The Trumpeting Augurey is a funky karaoke dive found through a hidden doorway squashed between a music store and a vintage shop in Camden Town. Once through the narrow entryway, the room opens to reveal playful décor lining the long room. Brushed chrome tabletops and bright chairs point toward the small stage at the far end of the room.

The menu is simple at The Augurey: pizzas and finger foods, and a creative bartender manning the old-fashioned soda fountain. And of course, the place is magical, so the sky is the limit when it comes to ordering: pizza with pickles, nachos and chocolate sauce, and fizzy drinks in exotic flavors.

On the stage, the singer can choose from a variety of songs, both past and present. After giving the selection to the DJ, the singer can perform as the charmed stage joins in for a magical show. Bubbles, lights and lasers, and even magical smoke will add mood and ambience to any song.

Adam Humming walked into the place. It was nice alright. He was excited. Kinda embaressing though, using a dating agency to get a girl. But after plenty of failed relationships, and he was now officially out of his twenties, he really should be open to anything. After all, he was ready for commitment.

There was only the waiter there, waiting for the order to get food. He'd gotten the note saying it was a karaoke date. Excellent. A bit of fun. His stomach grumbled. Should he wait to order for this, this Katrina Rayne to come? Adam wondered around, admiring the place. Muuuch nicer than his own apartment. He chuckled at the list of songs for the karaoke. Veery corny.

He took a seat on one of the white leather couchs and waited. Puuh-leez don't let her stand me up. That would be embaressing.

Katrina was a bit nervous. Yes, she was nervous. It had been at least two years since her last date and according to her elder brother, that was just sad. According her father, it was a good thing and according to her little sister, matchmaking was full of hearts and pretty pink stuff therefore Katrina ought to fill the paper thingy's out. Katrina Rayne... and a dating service thing. Really, though, what had become of her. Katrina smoothed out her hair, took a deep breath and walked inside, with a bit of a nervous smile.

"Uhm, hello?" Katrina said a bit awkwardly. This was definitely not a workplace, therefore all of her skills of communication had been oddly zapped away from her. Definitely unfair. The blonde looked around the room, looking for her... date. It certainly looked very comfortable, but where was the Adam H- oh. There. Sitting.

Did she walk over? Did she just stand there and stare? Did she do nothing? Or what should she do? The three cups of coffee before this had definitely not prepared her. At all.

Adam turned around and smiled at the girl. He stood up and walked over, his stomach clenching and unclenching. She was quiet pretty. That was an understatement. He felt a lot more nervous now. It would have been easier if she wasn't quiet so good looking. After, when she wasn't looking, whiping the sweat off them on his trousers, he held out his hand.

"Uh hi. I'm Adam." Wow. Smooth. Like she wouldn't have guessed that without his help. "You must be Katrina." No waaay. Ridiculus. He used to be so good with the ladies and now, look at him. Atleast he didn't start talking about the weather...yet. Hopefully he didn't have to resort to that.

Katrina smiled back at him, unsure of what to do exactly. She smoothed out her hair again, putting it behind her ear even though there was none in her face. Looking at his hand, then back at him, she supposed she ought to shake it. "It's nice to meet you Adam," Katrina managed to say without stuttering and hopefully not turning red like a cherry. She shook his hand before returning her hand to her side. She did keep a smile on her face though, hopefully that didn't turn into anything else. "Oh, yes, that would be me."

Insert awkward moment of silence here.

"So," Katrina said, looking around the room. "Karaoke room, right? Do you enjoy... singing?" she asked, looking around again. Mmm... karaoke, her younger sister would've loved this. Then again, this was supposed to be Katrina's time to just... "chill" as her cousin enjoyed saying. And instead of thinking about what other people said, maybe it would've been nice to think about what she could say. To not sound like a fool.

Embaressing silence.

What to say? What to s- Did he like singing? "Sure. I like singing. I'm pretty bad actually. Wait till you hear me. Cats being strangled sound better than I do." He smiled softly, hoping to break the ice. "I'm pretty sure I was chosen to go on a date in here 'cause I like a fun first date." Shut up. Shut up. Shut up nooooaaaaaaaawwwww. He was really messing this up.

