Apparition Classroom Missed the testing at Hogwarts? Were you just a SMIDGE under the age requirement to get your license when Level Six was holding in-school lessons? Never fear! You can simply take a condensed lesson here at the Ministry and before you know it, you'll have your license and be apparating around London in no time! |
**open** As Kendra made her rounds through Level Six with her coffee in hand, she stopped by the apparition classroom. As far as she knew, there wasn't anyone scheduled to come in to test for their license today, but those sorts of requests were typically slow in February. Still, she wanted to make sure everything was in order and running smoothly as she had new employees in this division of the department, including her lead. In fact, she had some new ideas for completing the requirements for licensure and what better time to do that then with some fresh apparition workers on board? But before Kendra went to speak with any of them in the division offices, she wanted to check out the equipment they currently had to see what they could use and what needed to be replaced. |
Quote:
Was she going to ask anyone for help, oh hell no, she wasn't going to look dumb even though she felt it, so instead of asking she just kept walking around until she had found a person standing in a room alone, but the minute she walked into the room Topanga wanted to walk right back out. 'Oh, Hey boss, what's going on?" Topango wasn't lost, nope, she was right where she needed to be but she just needed to find the excuse as to why she was there when she was going to need that answer as soon as boss lady asked. |
Quote:
"Oh. Topanga, hello." Kendra wasn't expecting to see someone from the floo division in the apparition classroom, but maybe she was looking for her or needed something. She gave her a small, polite smile. "Was there something I could help you with?" She trusted that she was also settling in nicely. |
Quote:
...anyway she just kept giving the smile as she looked around, "Need any help with anything while I'm here?" She figured that might be a nice way to smooth over her being lost and needing to find the office again. "Do you do other things in this room or just specifically apparition?" |
Quote:
"I see," she said in response, nodding slowly as she kept her gaze on the younger woman, considering her. "That's admirable but I assure you that your talents are quite necessary in the floo division right now." That's why she hired her for that job, after all. "But if you decide sometime in the future you'd like to broaden your horizons..." Then that was a conversation they could have later. "No, I'm just checking over the equipment.... well, actually, I suppose you could help out with that. As long as you're caught up with your own work..." She looked her over a moment then gave her a small appreciative smile. Wouldn't want to keep her from what she should be doing. "This room is just for apparition lessons and testing... unless you have an innovative idea." She was always opening to hearing about those, even if she didn't always implement them. |
Apparition class starts here! Because of the mist situation at Hogwarts, Apparition lessons were not able to be held at the school as they usually are. But for the convenience of Of Age students whose lessons were cut short and who were unable to obtain licensure, Kendra Jordan-Durand, the head of Magical Transportation, along with her Apparition employees, has extended them the offer for a condensed lesson and exam at the Ministry. If you've studied up on all the theoretical applications of the magical form of transportation known as Apparition and are ready to put the practical part to the test, then this lesson is for you! Pay the class fee of one galleon and get in line with the rest of the apparition hopefuls. Your apparition instructors will get you started shortly. OOC note: This activity is for ANY character currently aged 17 or older (by 1 Aug 2099) and who is interested in obtaining their Apparition license. You MAY RP any Of Age students or adults (including primary and secondary characters), as long as they are listed in your profile (not necessarily just your post bit). Any questions, please feel free to PM emjay. All SS rules apply! |
Apparition lessons had been one of the main things Kaiser had been looking forward to the previous school year - being a year older than his classmates and already seventeen, he had qualified for the lessons a year earlier than them - so he had been incredibly disappointed when the mist had meant they were cancelled. He needed to be able to apparate, for reasons. Getting the actual licence was less important, but if he could get it, he would. He had had quite the eventful summer so far, and Kaiser really just wanted to spend the rest of it shut away in his room back at Stemp House. He couldn't though. First of all, he had his OWLs to sit (it was a long story, okay?), and then there was visiting Gunnar, which he actually wanted to do, and now the promise of a condensed apparition lesson had successfully lured him out. The universe was conspiring to not let Kaiser angst his summer away in isolation. So, here he was, at the Ministry for the first time ever, to get this apparition thing sorted out. He reluctantly paid his galleon (how he hated to spend money) and got in line, waiting for the proceedings to begin. |
