So Everyone knows that it could have been Neville and not Harry so What differnces do you think would be in the story if Voldemort went after Neville and not Harry.

I think their personalities would be the same, but that also means that Neville might not have a high chance for survival like Harry (ex: Like when Harry battled You-Know-Who for the Sorcerer's Stone.) If Neville had the same character traits as he does now, he probably wouldn't come out as good as Harry in any type of fighting situation.

^I agree. I love Neville, and I think he's quite brave, but he just doesn't have enough right now to take LV on. I think that Neville is a lot braver than he was at the beginning of the series though, and with more confidence and experiance he could handle things like that as good as Harry.

I have a feeling in the seventh book that Neville will truly realize his magical powerness. Maybe then he'll be able to fight some bigger baddies, but I don't think whatever he does can ever get him up to Harry's level.

I have always wanted him to fight against Bella for what she did to his parents. As bad as it is for Harry being an orphan and all, but at leaast he knows that his parents loved him. I also know that he lost Sirius because of that spell she cast at him. I think Nevilla has it worse, as he can see his parents as much as he wants, but they can never love him as they have no idea who he even is. That breaks my heart, and I want Bella to pay for what she did to them.

^I agree. It's one thing if you lost your parents at a young age and they died, but Neville lost his and they didn't die, and they can't remember him and he has to see that all the time. I don't know if they will depicit that in the movies or not, but if they do I will have to bring tissues

Back to the topic, now that I think about it, if Neville's parents had sacrificed themselves for him, and their love caused the curse to backfire and Neville ended up with a scar, maybe he wouldn't be as forgetful as today. Maybe he would be as strong as Harry is today because of the connection between him and Voldemort.

But I must say, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" sounds just a bit better than "Neville Longbottom and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Harry got a few powers from Voldemort when he tried to kill him.
Like the Parsletongue and how he can penetrate Voldemort's mind.
I guess Neville wouldve got them too if Voldemort had tried to kill him, but otherwise he's not as brave as Harry nor as daring, but he's brave in his own way.
But it all ends up it was Voldemort who chose Harry, and ranked him as his equal, if he'd hav chosen Neville I guess the story wouldve been a bit more subtle

If LV had chosen Nev it would have been way different!!! But he definitely has courage! So im sure he'll help in the battle!

I think about this ALL the time! Things would be soooooo different! I mean Neville wouldnt be the same, he'd be soo different because his parents would have died instead of gone crazy, and he'd be seen differently by his gran (who I love by the way) and Harry would be soooooooo different, its all too much to think about lol!

I think, after reading the seventh book, that if Neville had been in Harry's situation, he might have been able to pull it off. I'm still not so sure. If he was brave enough to actual run at Voldy and then kill his snake, who knows what he is capable of doing?

I think that Neville may not have been able to fight Lord Voldemort head on. Through out the books, it is always pointed out that Neville is not the most powerful wizard. I am pretty sure that if he were to be in Harry's position, anger may have powered him making him better. But I also am not so sure how good his chances would have been.

Personally, I don't think he would've survived LV's original attack. I believe this because he was a pure-blood, unlike Voldemort. Also, he didn't show any signs of magic for a very long time. I honestly just don't see Voldie choosing Neville, nor Neville surviving the first attack...

It also depends on what Neville's parents would have done to protect him. Had the been in Lily and James' position, they might have reacted differently and the love that Lily used to protect Harry might not have happened at all for Alice and Neville.