Ask her you idiot! "What about you? D'you like singing?" He asked, looking at his feet. He had no clue what to do with his hands. Puhleeez let it get less awkward.

Adam glanced around for inspiration to start a conversation. His eyes caught the bar and the karaoke machine. "Would you like to get some food or d'you wanna start the karoake first?" Maybe if they started to do something things would get less awkward. He was pretty hungry himself but if she wanted to sing, well, food could wait.

Katrina thought he had a very nice smile. That wasn't a bad thing right? Smiling back was seemingly all she could do at the moment. But his next little statement did make her let out a bit of a giggle. "I'm sure you're not that bad at singinf, no one can sound worse than a cat being strangled, though let's hope there aren't any cats around here being strangled," Katrina said. Though she also hoped no one mistook him for a cat being strangled if he sounded like one.

"Well, fun first dates are always nice, I believe I filled that out as well." She had definitely been guilty for putting thay on her application. Did she like singing? "Not as much as I like hearing other people sing," Katrina said, laughing. Because really, she wasn't that great at it. Even if she wanted to be.

What did she want to do first? Katrina fiddled witht the zipper on her jacket, unsure of what she wanted to do first. "Karaoke first, I suppose, unless you're hungry?" Because who knew? Maybe he hadn't eaten before arriving here like she had.

Adam grinned. "You'll see." He chortled. His hunger was starting to fade. To be replaced with nerves. Maybe, after they sang a bit, it would come back. His beanie was making his head hot and he tugged it off. His hair was untidy and slightly long. "Yeah. Hopefully, even though I'm not really a cat person..." Still. No one deserved to be strangled. And besides, some kitties were pretty cuuuuuute.

"Yeah, I much prefer a fun date." Adam smiled. He mentally grimaced at some of the not so much fun first dates. From a stuffy dim-lit romantic restaurant to the zoo, with wasn't that bad till the date got annoyed with him and magicked him into a tiger cage.

Adam grinned wickedly, excitement shining in his eyes. "Sounds good. I'm a little hungry, but I'd prefer to prove my point that I sound like a cat being strangled." He turned and walked up to the karaoke machine and flicked through the songs. He wanted to find a corny song. He went straight to the musicals, knowing he was bound to find something terrible. Grinning, the music of 'You're the One that I want' from the muggle musical Grease.

"Wait till you hear this..." And he burst into an out-of-key tune. When the female parts came along he attempted to do a high, girly voice. He was half-laughing half-singing when the song finished. He pretended to dust off his shoulders, smirking. "So...Whatcha think?" He raised his eyebrows up and down and up and down.

Katrina couldn't help but giggle. She had no idea why. It wasn't like she was in Hogwarts or anything either, so she just smiled. "Cats are cute, but I do prefer puppies more," she agreed. Dogs were cute, the muggle ones, not the crups who didn't seem to like her so much. Odd creatures they were.

She nodded. She did prefer a fun date, but she had many dates before which weren't... fun but definitely sweet. Best not to bring them up, right? And he wanted to prove that he sounded like a strangling cat? Katrina plopped herself down on one of the seats, taking off her jacket and kicked her legs back and forth watching him flip through the songs.

And when he started to sing...

Katrina started to laugh. Her sides started to hurt from how hard she was laughing, especially at the high pitched voice for the female part and if she had laughed any harder, she was certain that tears would be streaming down her face. And her answer to his question? "You were brilliant, I think I heard a glass crack," Katrina said jokingly, as she tried to stop giggling.

"Yeah." Adam nodded. "And, I have to say, I look so much better carrying around a puppy rather than a kitten." He grinned playfully.

"I know." He pretended to flick back hair he didn't have. "I should audition for that muggle singing competition that airs on the box with the people inside, what's it called? W-Factor?" He grinned and sat next to her. "Oh the glass breaking? Yeah, that was my high pitch singing...not me kicking a vase over by accident..." He said shiftily, smirking.

Adam smiled at her and asked her, "Do I get to hear you sing now?" She probably was just modest and sung very well. He leaned back in the couch and was tempted to prop his feet up on the table but it might come across rude and he wanted to make a good impression.

Katrina tried to imagine him holding a puppy. She couldn't imagine it, but if he said so, she supposed she ought to take his word for it. "Would you carry your puppy in a little purse?" Katrina asked, giggling at the thought.