Yassi was quite thrilled for the opportunity to meet with their eager students. Well, she hoped they'd be eager. Receiving an apparition license was quite exciting business, after all. She had made her way into the classroom shortly after Kendra, as it was absolutely necessary to finish her entire mug of herbal tea before the lesson. "Kendra dearest," she smiled. "I'm very hopeful today." Hopeful that they would be handing out quite a number of new licenses. Giving her superior a warm smile in welcome, she made her way to the corner of the room in anticipation of the others who would soon join them. She gave the first boy a warm, welcoming smile. "Hello," and watched curiously as he began the queue. |
Mercy was nervous and would probably keep on being nervous until the whole thing was over. She had planned at coming to the ministry over the summer anyway to try and get her license since being at school and doing this was a no go for her. To many people watching and at school. But the mist changed everything. Sigh Looking around for Philippa as she entered for someone familiar to calm her. Well, Kaiser was here which was nice. No idea who the older women where. She had studied up on all the theoretical applications of applications since that is what Mercy Carden's do but it didn't help her nerves as she paid the galleon and got in line. Deep Breathes |
Victor had realized all to late that his licenses for the UK had...expired. Probably why he needed to write these sorts of things down, but the American-born wanderluster of a wizard also had a bit on an allergy to white-collar structure. Which was likely apparent as he arrived at the apparition classroom with his visitor badge held between his teeth and his shirt tied around his waist. His one of three button up shirts was in the backpack hanging off of his left shoulder and he had had every intention of slipping that on before coming in here, but things happened as they did. At least he wasn't late. He could at least pride himself on not being late. He wasn't technically the intended age group for this...but he WAS in a bit of a hurry and a condensed lesson with exam in the same breath was just the ticket. It was worth a shot anyway, yeah? Looking around, the 27-year-old made his way over towards the two Ministry officials and recognized the department head quite quickly. He had seen her at a glance a few times while he had been on portkey business here at the British Ministry. "Afternoon," he grinned boyishly. "Room on the roster for a slightly dated of-aged student?" |
Technically she figured she ought to have already gotten her license. Stasya had taken the lesson way back before sixth year had been over with, but yet the actual license hadn’t been achieved yet. It hadn’t helped that people were all too willing to let her side-along Apparate with them, as had happened when she’d gone on vacation with Koen earlier in the summer. Her basically-stepdad had brought her to the island, and her aunt had gone to get her when it was time to head back to Cornwall. Besides, she also had a shopping date with Chase later on, of which she was ninety-nine percent sure what that was all about. Hence her considering him her basically-stepdad, and she allowed herself a moment to wonder if Fraser knew about it as she’d gotten her visitor badge and directions to the lesson. The eighteen-year-old remembered the theoretical portion of the lesson from before, anyway. Even so, she’d been going over it in her head while she paid the galleon for the lesson and got in line behind Kaiser, Mercy and an adult she didn’t know. At least she remembered Ms. Durand from before. |
Natalie had turned seventeen a WHILE ago and had plenty of opportunity to take the test to get her apparition license, but... well, she hadn't. She liked to blame it on inconvenient testing times or the fact that she just didn't need to because everyone she hung out with could just apparate and tag her along. But the truth was, she had found herself quite inconvenienced from time to time when she was by herself with a destination in mind and no way to get there. So, there she was. Nervous. Walking into the room by herself, looking around at everyone even though she was fairly certain she wouldn't know anyone there. Her eyes landed on a few people - even did a second take on the most perfect looking man she had ever laid eyes on before (Victor). Honestly??? Did he sell his soul to look that good? Merlin. Anyway. Based on Natalie's history of performing practical magic, it wasn't unreasonable to be as scared as she was. However, she had a few steps that she learned from an instructor that did help her relax and focus, so hopefully today those steps would work in her favor. |
