Default Scribbulus Writing Implements

In the end north side of the street of Diagon Alley, sandwiched between Quality Quidditch Supplies and an intersecting alley that leads to Knockturn Alley, sits a small building made of light grey stones. A peal of small bells made of gold tinkle together in a rather quiet unison as the glass door of the shop opens and reveals the stationary supplies store, which is brightly lit thanks to the front glass window that allows sunlight to filter inside the shop. The smell of the store is a surprisingly pleasant combination of wood, old parchment, ink and, shockingly enough, scented candles.

Every single inch of the store seems to be crammed with shelves full of the artifacts sold at the shop, and though it might look and sound messy, the place is surprisingly organized, and whatever item that costumers might be looking for, can undoubtedly be found easily; rolls of parchment, stationery sets, quills made of the most unthinkable and exotic feathers, and every imaginable sort of decorative paper -– you think of it, and this store has it. Inks are the place's specialty, and as such, here you'll find ink of every colour and style that you could possibly imagine.

Behind the tall and smooth wooden counter, the shopkeeper can normally be found. With a frown on his forehead, the shopkeeper is usually busy sorting through piles of parchment, which would be stock orders, bills, magazines, or just plain letters that have been addressed to him. This is the place where you come if you are in need of help, or to pay for the items you wish to acquire at Scribbulus Writing Implements.

Ray opened his mouth and closed it again. Did he just call his customer Sir? Didn't sound like Ray. Before he could open his mouth and respond to the customer, the door opened again. Return customer, whom Ray knew as Della. "Hullo Della," Ray said, giving her a short wave.

Listening was a skill that offered Ray many observations. For example, right here listening now, this man was called Ram. "Ohhhh Ollivanders. Yes of course I know Ollivanders." He gave a fake sounding but very real laugh. Who didn't know Ollivanders? And this man, this Ram, worked there? As the new manager? And live-in person? He gave another one of his laughs. "Literal neighbours, yes, yes. Well I suppose welcome to the neighbourhood, neighbour." He continued to listen to Ram as he explained why he was there - to open up an account. Nodding, Ray reached under the desk to the small drawers, pulling out the paperwork for setting up accounts. He dipped his favourite, billowing black feather quill into the ink and jotted down the information he already knew. First name, location, shop. "Would you like to add anything to the account right now?"

He tallied the invisible ink and said "14 sickles, 3 knuts for the invisible ink. Did you want it wrapped in some soft tissue paper?" something to keep it a little bit secure.

Perhaps, she considered, Not-Ray was actually named Ram, after all. This mess of a man did not seem the nepharious fake name person she had colourfully imagined.

Della fished the shattered remains of her wand out of her pocket and hopelessly extended it to him, “I was actually going to head there after this shop. To see if anything could be done.” The WADA student didn’t use her wand much, if ever, but it was symbolic. The physical evidence that, yes, she was a witch, too.
Oh. Ram sucked in a breath at the sight of that wand. "I see. Look, yes. I'll... I'll take a look, after I'm done here, if you don't mind? Would you like to wait? Or you can meet me there. If it would be awkward to... go there.Together. At the same time. Its up to you. But I can help you, yes." After he was done with his business here, Ram would be more than happy to help... but he couldn't get distracted. He had to get his errands done.

What did that LAUGH mean? Ram blinked, a little startled, but not willing to ask or comment on it in case he was imagining things. But luckily he was saved by the ... paperwork. Yes. An account for Ollivanders. He straightened a little. "Ramiel Isaak Skeres." His full name. "And yes, I have a list.... could I ask for it to be delivered? No rush. Tomorrow morning perhaps?" He placed the list down on the counter and then eyed it.

"I'd like these things monthly, if that is possible, and I'll have the money deposited into your account at Gringotts. As a one off, I'd also like two sealing stamps made with the Ollivanders seal in different sizes, 4 crow feather quills, and...um.. do you do business cards? That is to say, not business cards for Scribbulus, I mean do you make cards. On order. For... for other businesses. Specifically, Ollivanders." That would cover almost everything. It looked like he'd have to go elsewhere for his other requests though, judging by the inventory board.

Ray looked at the list, jotted the things down on the paperwork and ticked the 'Monthly' box. "I can certainly have them to you by tomorrow morning, Ram." He would deliver them himself, he approximated, at opening time. His wife could open the shop tomorrow. Ray tallied the monthly charge, wrote 8 galleons, 14 Sickles, 15 Knuts under the itemised list, and then on the seperate receipt he added 7 galleons, 12 sickles, 3 knuts.