"I believe it's called X-Factor, is that even still running? If you do audition, I'll be sure to watch," Katrina said, smoothing her hair out again. She tucked it behind her hair, finally seeming to get over his horrible singing. Which indeed did sound somewhat like a dying cat. But. Oh. He was sitting next to her. That was what people did on dates right? Sit next to each other that is. She blushed slightly and shifted slightly away.

Did he get to hear her sing? Katrina shook her head quickly. "Nope. Not at all, for now at least. I don't sing... that well, uhm... not... nearly as great as you do," Katrina stammered, face red. Nope. No singing for her. Nope. It wasn't that she didn't like it or was particularly bad at it. It was just uncomfortable singing in front of a lot of people. She could barely say a speech properly in front of people and now they want her to perform? That was just asking a bit too much.

This was going well...in his opinion anyway. He grinned when she laughed. "Oh yeah, definitely. But the purse has to be what's that famous muggle brand? Channnell?" It was something like that. He frowned momentarily before smiling again and chuckling slightly.

He noticed her move away slightly and wanted to slap himself. Of course he shouldn't have sit next to her. It made her feel uncomfortable. "Probably not." He shrugged and smiled. He shifted away from her, pretending not to notice her blushing.

"That's okay." He said softly. "I'll just serenade you some more," Adam grinned. "D'you want some snacks or something? I'm kinda hungry." He stood up and made his way over to the bar. The stuff on the menu was...uh...interesting. He smiled at Katrina from across the room before walking back over after ordering.

Adam sat on the other side of the table so that there was room for the food. "So what wizarding school did you go to?" he asked conversationally. Their or his, food arrived. Nachos with a side of chocolate (weeeeird but he'd had worse) and two sodas that magically changed to what ever flavour you wanted in case she didn't like what he'd chosen for her. He gently pushed the bowl of nachos into the middle of the table incase she wanted some.

After taking some nachos and drinking some of his pineapple soda (don't ask) he smiled at her. "Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Always a good way to start a conversation. Adam drank and ate some more while he waited for her answer. She was obviously shy and maybe she didn't like him. Well, that was the last time he used a match making service. AND she really didn't like singing. What were they thinking sending them to a karaoke place?

He did seem to somewhat remember his Muggle Studies, if he took that course of class. "I believe it was Chanel, and I'm sure you would look absolutely dashing wearing one with a little puppy poking his head out of it," Katrina said, grinning. Yes. A pink bag with a little yorkshire terrier barking at everyone who passed by.

Serenade her some more? Katrina smiled at that thought, because in her mind, she imagined the event to come would very much sound like two whales courting each other. As she thought about it, he had returned with snacks. Nachos. Katrina liked nachos. And... chocolate? "Well... isn't this a weird combination," Katrina said, looking at the chocolate. Still, Katrina picked one up and took a bite out of it, though it was a bit hesitant. "I went to Hogwarts, what about you?" she asked, finishing off the nacho. Despite how odd it was, would it be bad if she said it tasted good?

She took a sip of her soda, and crossed her ankles. "I've got both, one older brother and a younger sister," Katrina said, wrinkling her nose slightly. She didn't like her older brother much, and her younger sister was learning to uncensor words. "Do you have any siblings?"

"It's probably a good sign I don't remember it exactly, isn't it?" he said jokingly, dipping a nacho in chocolate. Surprisingly good. "Oh I look very dashing indeed." Adam laughed. She had a good sense of humour. He drank the rest of his drink and to his surprise - though he really shouldn't have been - it magically refilled.

"I know. Never had them before but I liked the sound of them more than the pickle pizza....They're pretty good though." He said with a little shrug, looking at one intently as though it would reveal all it's secrets before getting bored and eating it. "I went to Durmstrang - I would've gone to Hogwarts except for when I was eleven I really like the idea of snow and begged my mom to let me go...I really should've guessed it would be a lot colder, and I had settled in so there wasn't much point on transferring." He added, a little frown on his features. He had been a really stupid kid.

"Just a younger brother." Bloody git that he was.

Katrina nodded her head. "It most definitely is, though I don't think it would be necessarily a bad thing to know it," Katrina replied. Because some people liked presents from brands like that, so... yeah. She picked up another nacho, dipped it into the chocolate and took a bite.

