Oh dear, this is one person i thought wasn't going to be swayed by the media. She was rather unique. Dead flat, and she knew she couldn't sing to save her life but she made it. Now she's turning up to red-carpet events in posh dresses and attempting to show people she's still the same old Avril by a bit of black nail varnish. I think its a huge shame. She used to have really good songs, she spoke her mind. Now, she's becoming another media clone. It's a shame. |

^  I think that the best song i've heard from her recently would be the Eragon theme song. As for girlfriend the lyrics are terrible although the mixing was cool that is the only thing that hooks people....I think anyway. | |

I mean, I love Avril but I'm going to have to agree with Miss Imi. When we saw the video for Girlfriend, my mother said she was turning into the new Britney Spears. *sigh* She was so good. Keep Holding On is a good song and here's hoping there's another good song on her new album. Although, I actually like Girlfriend. It must be the beat.

 Avril used to be punk rock and actually had some good songs. Girlfriend sounds like a spoof. I'm being serious, it's no where near good.

Avril was a lot more interesting, "real" or "down to Earth" if you will, years ago. I hadn't heard too much music like hers back before her newest album. But people change, for better or worse. Now she sounds like anyone else on the radio, there isn't much that sets her apart for every other pop singer.
I must say though, Girlfriend is a very catchy song that my friends frequently catch me singing/humming the words/tune. I can't decided if it is a good song or a terrible song yet, and I'll probably never come to a conclusion about it.
Whatever Avril wants to do, I'll be okay with it. I understand that artists do have to change every so often. Most good artists don't have the same sound on every album anyways. Rock bands often have a deep contrast between their old and new ablums and songs as well. | |