Yes, yes. "We do!" The man was quite excited by now, being that he got to practice his lettering. "Ollivanders business cards." He produced a small piece of parchment, roughly the size of a business card, and offered it to Ram with a quill. "If you could just fill in exactly what you want it to say and in the layout I can go through some designs with you." Here he pulled out the black leather business card folder he had, full of example business cards. They all had his own shop and name details, but they were only examples. Different designs, fonts, colours, all available. Some with disappearing and changing inks, some with small moving photos. "Here are the things we can do on business cards. This isn't an exhaustive portfolio, we can change things around and add things, really." They were wizards, after all.

Hey not bad. A single wand cost more than that monthly charge. Ramiel was fairly pleased. Nice when things were affordable. Though it would be nice to negotiate a bit of a discount going forward. He considered the price, and then looked at the separate receipt for the one off items. 16 galleons, 9 sickles, 18 knuts total for both lists, Ram calculated quickly. "I'll pay the full amount this first time, but since we're talking repeat and ah, ongoing business, how about you knock a galleon off the price for our monthly bill from next month onwards?" Especially because they were also looking at business cards. Ram looked over the information and nodded.

"I'll take this with me and fill it in, and when you bring the delivery tomorrow I'll confirm exactly what I want for the business cards, how about that?" Though.... err, "If you were planning not to hand deliver, and to deliver by owl that's ... that's fine too, but this first time, might be good so we can get this business card... er... business, squared away."

Della lived in a constant state of distraction. Her mind fired off in a million different directions every moment of everyday. It was the artistic side of her that was constantly observing her surroundings and mining for inspiration. In this shop alone, she had heard three different unique sounds that she already had plans to bake into some atonal compositions for her theory of modern music class.

So, you know, she could more than wait for Not-Ray to help out with her absolutely shattered wand. She was well-occupied. And Della wasn't even sure how it had gotten into its decimated state. She didn't even remember losing it. Maybe she had stuck it under the lid of a piano and the little mallets upon each click of the keys had slowly chipped away at it. Or maybe it had gotten lost in her absolute disaster of a bag. Or maybe it was Sebastien's fault. She liked to blame him for things. It was convenient.

She fished out the coins for her invisible ink and forked it over to Ray. Sheepishly, she smiled, "Maybe we should wrap it, yeah." After all, she had more than proved she was not capable of keeping breakable things in-tact.

While she waited for it to be wrapped, she addressed Not-Ray, "I'd really appreciate the help. I don't even know how it happened." Really. She had no clue what happened to her wand. It was easy to lose track of, okay? It did not even crack the top ten of important things in her life.

Ray felt rather pleased with how this was going so far. He felt Ram had a way of thinking that was easy for him, Ray, to follow. Yes. That made things easy to organise. Far more than those wishy washy types who didn't really know what they wanted, always changing their minds. Not that Ray would complain too much, everyone who enjoyed his stationary was a valued customer. Having a quick moment to think over Ram's bargaining proposition, and deciding that knocking off a galleon from the monthly price wouldn't leave him wanting, he figured it would be okay. Besides, this was going to be an ongoing monthly supply, a certainty. "You have a deal Ram," Ray said with a firm nod of his head. With a little arrow underneath the total cost of the monthly receipt, Ray made a note that it was a one-off charge, and wrote the amended price for the monthly billing. He wouldn't forget, but just in case his wife came and helped him with the books.

Ray listened to what Ram was saying, or... trying to say. No, he said it. The long way. "I'll hand deliver it tomorrow morning five minutes prior to opening if that suits you." That way the delivery would be ticked off his own to-do list, but also Ram would have his things ready for the day.

Ray took the money from Della, pinged his cash register open and deposited the coins inside. Her sheepish grin alerted him somehow that perhaps something more than a piece of soft tissue paper would be useful. So, he put the bottle of invisible ink into a little bubble wrap pouch before wrapping it in the tissue paper, and placing it into a small paper bag. It was recyclable, if that mattered to his fellow wizard-kind. "Sealed, wrapped, and ready for use," Ray said happily.

"Oh good. Yes. Sounds good. A deal and a delivery and an ongoing agreement. Thank you Ray." Was it okay for him to just call the man Ray? Wasn't overly friendly? Because he was doing it. Easy to remember, not being too far off his own shortened form name. He signed the paper too.

"I'm heading by Gringotts later, so I'll have the initial amount for this lot deposited, and as a gesture of good faith, next month's too." Sure saved him emptying out almost his entire money pouch when he still had several more errands to run.

He waited too for her package to be wrapped and tried not to overthink what could have been done to have caused such damage to a wand. It was abnormal - most people took much better care of such an important piece of equipment. Ram wouldn't know if he could fix it or not until he got a good look at it and took the time to examine it of course, and he wouldn't do that here.

