Well we are all aware of her as a teacher but we know so little about how she is outside the school on a day to day life. Have any of you have some kind of idea or theory about that.

Well, i always wondered if she lived by herself during the holidays & now i think she does. I dont think she has any immediate family...so she's usually by herself except at school

I don't think she has a family or children. She seems to make the school her family. She spends the holidays there and treats the students like her own children. It would be nice for her to have someone, but I don't know who that would be.

Well, she might have a family. Dumbledre had, didn't he?I think she had a family but has lost connection with them. I don't think she married or it would have been mentioned. Also, her family must have died and she left her real place then.

Good question; I think she does have family, she can't be that alone. She probably sends owls to them and visits during the summer breaks. She's the type of woman who cares, and I think she would disown or go away from her family, but trty to work out whatever problems they may face.

I wonder if any of hre family was in Gryffindor?

I think her family must have been but then again who can be sure of that. Was she a lonely kid with no brother and sister or does she had a huge family? One thing that I`m sure of it`s that she like to keep everything that is about herself away from Hogwarts. She's a very quiet woman who I can`t imagine spilling out her home problems to the first coming. I don't know why but I see her as a lady without man and she's happy with what happen in her life so far.

Minerva may present as a quiet and reserved women, but at the same time she can be outspoken. I think it is more just that she knows when to speak and use her voice, but also how to separate her personal life from her teaching life. I agree that the students of Hogwarts are like her children; especially her Gryffindors.

Truth be told, before we found out that Dumbledore was gay, I always thought that she would be a good match for him Seriously though - they are both intelligent and excel in transfiguration, love Hogwarts, etc. They would have made a cute couple... *sigh*

Okay, I'm corny, I know... you can all say it now.

I agree! I always believed, until Rowling's revelation about Dumbledore, that he and Minerva would make a great couple! (Sigh) The one thing we do know about Minerva's life outside of Hogwarts is that she is a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Most members have lost family to the Death Eaters....and some lost every member of their immediate family by trying to defeat Voldemort. I think this might have been what happened to McGonagall's family...possibly even her husband and child(s) if she ever had one when she was younger. It is definately something she would not want to talk about.

She could have been an only child , Hogwarts was her home(like Harry).
She is a great teacher because she threw her self into her studies.
I would have loved to have learned more about Minerva..

Well I think that she has grown up family and she only writes to them, and sees them during the holidays