Apparition License. It was something Anahera had quickly realized she would need. There wasn't a whole lot she could do, nor a whole lot of places she could go to without her license. So hopefully this wouldn't take too long. She really had places to be. Places that weren't the UK. Or anywhere in Europe, to be honest. She needed to get away from here. And fast. She'd been hoping not to run into anyone she knew from school but once she'd arrived at the classroom, Anahera discovered that that had been a rather unrealistic thought. Of course people her age would be here. Everyone else already HAD their license after all. Still, she was just going to pretend she hadn't seen them. Handing over the galleon, she got in line behind Natalie. At least that was someone she didn't really know. |
With all the chaos of her final two years at Hogwarts, Daisy hadn't been able to learn how to Apparate which had disappointed her a bit. She was feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement as she paid her Galleon and got in line. She smiled as she passed those already in line. |
Philippa was uncharacteristically late. She liked to get to any of her appointments at least ten minutes ahead of time, and sometimes even twenty minutes to account for time spent searching for the correct room. So, granted, this was not a work meeting, but it was possibly even more important. No more floo powder, no more sidealong apparition. Total independence. And she was running late. The leggy brunette slid to a stop behind the door of the apparition classroom at long last, and spent exactly 35 seconds making sure she didn't look as frazzled as she felt before elegantly striding into the room, her heels clicking on the ministry floor. She quickly handed over the necessary galleon as her sharp green eyes glanced around the room. There were mostly familiar faces, though that older guy did make her brow rise a bit. He looked like a toothpaste model, she thought to herself as she loitered for a moment or two by the door, doing her best to draw some attention to herself. She looked very put together today, and she felt very strongly that everyone should take notice. Oh, there's Mercy. Time to go. Philippa quickly cut the line and stood beside her friend, not sparing the action more than a passing thought. "Mercy, hi. You okay?" she quietly murmured, noting her features were paler than usual. And they'd done OWLs this term. |
Having turned seventeen in January, the Apparition license was definitely one that Maeve Walsh needed to achieve. Especially if she wanted to go places, which included not being a beach bum as appealing that sounded. She did take note of the dormmate here, as she dropped her galleon off, the blond resumed her spot in line, giving Anahera a small smile. But that was about all the contact that was made, because for the first class in ages, the blonde was anxious to get it done. And be done with all formal training things. Adrian Quinn had turned of-age years ago. Two years ago, to be precise as he'd be turning 20 this August, but the apparition license was one of those things that slipped his mind. He'd taken all the theoretical training, of course, but having a summer birthday meant all his friends had already gone for their official license and every year that passed meant another one of 'forgetting to get his license'. Not to mention having dropped out of Hogwarts after sixth year, the apparition license was the last thing on his mind. He got distracted, you see. He was rather grateful to see he wasn't the only older guy here, and wondered if it was his first time or just a renewal? Almost made him want to break out in song and ask everyone what their story was ... but he was next. "Come along, Bo," he said quietly to an .. empty spot beside his leg, as he dropped the galleon off and joined the queue. |
"Mm, quite a good turnout," Kendra said, nodding in agreement to Yassi. And they were right on time. Kendra was always pleased with promptness. It was a good trait to have. But she waited until they all filed in before addressing the group so that she wouldn't have to do it twice. "Never too old to get your license," she added warmly to the man (Victor) just a bit older than most of the room. "Good afternoon, everyone!" she called out brightly, bringing them all to attention. "I'm Ms. Kendra Jordan-Durand, head of the Magical Transportation department here at the Ministry. And this is Ms. Yasmin Golshiri, our lead apparition instructor." Those that had already begun apparition lessons at Hogwarts before they needed to be cancelled would know that, but it was best to make sure everyone knew anyway. "Before we get started, we have some paperwork for you to fill out with your name and all of that pertinent information," she began as she handed each of those in line a clipboard with a parchment form attached. "And we'd like to have just a bit of a review. Can each of you mention something important related to the matter of apparition?" Of course they'd also have a written exam, but might as well warm up before getting right into it. |
