Default Offices of Gobstones, Quidditch, and Recreational Sports

In a very large area, you will find many cubicles filled with busy workers from both the Quidditch and Gobstone Divisions. These two divisions work in the same workspace but on opposite sides of the room. On one side you will find everything quidditch from public relations to regulations and administration workers doing their jobs no matter what season it is. On the other side, you will find everything Gobstones related, their administration is always hard at work. If you keep moving back in the extra long office room you will find another set of cubicles, these are filled with the recreational sports division. If you are needing anything from horse racing, youth leagues, or youth muggle sports this is your place.

Quidditch Division Manager is Lucas Hawthorne
Gobstone Division Manager is Milo Jordan
Recreational Division Manager is Nick Blower

OOC: All Sports rosters and scores can be found here and here.

West was right. If things didn’t work out with the water, then they’d need to think fast. He refused to die at the vines of a plant. Not when he was due to get married in a few months. He aimed his wand at the vines. “Aguamenti.’’ Come on... work...

It seemed to be doing just that for a few moments and Lucas had a moment to relax and breathe normally. Too bad that only lasted for what seemed like a few seconds before he was being crushed again. “Finite! West! Janis. Watering it isn't helping.'' Why did it seem as though his muscles were being suffocated? Didn’t Janis feel that squeeze?

Lucas considered Incendio but that would have to be used carefully and definitely calmly. He struggled to take a breath before focusing. “Incendio,’’ the man said and pointing his wand at a vine. He concentrated so that he would not cast too big of a flame. The last thing they wanted to do was the set the place ablaze.

If West and Janis had any other ideas, they were most welcome to try them.

Should they try being nicer to the menace?

What a wonderful time of year! Trading season, she could feel the energy all around from the buzz of who was retiring, who was trading and going where. Victoria even told two reporters no comment twice today. Merlin, there were days she wondered how anyone had a better job.

She knew Gobstones were in full swing too and needed to check up on all those scores as well. Oh the wonderful world of sports. Being at work definitely took her mind off of more personal things and she couldn't help but love her job, who wouldn't love working with the team she had.

Did Layla want to be here? Not particularly. But it was a job and it was well paid and it made family life so much easier and her wife so much happier that Layla knew that she had to get a job in the Ministry and at least this department helped her to stay within the industry she had made for herself even if she had no interest in Magical sports whatsoever. She’d never seen a Quidditch match, Gobstones sounded a weird concept and what other sports were there? Still she was here bright and early and with her trademark straight-faced expression.

She had arrived at the Ministry with her wife and had dropped their little girl off at the daycare. She’d kissed her goodbye as they separated and made plans to meet back up at lunchtime. She’d walked to her department expressionless. Layla didn’t feel particularly nervous, in fact she didn’t really feel much emotion at all. It was difficult to get to know the now twenty-nine year old for she never really showed much at all but you could see it in the way she looked at Bambi and Ariadne.

Once she had arrived at the Department she wandered around looking for her desk to sit at. The Minister has mentioned something about the Quidditch World Cup and she understood that meant the Department was going to be extremely busy which meant she would have to socialise and interact with people.

This was worse than school.

West had been working at his desk since early that morning. Much earlier than most arrived at the Ministry, but he liked the quiet before the rest of the department arrived. It was going to be busier than normal for their department and he valued his leisure time in the evenings. The only way to ensure he had enough time to chill was to front load his day.
He'd gotten a good deal of work done before he heard the first set of footsteps headed his way.

Ready for some socializing, he hopped up from his desk and almost jumped out of his cubical. "Good morning! It's such a beautiful day, isn't it? I'm on my third cup of coffee, how about you?" He gave her a little teasing wink, noticing the less than morning person look on her face.

Layla should have probably been warm and friendly and offered a great big smile and a handshake to the person that had joined her but that just wasn’t her. It wasn’t because she was rude, it wasn’t because she didn’t like people (although sometimes that was the case) it was because really Layla was an introvert who only socialised with her sort of people and the people that worked at the Ministry just weren’t that type. She wasn’t really that keen on Hogwarts in general however some of the friends she made there she would keep for life and for that she was grateful. She was here because it was convenient and necessary and she liked to see her wife happy.

