Throughout the HP series we have seen hints of the power Minerva McGonagall might have as a witch. In Book Five - Order of the Phoenix, after McG was hit by stunners, Madam Pomfrey told Harry "As if one of them could have Stunned Minerva McGonagall face on by daylight!" Also, just knowing what it takes to become an animagus hints at exceptional power. Also, we know that Minerva is also a member of the Order of the Phoenix. How powerful do you think she might be...like compared to some other wizards we know....like Dumbledore for instance, Moody or Snape? And, do you think this understated power will be a force to be reckoned with in Deathly Hallows?

I think her power will be needed greatly for the good guys. Without Dumbledore the people need a leader, and I think Minerva can do a really good job with that. You brought up a good piont saying that she must be exceptionally powerful. She, I believe, will be a great help to Harry in the next book.

It's obvious she's very powerful. I won't say she's just as powerful as Dumbledore or Voldmort, but I do think she's not far from that. She's definately more powerful and has a stronger character than Snape. I don't think she'll be the new leader of the Order, but she's definately someone who'll be needed. i think she'll play a huge part in the next book.

I also think Harry's will confide a bit to her in the next book because since she'll be the head of OotP then won't Harry be kinda working with her a lot. And maybe Harry will tell her about the horcruxes. I think Harry will need her immensely(sp).

I think that Harry will be told by Dumbledore to share things with McG through his portrait. She will take over that position for Harry, but with Dumbledore as a main advisor because I don't think he told McG everything although I think he told her a lot! He trusted her and knew she was loyal to him. He will fill her in about the horcruxes etc. Prior to his death, however, I don't believe he had told anyone but Harry about the horcruxes although it is obvious that Slughorn knewsome things....that Voldemort used them and that Dumbledore and Harry needed his memory about the discussion he had with Tom Riddle...but nothing else other than what he might have guessed.

^ Nice theories Tate.... I especially like the thing about DD portrait because I think it will help hopefully anyway. Minerva should be a big help to everyone in this next book.

I agree with the portait theory tate, it sounds more reasonable than my chocolate frog theory about DD. I think Minerva will show her true power in book 7, she won't shy away from defending anyone as we saw in book 5. I think there's more to Minerva than meets the eye, we don't know a lot about her, she's still a mystery.

I agree that Minerva has great power. I think she has kept it quiet up until now kind of as a secret weapon. Now that DD is gone she will be the one that Harry will look up and talk to. I think she will play a very important roll in DH and may even be the one who ultimately helps Harry defeat Voldemort.

I agree with everyone.Though we can't compare mcgonagall's power to dumbledore(he was exceptional),she is very powerful as compared to other wizards and I think she will definitely help harry and the other put up a fight against voldemort and the death eaters.Also as she would become the headmistress,she would,most probably,get to know about the horcruxes and other stuff,if she doesn't already know,from the poraits and harry.I think harry will need someone to help him and teach him higher level magic and I think minerva would do so.

One thing I believe is for certain....Harry will NOT tell anyone except Ron and Hermione what Dumbledore has told him....so any information McGonagall receives will be through Dumbledore himself! Two more things have cropped up on Rowling's FAQ that brings up some other theories that could affect McG. One is that the letter Dumbledore left on Petunia's doorstep was NOT the first time or only time they had corresponded and the second could be interpreted as putting Dumbledore's actual death in doubt! I posted them both as discussions in the Dumbledore fan club...you can go check them out even if you aren't a member of the site...you just can't respond if you are not a member! I think Harry will tell MM about DD and his discussions if DD tells Harry to. I also think that DD will tell Harry to inform McGonagall about the Horcruxes and such. I also think that either McGonagall or Moody will become the leader of The Order of the Phoenix. McGonagall is obviously very skilled if she's teaching one of the more difficult classes at Hogwarts.

Hmm, I was kinda bummed that more of this character wasn't in the latest book, but I was happy with the parts she was in! Also dissapointed that we never really got much backstory on her character either. Hopefully JKR will hook us up with more info if she ever decides to write a Dumbledore book/biography or that Hogwarts-A History encyclopedia she's mentioned. I feel like McG's got a really interesting backstory to her that hasn't presented itself yet.

Yeah I never thought she was as skilled as Dumbledore but she was definantly powerful. I think that being appointed Deputy Headmistress under Dumbledore at Hogwarts is a good symbol for her amount of power. She may not be as powerful as him but she's pretty close to it.