ooc: Hope I've done things correctly Daisy neatly wrote down her details on the form that she had been given. Text Cut: Form When she had completed filling in her details, Daisy thought about Ms Jordan-Durand's question and raised her hand, rather nervously. "There needs to be complete concentration on the part of the witch or wizard that is apparating, otherwise it can lead to something known as Splinching which when part of their body or an item of clothing remains in their previous location." |
Her hair was like wildfire. The state of it would have suggested that the now-seventeen-year-old girl had ran her way through the entire Ministry to get to the Transportation department on time, but Belle's fashionably late arrival and her expression showed no sign of distress. Truth be told, her hair was always like this and she had taken her sweet time getting there. There was an aura of serenity about her as she entered the classroom and glanced at everyone with unblinking brown eyes. She did blink when a woman, whose name she didn't catch, handed over a clipboard and then started them off. The forms she was expecting, but the words that followed were surprising. She wondered if it was normal to be questioned before they even had their written exam handed to them. But, alas, she wasn't going to question the woman's methods, especially if it was she who determined who get their licence or not in the end. "I second what she said," Belle, with what dreamy and soft voice of hers, agreed with the girl who spoke up. "Happened to me once. Lost both of my eyebrows, but it turned out to be an iconic look." |
"Sorry, I know I'm late. My coach kept me longer than I was expecting and there was a problem with my transportation....." said the newest member of the Appleby Arrows with an almost smirk as she rushed into the testing room and plopped into a random empty seat. Also, no Belle, loss of eyebrows is not an iconic look, no matter what you say. More like embarrassing. Of course, she filled her form out with the required information and....then what? Were they supposed to hand the form back or....? Anyway, Archer thought on the answer to the question for a second then piped up again. "You want to be extremely familiar with where you're apparating to, so you don't pop into a wall or a locked room. Unless you were trying to pop into the locked room, then more power to ya...." A chuckle followed that last bit, of course. |
Recognising Golshiri from those few apparition lessons that had taken place at Hogwarts before the mist meant cancelling everything, Kaiser nodded politely when she greeted him. "Hello," he said back, shoving his hands into his pockets as he invariably did whenever someone spoke to him. The room soon started to fill up, and naturally Kaiser found that he recognised almost everyone. There was Mercy, Anahera, the von Brandt girl, and a girl whose name he thought might be Walsh, all of whom he was of an age with, and some others he knew he'd seen around Hogwarts over the past few years. Kaiser even recognised the slightly older man who had turned up; his picture was on the wall of staff members back at Stemp House, some kind of specialist tutor or something like that. It was weird, being around so many familiar faces after he had so recently tried to turn his back on it all, but he supposed he'd have to get used to it again sooner or later. Taking the clipboard, Kaiser decided to focus on filling in the form first and foremost, as he still had a tendency to misread things or translate them incorrectly in his head if he tried to do too many things at once while reading and writing in English. Once he was done, he looked back up and tuned into the discussion properly. There just happened to be a pause in answers at that moment, so Kaiser offered his own input. "Deliberation," he essentially mumbled. Kaiser always remembered that word now, because it had been completely unknown to him the first time he had heard it. After looking up what it meant, the word and its definition had stuck firmly in his head. |
A small smile graced Mercy's face when she saw Philippa had arrived and cut the line to stand with her. Completely on brand and expected from the Von Brandt. Fashionable Late but more just on time. "Hey, i think im more nervous for this than owls" Which might not be true come when this was over but right now it was a million percent true. More more deep breathe and they were apparently starting. Wow really just on time Philippa. Both ladies where part of the Department. Didnt explain the man over there tho. Paperwork she could do. Paperwork and tests on paper are what she is good at.Did they have to mention something because Mercy would rather stay quiet and let everyone else answer. It was easier that way and wait did someone say something about losing eyebrows???? "Destination, Determination and Deliberation" She said though not loud but well whenever has she ever been loud |