She was twenty-nine now. It really was time to anchor down and seriously consider her future, especially with her little girl heading towards primary school age.

She glanced up at the figure who stood before her, her expression straight-faced and emotionless. The guy seemed to be full of caffeine from the plentiful cups of coffee he had clearly consumed. “I don’t drink coffee.” She didn’t really drink much other than water to be honest. Bambi had the family on a healthy diet and Layla didn’t really mind too much about that anyway. The woman was tall and skinny and sporty and fatty food wasn’t really that high on her agenda. She never consumed caffeine, not even in a cup of tea. As for the wink, she completely ignored that.

West was completely oblivious to any lack of friendliness coming from Layla. In fact, he took her body language as a sign that she was in desperate need of some lively conversation. "No coffee. Well, I'll be sure to drink your share." He reached down and grabbed his mug, lifted it to her and took a big gulp. "I'm West, by the way, I'm sure we met at the event, but I'm horrible at remembering faces and names." It was a skill he'd never learned and figured it didn't matter too much since he was happy to call almost anyone a friend.

After putting his mug back on his desk he gestured to the many empty work stations. "Which one is yours? Maybe we will be close enough to have a good chat each morning." The fact was that the entire office was close enough for him to chat with anyone in the room, booming voice and all, but he wasn't sure of her willingness to holler across the room. He pointed to the desk directly across from his, "Janis used to sit there, but I'm afraid she has left the department. You know, it was right after the plant attacked us that she left. I wonder if that's what caused her to leave?" He rubbed his chin. "Don't you worry though, there haven't been any attacks in a while."

"Hey, I have a splendid idea. We should gather up with the rest of the department after work today and grab a pizza and some drinks." Surely she needed to have a good hang out with her new department mates.

He could drink her share all he wanted provided that he didn’t bounce around the department like a pumped up kangaroo. “Go ahead” she shrugged. She had a glass of water before her and that was what she would be drinking for the entire day. “ Layla.” She didn’t remember meeting him, in fact Layla had spent the entire event glued to her wife’s side actively avoiding any opportunity to socialise rather than getting stuck in like they were supposed to.

She wasn’t here to make friends. She was here to earn a wage and make her family proud.

She hadn’t actually been told what desk was hers but made a note to not take the desk near West. Talking was distracting and he was way too peppy to be the sort she conversed with. “That one in the corner” she pointed at the empty desk on the far side. It was still within the main hub but far enough away to be private and she could concentrate on her work. She was only half listening to his blabbering on about the plant attacks. To be honest she wasn’t surprised, Hogwarts had always been full of mishaps and weird coincidences. “I hear that sort of thing happens all the time anyway” she shrugged. As long as nothing went anywhere near the daycare.

What seemed like a ‘splendid’ idea to this man seemed like a terrible one to Layla. There was absolutely no way that she wanted to sit and eat pizza (which she didn’t eat anyway) with a load of people that she barely knew. This guys enthusiasm over the idea made the thought even worse. “I have already made plans for tonight.” It wasn’t a lie, she had to pick up her daughter straight after work and the couple had made plans to go out for dinner as a family to celebrate (or commiserate depending on how the day would go) Layla’s first day at the Ministry providing that Bambi wouldn’t have to stay late. Either way Layla would not be going out for dinner with this lot that night.

West tapped his temple when she said her name. "Layla. It's in there, at least for the time being. Either way, it's a pleasure to meet you and I'll probably ask you for your name a few more times." He shrugged apologetically and gave her a half smile.

"The corner desk is nice. That will give me a reason to get up and stretch my old legs a few times a day." He loved having a reason to get up from his desk throughout the day. Sitting quietly and still was not a trait he possessed and any excuse he had to get up he was all for. "The plant attacks only happened the once, but the year before there were these gobstones that gooed up the place something terrible. Such a mess. I guess there's always some sort of excitement going on here. Keeps it interesting."

"Well, another time. I hope you have something nice planned." He was hardly phased by her rejection of his dinner invitation. Her response gave him hope of another night and he would be asking again. Hanging out with his department mates was one of his favorite things to do after work. They all had to eat, right? Why not do it with people you know. For just the briefest of moments, he wondered if maybe it was time he started dating and find a special someone, but the thought passed before it had a chance to settle in.

