Default Entry Chamber

The Department of Mysteries is a section of the Ministry of Magic that carries out confidential and labyrinthine research, and much like the concepts studied here, it is perhaps the most confusing to navigate. There is no main corridor and therefore no reception desk nor receptionist. Instead there lies a circular chamber circular room with a dark marble floor that looks almost like standing water. Floating candles emitting a cool blue light illuminate the room with an eerie glow. Whenever a door closes, the walls rotate, making it impossible to determine which door is which. For those who have business within the Department, all one must do is speak the name of the Chamber or Room with which said business is and the room will guide you - spinning until the appropriate door stops directly in front of you. It is not uncommon that visitors to the Department will walk through the door only to find themselves right back where they started and may need to wait for an Unspeakable to pass by to assist as this Spinning Room is known to have a mind of its own.

OOC: this is a PUBLIC thread. All Ministry employees and visitors are welcome to RP here and have creative license (within reason) over the Spinning Room. It is not uncommon that the room enjoys pulling the leg of non-Unspeakables, however. If your character is here to visit with a Mysteries employee, you can feel free to post on through to the appropriate area. Please keep in mind that due to the secretive nature of the Department of Mysteries that their may be severe consequence IC for entering certain Chambers and Rooms that are not PUBLIC. Please contact the Department Head if you have concerns or questions.

As he had approached the Entry Chamber, he had heard it spinning and paused to wait for it to stop. Perhaps his ears were playing tricks on him, but he could have sworn he heard his name. Odd…why would someone be calling for him? His heart began hammering in his chest. He wondered briefly if Reil was calling out for him. Maybe he would take a brief side-trip to the Thought Chamber before he headed out to the food court for lunch. Just to make sure that the encephalons weren’t restless or up to something again.

As he opened the door, the room immediately set to spinning again. Out of habit, Adam closed his eyes as he waited for the room to stop spinning again. Only…

What was that sent in the air? It was familiar. He sniffed and turned slightly, but the spinning room made locating and identifying the smell difficult.

It was going to spin again, why was it spinning, why couldn't she get out? Zita was nearly in a panic when a door opened and a very familiar person walked inside. Could he see her? No, he didn't, she noticed he turned in the other direction. She tried to move, but the spinning was just too much and she sighed a bit and just tried to hold on to the nearest thing.

"Adam, why is this doing this?"

Wait...

Was he even there? Was he real? Was this stupid room playing tricks on her?

Wait...

The room was almost done spinning when he heard his name again. Adam turned away from the entrance that stopped in front of him (and would have led him to the Thought Chamber). He knew that voice "Sita?" He of course was 'looking' completely in the wrong direction. Perhaps he had heard incorrectly. Maybe one of the other encephalons had learned how to call out to him.

But no. Her being here would explain why he was smelling the scents he usually associated with Zita. He still wasn't sure if it was her hair products or her perfume. And there was something else... a baked good?

But why would she be here? How would she have gotten down here? Had she gotten into one of the rooms? Did he need to report this to Security? If she had gotten through one of the doors, what had she seen? Was she okay? He knew all too well how stumbling into the wrong room could cause lasting problems.

Hearing him say her name was probably the best sound she had heard since coming into this damn thing. All she wanted to do was try and do something nice for someone (this was a rare thing for her) and look where it got her. She was almost sick from all the spinning, confused as to why they would have this stupid thing like this, and getting more irritated with even trying to come here as the moments ticked on.

"Adam what the hell is this? Why does it keep spinning?" She finally got over to him and put a hand on his shoulder more to steady herself than anything. Once her hand was on his shoulder she did close her eyes to try to get the movement to stop.

"You seriously go through this every day here? How are you still working here?"

”It’s zee entry chamber,” he said obtusely, completely misunderstanding her emotions and question. ”It’s vhat it does.” He’d never really thought to question why the chamber spun and made things difficult, but now that she had brought it up, a realization came to him. ”It is ein zecurity meazure.” Because the average person wouldn’t want to see what was behind those doors and he really hoped she hadn’t made it through to one of the other rooms.

”Did vou try any of zee doors?” he asked, hoping he sounded curious and not worried or accusatory. He felt her hand on his shoulder and reached for her waist to help steady her. Maybe the enchantment just didn’t hit Unspeakables the same way. He’d have to ask his boss about it sometime. Truthfully though, spinning didn’t bother him much, especially now that his eyesight was limited. But get him on a boat or something that rocked under his feet and he’d loose his lunch before you could say ‘sea sick.’ ”Guess I got uzed to it. Clozing your eyes helps.” He of course, couldn’t tell that Zita already had closed her eyes.

”Vhat are vou doing here?” he inquired a small smile pulling on his lips. ”I zought your classes had started.” Despite his concerns about a possible security breach, he was happy to see her. He’d never ever had anyone try to visit him. All his social interactions had always been planned. It wasn’t that Adam wasn’t spontaneous – but rather that he just didn’t have relationships like that. And if he was honest with himself, he hadn’t expected to see her for a while. Especially after the Minister had assumed she was his daughter the last time they had gone out. Adam also had assumed she’d find someone more her age at university. That she was here, in the bowels of the ministry trying to (he assumed) find him warmed his wary heart a little.

Feeling a bit sick from the spinning and frustrated that she actually tried to do something nice and it was turning into a flop, she was actually shocked the treat that was in her hands wasn't all on the floor. That would have been the last of her nice tries and she would have probably never tried to come here again.

