Is it just me, or had Harry Potter gotten darker since Prisoner of Azkaban?

Well, I think they obviously did, and for good reason. From Prisoner of Azkaban and onward, the main plot to the Harry Potter series thickened considerably. The books got darker, so naturally, the movies did as well. . .
Is it just me, or had Harry Potter gotten darker since Prisoner of Azkaban?
