Default Flourish and Blotts

About halfway down the north side of the Alley stands Flourish and Blotts, the shop noticeable by its wide picture windows displaying all sorts of gold-embossed spellbooks, any new releases warranting advertisement and the occasional sleeping cat, as the shopkeeper’s two cats occasionally decide to make the window display their chosen napping place when they aren’t underfoot. Upon entry, all that seems to be visible are bookshelves, stacked to the ceiling and absolutely filled with books of all shapes and sizes. While it may look like chaos, there is a sort of order to the shelves and various stacks of books scattered throughout the main floor in addition to those shelved. A table sits close to the door which regularly holds sets of Hogwarts’ required textbooks every summer for the ease of students who may not want to hunt them down on their own, and a staircase, even more shelves filling the space underneath, leads up to a second floor that contains shelves of the various works of fiction from the Wizarding world and beyond.

Near the center of the shop stands the counter, where the shopkeeper can usually be found and which is also the location for the occasional book-signing or other book-related event. Surrounding the counter are displays of newspapers, magazines, diaries, journals and other small items that might interest the literary-minded customer. In addition, a large, leather-bound book rests on a small stand to the left of the counter: an index of all the books sold in the shop for the use of the customers who are in a hurry or simply don’t want to search through all the shelves on their own.

Toward the back of the shop, a door leading to a storage area and the small office used for paperwork and any other business the shopkeeper needs to take care of in private, a cat-door installed as well as the cats’ food and water while they’re in shop are there. Tucked away in various corners of the shop, half hidden by shelves and very cozy, are small reading nooks containing squashy chairs and small tables for a lamp, and a larger reading area including a fireplace can be found near one of the front windows. Enjoy!

"L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you"

Robyn Holmes (Zoe) & Julie Bellaire (nicole black)
A Date With a Book:
Meet your date outside Diagon Alley's premiere bookstore, Flourish and Blotts then head inside together: a little 'reserved' sign marks out the nook set aside for your date. The table is small and quaint and possess a lamp that provides cozy lighting - bright enough to read by but not enough to glare. There is also a cookie platter with a range of sweet treats, and a pair of mugs which are charmed to refill with the hot beverage of your choice. The squashy chairs sure do look inviting: take a seat and get the conversation going, there's plenty of inspiration around you for topics after all. Once you've gotten to know each other a little, thanks to Flourish and Blotts, you may each pick out (and keep!) a book for your date.

Julie Bellaire had not signed up for this. no, quite literally she had not signed up for this. Her friends, sweet as they were, had misguidedly signed her up for this dating service in the hopes of 'getting her back out there'. now, there was nothing wrong with match making or blind dates, or dating in general but Julie... really didn't believe dating was for her anymore (or ever).

but Robyn Holmes didn't know anything about this, Robyn Holmes was probably lovely and didn't deserve to be stood up.

So, here she was. well-dressed, slightly stressed and fairly worried she'd be the one stood up.

Robyn was ... indifferent. While she could do nothing but assume that her alleged date was a somewhat decent person, the WU student and Witch Weekly intern wasn't exactly thrilled that those at her workplace had signed her up for this. Valentine's Day in her honest opinion, which she had been quite vocal about as of late, was one of the most ridiculous holidays of the year, and the concept of blind dates and love at first sight and Cupid's arrow were just as ridiculous.

A lone wolf is what she was, which was just fine with her. Yet there she was walking down the alley, arguably sheer curiosity getting the better of her than anything. There was a glimmer of, dare she admit it, hope that this random pairing might just work out for the better. Not to mention she'd have an experience to write about regardless of how things turned out in the end.

Wearing a sensible dress and heels, Robyn made her way toward Flourish and Blotts. Her eyes locked on what she presumed to be her date, considering no one else happened to be waiting around. "I take it you must be Julie Bellaire?" she asked once she was within arm-length.

Julie didn't want to be here. She had known that but now? as she was about to introduce herself to the sensibly dressed woman in front of her it all came crashing down around her ears.

Nevertheless, she persevered. "I very much am." Julie replied, her smile bright and warm as she extended her hand to shake. She could, and she would do this, and she'd have a good time no matter how much her body rebelled against her. Big deal. Big deal she hadn't been on a date since Jessa. Big Deal her last relationship (for lack of a better word) had been with a boy just toying around with her. Big Deal. She was Julie Bellaire and that still very much meant something. Tossing her curls over her shoulder, she peered up at Florean's with a near perfect look of her usual playfulness. "Looks like we get the whole store to ourselves. Should be nice."

Once the confirmation was given, Robyn nodded her head. A smile grew on her face, though internally she was torn -- half of her wanted her date to be a no-show so she could move on with her life on the course it was already on without interruption, yet the other half oddly was allowing herself to go with the flow. It is a funny thing what a dash of curiosity and hope could do to a person like her.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Julie," she responded, returning the hand shake. "I'm Robyn, as you already know." A woman of formalities is what she was. She wasn't about to let all of her adoptive mother's etiquette lessons go to waste after all these years.

When her date's eyes wandered to the storefront, so did hers. Reading over the sign overheard, never in a million years would Robyn Holmes have thought she would ever be partaking in a date inside a bookstore. In her mind she had started a list of better places for a date, but Julie's voice soon brought her back into reality.

They had the store to themselves? Should be nice? Right. "Shall we go in then?" she asked, already turning the doorknob and stepping aside to allow Julie to enter the shop first.
