In a world of television, and film a lot of people forget the enjoyment that a book provides. With books, unlike television or films, you can enter a world that is of your own making; you don't just see the story, but you live it. Sure there is an image of the pedantic, scholerly old man in most people's mind once they hear mention of the word 'reading', but really that is just nonsense. I'm proud to say that I am a bookworm, like Hermione.

Garden of Angels by Lurlene McDaniel.

This touching story, set in a small Conners, Georgia, mid-70s, is about a daughter and her feelings toward her mother's illness and life in general.
As her mother is in the hospital, her youth pastor's brother-in-law, Jason, came to her town, from what Darcy can guess, he was forced.
When Darcy meets Jason, she has a feeling that she has never had before, yet with the condition of her mother's illness, she does not pursue it, but then again what girl would try to get a guy who is three years older than her?
All that is around seems to be falling apart, but Darcy Rebecca Quinlin does something that everyone at sometime have to do, grow-up and take responsibility.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe By C.S. Lewis

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is considered to be the most famous book in the Chronicals of Narnia, and is also the first official book written about the world. The first book, The Magician's Nephew, is all about the creation of Narnia, and introduces the White Witch (formally the evil sorceress Jadis). This book focuses on four children (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy), who were sent to live with an old Professor (who is really Diggory, who is promanent in the first book) for a summer during World War 2. One day, while the children were exploring the Professor's huge house, Lucy found an old wardrobe. She decided to check it out, while her siblings continued on without her. She entered the wardrobe (keeping the door open as she knew it was foolish to shut it behind her), and was surprised to find that instead of finding a back to the wardrobe, she was in a wood in the middle of winter. She soon met a fawn named Mr. Tumnus, who she made quick friends with. She went to have tea with him at his cave. It turns out - as a distraught Mr. Tumnus tells her later - that the White Witch, who considers herself the Queen of Narnia was wanting anyone who found a son or daughter of Adam (human) to bring them directly to her. Instead of turning Lucy in though, Mr. Tumnus rushes her back to the wardrobe and she makes it safely back. Upon returning Lucy is surprised that she was not missed by her siblings, as she was gone for hours and explains to them where she had been. Her siblings didn't believe her, and state that she was only gone for a second, but check out the wardobe anyway. Upon looking they see that there is a back to the wardrobe. They fancy that she was just making things up, which makes Lucy quite upset. Edmund, the second youngest - who is also quite vindicive - makes a point to tease Lucy about Narnia, even when Peter and Susan scold him for doing so. One day, while playing hide-and-seek he sees Lucy go into the wardrobe and decides to go in there after her in order to tease her some more. He doesn't find her there though, and discovers himself in a wood. Almost immediately he hears the sound of a sleigh with bells approaching. it is white with white reindeer pulling it. There is a little dwarf driving and a beautiful but intimidating woman in the carrage. She calls for Edmund to join her, and he does so. She claims to be the Queen of Narnia and offers him a drink and whatever he wants to eat. He asks for Turkish Delight (little does he know that he is offered enchanted food), and the candy magically appears for him to eat. She asks him several queston while he is eating, and learns about his siblings. She tells him that she will take make him a King - but before that, he must bring his brother and sisters with him to her castle, as she wants to meet them. Edmund doesn't want to do so, he wants to be the King of Narnia right then, but he agrees to once he's told that he can have more Turkish Delight for doing so. Those were the best Turkish Delights he had ever had, and he would do anything for more of them. After this exchange, the Queen bids leave of him and drives off. Right after that, Lucy comes upon him and is very happy to see him. She had been visiting Mr. Tumnus she says. He has told her about the evil White Witch who calls herself the Queen of Narnia, even though she really isn't. She is the one who makes it so that it is always winter but never Christmas. This Queen is looking for any human so that she can keep them prisoner. This alarms Edmund, but he still wants more candy, so he brushes it off as the fawn just saying things. Lucy and Edmund then head back to the wardrobe. Upon returning, Lucy rushes over to Peter and Susan, and excitedly tells them that Edmund had found Narnia too. To be spiteful, he tells them that he was only playing games with her, which makes Lucy cry and Peter and Susan mad at him. A few days later, Peter and Susan visit the Professor and ask him for advice. They know that Lucy never tells lies while Edmund does, but still find it hard to believe that she is telling the truth. The Professor is of the opinion that if Lucy never lies and Edmund does, that there really is a Narnia. They still find it hard to believe though. That is till one day, when there is a group of tourists at the house (the house had a lot of history and a lot of peope who wanted to look at it), the four children try to hid away so that they are not seen. They end up in the room with the wardrobe, and quickly enter inside it. Instead of the back being there, they enter the wood, and all four of them are in the world of Narnia, where Aslan is said to be coming back after being gone for so long. Many adventures befall the four children in Narnia.

