I searched and found that there wasn't a Nightwish thread in this forum!!!!! (shock horror!!!!) So I'm starting one right now.

Any fellow Nightwish fans out there? I personally am a great fan of the old Nightwish (with Tarja)... I don't like Anette's voice that much. But they are still a really good band. What do the rest of you think

(N.B. - For anyone who doesn't know Nightwish... they are a Finnish symphonic metal band, and if you like metal music and good tunes, they will blow you off your feet!)

I am a fan of the old Nightwish too. I really don't like the last album, not because the rest of the band is worse (Tuomas, Emppu, Marco and Jukka are still genius), but just because I don't like Annete's voice on it. I can't say she has a bad voice, but she just doesn't fit, that's all

I got into them about five/six months ago while I was shopping for Within Temptation CD's on Amazon. I was HOOKED! As for the Annette/Tarja preference, I'd say that they're both good and I like them all the same. The newest album wasn't their best and I do like the older work.

But overall, great band.

I got into Nightwish while looking on Amazon for bands that sounded like Evanescence. They're addictive!!!!

As for the new/old debate... I still like Nightwish, just not the new one as much as the old one. Dark Passion Play wasn't a great album for me, NOT because Anette sucks (she's not a bad singer - just a completely non-metallic one who grows on you with time and effort - though the way she utterly MURDERS the old songs live seriously irritates me), but because I can't help but feel that the band are now going for beautiful orchestral arrangements without much substance/emotion behind them. Plus, Master Passion Greed has got to be the most horrible song ever written. I gave it 3 chances and wound up with a splitting headache all 3 times.

I miss Tarja in the band, but I don't think either she or the guys would have been happy had she still been the singer, so I guess it's all worked out for the best. Her solo stuff is pretty solid, though... very classically melodic. Buy "My Winter Storm", guys...

But I re-discovered The Islander and fell in love with it... must be the only music in that album I like. Marco, oh Marco he has one of the most beautiful voices EVER

Nightwish rock, and I agree with the old/stuff new stuff thing, the only newer one I like is Bye bye beautiful

I also like Lacuna Coil....
