Ludicrous Patents Division

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...psb23c4d7c.jpg

This large room, divided into two sections, is home for the Ludicrous Patents Division of the Department. The front part of the room when you walk in is reserved for the Patents Enforcement Offices. The cubicles of desks and chairs is reminiscent of the other offices in the department, though here you will find on the desks stacks of application forms and documents, labeled with 'Approved', 'Disapproved', or 'In Process'. Once examined by the laboratory researchers, inventions must then come through this office for approval.

Back behind the offices is located a working laboratory for the Patents Research Lab employees. Researchers are hard at work to thoroughly examine new inventions submitted by the Wizarding community. Handling with proper care and observing strict safety precautions, once employees determine inventions are acceptable for use, they pass them along to enforcement for Patent approval.

Adam Stemp is the Division Manager in this area.

Open to anyone!

Another year of work to look forward to. Joy. Javi was in an extra foul mood this morning - which was usually the norm, but today he was particularly bitter. Everything that had been happening with his parents lately, and the revelation that he had a brother, who was an AMERICAN no less, had really been messing with him. That, and his disastrous meeting with his best friend's husband that had NOT gone well at all...

It had been a rough couple of months. Cami had been acting out too. Probably feeding off his energy or something. In fact, he was getting desperate to calm her down, and was debating doing something drastic. Like adopting a dog or something for her to play with.

No, he would not let himself stoop to that level. Nope.

Instead, he tried to focus on his work. He glanced at the pile of patents that had been dropped off that morning and pulled out the first one, reading over the file. Sloppy application, the description of the spell was haphazard...yeah, no. This was getting rejected in a heartbeat.

The delivery owls have been busy, but today was the day that the patents office get the 2095 new brooms to look over, test, and determine if Victoria got the best deal for their money. These new brooms and contracts will be passed out to the teams once the division approves each and every broom.

Boxes upon boxes are waiting to be opened...

FearlessLeader19 04-06-2018 11:26 PM

Lucas was on his way to the Patents Research Lab to check out the new inventions. There was always something new and innovative for him to be attracted to. But his mind was particularly set on one thing: those new brooms that were ordered. Yes, the man was eager to take a look at those.

"Hi, everyone,'' the Quidditch Division Manager called to the room in general. Though he did a double take at Javi who seemed to be in a bad mood. "Javi? Want to help me open these boxes?'' The boxes were indicated to. Since he had some spare time from his own work, he figured he could lend a helping hand plus maybe to get Javi to talk about his mood. And so he began to open the nearest box.

The Announcer 04-09-2018 01:37 AM

As the employee opened the box he would have found all the new brooms sitting very nicely and ready to be inspected. The new line of 2095 brooms were a sharp looking bunch and they were shiny and ready to be used.

Most of them at least, if it wasn't for the box giving a nervous shake no one would have been any wiser, but soon the brooms exploded out of the box and toppled onto the floor, because two at the very bottom had come to life as the light hit the brooms and zoomed out of the box and started to fly around the room.

Lucas was very pleased to see how well and carefully stacked the brooms were in the box. He would have been rather upset if this hadn't been the case because the Department had taken their time in ensuring they put through the orders on time safely. It would have been a shame if that and the other hard work had been received in the form of splintered or cracked brooms.

"Great Scot! I had forgotten just how good looking these are.''
Lucas had seen prototypes before of this model but that had been a while back. Magazines and newspaper photos hadn't even done it justice. He reached out to pluck one from the box. The handle was smooth to his touch and he could feel the slight vibration.

The admiration for the broom was suddenly cut short when the box shook and then without warning, the remainder of the brooms shot right out of it. Lucas was so startled that he dropped the broom he had been holding. It joined the others on the floor. "What-?'' What was even more surprising was when two brooms from the bottom and began zooming around.

The Quidditch Division Manager was now speechless.

The Announcer 04-18-2018 03:00 PM

The brooms continued to zoom through the room. They looped and zig zagged coming close to the employees heads.

FearlessLeader19 04-20-2018 11:59 PM

Lucas's eyes suddenly narrowed. Aside from being seriously annoyed with the defective broom, he was now thinking of a way to stop them. "Look out! They might hit you,'' he called to the others before taking a dive to the ground as one zig zagged close and missed whacking him on the head by a hair. The man scrambled to his feet, pulling his wand from its holster as he went.

