Obliviator's Headquarters

Here you will find the Obliviator's Headquarters within the Department of magical Accidents and Catastrophes. The Obliviator's tasks include modifying the memory of Muggles after witnessing incidents that belong in the world of magic by using the Oblivating spell. This spell should only be used by an Obliviator according to the Ministry.

[Em's the Game]

Ivan hurried back to his desk after the department meeting. He quickly shoved the file he was holding into the large filing cabinet to the left of his desk. Drief leaf particles covered his shoes and pants. Ivan swiped at them with his hands, which only resulted in smearing the dust and making the situation more obvious.

After trying to wipe the dust off with water (also, as it turned out, no helpful) he sighed and gave up. Now his pants legs were clinging to shins. A quite uncomfortable feeling.

Other Obliviators filed past Ivan - probably to clean off their desks as instructed. Ivan stood back to take a look at his own. What a disaster. Where to begin...? Piles of unfiled folders were stacked or lying open across the desk. Books on the floor. Three coffee mugs with various amounts of stale coffee were scattered about. Food wrappers, scrapes of paper containing odd 'notes to self' scrawls, two glowing red remembrals, a dead cactus, and a dusty moving picture of Ivan's family completed the fiasco.

It took Ivan nearly three hours of filing and cleaning before he finally saw the scratched hardwood surface of his ancient desk.

Lindsay walked back to her desk after eating some lunch. She wasn't in a hurry, her desk was pretty much clean. Just a few papres to file. She was a total neat freak, but she didn't mind. It gave her a bit more time at work to do whatever and it was so much easier to get things.

Taking a seat in her chair, she started to hum Can You Dance Like A Hippogriff?, a song sung and written by the Weird Sisters. As she hummed, she put her very few papers that needed to be filed in files. Within a few minutes, she was finished. She smiled as she looked at a picture that was of her and the family.

After staring at the picture for a few minutes, she just sat back at her desk and relaxed for a while. She had a feeling that a lot of work would be coming their way.

[Leeness]

Jamie-Lee opened the door and entered, with her papers flying after her. Ivan and Lindsay were already in the office, "Hello you two." Jamie-Lee was very nervous about the upcoming Quidditch cup - what if it was too much for her and the team to handle? They didnt even know if Ireland, Scotland, England or Wales were going to be in the final yet! She packed her papers away and sat at her already tidy desk on which she placed her coffee mug. "I wish we had an assignment we could work on. This sitting about makes me giddy. Are you both set for the Quidditch Cup?"

[Em's the Game]

Ivan wiped a hand across his forehead, leaving a dusty smear. His desk was clean, but he was not. "Ready as I can be. I've been following the games since beginning of the season. Got five galleon riding on Scotland to make it."

Ivan pulled off his robe and took out his wand. There was a large ink stain where his ink pot had fallen off the desk while he'd been cleaning. The rest of the robes were covered in dirty smudges. "Scourgify!" The smudges disappeared, but the ink did not. Well, I suppose that's what I get for using magic-resistant ink. Ivan shrugged and pulled his robes back on.

"What do you think the DE's will try to do, Jamie?"

[Leeness]

"Nice choice," Jamie-Lee smiled since she came from Scotland. She had to ponder on Ivan's question for a moment. She, herself, was quite unsure what the Death Eaters might attempt, "Firstly, we must not assume they will turn up... even if it does seem likely, but they will probably just turn up for a scare. I don't think they would be stupid enough to do anything to extreme if the entire Ministry is on lookout."

[Em's the Game]

"I suppose during the game we'll be posted alongside the aurors in the surrounding villages, just in case." Ivan sighed to himself. Being low man on the seniority pole, chances were very good that he'd end up in the smallest village and have no chance of actually seeing any of the game. What a shame. And yet, as much as he wanted the succes of the world cup, Ivan rather longed for some action.

"Do you think its wrong to like our job? To enjoy being in the thick of things and removing muggle memories?" It was a philosophical question that every so often pinged around in his brain.

An Urgent message flies through the room in the shape of a paper airplane and lands on the Lead's desk.

**Urgent Message**

A local muggle from Surrey, George Smith, received a direct hit from what is known as the Featherweight Charm. Mr. Smith's body began to float into the air causing him to become hysterical.

It is your job to make sure the muggle is placed back into the same environment he was previously and to make sure the muggle newspapers do not receive any word on this issue.

Once approved by Marius, it will then go to the Minister of Magic.

[Em's the Game]

When the missive landed on Jamie's desk, Ivan's eyes grew wide. A missive like this meant a mission! Having been leaning back in his chair while chatting, Ivan kicked his feet off his desk in his eagerness to stand up and see what it said. Unfortunately, his feet went up a bit more than intended and Ivan fell over backwards and out of his chair.

He quickly righted himself and hurried over to Jamie, tenderly feeling up the bump on the back of his head. "What is it? Are we on the job?" He bent over her shoulder to read. "Should we get over the the committee room?"

[Miss Lissy Lou]

Madeline hurried into the room, clutching a piece of parchment in her hand. "Hello," she said to Jamie and Ivan, nodding as her cheeks turned a little pinker than normal. "I hope I'm not interrupting. I came as soon as I got the urgent message." she said, placing the parchment on her desk.

[Leeness]

Jamie-Lee ignored Madeline since an paper airplane had landed on her desk, which, as Ivan had rightly assumed, might mean a mission. She unfolded the plane and began to read. Her eyes rolled and her mouth fell open. "Hmmm," she thought. "Ivan," She ordered, "What do you suppose we do?"