"Pickle pizza?" Katrina asked. Were they seriously serving... pickle pizza? Did such a thing actually exist? She finished off the nacho and took a sip of her fizzy drink. "I haven't met many people from Durmstrang, but I hear it's quite nice there, minus the cold, that is," Katrina said, smiling. Cold... Katrina wasn't a fan of the cold... other than the long trench jackets that came with them. And the scarves. And the boots. Yup.

"A younger brother? How old? Maybe my sister and your brother could have a play date some time," Katrina said with a little giggle. Unless his brother was older... like... twelve, because little Serene was only eight "fingers" old.

Adam chuckled. "Probably," Always good for presents for girlfriends...or his mom. He mentally grimaced. For the last while his mom had been the only girl he'd been giving gifts too. That was partially his reason for joining this matchmaking thingy-ma-bob.

He made a face. "Yeah. I really don't know what they were thinking when they did this menu..." But the nachos and chocolate were guh-ud. He dipped one in and ate it, savouring the taste. "Yeah, though I hear Hogwarts is nicer. Durmstrange has a fantastic view. We're up in the mountains." Britain used to seem freezing and now, well, it was like a bloody sauna.

"He's probably a bit old for that, he's sixteen." He grinned...but maybe he could force him to? "But I have a little cousin who's seven." She was pretty cute alright.

Katrina had to agree. She didn't know what they were thinking either. "Or if they were thinking at all," Katrina added. Because there was a chance that the creators of such a menu just made stuff up on the menu hoping no one would get sick from it. "Hogwarts definitely was amazing. The view there, particularly in the Spring is just gorgeous, I'm lucky I still get to pop back over there once or twice a year," Katrina said. She had always loved being at Hogwarts.

Sixteen? "Definitely way too old, though he's the same age as my cousin, unless he wants to play dressup with an eight year old?" Katrina asked, with a giggle. Because she knew Serene would adore it. Hehe. D'awwwh. Katrina did love little kids... when they weren't being brats. "She must be adorable." Truth. Because it was older when they got vicious and... not adorable.

Adam nodded, picking up a menu from a table nearby and frowning at it. Weeird. "Yeah, maybe." He put it back and dipped another nacho in the chocolate. Yum. He blinked, shocked. "Really? How's that?" Veery different from Durmstrang. You go back there, they lock you up. Not a very nice school.

A chance to get revenge on James? "I'm sure he would love that. Maybe she could put a bit of make-up on him too?" Hehe. He was truly evil. His expression softened slightly at the thought of Isabelle. "She is. Very." He didn't usually like kids, but when it came to his little cousin, well, he adored her.

Katrina nodded. Yes. Really. "I, uhm, work as the Senior Apparition tester in the Ministry of Magic, and sometimes we have Apparition lessons there, so it's really nice popping back there even if it's for a brief while to see everything," Katrina said, smiling more to herself at the thought of going back than anything. It really was nice. It made her feel... not like an adult. "Do you work in the Ministry of Magic?" Katrina asked. Because who knew, maybe he did, Katrina never did meet everyone there - that would be next to impossible seeing as there were so many people who worked there.

Katrina didn't know what Adam was thinking but she was pretty sure Serene would do as she wished. "I don't know what goes through my little sister's mind... but if she wants to run around with lipstick and blush, she'll do it," Katrina said, one brow raised. He must really like his younger cousin, especially since he seemed to be in some sort of... mode right now. "Just wait till she grows up."

She didn't want to think about her sister growing up. Sad thoughts about shipping her off to Hogwarts. Or Beauxbatons. Or Durmstrang. She wasn't quite sure actually, but whichever school her sister chose to go to, she'd leave it up to her sister. No interfering.

Impressive.

He nodded. "It must be good to get back there," he agreed, eating some more. That sounded like a pretty good job alright. Adam didn't think he really wanted to go back to Durmstrang. It was nice sure, but then again, he didn't have great memories of the place. "I'm hoping to. When it's looking for new employees I'll apply, but at the moment, I'm just living of the galleons I earned in Eyjpt."

