it was equally as powerful, as it was difficult to obtain. "Not to be confused with the Elder wand from the history books. That wand allegedly contained the hair of Death. Capital 'D'." Allegedly, because history could be a touch flowery at times. "... but when you strip the core away, what you're left with is a wood that is deceptively adaptable. It will depend heavily on your own temperament, of course, but you won't find a better companion for defensive magic and healing spells..." But it could also go in the opposite direction with dark magic and curses. Florian chose to leave that part out of his spiel.

"A Dragon heartstring, taken from a Swedish short-snout, is encased within. Dragons are protective creatures and as fierce as they are loyal. Your defensive magic will get a noticeable boost, as well as any spells that are fire-based." The wandmaker paused, for several moments before speaking again. "It's a great responsibility to have a wand of this nature. And shouldn't be taken lightly." Bless this child's parents.

"You'll need accessories, sooo what shall it be?"

Ahh.... the good ol' delayed response. For a moment there, Florian thought he'd be searching again, but some children had magic that was so subtle it took a moment to kick in. Every child was different, after all.

"Wonderful job!" Some encourage never went amiss. Especially with children so young. "That wand is made from light Hazel, ten an two-thirds of an itch. On the marker, it's one of the more loyal wand woods, not at all made for one who leans towards negative thoughts and emotions. I must warn you.... it tends to absorb negative energy and expel it in random, unpredictable ways. Namely if a stranger tried to use it, that the wand wasn't familiar with." See, very loyal. "It would have dire consequences for that person." The wandmaker tapped his chin thoughtfully, trying to recover more miscellaneous information from the well that was his mind. Oh! "...Something quite neat, you'll have silvery, tear-shaped emissions when passing over hidden water sources. So... logically, you'll have a good wand for braving the outdoors. For camping, and the like." Not everyone was skilled at Aquamenti, so that was useful.

"Combined with the Unicorn hair core, you'll have an effective tool for creature and plant magic." Mhm. Quite a wonderful wand to have at one's disposal.

"Can I grab a jar of wand polish for you or a holder?"

Awww! He adored that she loved her new wand. As she should! It was quite a good one, made specifically for someone inherently good and selfless.

At least, that's what the Rowan wood dictated from history. It was hard to know the future unless you were a Seer, so he supposed anything was possible. He hoped for good things in this young lady's future, however. "Wonderful! Golden sparks are definitely a good sign, so good job!" Now for the spiel about this wand in particular. Hmmmm. "You're holding ten and a half inches of Rowan wood, a wood that has significant power where magical shields and wards are concerned." So... this young girl would be quite successful in a duelling arena, if she so chose to follow that path. He remembered his duelling days. Fun times!... What else...? "Something special about this wood... You'll have power in warding off spells that affect the mind, which is super helpful considering that's most charms." He grinned at her, amused at her happiness. Good for her.

"The Fwooper feather within will cause some issues in casting Quietus, a charm to muffle sounds, but... otherwise, it's a wonderful all-purpose wand to have in one's possession."

"Can I get you accessories?"