[Em's the Game]

It was a chance to impress his leader - to prove his worth to the department! Think, man, think! What would a muggle believe? Ivan's brain, ever-quick was able to come up with a half-dozen stories in less than a minute. But 'tried and true' was something Ivan's Obliviator Training Instructor had drilled into his head - 'nothing too wacky or the muggle's will never believe it! - or worse, they will and we'll have an additional mess on our hands when they go to investigate!'

Dismissing five of the six ideas, at last Ivan settled on something from an almost-personal experience. "Well, my brother was sick with fever once. Had all sorts of hallucinations - thought he was a dug bog, falling off a cliff, that sort of thing. I say we send somebody over dressed like a muggle healer - 'doctors' I think they call them - and we alter Mr. Smith's memories with the suggestion that he had a fit of some kind...coming on by exhaustion, perhaps...or better - fever! Slip him a good sleeping draught to boot and stick him in his bed. So he'll wake up thinking he's just had a bad spell (no pun intended) of health."

Ivan scratched just above his right ear. "S'pose that would do? Doesn't mention if anyone else saw him floating, though. If they did maybe we could call it a influenza outbreak? Send out some obliviators to go door to door checking for 'signs' of it - and call anything out of the ordinary a hallucination."

It was a boring story, in Ivan's opinion (more's the pity as Ivan would have loved to exercise his imagination a bit more), but it was a plausible one. The question was, had he answered correctly? Ivan's blue eyes watched Jamie's face expectantly trying to gauge her reaction.

Lindsay caught word of an assignment. Jamie-Lee read through the message and asked Ivan what to do. "That's not a bad idea, Ivan," Lindsay thought to herself. She kept quiet. It was the Lead Obliviator's call.

Lindsay got up from her chair and took a quick sip of her coffee. She put her coffee down, walked over to the other Obliviators and, like Ivan, waited for Jamie-Lee's reaction.

Andrea had been sitting at her desk sorting mail when she heard that a missive had been received. Glancing at her watch she realized that she was a bit tardy for the meeting. Racing into the room, she skidded to a stop and quietly joined the others, blushing furiously. She hated being late.

[Leeness]

"Yes, Lindsay, I agree that it is a good idea. Good work Ivan," She smiled. "Ivan, you will dress as the doctor and modify the poor muggles memory. The rest of you will help modify any witness' memories to link to the story Ivan has just dictated to us."

"Well, then, lets hop to it. Good luck Ivan," she smiled once again. It was a really good idea and she definitely wouldn't have thought it up herself.

[Miss Lissy Lou]

"Do we have the names of any specific witnesses?" Madeline asked as she jotted down a few key details from Ivan's story on her notepad.

[Em's the Game]

Ivan's grin was so wide it practically split his face. Nice to have one's ideas appreciated. And then it hit him - dress up like a muggle doctor. What did a muggle doctor look like? Ivan gulped. No. No worries. We'll just go look that up in the...erm....Muggle Studies books. Right.

Or.... Ivan looked past Jamie over at Lindsay and Andrea. He jerked his head towards his desk, trying to get them to join him.

Andrea noticed Ivan looking a little nervous, so she sidled over a bit towards him. "Ma'am" she said addressing the leader, "I have some experience with muggle doctors..." (her distant cousin was one) "If I may assist Ivan on his disguise, I feel that this will only be beneficial to this case."

[Leeness]

"The names of the witness' arent precise, but anyone you see lurking about. Modify." Jamie-Lee then turned to Andrea who wanted to help out Ivan, "Certainly, we need to make it as believable as possible. When you are done we really need to get going." Jamie-Lee got out from her desk and left.

[Em's the Game]

"Right, ma'am." Ivan nodded. "I'll just go get some clothes from the costumer's closet - I mean, we will," Ivan grabbed Andrea and Lindsey's arms and tugged them towards the door. Mentally, Ivan was already planning the confrontation with/performance for Mr. George Smith of the hysterical floating experience.

"We'll meet you there, ma'am!" And Ivan turned and hurried out the door, andreline already rushing with the thrill of the game (which was how it felt to him).

Madeline nodded at the instructions, then grabbed her necessary things and hurried off.

Lindsay nodded, as she was told to come along. She was just about to grab some things she might need, but Ivan grabbed Andrea's arm and also her own arm and tugged them towards the door.

"See you there," Lindsay said to Jamie-Lee, before leaving headquarters.

[Leeness]

Jamie-Lee returned to the office from the assignment whilst the others continued. She sat at her desk and opened her diary, writing in it what they had had to do today. She liked to keep a record of all her missions.

[Em's the Game]

Ivan popped his freshly showered head in the HQ door, spotted his leader and the rest of Ivan's body followed. He was feeling p-r-e-t-t-y proud of himself. A magical incident successfully covered up, nobody hurt (except for Mr. Smith's mildly sprained ankle), and a couple of children had enjoyed a treat.

A slight swagger in his step, Ivan approached Jamie. He grinned and plopped himself down at his desk, threw his legs up in an attempt to relax while tilting back in a comfortable recline position, and fell backwards....again. After hastily righting himself, red-faced and with a smidgen more humility Ivan gingerly reseated himself and reported, "All done, boss. The others should be here any minute." In fact, Ivan had taken a good ten minutes to enjoy a cold one at the pub near the incident before returning, showering and checking his costume back in. Theoretically, both women had had a good twenty minutes on him. Maybe they needed to wet their whistles too. He cleared his throat, as if concerned Jamie could read his thoughts. "Uh...want me to get started on my report? Triplicate as usual?"