Was she supposed to be polite? Did she have to say what a pleasure it was to meet him and that she was oh so looking forward to working with him when quite frankly she didn’t really care? It wasn’t that she hated people, it was just that she only liked certain people and it took a long time for her to be comfortable enough to actually be herself around them. It didn’t help that Layla rarely smiled either and just gave off that unfriendly demeanour. Still, she didn’t really want people to dislike her already and so she nodded at the bloke. “Likewise” Layla did however have a good memory and she wasn’t one for forgetting names. “I’ll put a name plate on my desk” Although the less people that knew her name the better and she’d been called far worse in her life. Like Lala, her cousins favourite nickname for her that he still insisted on calling her despite them being much older now.

No, mate. That was NOT an invitation for him to get up and annoy her frequently throughout the day. Were all the employees going to be this upbeat and peppy because this was going to get tiring after about five minutes. She groaned inwardly. “It’s further away from distractions.” Hint hint! As for having to get up frequently it was kind of ironic that a department that focused on sports and games had so many desk based jobs. She was hoping that there would at least be a couple of opportunities to play a sport or something.. Quidditch she really didn’t care much about but how about a Ministry football team? Or even better, Hockey! She could show these wizards a thing or two..

Gobstones and man-eating plants didn’t really sound like her idea of ‘excitement’. “Lets hope this year ain’t so eventful then.” Yes, Layla Ackerly has mellowed since leaving school and growing up but there was something she hadn’t lost yet, her South London accent but she was trying desperately on advise from her friends to disguise the accent as much as possible. It was ‘more professional’ or something.

Not that she really cared. She was proud of her heritage.

Did she have to tell him what she had planned? No. Her private life was her private life and she didn’t really fancy talking about it all right now. There would probably come a time where she couldn’t really make excuses to not socialise anymore and would be forced into interactions with her fellow colleagues.

Speaking of.. Where were the rest of them?

Some of the owls might have gotten confused on where in level seven to take the boxes of equipment, so some of the boxes have been misplaced into the offices and on some desks. With the dropping of boxes and owls coming in and out some of the contracts and other important World Cup documents have been scattered around the offices.

After a nice lunch, West headed back to the office to work on World Cup business. Upon his arrival, his jaw dropped. "Holy Hippogriffs! What happened here?" It was a mess. Papers were scattered about and boxes were placed randomly around the room. All he could think was 'here we go again' and bent down to start picking up the papers.

Since he had started at the Ministry there had been interesting happenings. Goo, bludgers, that crazy plant, and the current situation which he wasn't really sure what it was. He glanced around as he picked up the papers to see if any of his colleagues had seen anything.

Jacob came out of the lifts and entered the Gobstones Offices to clear away some of his regular work before he took care of the extra world cup business he had been assigned when he heard his buddy West’s shocked tone. Looking up, Jacob blinked several times as he tried to fathom the scene in front of him with the equipment boxes and owls and scattered documents everywhere mumbling. "Blimey, has someone messed up big time?"

Heading into the office towards West, he saw that his own desk was riddled with both documents and boxes with the world cup logo on them and even some fresh owl droppings on top of his gobstones stuff. Making sure not to step on anything too important looking Jacob stopped when he reached West and gestured around them. ”Any idea what in flaming gumballs is going on mate? Has the owl delivery company had a melt down? This will take forever to sort through."

West just shook his head when he heard Jacob. "I'd say someone messed up and left it for us to clean up." There was a hint of annoyance in his voice. Not that he minded helping out to get it cleaned up, but for the fact that the mess was there in the first place. They already had more work than usual with quidditch prep and he really didn't care to spend another late night at the office.

"Some of my files are missing and I think I have a box for Victoria on my desk. I haven't made it any farther than that. I think we are going to have to check out all of the packages and sort through all of the papers on the floor to see where they belong." He glanced at the clock. "You're right, this is going to take a while." Speaking of Victoria, they should probably let her know in case she was waiting for an important delivery.

Jacob was counting the packages and documents when West responded. Giving up the futile task he grumbled as he lifted up a package to examine who it was addressed to before he looked over at West with a sigh. "Yes, someone messed up and didn't want to deal with the aftermath so they left it like this. So how about we divide the load? I can start organizing the packages in piles after who they are addressed to, and you can do the same with the documents?" It seemed like the easiest thing to do right now unless West had a better idea.