"Immobulus!'' One well-placed aim from his years as a Quidditch player as well as a couch and he sent the spell towards the one that had almost crashed into him. "Immobulus!'' Would the spell work? It better had because Lucas wanted this over with to get to having a hearty chat with the broomstick supplier and manufacturer.

The Announcer 04-25-2018 12:59 AM

Figure eights had nothing on these brooms as they moved around the room like they were racing down a quidditch pitch. One flying out the door, while the other two zoomed around the room. When the one was hit by a spell it came crashing down, but the other was still looping out of control.

FearlessLeader19 04-29-2018 02:16 PM

The brooms were so fast so of course Lucas managed to miss a few shots. Though one that was targeted did go crashing right down. He hurriedly seized it with his free hand lest it decided to go zooming off again. That's exactly when he realised that one was escaping... out of the Patents Division.

For the love of God!

"Don't let them get away!'' he hollered to the employees there. "Immobulus!'' Lucas was not quite ready to give up on that spell. "No one open any other boxes just yet. And one of you try to secure the broom that just escaped.''

The Announcer 05-07-2018 01:12 AM

The other broom that was flying around fell with a bang as it was hit by the spell. No other broom in the closed boxes or the open seemed to be moving, but the one in his hand did a little jolt before going still again.

o_______O

Javier was so overwhelmed by all of his own nonsense going on in his private life that as soon as brooms started going nuts out of that box, his only instinct was...to freeze. He felt terrible about it, leaving Lucas to deal with the chaos all by himself, but his mind was completely blanking on what to do. COMPLETELY. There was absolutely NOTHING going on.

Instead, he immediately ducked under his desk until, finally, things seemed to have calmed down. He sat up and peeked around the corner of his desk, and when it was clear that the brooms had stopped going crazy, he sat up, blushing - which never happened. "Good job mate. Sorry I...didn't help," he muttered.

FearlessLeader19 05-12-2018 03:58 PM

Thank Merlin.

It was over.

Lucas glared round at the brooms. "Well, this changes everything,'' he muttered just as the broom in his hand did a sharp movement in his hand. He at that one too. It was still now but who knew how long that would last?

"Not a problem, Javier. Maybe you can check on the one that escaped? The last thing we need is a broomstick causing chaos around the Ministry.'' Lucas moved over to the boxes once more. "I want to know why these brooms acted like they did. It could have been the manufacturer's doing or it could have been done to sabotage us.'' Given the fact that they were doing so many revamps to the structure of the Quidditch programme, not many persons were happy and that included fans and players.

For what was possibly the first time in his life, Adam was asleep at his desk.

The usual behaviour was all there - notes in hand, Quick Quotes Quill poised to write his words, coffee mug (on a coaster, of course) close to hand. But the hand holding the notes was on his chest, and his head hung backwards over the back of his chair. His mouth hung open and he snored ever so quietly.

Ocky had been up ALLL night.

And Reuben had joined in crying.

And Adam Stemp was exhaused.

Honestly, though, the fact that it was child eleven and grandchild one before he'd fallen asleep in work was impressive. Right?

Victoria had been busy at her work area, but an owl that had come in had dropped at her desk instead of heading to Adams, so the department head decided it was a good time for a break. Making her way towards the other office Vic stopped at the coffee cart. She and Adam had been friends long enough that she knew his favorites there and got him a cup along with herself.

Walking into the area she looked around confused for a moment. It seemed extra quiet. Which was off since usually, all the quidditch equipment was getting in order. Hello?"

Taking a step further she headed for the division heads desk, "Adam?" Noticing him she had a moment of panic, did something happen? Was he ill? She rushed over and tapped him gently.

"Adam? Adam? Are you alright?"

Lissy Longbottom 01-08-2019 10:00 PM

what is subtlety javi doesn't know

Javier had already had a LONG morning before he got in to the office. He'd signed his little girl up for muggle school. SCHOOL. She was going to SCHOOL. How on Earth had that happened? It felt like just yesterday that he had been in the courtroom, fighting for the custody of the barely three month old baby. Now, she was very sassily telling him that ALL of her clothes were out of fashion and she needed a whole new wardrobe to impress the muggle kids.

Time. FLIES.