You must read it to find out anything else. I found this book to be very good. It's not too hard to read, nor too easy. It has a good story and has lessons in it, but they are not blatently obvious. The Chronicals of Narnia are a must read for anyone.

Eragon By Christopher Paolini

Eragon was an orphan living with his uncle & cousin in farm in a very remote place of Alagaseia. When he goes hunting one day he finds a polished blue stone,he tought it was a very lucky find for a poor farm boy.When the stone turns out to be a dragon egg he soon realized that he may be the first dragon rider in over 100 years! Soon after the hatching of the baby dragon two of Galabotorix's evil agents called the Ra'zac are sent to Palancar Valley retrieve Eragon and Saphira (the dragon).
Unfortunately Eragons uncle got in the way of the Ra'zac & gets killed.Eragon goes out to avenge the death of his uncle with the village storyteller Brom & Saphira.Brom has a surprising and useful depth of knowledge about dragons. He is also highly skilled in swordplay and the use of magic, and instructs Eragon on these subjects as they travel. He is clearly more than a storyteller, but he refuses to identify himself. Halfway through the story Borm confesses that he only came on the chase for the Ra'zac so he could buy time for Eragons training.Thats when Eragon starts
persuing more worthy goals. Assisted by Murtagh, a troubled but very brave young man - whose identity is also secret-he rescues Arya, an elf , from Galbatorix. Arya has been poisoned by Galbatorix and is in a coma. Eragon,Murthag,Sapahira & an unconscious Arya (read the book to see what happends to Brom ) set off to find the Varden, a group of rebels against the reing of Galbatorix, to join the rebellion and hopefully find a cure for Arya.As the last of the Dragon Riders, Eragon may be the Varden's last hope of resisting Galbatorix.

Fire Flight by John J. Nance


Fire Flight gives the reader an insight into the world of an aerial fire fighter that some never knew existed. As Yellowstone park burns to the ground exhausted pilots in aging planes and helicopters survey the damage and do all they can to halt it. On the ground it is a life and death battle for the smoke jumpers, doing all they can to kill the fiery blaze, all of this controlled by only a few men in helicopters, the Leads.

In the midst of the horrific battle is romance, mystery and sorrow. John J. Nance paints a picture many would not be fortunate enough to see. It is true portrait of human emotion, suspicious events and natures' fury. The pilots are dying and no one knows why but Clark Maxwell is sure that there's more to the story than what meets the eye.

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

Have you ever heard of Alice In Wonderland? If you have, I'm sure that you'll enjoy The Looking Glass Wars. The Looking Glass Wars is a trilogy which is written by a male named Frank Beddor, who is currently living somewhere in Los Angeles, California.
His first book of the trilogy is called: The Looking Glass Wars. It is about a girl named Alyss Heart, heir to the Wonderland throne, must flee through the Pool of Tears to escape her murderuos aunt Redd, she finds herself lost and alone in Victorian London. Befriended by an aspiring author named Lewis Carrol. Alyss tells the violent, heartbreaking story of her young life. Alyss trusts this author to tell the truth so that someone, somewhere will find her and bring her home. But he gets the story all wrong. He even spells her name incorrectly!
Fortunately, Royal Bodygard Hatter Madigan knows all too well the aweful truth of Alyss' story and he is searching every corner of our world to find the lost princess and return her to Wonderland so she may eventually place as the Queen of Hearts.
