Why is Neville so forgetful? Is it because of a memory charm? His own personality or something more sinister? Let's discuss shall we?

Yeah I read a theory in this very site that suggested that Neville had a memory charm put on him so that he wouldn't remember the identity's of the death eaters or something....not that it helped him....thoughts?

and it worked, only it wasn't very powerful, that's why he can still remember most things. Imagine revising for exams, he'd have to do twice as much work as everyone else.

I guess that is a possibility. I think that's just in his nature. And his memory has gotten a lot better in the last 2 books. Maybe his memory will be REALLY good in the last one

hmmm I wonder if memory charms fade with age? and help. Neville's got a bit of that from the Trio and especially Hermione. He's could have been a lot better when he got to Hogwarts than when he was four. *thinks* or maybe it was a sort of magic thing? Since the Lestranges had been thrown in Azkaban and they became very weak as did their magic, maybe the spell faded a bit. *thinks*

i think its his personality...like me... i really forgetful! maybe his memory will improve as he gets older

Okay this is just a random thought that came to my mind.

Alright you know with this prophecy buisness how it could have been Neville or Harry and it is Harry because of that whole deal when he was one because I dont think Voldie knew about Neville(or atleast thats how I understood it). Maybe there was like a hidden*forgotten* part of the prophcey that was like "And the other will be very forgetfull" or something like that. So Its not Nevilles fault he is forgetfull just like its not Harry's fault he has to be the Savoir of the Wizarding World....

Yeah....you never know if Trelawny came out of the trance to early....She could have had more to the prophecy about either Neville or Harry (since Voldie had to make the choice) but then again it could be his nature....I'll have to try and bug Jo about it

poor Neville...he doesnt know how close he was to getting Harry's fate...

Neville's forgetfulness is something I've always wonder about, but I never knew the answer. But I agree I don't care if he kills Bella as long as he does it for himself (did that make sense?!?!?).

It made perfect sense! My Neville! i wonder if Neville knew something important but might have forgotten about it

Well, sense he was little his relatives have done several things to him to destroy his confidence. They didn't think he was magical. He went to school and his confidence didnt approve with Draco there. His fright of making a fool of himself and his shyness are his main concern. He just tries to keep it on the down low and focuses on that. So he forgets everything else.

hmmm I never thought of that but surely for things like passwords would have been important to remember because he had to spend nights out in the hallway cause he couldn't remember them. He said that he just couldn't remember them. I think he would have told Hermione at least about his fear if that was the case....maybe DH will tell us?

i have a feeling that in DH Neviile will play a major part... probably also with his memory...if he forgot something

I think we might find the answer in book 7

I guess his forgetful-ness is just a personality trait since there was nothing in the book about it But with his newfound bravery, I think his forgetfulness is a thing of the past. Well, maybe not totally gone but not as often as like in his first year.

^yup thats true Well, Im glad it was just personal cos if he had forgotten anything helpful...

Hopefully he isn't one of those teachers who forgets to pass back assignments or anything I don't think he will be, though
