| It's only been 7 minutes! Tom Morello (RatM, Audioslave) is great and I have a soft spot for Matt Bellamy (Muse) even though he's not really a legend. Hendrix goes without saying. |

| He does play the solos occasionally. He's my favorite as well, but if I couldn't go with him, I'd go with Brian May of Queen and Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance. |

| Well Billie can play all the parts they write, but he doesn't always play it because he's not just playing he goes crazy during performances and that's something he couldn't do if he was playing. As far as my favorite....I haven't heard enough guitarists to pick a favorite. The music I really like isn't really guitar music for the guitar player...I'll listen to like The Clash or something (or of course Green Day) or RHCP and think "ooh nice guitar". But I guess you could say I like Joe Strummer.... |

Maidens guitarists are Dave murray and Adrian Smith. They both rock my socks. I really love Jimmie Page too. He was amazing. As is Brad Delson of Linkin Park and Billie Joe of Green Day. |

It's all power chords! (Don't get me wrong, I'm not badmouthing green day or anything. I like their sound, its just that it is really simple!)
Favorite guitarists- Matt Bellamy (muse), Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd), Angus Young (AC/DC), and I am recently becoming very fond of Russel and Kele from bloc party's guitar style |

I mean, look at Muse. Look at Matt Bellamy. (I certainly like to ... anyway I'm most familiar with their performances.)
Bellamy goes totally mad during the concert. He does all these mad little shuffles, he dances about the place, swings his guitar round and balances it on his head and puts it behind his neck, all the while playing flawlessly. Granted, Muse's stuff isn't the world's most complicated but moreso that Green Day's. Plus it's the solos where there's most room for improvisation.
Sorry if I'm going on about this, it's just that I'll respect any band worth their salt in the concert hall as well as the studio - I lost a lot of respect for Green Day when I heard about the fourth member.
Anyone ever seen Radiohead live? Yorke looks like he's having some sort of a fit, he twitches around the stage until he has to play again. Tis cool.
EDIT: That reminds me...
On topic- Jon Greenwood from Radiohead.

| Haha I've never seen Radiohead...only heard a few of their songs, actually... ...but lol looks like he's having a fit? Yeah I understand you not being impressed by Jason White (GD's "4th member")'s presence...Uh...I saw the video for Muse's Stockholm Syndrome (also the name of a Blink song...? Lol what does that mean, "Stockholm Syndrome"?...) and it was pretty cool, don't remember much about the song but you're right it's pretty rockish. Anyway it isn't the complicatedness (<---not a word) of the music that gets me it's the simpleness (<--also not a word) but the ability to make it sound good. IDK for some reason I just still have to go with Billie Joe as my favorite guitarist...but that's love for ya (of the band I mean)...I like their older stuff, too. Like on Kerplunk the music's really great. Yeah I've stayed my welcome here... |

| I agree with you, thenextmissrowling. The simplicity gets me, too. I mean, I wasn't aware that in order to be a great rock guitarist, you had to play 'complicated' solos and all that jazz. All I'll say is...Brian May is the man. No 58 year old can rock the guitar and a long afro like him. |

| Blink 182 are huge Muse fans - note also the use of an interlude, just like on Absolution. Some of the Muse fans were pretty ****** off at that.
'Stockholm Syndrome' refers to hostages bonding with their captors. There was a bank robbery in Stockholm in the 70s - the hostages actually ended up fighting the police to protect the robbers. IIRC some of the hostages married the captors when they got out of jail. Quote: |

| But what I mean is, if Green Day's stuff was particularly complicated then it might explain why BJ doesn't do the solos. But it's not really difficult stuff, which implies that he's not a very good guitarist. (Yes, I realise that those are fightin' words round here but hey.) |

| I love Stockholm Syndrome. I like Muse's sound. I've been thinking about getting a CD of their's, but I just don't know what to start out with. What do you suggest, lauradonaghy? |

What do you suggest, lauradonaghy? | Well, Stockholm Syndrome is on their latest album, 'Absolution'. I guess it's their heaviest overall - it's also their most mainstream album. If you like 'Absolution', I absolutely recommend that you buy their second album, 'Origin of Symmetry'. It has some of their best songs - some of the best I've ever heard. But, Muse are an acquired taste and you might find OoS incredibly weird unless you familiarise yourself with their sound a bit first, which is why I'm recommending 'Absolution'. ( Micro Cuts certainly takes some getting used to, that's all I'm gonna say... )
So, what about Johnny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien? Guitarists from Radiohead, and they'll be appearing as two of the Weird Sisters in GoF. I'd love to hear the solo from Paranoid Android at the Yule Ball. Or that bit in Nice Dream where it goes all edgy... |

| Heh, yeah. I suppose I might look into them as well. But in the meantime....is it fair to remind us that this thread asks who the favorite rock guitarist is, not who the best rock guitarist is. So it doesn't matter, really, if the person is particularly extraordinary at playing, it just matters who you prefer, lol. Just thought I'd reinstate (or whatever) that. |
