Square glasses. Tight bun. Dark robes. Tartan. Tres plain, no? What do you guys think Minerva's fashion and style choices say about her? Do you think she always dressed so plain and severe, or maybe it was something that developed as she grew older? Is tartan the new black? Share your thoughts!
I think Minerva was kind of a wild child in her younger days. She probably has learned from her wild side and desires to set a good example for the students. If she comes off as the "old schoolmarm" then the students will have a little bit of fear and more respect for her. We know she is daring and brave since she is a member of the Order. She probably also thinks that she would be less noticeable if she is very boring in her dress and behavior.
Oh, I don't think she's boring. We've only ever seen her in her school clothes, and I think that she dresses that way to promote respect. She's a woman of discipline and character, and that's how she dresses too.
We've also seen her dress as Muggles, and she also dressed in the same manner...I think her age is the key factor in the way she dresses. She's too mature to be dressed fashionably and promote respect at the same time, in her opinion.

I agree with the above statement. She's set in her ways and probably shakes her head at the style of todays' youth. We all know she has a wild side, but she hides it from the students and staff, possibly showing it off during the holiday breaks or only to those she knows won't say anything. She feels she's a teacher, not someone's friend who dresses like the 'normal' people. And it gives her personality a small boost. She's strict and this shows in her dressing style.