As he entered the office, putting his briefcase down on his desk, he noticed that Adam had already beaten him there - and the dude was OUT. Like a LIGHT. Victoria was there as well, and she seemed to be concerned for his well-being. Javier titled his head and smirked a bit to himself. As a parent herself, he was certain she would recognize the look of parental exhaustion, but apparently not. Adam was like, SUPER parent too - eleven kids! Didn't his oldest have a baby herself? Merlin, he could not IMAGINE.

Grabbing a stack of his patent law books, he walked over to the man's desk and promptly dropped the whole stack VERY loudly next to his resting head. It was a trick he'd used in France when he'd been an assistant professor and kids had drifted off in class. Worked every time.

Harron Peasley 01-12-2019 12:20 AM

Victoria's tapping of his shoulder was met with a little grunt, and a sleep-mutter of "It's your turn, Lor.", as Adam continued to sleep. Had he known she'd brought him coffee, he'd have awoken with a start, and been super grateful - in fact, his nose wrinkled a little as the smell infiltrated his dream.

But he slept on. Until, of course, Javi's books landed on his desk. At the noise, Adam was on his feet in an instant, one hand going to his tie, the other to his hair as his eyes widened at the people stood next to him.

"How embarrassing," he said with a little smile. "My apologies, Victoria, Javi."

Hair smoothed, tie adjusted, babies not present, he fixed the arrangement of some things on his desk before looking up. "Anything I can help you with."

Bazinga 01-16-2019 07:26 PM

She was still tapping and about to call the healer. She knew Adam worked harder then anyone, even herself at times and with his kids and the Stemp house exhaustion was something she was worried about. There was a thing of exhaustion harming your health and her friend and employee might be at that moment.

Just when she was about to send word Javi came over and her eyes widened. "Well I'm not sure that was fully necessary, but thank you." She wasn't meaning to give the man a heart attack on top of whatever else was going on.

"Don't be embarrassed. I had this owl show up at my desk, but it seems he got the wrong division area. I just wanted to bring this application over to you, but now that I'm here. Are you sure you should be today? Maybe you should take the rest of the day off. I'm sure Javi could handle things with the rest of the group for the day, couldn't you Javi?"

Adam looked as if he needed a vacation.

Owls are busy in level seven, every day more and more swoop in together to bring boxes and boxes of equipment. With the first set of matches scheduled to begin in just a few weeks all these items in the boxes need to be approved and ready for play.

Lissy Longbottom 03-22-2019 10:47 PM

Sipping his coffee with a happy smile on his face, Javier Hernandez walked in to his office, just as he did every morning. His face dropped, though, when he saw that overnight, a WHOLE pile of boxes had been delivered to the division. Really? They had to deliver it all at ONCE? Not in waves?

Well, there went his good mood. Sigh.

Setting his coffee down, he went over to the boxes and started to divvy them up amongst the rest of the workers. He'd prepared for this, he just hadn't expected it to all be dropped on them at one time.

Being the Quidditch Division Head, preparations for the World Cup were a great responsibility on Lucas. There were others to help with that, thankfully, as the Department was filled with talented and reliable staff. Not wanting the equipment delivery process to take a turn for the doldrums, he was today holed up at the Patents Division.

"Hey, Javi. If you don't mind me helping...'' the man said to his co-worker, a hint of tiredness in his voice. He was wondering how on earth he had made it this far because in addition to the World Cup preparations, he and Tallie were planning their wedding. The burn out was near, he could sense it. But his focus was levitating the nearest box onto a table so he could examine the contents.

Mornings, before others got in, were the best mornings of all, especially when she had a little treat for her group. She had been doing some research over the break and had found some ideas to make the office more effective. A book she had picked up was a fun read and with a title like 101 ways to help your employees love their job more how could you go wrong. One of those ways would be to treat them with nice little surprises, so for their first day back, Victoria set a little gift bag on each of their desks.

The gift bags had little stress balls shaped as snitches and gobstones, candy, tea bags, a donut, and some new quills. As she finished putting the bags on each other their desk she made sure each had a little card attached.

Deareast Level Seven,

We will be trying out some new things this year. I want you all to know how appreciated you are and that I'm trying to make your work area the best it can be. We will be doing a few new things to help keep stress down and some fun around. With some of these please feel free to have casual Wednesday and Friday.

Have a great day!

Victoria
Having finished places all the bags on desks she stopped at the front table to go through the finihsed files to see what needed put on her desk to finalize.