At West's mention of notifying Victoria he wondered. "Yes good idea West. Can you send Victoria a memo and also one to Lucas and maybe Milo too?" He then turned to start arranging the nearest packages.

At the Gobstones end of the work area, Autumn had been sitting at her desk for the past three hours. As it was nearing the Quidditch World Cup, she had a ton of work to do - not only did she have to play her part as an employee of Games & Sports by planning for the World Cup, but she also had to focus on the Gobstones season that had just begun. After she finished writing up this report on a case of equipment violation in a recent Gobstones game, she had to direct her attention back to the World Cup and confirm the list of Healers who would be present at the matches.

Whenever she got tired, the 28-year-old had to remind herself that this was the job she loved and chose to return to after her years of absence. Quidditch and Gobstones were her passion and she LOVED working behind the scenes to make these sporting events happen. Imagine her delight when she heard that they were to host this year's Quidditch World Cup! The heavy workload was something she had to manage efficiently in order to make the event a success. At least she managed to get great tickets for the finals... oh, the perks of working on Level 7.

Autumn put down her quill, leaned back in her chair and stretched her arms. She reached out for her cup of tea, but found to her dismay that it was empty. Darn it, she had to get some more - she needed tea in her system to work productively. Perhaps it was time to take a short break?

Nathaniel has been preparing all of the press releases about players arriving to the area for the World Cup. If he wasn’t doing that he was getting the list together for the meet and greets. It seemed like if it wasn’t one endless writing task it was another. His words had begun to look and sound like boring pieces to him. But, he really wanted to do his part, he was new after all and didn’t want to get sacked his first six months.

Scratching the back of his head as he reread the press release again he decided it was time to take a break. What good did it do his department if they had poor write ups? It would decline interest that’s what good it would do. He needed something to break up his monotony. Standing he went to get some fresh tea. Maybe that would get his creative juices flowing again. Oh he needed to find his tickets for the cup when he got home. He had absolutely no idea where he had set them last week.

Standing from his desk he began to walk of in search of tea. Looking around the room he spoke up, “anyone need anything? I’m headed for some tea.” wow way to be outgoing for once. He was kind of surprised by his actions.

And of course, that was when she heard the word "tea". The voice came from the opposite side of the large work area, but Autumn's ears were programmed to catch words that she liked (weren't everyone's?), no matter how far away the source is. She also had to admit that she was losing concentration and becoming easily distracted, perhaps because she had been staring at pieces of parchment for way longer than her attention span allowed. All the more reason to get more tea.

"I'll go with you," the woman said as she jumped up from her desk, grabbed her empty mug and walked over to Nathaniel. It was then that she realised that she had never properly talked with this guy before, aside from the general "hi"s and "hello"s. He didn't seem to be the most outgoing person, so she was slightly surprised to hear him speak to the room at large. "How are you doing today, Nathaniel?" Autumn asked her coworker with a pleasant smile as she led the way towards the drinks corner.

Nathaniel's head turned spotting Autumn. He had met her but hadn't really spoken to her. He was usually the one keeping to himself and he didn't mind that at all. He was seriously trying to branch out. He was tired of hearing his fathers ask when he was going to bring home someone or have kids. They wanted grandkids. Merlin.

He stretched his back a bit, he had been writing and owling all day to try and fix the issues that may be presented at the cup. "Well alright," he smiled trying to be friendly. He didn't want to seem like a jerk. Smiling he looked at her, "I'm doing well. I might be starting to go cross eyed with all of this paper work for the cup..." he sighed taking a deep breath as well. "How are you doing Autumn?"

Autumn nodded, as she could understand what Nathaniel was going through. The Quidditch division surely had a lot of work to do for the upcoming World Cup, from finalising contracts to inspecting equipment and publicising. Though publicity did not seem to be a big issue, seeing as everyone around the world knew about the event. Tickets for the games sold out super quickly! She was indeed very lucky to have gotten tickets at all - and for the big championship match!

