Madeline Christina Grau's Office

As you walk into the office of Madeline Grau, you find yourself greeted by a pleasant scent. Is it raspberries? As you open the door a bit further, you find yourself in a rather pleasant looking office. The walls are a plain beige color, but the desk and all other wooden furniture is a nice light wood. Pictures from Madeline's days at school, as well as pictures of her family and friends clutter the walls, but the main things that stand out on the walls are framed newspaper articles covering famous wizarding catastrophes. You can only assume that Madeline helped in way during each of the cases.

Madeline is out right now, but if you take a seat in one of the two navy blue armchairs in front of her desk, she is sure to be in shortly. Just be sure you've got the report from your latest assignment; despite her happy-go-lucky personality, Madeline is not one to tolerate slackers.

A Ministry Interdepartmental memo soared into Madeline's office and landed lightly on her desk, bearing this message:

Leila had taken the elevator from the first floor down to the third to speak with the Head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. She needed to check in and make sure that everything was alright. Any happenings had to be reported to the Minister Tout de Suite. THAT part, she wasn't looking particularly forward to. Alas, she did have a job to do.
Walking up to Madeline's office though, she realized that the woman was out.
She quickly jotted a note, asking Madeline to contact her, either in person or through the inter-office mail, about anything going on with the department. And to most certainly keep Leila up to date on any future events. But also to have a fabulous week.
Her note finished, Leila made her way back to her desk on the first floor.

Madeline arrived back at her office, and immediately found a note in her mailbox from Leila. Smiling, she poked her head in her office just to see if anyone else was waiting. It was all clear. My employees can behave themselves for a bit while I pop out for a visit, she thought to herself. With that, she headed towards the elevator to head down to the first floor.

Brianna walked down to the office and put the folder with their completed assignment on her desk, laying the letter on top of the others in the folder.

A young wizard, Benji Newman, has been looking for a way to put his mark on the Wizarding world, and as soon as possible. He's come up with a fantastic spell that makes all blemishes disappear instantly from one's body--without any potions at all! However, in his rush to make history, he may have skipped a few steps. He insists the spell is fool-proof, but two people have said that:

-Delilah Hucklebee, 26, used to date Newman while they were in school. She claims that he was a slacker and never did his homework, so he most likely has come up with a spell that only works once in a while. However, she also stated that she and Benji ended their relationship after he caught her kissing another boy in the detention hall.

-Gladys Victorla, 67, taught Benji at Hogwarts and said he was gifted in charms, but not much else. However, she has also said he always completed homework for her class.

So, what do you think? Are Gladys and Delilah credible sources? Who will be researching the witnesses backgrounds? Who will test the spell? What will be the final outcome?

If you have any questions please contact Madeline ASAP. This is general practice for how most missions should be planned, although this setup is subject to change. Remember to just have fun with it and get the job done! Also keep in mind that when you're on the field, it could be very different...Wizards don't always act the way you want them to

We have determined that Gladys might be a credible witness, but since she did not provide any additional information concerning Mr. Newman's schooling, we cannot decide based on her opinion alone. Delilah, on the other hand, was found to not be a credible witness. The fact that she may have some residual animosity between herself and the charm creator, and the fact that she frequents detention enough to become familiar with the boys in there, is enough to discredit her.

I've assigned Shai Levy as the Point of Contact to gather more information from his other teachers with regards to personal studies and other information they may have, and she would disperse letters like the one below to each teacher.

I've assigned Piper Underwood as the Point of Contact for Mr. Newman. She will request for him to come in and perform the charm on himself since we are unable to determine if the charm is passive enough in nature to be used on our staff or by our staff. The close proximity to the Magical Accident Reversal Squad should alleviate any problems that might arise there. If he is willing to do this charm on himself, then we shall see what the effects are, if he is not, then we can be fairly certain that his motives were not with the best of intentions. The letter she would send to him is also included below.

I would reserve final judgement until after we see the charm performed by him, or his refusal to do so, and I would add that to the information gathered from his teachers before making a final decision to approve or disprove this charm.

5. Did he ever show a propensity for creating charms and spells?

Mona stepped quickly into Madeline's office, leaving her division's folder with their current excuse:

Oh, get a grip on yourself, Corranda darling, darling, darling.

