I can't believe that I know everything that happens in the movie, but I haven't seen it yet! Apparently it's really good, because my friends won't shut up about it.
Ummm.... I wasn't impressed with the movie to be honest. I mean, the effects were phenomenal, but it was crap compared to the book. And I know, I know, I know... that always happens, btu I was RELLY upset about this film.

I agree with this entire comment. Yes, I'd known from the trailers and promotional images that there would be a lot of changes, but it's like they changed pretty much the entire plot! In all honesty, it was an enjoyable movie - or rather, it would have been had I not read the books.
SPOILER!!: MOVIE DETAILS
They screwed up the plot. They made it all seem like Luke only stole the Lightning Bolt because he was mad at his dad, which was true in the books, but not the entire reason. Not only that, but Luke didn't come off right to me; he just came off as some bratty teenager that did things without actually thinking them through, and in the books ... Luke was not at all like that. It's sad, really, because Jake Abel IS a really good actor, and he could have made an AMAZING
Another, thing: Kronos was not mentioned ONCE. How is that possible? I mean, COME ON. And apparently, they want to make sequels which is pretty weeeird to me considering that they didn't set up for any kind of sequel at the end of the movie. Meh. So disappointed.

CAn anyone tell me WHY Ares and Mr. D were left out of this film? ANyone? It makes no sense. Their ages are off too and that irks me. I agree with you on the whole Luke thing too. AND he never showed up and admitted he stole the bolt in the first one! AND where was Clarisse? COME ON!
They actually did mention Kronos once, briefly. Chiron told Percy that he was his father. :/ But yeah it was really ridiculous.
THe only thing I LOVE about this film is Grover! HE makes me giggle
Prongs' Chat Bandit // Chica Latina // Heir of the Marauder Legacy
I totally agree with both of you!
I left the movies really disappointed...
Maybe if i hadn't read the book i would like it but they changed almost everything!!!
The only thing i do not disagree with the movie is the way they showed Grover
SPOILER!!: -_-
I was dying to see the scene with Ares! and the scene in Capturing the flag when Poseidon recognises Percy as his son?!
Clarisse is an important character so why did they just erased her?
and Annabeth doesn't have, not even wavy hair in the movie! she is supose to be a blond girl too! i mean how many actresses there are with blonde hair? at least make her hair wavy come on!
DUDE! Annabeth was totally NOT cool! ANd the Poseidon cabin... come on! That was so not cool. I wanted to see Poseidon claim him too!! UWAAAAA! I was looking forward to Ares too. He too is a big part of the book ya know. And Hermes and Apollo.
*sigh* I wish I had waited until after the movie to read the books!

SPOILER!!: -__- again
1. Yeah the way they spoiled Annabeth character made me mad specially cause she and Thalia r my fave characters (i'm really hoping they don't spoil Thalia too).
2. Also the cabins were supose to make an U i hated when they showed Poseidon's cabin like apart from the rest.
3. Did u notice Annabeth was in the other team in capture the flag? that was Clarisse's place!
4. What's with the pearls?
5. Why on earth does he use the flying shoes!! A thunder the size of the empire state would have hit him!
Also i want to thank u i read the books because of your post xD
AWESOME! I am glad I prodded someone into reading them They are fantastic!
SPOILER!!: T_T
Oh dude... if they screw up THalia I am going to be MAD
I was really ticked about the cabins too! I wanted things to be the way I pictured them!
Their age is another thing that irks me too though...
YES! I was really upset about Annabeth being in Clarrise's place. Percy would never have fought Annabeth like that!
THE PEARLS! THe freaking water spirit or whatever it was gave him the PEARLS they didn't go on a wild goose chase for them!
AND YES HE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING!! GRRRRR!

[QUOTE=Pink Ninja;9125303]AWESOME! I am glad I prodded someone into reading them They are fantastic!
Yap too bad the movie is kinda disappointing...
anyway
is there a 2nd movie confirmed? do u know if they already signed a contract or something like that?
or just rumors
SPOILER!!: :S
Yeah i don't know what r they going to do with their age
For starting the prophecy says "when he turns 16" and in the movie he looks that age.. i can see them changing the prophecy now
And also Annabeth actress it's 23 i think and he's what 17? unless he really grows up the nex cuple of years, the director made a huge mistake.
DUDE! Annabeth was totally NOT cool! ANd the Poseidon cabin... come on! That was so not cool. I wanted to see Poseidon claim him too!! UWAAAAA! I was looking forward to Ares too. He too is a big part of the book ya know. And Hermes and Apollo.

Actually, I didn't read the books, but I still think the film left something to be desired. Though, I think that's pretty true about most book-to-film movies. It wasn't a terrible, awful, nothing good-about-it film in my opinion, because I do think the casting was good (with one exception) and the costumes were fun, but i wasn't what I thought it would be given the raves about the books.
What I did get from the films though was a sense of how good the book probably was so I'm definitely sticking this on my 'to read' list. The idea sounded interesting to me when I first heard about it.