"I'm okay too, though I have been sitting at my desk for way too long. I prefer being outdoors to being cooped up inside," she explained. Don't get her wrong, her job did involve a great deal of outdoor work at Gobstones games, which she enjoyed, but there were also days like this where all she did was write reports on her desk. There were a lot more benefits to this job though (like those World Cup tickets mhm), so she really couldn't complain too much.

He followed her lead as the began walking. He was so ready for a nice relaxing nap after this was all over. He laughed as she mentioned enjoying being outside rather than inside. Yeah he knew that feeling. "It's terrible being cooped up inside all of the time." he truly enjoyed the warmer weather when he could run outside and enjoy his evenings. Not being great at small talk, but not wanting to be rude, "How is the gobstones division getting along with all the hubbub of the cup?" he figured it made her job slightly annoying.

Autumn put some water in the kettle and waited for it to boil. It wouldn't be long before she had another warm mug of tea in her hands. Then she could focus on her work again. Or perhaps she could take a lunch break? She would have to grab a bite to eat sooner or later, it might be better to finish her lunch before returning to her work rather than having to disrupt her progress again later on.

She smiled as Nathaniel agreed with her, then asked about the Gobstones division. "Well, it does mean that we have more work to do, since we have to manage our Gobstones games as well as deal with the Quidditch World Cup. But we are all passionate about sports, so we don't find the extra work too annoying... at least, that's how I feel," she said genuinely. "Did you get your tickets for the World Cup?"

Mornings, before others got in, were the best mornings of all, especially when she had a little treat for her group. She had been doing some research over the break and had found some ideas to make the office more effective. A book she had picked up was a fun read and with a title like 101 ways to help your employees love their job more how could you go wrong. One of those ways would be to treat them with nice little surprises, so for their first day back, Victoria set a little gift bag on each of their desks.

The gift bags had little stress balls shaped as snitches and gobstones, candy, tea bags, a donut, and some new quills. As she finished putting the bags on each other their desk she made sure each had a little card attached.

Deareast Level Seven,

We will be trying out some new things this year. I want you all to know how appreciated you are and that I'm trying to make your work area the best it can be. We will be doing a few new things to help keep stress down and some fun around. With some of these please feel free to have casual Wednesday and Friday.

Have a great day!

Victoria

Once she was finished she sat down at her desk to look through some of the mail.

Without knowing it, Lucas came in only as Vic was taking her seat at one of her desks. Usually, he was one of the Level Seven employees who arrived early. His neatly and freshly cut hair and beard trimmed low was bound to give off the vibe that he was ready to dive back into work immediately. After all, for him, this wasn’t work... it was something that he loved to do. Already making a mental note of what needed to be done, the man arrived at his desk. It was only when he sat down that he realised there was a gift bag there. Lucas had been so lost in thought that he had failed to observe earlier that there were bags on each desk. Until now, that is.

The first thing that the Quidditch Division Head did was to read the card. A smile crossed his features. Victoria was possibly the best boss he had ever had. He scanned the offices for her and when she was located, Lucas waved to catch her attention. “Thank you for this, Vic.’’ Already he was going through the bag’s contents.

Carrying a hefty stack of gobstones league player contracts Jacob entered a few minutes after Lucas and Victoria. The blond guy nodded his head to his colleagues on his way to his desk accompanied by a chipper greeting to them. "Hello boss and Lucas. It’s a lovely day to start working again isn’t it?" Arriving to his desk in the gobstones division section Jacob dropped not without feeling happy the load of contracts he had been carrying. The work had piled up over the holidays so it was just to get to it.

Jacob had hung his jacket over the back of his chair and had taken a seat when he noticed the gift bag. Drawing the bag closer he took a peek down at the content and read the note attached before he looked up and over at his boss. "Thank you for this Victoria. The new quills will definitely come in handy with the mountain of gobstones player contracts i have to go through." The other stuff would be used too, especially the candy.

Nathaniel moved to his desk and got ready to start some work. He had been busy over the weekend traveling. He did not want to get up when his alarm had gone of and he sure didn't want to be in an office doing work. But he liked what he did. The quidditch players were great and he seriously couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with either. He was just a bit tired.... and testy... but that wasn't new at least appearance wise. Grabbing one of the stacks of paper he began setting off to do the work that he knew needed to be done for the day rather than let it sit another few days.