Quote:
”Concentration is extremely important,” she agreed with a nod. ”And I’d like to see no splinching today.” Though she and her team were well equipped to handle such mishaps, and here she addressed the entire group. ”Any amount of splinching will result in not receiving your license.” Quote:
”Let’s hope that doesn’t happen today, hmm? Even the loss of something as simple as an eyebrow during your exam will result in failing to get your license today.” Was everyone listening now that she said it twice? It was important that one could prove that they could flawlessly apparate if they wanted to receive a license. Quote:
Well, the first part of her answer was fairly astute, though she did not find the end particularly funny, especially if it wasn’t one’s own locked room. ”That’s right, apparition tends to be easier if you are already familiar with the location. And while it can be quite helpful to apparate into your own property should it be unduly locked, apparating where you are not permitted to be does have its own consequences.” But that’s why people had wards and protective spells. SPOILER!!: The Mumblers "Destination, determination, and deliberation are the essential points of apparition," she agreed with a nod. And she would assume that all of them there today knew what those terms meant and what they had to do with apparition. Their written exam would determine that though. ”But apparition must be done with a degree of confidence as well.” Though that could also fall under deliberation, but her point was that she didn’t want to see them fail today. And now that it seemed that everyone had filled out their forms, they were right on time to begin. ”We are going to begin with the practical portion of your lesson and exam today. You will need to apparate several times without splinching in order to receive your license.” Otherwise they’d have to come back another time or wait till lessons were being held again. ”But I will let Ms. Golshiri explain that to you.” She stepped back to allow her lead instructor take over, and she began collecting the forms from the prospective apparators. |
Yassi was very impressed with the answers that were given. She had never been good at wearing a poker face and as such, she wore a warm smile for the duration of the question and answer period. She was pleased to know that many of them held concentration in high regard. As far as iconic looks went, Yasmin had to keep herself from giggling. How endearing. Children had such imaginations. The tardy one still received a warm smile in welcome. Yassi knew Kendra would likely be disappointed and she wanted to counterbalance. Besides, you never really knew another’s circumstance. The mumbling duo, who she recognized from Hogwarts, received encouraging looks. Hopefully their lack in volume did not translate to a lack in confidence. Yassi had faith. She smiled brightly at Kendra before taking a step forward to address the group. “Yes, it is absolutely imperative that you apparate today without any sign of splinching. Otherwise we will have no choice, but to ask you to retake the exam before you can receive your license.” In other words, if they so much as lost an eyebrow, they would fail. But that didn’t sound very pleasant to say out loud, so she implied it instead. “For the practical portion of your exam, you will have to successfully apparate to three distinct locations,” she wore an encouraging, warm smile as she explained. Gesturing fluidly to the opposite end of the room, she continued, “first from one end of the classroom to the center of one of the hoops at the end of the room. Second, you will need to apparate to another floor of the ministry where you will have to receive a sign-off on your form from a ministry employee on that level.” The forms they had been filling out had a spot for a signature at the bottom, they did notice this… Yes? That’s where the respective Department Head’s would sign to ensure that they apparated successfully sans-splinching. “You can choose to apparate to the Level One Lobby and Reception, the Pets 'n Plants Café on Level Four, the Level Five Lobby, or the Fitness Room on Level Seven.” She paused for a moment to ensure that they were following. “Finally, you will apparate to the Atrium where one of my colleagues will meet you,” she smiled taking a moment to look around the room, incase there were any confused faces. “When you are ready, you may begin. Remember, you will need to take hold of your wand, turn on the spot, and concentrate on your destination. Destination, determination, and deliberation. Best of luck.” OOC: You may complete the following tasks to whatever degree of success is appropriate for your character. 1. Apparate into the center of the hoop at the end of the room. |