They r totattly worth the time
don't get me wrong, i too would think it is a good movie if it wasn't for the fact that i already read the books... the disappointing part it's how far aways it's the movie from the book not the movie itself
No no the movie wasn't TERRIBLE as far as movie's go, but you are right... it left a lot to be desired. The CGI were amazing! The scenes where Percy is manipulating the water gave me chills!
I would pin the entire series to the to-read list there, bud! It is a fantastic series.
Umm... I am not sure if a second movie has been confirmed or not. I know the actors signed on for three movies, but I think that is standard when they are basing films off of book series.
OMG! This movie was so dissapointing!!! Unless this movie is intended not to have any more movies to follow...
SPOILER!!: What I HATED!
1. Could they make it more obvious that he was the son of Poseidon? I mean it's a dead giveaway in the trailer, but it's something you don't know for sure. There's no ridiculous, "I can hold my breath for 7 minutes" scene in the pool. Poseidon actually claims him at camp; which has been mentioned above.
2. The camp --
A. What the hell is with the cabins? I like how in the books (every time, I might add), they emphasize that they are in a U shape. I know this shouldn't be a major thing to bug people, but sometimes details matter. I just had such a visual of each of the cabins having their own look together in that U and then them explaining why some of them were empty. It gave you a bit more of an insight of who each of the gods.
B. Overpopulation!!! I understand that the gods have a lot of kids, but to have that many??? I pictured maybe 30 people tops at the camp, not 100s! That's a little much. And you might say, "Well some of them were centaurs and satyrs?" Well, if you looked carefully Grover and Chiron looked like the only ones.
C. The entrance - I always pictured it on top of this grassy kill with a large Rafiki tree on top, but know it's in the middle of a forest with this big welcome sign. The tree just has such an important story with Thalia and it just irks me that this wasn't added.
3. Okay maybe my memory is off, but I'm pretty sure they don't travel finding the pearls and using a map. I might be wrong on this one, but I thought the pearls were given to Percy by Hermes...?
4. Hermione's pink dress...same kind of situation with Annabeth's hair. I'm sorry, but she's supposed to be blond. As much as her eyes just popped and worked well in the movie, she just wasn't who I pictured for Annabeth.
5. I missed Clarisse, Mr. D, and Ares too!!! These characters could have so easily been added!!! And they're kind of important to the rest of the books!
6. Where was the prophecy??? The entire book series, other than Percy of course, surrounds it. It's kind of a big deal. It leads up to this great moment.
7. The chemistry was just awkward. Well, the casting was already older, I can kind of see why, but at the same time, stick to the story. Annabeth and Percy really start off as friends. There really isn't anything romantic going on between the two of them til like the 3rd book. And don't even get me started on the horrid "Capture the Flag" scene.
8. The moment at the end with Percy and Poseidon - What was the deal there? "I can't see you because Zeus forbids gods to interact with their kids..." Umm... I don't think so! It was incredibly awkward and totally damaged the relationship I imagined Percy having with Poseidon. That would have been a good opportunity to have mentioned the Big Three, the Pact and the Prophecy maybe? Oh that's right it's so late in the movie, why should they even mention it now???
Because of what I mentioned in "What I HATED," that makes me think it's just one movie. There were two many key points left out that there's really no need to continue. It felt like it was just one movie, not part of a series.
SPOILER!!: What I LIKED (and there isn't much)
1. As much as I hate that they let the cat out of the bag about Percy being Poseidon's son too soon, I really like the opening scene. The intensity between Poseidon and Zeus really set the tone for the rest of the movie. Plus, I think Sean Bean and Kevin McKidd gave a feeling that they were brothers, even in that brief amount of time.
2. Riptide - I kind of liked it better as a clicky pen. Only cause every time I read the books and he takes off the cap, I am always wondering where the cap goes? I know it's weird, but I liked the click-pen sword!
3. Special effects - they were very up to par, but they would have to be with this kind of movie.
Well, the bad definitely outweighs the good. It just was not what I was expecting, especially coming from Christopher Columbus. I was just underwhelmed.

Reason: Let's not do that.
Well I think this movie suffered from the Harry Potter effect. I think Chris was so raptured by the special effects that he forgot about the story that made these books so famous. I for one am A HUGE Percy Jackson fan. And I was so delighted when I learned Chris was going to direct this. I mean to this day my favorite HP movie is Sorcerer's Stone. It was pure magic and it was awesome and I expected the same from Percy Jackson.
First off he totally changed the book. I mean I never would have recognized the movie if it weren't for the title. And he didn't have to do that. Fans of the book and certainly HP fans would have sat through a 2 1/2 hour movie!
And then he put Percy in his teens when in the book he was the same age as Harry when he started at Hogwarts and he lost some of that innocent magic I would have loved to have seen from a kid being shoved into a grown up's world. Just like we loved in the books.
This just fell flat for me and I'm glad that they ended the movie cutting it off as to not make any more of them, because if they screwed up all the other books I would be boiling hot.
I hate when movies ruin good books and sadly Chris ruined Percy Jackson with he heavy handed Harry Potterisms and too many special effects.