Was she done then? He nodded at Ray, given their business was finished for now. "I will see you in the morning, Ray. Thank you."

And.... err.

A nod at Della too. They were going, yes? Well. He was.

He headed out of the shop, intending to wait for her in the street and also get his bearings.

"L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you"

Alyssa Johnston (PuppySara) & Zebulon Crabtree (SarcasticStrawberry)

Ink your name on my heart:
Scribbulus Writing Implements, in conjunction with Juliet Raphael, has invited Alyssa and Zebulon to spend a quaint evening in the brewing room out back. The shopkeeper has put out a spread of finger sandwiches and an assortment of bubbly beverages to smooth the night along as you get to know each other through a new thing the cool kids are calling scentilising. Each individual has an individual amortentia scent, and tonight you are invited to create your perfect ink using those scents. Do you have any in common? Are your scents identical? Scents give away an insight to the deepest part of ones soul.. what does your scent say about you? Should your date go well, you are each invited to take home a two way diary and write away to your hearts content.

... Why on earth did she agree to do this thing? Honestly, she hadn’t even wanted to, it was her mother’s idea. Alyssa was actually content staying single the rest of her life...

And yet here she was... and she made an effort to actually look cute for someone she didn’t even know. She could try to blow it off and say that she did it for herself but she never cared what she looked like. She rarely wore heels, she never was big on any dress that wasn’t a summer sundress, and she certainly never made her hair and makeup look prim and proper... But for some reason, apparently she thought tonight was deserving of it...

Maybe she didn’t want to be alone forever... And maybe this was actually a wake up call but... She still felt nervous. Hopefully the guy was nice though...

Taking a glance around her surroundings, Alyssa walked over and gently picked up one of the bubbly drinks and examined it, no doubt it was champagne. So maybe not for her. She was too much of a lightweight for it.

She sat it back down and checked the time. At least at worst he would just scare her more into the idea that she’d be forever single... at least hopefully.

What was Zeb expecting from this? He didn’t exactly know. Truth be told the only reason why he signed up was all of his friends were either getting married or they were dating and he was not. Not that he minded. But he was still new around here and at the least he would have a new friend. Maybe.

Since he was new here there were a few places that he hadn’t been into in Diagon Alley. Scribbulus was one of those places. And frankly the one place he would have never gone into. That was until now, because of this thing. Which was okay he guessed. What kind of date was stationary shop anyway.

Really though he was going in as positively as he could. Heading to the back of the shop he found little set up of food and drinks. That was nice. Also there was a girl there too. Was that her? Walking up to her and the table. ”Are you here for he blind date?’ Hopefully otherwise he would feel like an idiot. Even more than what he was feeling now. He was pretty sure he was at the right place so he took a seat across from her.

Alyssa looked up at a voice and offered a weak smile as she nodded, "Indeed I am." She gave him a quick look over, At least he's cute... She'd keep the thought to herself for now at least, not wanting to come off desperate or something else.

...But... How to continue conversation? She wasn't used to dating in general... plus in the small town she'd been raised in anyone she would've dated was someone from childhood.... But her name was a good place to start right? "I'm Alyssa." Her southern twang came out slightly as she brushed her hair back, "... And I guess the easiest thing to say about me is I'm new to Europe... Just started a new job at the ministry."

There... That was a simple enough introduction, right? Her name and at least an idea of why she was here and willing to go along with her mother's crazy idea for this blind date.

Ray wasn't there to impose. No, he was quite happy to give his shop up for the night to the two people who were on a date. Juliet has spoken to him and organised this little evening, and Ray set everything up. A nice table, some finger sandwiches, and bubbly. Plus the event of scent inks. He had everything set up near the counter for them when they were ready.

"Hello, Ms. Johnston, and Mr. Crabtree," he said in a low voice. "I'm Ray, the shopkeeper here. I'm not going to date crash you but I'll be upstairs if you need anything at all. More drinks, or food, or inks." Really, whatever. He and his wife were just upstairs in their apartment having their own little Valentine's dinner with their daughter at her grandparents house. "Just bing the bell on the counter if you need me."

And with a smile, he left them to their date.

Well well that was relief. At least he hadn’t completely made a fool of himself… yet. He nodded. Good. Or it better than he thought it would go. So far anyway. Maybe this wasn’t going to be as bad as he had psyched himself up. But this was okay.

”I’m Zebulon. Zeb.” Huh? That was exactly what he was going to say. WEIRD. ”You’re new too? And just started a job at the ministry? Me too.” He smiled at her. Completely ironic right? ”Sp where are you from?” He did notice a bit of accent there it sounded southern.