The entry chamber? It's what it does? That was only making her more on edge and her nice side was going into hiding behind walls. "So basically this department thinks it's funny to make people sick if they wish to come to see an employee. Do you get joy seeing people spin? Is there a mirror you can entertain yourselves? " Her emotions were getting the best of her and she soon found herself doing her calming breathing, something her healer told her to use when she felt the walls and the feeling to lash out. When he said it was for the security she just eyed him more. Had none of them realized it was 2099 and there had to be a million better ways to do security than a spinning room.

"Yes I tried to the door, it sent me right back to this room and started spinning again." HIs arm around her felt comforting and she didn't find herself questioning as she usually did, but her level of irritation with the entire situation made her stiff instead of allowing her to lean against him. "I had" had she? She couldn't actually remember now and her mind felt confused with everything.

"I had gotten done with class and popped into a small bakery for some coffee and saw the pastries. I don't know, it just made me think of you so I bought one and brought it over. I didn't realize after checking in with security and getting the visitor pass at the front of the ministry that it would be so complicated to deliver it. Guess I should have just used an owl."

Her tone, coupled with the stiffness of her body made Adam pull his hand back. He felt as if he had done or said something wrong, but he wasn’t exactly sure what. ”Nien,” he said shaking his head ‘no’ to her questions about a room or a mirror and to watching people for entertainment. That would be really really weird, not to mention creepy. Of the many things Adam was, a voyeur was not one. He realized his hands were up, fingers splayed in a defensive manner and quickly dropped them to his sides. If she didn’t like the entry chamber, she certainly wasn’t going to like the rooms that led off it, but he had a feeling he had best keep those comments to himself. ”But zere are zings in here zat can really hurt people,” he said softly. He was walking talking proof of that.

Hearing that she hadn’t made it into any of those rooms was reassuring. It meant she hadn’t been hurt, he didn’t have to file a security report, she didn’t have to talk to anyone, and he could get her out of this room as soon as possible. And then maybe, just maybe she would calm down. Although now that he thought about it, it meant another spin, because the only door that was open should be the Thought Chamber and he was not taking her in there! He could try the Assembly Room. Yes, that would probably be the best place to take her…

Thinking about how to get her out of the Entry Chamber, Adam hadn’t been paying attention and when he zoned back in Zita was talking about pastries and coffee and owls? . . . Oh! His brain clicked the pieces into place. She had come to see him…bring him a treat even. He felt suddenly self-conscious. ”Nien one has ever ….” he couldn’t think of the right word in English. Feeling stupid and self-conscious, he pushed his hands into his pants pockets, bunching his shoulders up a little. ”It vas kood - ah - friendly of vou to …” He stopped talking. Would she have rather owled? Or was she just being querulous? He couldn’t tell and not for the first time, he wished he could see facial expressions.

Maybe he should just lead her out of the Entry Chamber and back up to the Atrium. She did seem rather upset, but maybe it wasn’t about the Entry Chamber at all? Maybe whatever this was between them was entering territory that Zita was uncomfortable with? He had a feeling this was the first time she’d ever done something like this. Maybe she had just gotten very scared and didn’t know how to process it? If that was the case, pushing her away was probably not a good idea. He’d likely never see her again, and he didn’t want that. ”Sita?” he said gently, as he pulled his hands back out of his pockets. ”Danke for coming. If vou vant, I can valk vou back up to zee atrium.” He paused and after a moment’s hesitation, he reached out for her hand. ”But I hope vou don’t vant to go. Let me get vou ein drink to say vielan dank.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah she understood people could get hurt, hell look at him. If he wasn't proof that this level or maybe the entire ministry should be shut down she wasn't sure what was. Z never really care much about politics didn't really understand why anyone would really want to work in the ministry and get roped up in everything that went on. Plus, after meeting the minister and having him so rudely say that she was Adam's daughter she wasn't sure if she fully felt he was able to lead everyone.

She looked around the room not sure where the exit even was at this point but wanting to find it. She couldn't understand why everything that involved guys she liked was so damn complicated all the time. Why was it that others had it so easy, had fairy tales and she had nightmares. All she needed was a killer to jump out and it would be the perfect new horror flick for the muggles. Trying to avoid her past and start new she thought would work, but James had proven that wrong and then there was Adam. He was sweet,, but still a little awkward. What were they even? They had been out a few times, but was this considered anything or just friends hanging out? She was so confused and this ending to her day was not helping.

Friendly? Good?

What was she just some random coming to bring him lunch? Maybe she was looking at this all wrong, maybe she had just made an idiot of herself, and right now all she wanted to do was run away. She felt her body stiffen as it always did and the emotional walls going up that she hadn't pulled out in a while, but there they were just as if nothing in the past year and a half had even happened. "It's nothing really, I was in the neighborhood so.." She hadn't been, it wasn't easy really getting here, but she stuck out her hand with the bag so he could take it.

"Now if you don't mind I'd like to go home." She felt so stupid and she needed to leave before anyone noticed them in here. She didn't want to get him in trouble and she didn't want to feel like she did any longer. Her eyes lowered when his hand went to her's instead of the bag. She bit her lip for a moment thinking about it. "Are you sure you can step away, this place seems like you are needed." Though it was like this every day from what she was gathering.

Taking a deep breath she looked at him, "Coffee would be nice if there is somewhere we could get a cup." She figured the ministry didn't have something stronger so that would have to wait until she left.