So I saw it the day after it came out. I thought, personally, it was pretty good. I haven't read the books, so I didn't really know what to expect. Maybe I'll read the books now...just because of curiosity to see how much they changed.
Okay, woah so many posts to read but I'm glad that a lot of you were disappointed as well. I agree with Angie that if I hadn't read the books yet I probably would've loved the movie. My entire family does except for me.:/
SPOILER!!: In Depth Movie stuff
1.There was no blue foods, DUDE! I mean, at least make the lemonade blue or something.
2. No happy Montauk scene and the weird dream about the two brothers fighting and Zeus saying 'give it back'
3. There were ZERO dreams really and that really ticked me off
4. Where as Thalia's tree? There were a lot of trees in there but no one actually mentioned Thalia's specific tree.
5. Why did the camp look so unorganized? Yuck. I mean, in the book, there was like specific places and the arrangement of cabins and stuff like that. This one just look like a ruddy campsite and random battles everywhere!
6. Where was Clarisse? I really wanted to see that awesome hilarious bathroom scene
7. No Delphi/Oracle either. She was really important. As was her prophecy.
8. There were no long tables for the dinners and stuff either. I wanted to see how Percy bonded with Luke and the other people in the Hermes cabin
9. What kind of capture the flag was that?! Annabeth and Percy were supposed to be on the same team! And where was the awesome trident appearing over Percy's head?! I wanted to see the claiming. :/
10. What was up with that nonsense about the pearls in the movie? 'you have to find the pearls and go to the Underworld. the pearls will help you get out there alive...bla blah blah'
11. Did anyone notice that they didn't even really say anything about the MIST?! super dee duper important and they didn't even include tha in there.
12. Whre was Ares? I really wanted to see the tunnel of love trap thing and the awesome Percy vs Ares battle
13. Where was the old lady with the Chimera/Chihuahua? I also wanted to see that huge fall in the water and Percy coming out not wet.
14. Why did they not develop Luke's character a little more? I mean, you had to see how he seemed to be very good friends with Percy and how he was a sort of mentor. Then there as the awesome scorpion scene in the book where Luke almost has Percy dead.
15. There seriously was no Hydra in the first book (but they included that in the movie), but where was Charon and Cerberus and playing fetch with Cerberus?!
16. Where was the hellhound that attacked Percy at camp somewhere during capture the flag? And what was that nonsense of Hades popping up at camp?
Yes, I realize this is a long list and I think I'll stop here before I go on and on....

Wowzers! A lot of STRONG opinions on the film, I see.
How do you all feel about the actors/actresses they chose to play the characters?
Anyone in particular you feel was cast poorly?
I thought Logan did a very good job with his part. He reminds me of Percy from the book. Same with Jake Abel who played Luke. I thought he fit the description from the beginning. I was sad Annabeth had brown hair. Alex did alright and the same with Brandon. They could have done with better actors in those two parts.
I thought they did a nice job with the gods and Medusa. She was played properly and looked her part.
^ I agree that Logan was perfect for Percy. The only issue I have is their ages are so far off from the book that they left it up in the air for sequels, in my opinion. I did not care for the actress playing Annabeth. I did love Pierce Brosnan as Chiron though.. but why wasn't he white?! GAH! Little details that get changed for no apparent reason make me insane.
I disagree about the Gods... well Poseidon in particular. He was nothing like his description in the book. I was a bit disappointed. BUT the others were great!
I agree with you Zyra... if I had not read the books and went to see this film I would have loved it, I am sure... but as it were, I did, and it wasn't my fave thing ever!
☆ Princess of RP ☆|| Lioness || XOXO | Laugh || Love || Live ☆
^ I totally agree, I mean I think with Logan, hes got that Percy look to him. When I read chapters from the books,I can now see Logan being the actual Percy in the books.
I think that the actress who played Annabeth wasnt the best choice, but then again,I couldnt see anyone else playing Annabeth except her if you get me.
There was nooo chemistry between them, which was a bit odd,and it was slightly forced And I get what you mean about the little changes. Those little changes, are the most missed, because there the bits in the story that everyone remembers!
But I definately enjoy the film better than the books
Yes, I do like Logan playing Percy, he's such a good actor!
And to be fair, Brandon played Grover really well too. I love how he's rather comical.
Alexandra (oh how I wish she was blond!), I think played Annabeth a little too serious for me. I mean, I get that Annabeth is the serious type but I didn't think she was that serious. It's to the point where she could probably play Athena...she should lighten up a bit.
I dunno about the gods. I love Athena and Hades. Hermes looked a little different from what I expected but he was pretty okay. Poseidon did look so much different from what I hoped he would look like as did Zeus. I really wanted to see the oddness of the court in Olympus with their different seats that represent who they are but there was no awesome different seats. They all looked the same in the movie. I guess they wanted Olympus to look really uniformed or something.
