Hogwarts RPG Name: Ariel | Who is the worst cast actor in Harry Potter?
For a while now I've been really bugged by the casting of adult Lily and James Potter - the actors are far too old!
Are there any other characters people think have been badly cast?

They aren't too old are they? I mean.. HP and the sorcerer's stone is from 2001. HP is supposed to be 11 then, so born in 1990. The actor that plays James Potter was 32 then, and the actrice that plays Lily Evans was 23. I don't know how odl your parents were when you were born, but these ages are not quite uncommon.
I hated Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart, I didn't picture him like that, I don't like the actor, and he just doesn't really suit the role I think.
And Clemence Poesy as Fleur Delacour, she did allright, but they changed the role of Fleur compared to the books. Not at all what I expected, she was a bit too bland. Pretty, but bland.

Yeah, I see Fleur as having more spice and sparkle, too. They could have found another actress that offered more to the part.

I am talking about the ages they were meant to be portraying, not the actors themselves.
Geraldine Somerville was born 19 May 1967, which would have made her 33/4 when the movie came out, but Lily Evans died at the age of 22/3, so Geraldine as Lily Evans was too old.
And Adrian Rawlins was born 27 March 1958, which would have made him 42/3 when the movie came out, but James Potter was also 22/3 when he died, so again, he is too old.
And I'm not quite sure where my parents come into it - this has nothing to do with the age of parents when their children are born, just the ages the actors were supposed to portray.

Ah ok allright you actually have a point there.. It was just a quick reply I typed up there, but guess I was thinking more along the lines of the times you see Harry's parents as ghosts or in the mirror of Erised. But guess I didn't think too clearly now, because their ghosts wouldn't age actually. Hm.
Oh and by the way I didn't really have a clue how old Harrys parents were when they died. I thought they would have been older, because the ages they were meant to be when they died seems a bit young to me to be having a son of a year old. But maybe that's just me.
Anyway, you're absolutely right then. They are not so well casted then, maybe because the general public would have trouble seeing them as Harrys parents if they would have been portayed by younger actors?

Possibly - to be honest, I didn't know how young they were either until I read something on JK's sight. I was like, 'oh!'
But, despite their age, I still don't imagine them like that.

There are two for me....
Alan Rickman as Snape. I think he plays him too droll, a little too comical. The way JKR describes him, he's supposed to look more menacing. I don't know if it's the direction or what, but I think there could be someone out there that it would be easier to hate.
And Michael Gambon. I think he's an awful Dumbledore. Case in point: in GOF, right after Harry's name comes out of the goblet, Dumbledore runs at him and like snarls in his face asking him if he'd had another student enter him. Dumbledore does not actually do this; in fact I don't think Dumbledore raised his voice at all until HBP. He's just all wrong for the part. Again, I don't know if it's the direction or the actor. It's just off.

harry's parents were supposed to be 21 when they died so obviuosly the actors that they cast were too old to play them..and clemence poesy i think she is pretty, but not pretty enough to play someone who's part veela!

His name is Michael Gambon, and he's pretty awesome, but he's a little too violent for me as Dumbledore. But, then again, I didn't like Richard Harris as Dumbledore either because he always looked like he was moments from death. Which obviously he must have been.
I don't think Michael Gambon is a terrible actor. In fact, I think he's a pretty decent actor, but I don't think he suits the part of Dumbledore thus far, what with running around giving everyone shaken baby syndrome. I used to answer Emma Watson to this question because, as much as I like her, she's never been a fantastic actress. But I really think my answer would be Tom Felton. He looks like a good Draco, but he's really a terrible actor. Which sucks, because Draco's character becomes so much more important in Half Blood Prince, and they've sort of shoved him into the background for the last two movies or so.

I just....I don't think she's Hermione-ish-enough...if that makes sense. She doesn't seem bookwormish and know-it-all ish and they play her up too romantically. I don't know, she seems to always look perfect, not a hair out of place, whereas Hermione's always busy with SPEW and homework...etc...Hermione seems more frazzled and quick-witted than Emma Watson. Also, I have jealousy issues. Because I would've LOVED that part. *sigh* ^ Oh, and I totally agree with the whole shaken-baby-Michael Gambon thing. I was sitting there going WHOA, DD, what're ya doin??!? And why does his beard look like a ponytail anyways???

Hogwarts RPG Name: Isla Pervell Fourth Year | Hmm, I always imagined Snape just like Alan Rickman, I think he did a good job.
I imagined Hagrid heaps bigger - same with Madame Maxime, but I guess it's hard to get any emotion, or good acting happening between to people who are completely different sizes...

in my opinion the worst would have to be Michael Gambon. he's very aggresive not at all like Dumbledore's personality and approach. He's also very loud. he shouts at harry all the time and there's really not much compassion in his expressions.

Sylvia Elisabeth Potts-Addams Magical Creatures | I think Draco now is just childish in the movies. In the books he seems more sinister, but on the big screen, he's waaaaay to comical. The writers need to loosen up on the comedy and add a sinister like attitude for Draco. |

He is a little scary with all the shaking and yelling, but I vastly prefer his Dumbledore to Richard Harris. He just looked like he'd fall over dead any second.

ok everybody is gonna hate me but.... I think daniel radcliffe is sooo bad..
I don't picture harry like that... I think he's too eager and unemotional and the way he says things makes me want to step into the movie and yell at him :$ he buggs me but.. I guess I have to live with that because he's the one who plays him... so

Hogwarts RPG Name: Neva Amos Graduated | Rock Away Blind | You Could Be My Silver Springs Blue Green Colours Flashing | Paper Penguin I wouldn't say that anybody was poorly cast. We all had mental images of how the characters would look before the first movie was released, but I feel that each character was well and truelly done justice too. In all honesty, I had never expected Snape and McGonnagal to be played by who they are. In my head, I had already cast Ben Kingsley and Kate Duchene. But now that I have a solid image of them, I wouldn't change Alan Rickman and Maggie Smith for the world. They produce far more real characters than I could.

The new Dumbledore is not really bad! seriously! It's the Screen writers and directors who you should be pointing the finger at. Anyway i believe that Luna should be changed. The luna in the movies just looks too pretty and un-nerdy...
