Neville in the movies. So how did they do? Neville portrayed in the mvoies versus Neville portrayed in the movies. Is the movie Neville the way you imagined him?

Honestly, I never thought about Neville before I saw the movies. I didn't pay attention to him...but then in the first movie Matt just played him so well, I was like "awwwwwwww" the whole time Now whenever I read the books I see the actors doing everything the characters are doing, and that includes Matt.

Matt kind of looks the way I pictured him in the books...actually, he looks better Matt is honestly the reason I love Neville so much...he makes him really loveable If you had told me when I read the first book that some day I would have a huge fangirl crush on the guy who plays Neville, I would think you were crazy

He's something how i pictured him in the first 2 movies... but then Mattcompletely changed & made Nev look different. But I don't mind Matt is perfect for the role of Nev

I don't think anyone really minds that Matt changed I think the fact that Matt is growing up and maturing both physically and as an actor works very well with the fact that Neville is making a huge change between 1st and 7th year.

Of course no one minds! He's grown hot! He makes Neville look totally mature in the movies!

I guess I'm like liss, I never really thought about it at first. Though, even know that I do, Matt does an amazing joy with Neville, appearance wise and all. I couldn't imagine watching Nev any other way..

Matt has him down to a T, in the younger movies it was SO adorable. Then little Nev started getting older.. maturing, proving himself, and changing quite alot. Matt of course does look better then Neville is suppose to right now.. but oh well, Nev should look like that!

But when I think about it, did JK ever say that Neville wasn't good looking? No. People don't ever consider the fact that Neville could be one of those slightly dorky guys who grow up to be very hawt geeks

True, but either way you look at it, looks don't matter. Neville was ALWAYS loyal, and kind-hearted, gently, and brave! Not a geek, or nerd, although alot of the other characters thought so or treated him like it.
That never changed, he just.. realized it, finally. I think Nev was a character to show.. you don't have to look a certain way, to be a certain way.

Exactly. AND never judge a book by it's cover. Even though Neville is slightly more clumsy and has rotten luck sometimes, doesn't mean he isn't capable of being a hero


Has anyone in here read Beowulf? Not watched the silly movie that is out in theaters right now but actually read the book? I think Neville is totally like Wiglaf. Even when Beowulf can't fight, Wiglaf still jumps in there and saves the day, which is Neville does in the 7th book.

I think they hit the head on the nail with Matthew Lewis. He was just how I imagined Neville to look, I mean they picked him so perfectly.

But I think Lissy made a good point. JK wrote him as a clumsy and forgetful and the picture we all had in our head was of someone fat and nerdy.

I think that casting Matthew was again to poke at the prejudices that we still face in this world you know. Its not just black and white or male and female. Its blonds and brunettes, skinny and fat, geeks and jocks.

I mean I even did it myself, they way she wrote Neville I didn't picture a Colin Ferth (total hottie!) I pictures someone like Matthew Lewis(when he was younger, hes kinda cute now)

I am now officially in love with Neville!!! I'm in the middle of watching all five Harry Potter movies, one after another. No I'm not sad I'm bored It is amazing to see just how better Matt plays him as each movie happens.

I too thought Neville was going to be a bit of a chubby boy, sort of like Dudley, but instead of being mean he'd be a fraidy cat. Thankfully I am able to say I doubt that will ever happen (thank god) Neville has become more and more brave and I can't wait to see what else Matt brings to him in the last upcoming 3 movies.

Exactly Everyone just automatically assumed that he was dorky looking as well. I mean, the things they make poor Matt do...fake teeth, clips to make his ears stick out, clown shoes...why can't they just let him look natural? Especially now that Neville is maturing in the books, just like Matt is maturing off screen

I'm way excited to see him in the 7th movie with the whole Nagini scene at the end

I adore the movie Neville. Matt has and always will be my Neville. He was so cute in PS/SS and in CoS, but when the new look for PoA came along I was in heaven. I really liked the PoA look, mainly because he was so much hotter. lol. Plus, I loved how his hair was. But the super long GoF hair didn't work out for me. Yes, Matt was amazing, but the hair. *dies* OotP was a little better, with the shorter hair and all. But it just was styled in a weird way. But yeah, I got used to it. ... I fuss over hair styles a lot.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Neville in the last one. Mainly the Nagini killing. Neville was the coolest in that book.

Yeah I can't want to see a all grown up Matt/Neville in the last films. Neville really shows up what he is made of. I want to see his Gramms too bcuz she was just as tough as Neville was.

I didn't exactly picture Neville as chubby, but definately a little nerdy. He looked perfect in the first two, but i don't mind the way he's changed. Matt does a good job portraying Nev, like when he's trying really hard to cast the Patronus charm- it's just like the book!

This isn't Matt's fault, but I don't like how when Harry first sees the threstrals Neville is standing right behind him but doesn't say anything like "No Harry, I see them too!" I guess it's not important to the whole plot line that Neville saw his grandad die, but as a Neville fan it annoyed me.