It was very nice of the shopkeeper to come over and introduce himself as well. Zeb reach out to shake his hand. ”Thanks, its really nice and everything looks great.” Zeb was starting to feel pretty good about this whole thing now.

Aurora was starting to get a bit frustrated. Not only at this case, but also at herself for not finding out any information on it yet. However, she did not outwardly show that emotions, as she did need to remain composed and cool-headed. She was the senior investigator for the IUMO after all, so she did have to remain professional even when things may seem to be going awry; and right now, they were. Keeping her head up however, she knew that someone had to know at least a few leads on this criminal.

Walking into Scribbulus', the Ministry worker had high hopes that this would be the location where she found out some information on this guy. One of the first things she noticed were two people sitting down. Giving them a polite nod, she made her way to the counter. Seeing no one was behind it, but a bell was there, Aurora pressed down on it once to make it emit the little ringing sound.

Please, please, please. For the love of Merlin. Know something She thought.

Sitting with his wife upstairs, whilst also knowing the two on the date were downstairs, Ray sat on the edge of his seat. They were playing scrabble, and Ray was about to place down a jolly good word when the bell binged.

But when he went downstairs it wasn't either of his guests, but rather someone else. Hadn't he locked the door? He gave Ms. Johnston, and Mr. Crabtree an apologetic look before heading towards the other guest. "Hello Madame," he said.

"Well, it's a pleasure, Zeb." She gave a small nod.

She smiled slightly, "Born and raised in Canton, Georgia. Just moved to Devon about half a year ago." Alyssa gave a small laugh when he said he started at the ministry as well, "Well, maybe that's why they've paired us up..." She smiled, "What about you? Where's home been prior to this?" Or always been... maybe it was just the new job.

Oh... And the shop owner came to introduce himself as well, "Well, bless your heart... Thank you for opening your store to us, and this set up is quite beautiful." She smiled up at him. Hopefully they wouldn't interrupt his night too much.

Scribbulus' DESIGN your own QWC Stationary!

The back room has been temporarily cleared out to allow the shop to host a crafty corner. Many plain stickers, stamps, parchment, notebooks etc. are set up for you to decorate in your favourite team colours. There's a whole lot of crafty supplies (assorted paper, paint, ink, glitter etc.) and tools for you to get creative in decorating things, or if you're an adult or of-age you might like to use magic to create something!

In one area of the craft corner is a box full of small ink jars full of a specially formulated clear gel which can easily be added to your favourite quills. Add a few drops of your team colours into the gel and swirl it to create a fun multi-coloured ink, so that as you write the colours will change.

Ray was doing the final touches on the Summer Holiday slash Quidditch World Cup events. A sign hung outside advertising the creative event, and he was ready to open his doors to creative little, or big, minds.

Mid-July seemed to have come super fast and for the fourth year it hadn't come with ease. Her one chance at playing for the U17 this season and one dumb move sent her on the injured list. After a few days at the hospital and the rest of the time at home she was going stir crazy and begged her mom to let her come just for an hour or so. Her face didn't quite look normal yet, but it didn't look like the bludger had used it for it's on landing pad either. Thanks to the wonderful bruising paste she had clear skin, but some of her features still might look a bit off.

Either way Chloe was going out, so taking her potion for her headaches and having her mom tell her many times she would be in the next shop over, she made her way into Scribbulus. She heard they were doing a cool thing with stationary and Chloe thought that would be the best time to get some new school supplies designed with her very own German colors, even if Germany wasn't in the cup it would still be fun.

Seeing the door open, Ray looked up at the customer walking in. Definitely a school-aged person, but he wasn't going to just now assume they were from Hogwarts. "Hello there," he greeted, a happy grin on his face. His own daughter was sitting in the craft area wanting to get started. "Which of the teams are you going to be hoping wins?"

Eight-year-old Avalon was patiently waiting for her daddy to tell her it was okay to get started on painting a sticker. She wanted to do one in green and white for the Nigerian National Quidditch team, for her dad, and one in black, red, and gold for the German team for her mum. And maybe one in purple for fun.

"Hi! Do you want to paint some things?" she asked the person who came in. Daddy said she had to wait for other people before she could start doing craft.

Finally.

He had been spending most of his summer with working at his father's restaurant and it was... HELL. Keenan had no idea why on earth he was being "persuade" (forced was such a strong word) to work there... Well, besides the extra pocket money obviously. Did his father wanted him to take over his business? Sorry dad, but he's just not interested at all. Let's just not talking about his crappy summer job today. It's his off day and he needed to get some school supplies first. Keenan could've gone to get textbooks first but he would end up spending a whole day there so let's just go to Flourish and Blotts later. Scribbulus was his first stop then.