Corranda Melvicks sauntered into the Department Head's officer, her pointed, witch's hat tilted a little to the right, her dark, deep grey robes in a state of perfection. Puffs and bangs of white hair emerged from beneath the sides of her tall hat, and her toothy smile was wide.

Very wide.

The place was empty. Groan. Corranda helped herself to a chair, hoping it was used to carrying as much weight as she possessed - Oh, how flimsy and thin and weedy all of those employees were, these days! - and looked around. Then she took out a pipe of sorts from one of her many dangling, robe pockets, and popped it into her mouth.

Where is that accursed head?

Madeline walked up to her office and found herself--predictably--with an overflowing mailbox. My goodness, her employees worked fast! She had only popped down to level one for fifteen minutes and some were finished with their assignments. She picked up the folders and entered her office to find another surpirse; Corranda Melvicks, who she knew only by face, sitting in one of the chairs with a pipe in her mouth. Or, at least, what looked like a pipe.

"Oh, hello," she said happily, walking over to her desk and dropping the folders haphazardly on the mound of papers she had yet to look over, "How can I help you today?" she asked.

She was so - maddening, Madeline. her voice was sweet and her figure was thin and her eyes were pretty and her job was big - big, big, big. How awful!

Corranda just hated her, now.

She tipped her hat towards the left, because it was leaning too far to the right, and then took the pipe out of her mouth. "Hullo. How may you help me?" Her voice was half wheezy, half soft. Sickly sweet, in a way. "Yes, help."

She shifted in her seat, making herself more comfortable. "Now, then, Head, I have a very useful charm to present to your Committee on Experimental Charms. Very useful indeed."

For Corranda, not for Madeline. But she wasn't going to tell the Head that, of course.

"Really?" Madeline said, more like a statement than a question, sitting down behind her desk and folding her hands across the pine finish. "Well, that is certainly a surprise. Let me just check to make sure that they don't have any appointments lined up for today..." she added, her voice trailing off as she consulted the desktop calender beneath her hands, "No, everything seems open for today. You can head over there right away, if you wish," she said happily. "You'll have to fill out some paperwork when you get there, of course, but that shouldn't take more than a few minutes." she informed her.

"A surprise?" Corranda repeated, her beetle, black eyes narrowing silkily. These thin, new employees knew nothing! Nothing at all. It did not even occur to Corranda for a moment that, being the Head of a Department, the woman must have quite a lot of knowledge to be on the post.

"It shouldn't be a surprise," she said, overly sweet. "I'm a very good witch. Maybe I should show you one of my charms. How about your desk for an object? Or maybe that's not such a good idea-?"

Paperwork? Paperwork for Corranda? To put it mildly, Corranda Melvicks was not at all pleased. Quite the contrary, actually; indeed, this was most disgruntling. So now they required her, Corranda Melvicks, to fill out papers.

How maddening!

Corranda stood up, deciding she had better go along with the paperwork, if it was such a huge necessity. "I think I'll head over to your Experimental Charms division, after all," she said, not very cheerfully. "Paperwork, and all."

"Hi, Madeline. I'm so sorry to bother you again. Do you have a moment?"

Sitting in the proffered chair in front of Madeline's desk, Leila sighed, "I was just wondering if you would know the head of the Invisibility Task Force? I was down the hall at that office earlier, but no one would direct me to the head of the committee. It was as if they either couldn't hear, or were completely ignoring me. I need to speak with this person about the Minister's upcoming wedding. And actually, as head of this department, I should probably include you in the meeting. Can you help me?"

Madeline smiled. Weddings, I love weddings! she thought to herself, "Actually, the head hasn't shown up since last week. We're in the process of promoting someone from within the Department to Head," she explained, rubbing her temples as she spoke. There was just SO much that had to get done. She sighed, "If you'd like, we can hold a meeting in the conference room. I'll send a memo to my Invisibilty Task Force straight away." she offered.

But it is what I've been assigned to do, and it is one of the top priorities at the ministry at the moment. Especially since there is to be a press conference very soon. "I'm sure it will be," Madeline assured her. "Could you be a doll and do a favor for me? The Minister is requesting a meeting with Doyle...and unfortunately that is not an option. With that, Madeline flipped her hair over her shoulder and scurried out of the office.