Adam grinned. "She sounds great." He nodded, eating another nacho. "Yeah, she can be a bit..uh," he struggled for a word. "cheeky." He chuckled. "So...How long have you been working in the Ministry?" Adam asked, drinking some of his soda. He wasn't that hungry any more.

Katrina nodded her head. "It most definitely is." It made her feel... not old. She took a drink of her soda, wondering what it would taste like if it were to be coffee flavored... it was probably best not to find out because as much as she loved coffee, it would be gross. "Egypt? That sounds like fun, what were you doing in Egypt?" she asked. Seemed like everyone went to Egypt for some unknown reason; unknown to her, at least.

"When she isn't flushing my papers or coffee down the loo, she's lovely," Katrina said laughing. Yes. Her sister did that. Little attention craving girl, her sister was. "I've been working in the Ministry since I was... 19? So I suppose it'd be around three years, almost four since I've been there..." Katrina mused as she did a little math in her head. up, three to four years sounded about right.

She couldn't be that old. O_O He smiled at her. He did sometimes wished he was younger though. "Nothing that interesting. Not like a curse breaker or anything. Just a bit of muggle work on the side, taking care of some magical creatures." That bit your head off. But he didn't add that. That didn't reeeeaaaalllly matter. Adam couldn't help notice that they were running low on nachos. Ah well. When it was empty they could always get more, 'cause they were YUMMEH.

"She sounds adorable," he laughed. It probably wasn't funny though when it happened. Probably sucked. All your work down the drain. Literally. "Have you always wanted to work for the Ministry?" he asked conversationally, dipping a nacho into the chocolate sauce.

She hadn't met a curse breaker before, but he wasn't one... so Katrina still couldn't say she had met one. But taking care of magical creatures? That was something she hadn't heard anyone say for a while either. "Really? Like... dragons?" Katrina asked. Because that seemed to be what most guys she knew worked with. Dragons. And stuff that breathed out fire or poison or something dangerous.

"Really cute," Katrina commented. Though not really. Only sometimes. "She was cuter when she was five... when she was going through her unicorn phase." Plastic unicorns, glass unicorns, stuffed unicorns. Yup. That was a fun time. "Nope. I never intended on working there... at all, I always thought I'd travel a bit before I settled down somewhere I really liked and figure out the rest of my life there," Katrina admitted. She hadn't intended to work at the Ministry. Nor had she wanted to stay in England. But... stuff happened and she did. "What about you? Why leave Egypt?" she asked.

"No, but that would be cool." VEEERY COOL. "I worked with chimeras but only some of the time." Adam shrugged. It was fun and exciting sure but after a couple of years it just got boring. Very boring. He sipped his soda. It sure was goooooooooooooooooooooood. Besides, in Egypt, after being in the cold for so long at Durmstrang he'd always get burned no matter what sun block (wizard or muggle) he put on.

What was a unicorn phase? He, of course, was a dude and did NOT play with unicorns no matter what his git of a brother said. He didn't want to come across stupid or anything but his curiousity was burning so, "Uh...what's a unicorn phase?" He looked at his hands. She'd probably laugh now. Adam nodded. That made sense but she had a cool enough job. "Do you get to travel a bit with what you do?" Wouldn't she get to go to foreign schools to test apparition? "I left because I got to travel, see different places but was ready to go home." Sounded sappy but truuuuuuuuue.

Cool? "And dangerous." Really dangerous. Like... head bitten off or roasted on a stick dangerous. Did they never think about what could happen? Chimaeras? Katrina's face paled at the thought of being anywhere near those creatures. "They're- the chimaer-" Oh yeah, really articulate Katrina Rayne. Absolutely brilliant. "What made you want to work with the chimaeras?" she asked. Because she wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole.

"The time period where a little girl has an obsession with unicorns, it's like the princess phase, y'know, when they start daydreaming about fairytales and the whatnot," Katrina explain with a slight chuckle. She never went through the unicorn phase. But the princess phase was inevitable. Everyone went through it at one point or another. "No, even if I could I wouldn't be able to be gone for long, I've got to watch over my sister," Katrina explained. Sadly no traveling. Not till Serene was in a school and Katrina could do as she wished.

Travel. Everyone did that too, didn't they? "It sounds wonderful, did you travel a lot?"