The lanky boy entered the shop and noticed the sign about designing his own Quidditch World Cup stationary. Heh, he's not a huge fan of any kind of sport and that includes Quidditch so he's just going to get his regular stuffs then. Smiling to the shopkeeper guy, Keenan saw a very familiar face there. "Hi." He said to the girl and gave his usual neutral smile. As oblivious as he usually was, he didn't even notice about her face.

Patrick walked into the shop with the intent of getting a few pots of ink as he had been extremely busy writing the last few weeks. Although not studying he had been working on some other work and writing some of his friends back in the states since he had been spending more time with his parents than most summers. Pacing around the store he was trying to get his bearings about him and remember where exactly the ink pots were. Merlin he would eventually get what he needed.

Maeve had actually passed EIGHT OWLs. Okay, so six of them she just barely passed with an acceptable, but she passed and that was the important thing. Feeling a renewed sense of confidence on her academics, the sixteen year old's eyes lit up at the sign advertising for the creative event. Uh art; yes please. Without a second thought, she entered the shop in search of the design corner.

As she very nearly walked right into a tall Slytherin boy who happened to be on her top favorite sixth year boys. "Patrick, hey! You're back?" Cause he had gone to America, hadn't he? But then again, she was supposedly in Egypt for two weeks. Well, except not because her trip got cancelled when she found a note her aunt had left her when she got home from King's Cross. Being unable to have intercontinental transportation without her aunt, she instead had to contact Chase with the bad news that the trip was off. Confused and hurt, she spent the last two weeks cooped up until she realized she shouldn't spend her summer in misery.

"Are you gonna design some stationary?"

It always came as a bit of a shock to Aoife just how fowards and backwards the wizarding community could be at the same time. They had things, magical things, that seemed truly revolutionary, and yet, elsewhere, they were firmly stuck in the dark ages. No where was this more evident to her than Scribbulus.

Putting aside, for the moment, the daunting realization that, just as she was beginning to master the pencil, Aoife was going to have to learn to sketch not only in ink, but with a quill instead of a pen, where was the magic? Where were the coloured pencils enchanted to never dull? Where were the old looking tomes of blank paper, that would never fill up so she could spend her life sketching and jotting down ideas and never reach the end? For that matter, where were the non-magical old looking tomes. They had those in the dark ages, didn't they? Parchment was grand for homework, but for sketching, Aoife preferred a book, and she preferred gorgeous journals and sketch books that were works of art unto themselves over store bought cardboard back eyesores. The kind you find on Etsy that are quare expensive.

She could sell Mam on a pricey, but gorgeous leather bound tome if it was enchanted to never run out of pages...

Chloe had been looking at the Germany colors when a voice took her out of her thoughts and she stared at the man for a moment before her brain would register what he was talking about. "Oh right, the cup." She blushed a bit and wondered if she should have left her mother's side. Maybe it had been to soon to be out and about like she said, but Chloe just wanted to be out of the house so she just smiled at him, "England now that Germany isn't in it." Not that they ever had a chance, since it was obvious they didn't even make the final 16.

Hearing a smaller voice ask her about painting she looked over and smiled, "What are you painting?" Maybe that wouldn't be a hard task for her to do. Though before she could get an answer the door opened and a very familiar person walked in. Chloe put her head down feeling extra self-conscious, "Hey Keenan, how's summer going?" She had gotten over her crush, but it still didn't mean she wanted to look cute in front of the boys at school, plus what if she forgot something so simple like she had been doing since the bludger.

It really was a strange sensation. Shopping for a muggle notebook and pen in a shop with writing instruments only a wizard could dream up. Yet, here he was shopping for an ordinary blue pen and a muggle notebook. Yet, there was something oddly satisfying about the way doodles looked with various muggle pens that you just couldn’t get with quills and ink.

Picking up a brown leather notebook, he quickly flipped through it checking the quality of the paper before adding it to the growing collection of things in his arms. This in its self was a strange feeling. Having the ability to shop for whatever he wanted without worry for the cost was something that he’d long forgotten so to be able to now, after all this time, was a bizarre sensation. And yet, here he was, arms full of writing utensils and a notebook, ready for his new start in a different country across the sea.

Turning to purchase his items, he couldn’t help but stop as he noticed a younger black-haired girl looking somewhat lost in her own thoughts. Hesitantly, he walked over deciding to check if she was okay. After all, she was quite young to be in here on her own. “Uh... Excuse me, are you okay? Can I help you with something?” he asked in a quiet, warm voice, not wanting to startle the poor girl.
