Default Courtyard and Brick Wall

The Leaky Cauldron sits auspiciously as part of the Muggle World, the portal to Diagon Alley. Stepping out the back door of the Leaky Cauldron, it leads to the open patio that is deceivingly large. Once inside the Courtyard the stone path circles around the green area, which is a popular place for young children to relax upon during summer holidays and is also a popular place for, people to lie out and have lunch.

On the green, a tall stone fountain sits and waits for a lucky sickle or two to find its way to the bottom of the fountain. However, the incredible thing about the fountain is the stone is rests upon. The stone floor underneath and surrounding the fountain is charmed to light up with each step a person makes on the stone floor. The color traces the outside of the traveler’s foot and each new step is a fresh new color.

Out on the green surrounding the fountain is the home to a garden of flowers that are freshly planted. Each little patch of flowers is also charmed by the former owner, Harley, to smell of a different kind of treat at the Leaky Cauldron, i.e.. Butterbeer Flowers.

Off to the side of the Courtyard, a winding stone pathway leads to a quaint little pond filled with a hundred carp fish that Ryoma, the old owner, had specially imported from Japan. This little pond is tucked in the back of the Courtyard and serves as a little treat to all who happen upon it. Next to the pond is a simple wooden box with a money hole in the top. Dispense ten sickles and the box produces fish food to feed the carp.

Louisa asks that everyone, including little witches and wizards, pick up after himself or herself.

Ironically, she thought of a very specific someone she didn't get along with just as Mordred made his Slytherin comment. How could she not like a Slytherin? "When said Slytherin is nasty about your blood status..." Sophie replied looking up at him and shrugging. She couldn't help but think how much worse she would've gotten had she been a Muggleborn. Merlin, some people... But she realised that had been a bit gloomy, so she smiled again. "But I like all the right Slytherins." Grin.

Mordred didn't believe he was a good dad. His comment honestly didn't surprise Sophie as she knew him too well by now, but she couldn't help but feel bad. "Don't be silly now. He's just at a funny age." And he wasn't even a teenager yet. Sophie wasn't going to bring that up, though. They would deal with tomorrow's problems when tomorrow arrived. The brunette watched as her husband obviously dove deep into thoughts and stayed quiet for a bit too, just watching him. "Okay, that's enough of that for now." She said half jokingly, but she also meant it as she nudged his side. Too much overthinking could send him to places in his mind that she didn't want him to go.

She chuckled as he explained what his Hogwarts expectations had been. As he voiced his mother's comment, she widened her eyes for a brief second, thinking that was maybe a little too much of a heavy burden to place on a child. On her lovely husband when he was a child. What if he hadn't been sorted into Slytherin? Sophie was sure that would've made him feel terrible. She made a mental note to not make any kinds of comments towards her own children, just in case. She'd be absolutely happy with whatever house they were sorted into anyway! Sophie chuckled softly again as he finished his comments on his mother and rubbed his arm. His mother was rarely wrong, hm? Another burden Sophie herself wouldn't want to carry. "Our families are so different." She chuckled.

Her husband's next words caught her completely off guard. She had been watching the slowness of everything around the fountain and was feeling quite at peace with the world only to be given what felt like very shocking news. "That was... very sudden." Her eyes were wide again as she blinked multiple times, still trying to make sense of it all. Move houses - and not only that, move to the other side of the country! -, change the kids' schooling - which wasn't just sending them to another school per se, but moving them from a Muggle system into a Magical one - AND actually getting an extra pet??

W h a t.

She wasn't even sure where to start. "I-- Uh..." Blink. She studied him for a moment before speaking up again. "This is not because you think you're lacking as a dad... is it?" Because if it was she would have a loootttttt to try and get into his lovely mind. Sophie herself loved changes, but she knew her husband. He wasn't like her. At all. Much.

Wherever had this come from?? And she wasn't getting rid of the alpacas, nope.
Sophie did get along with all sorts of people back in Hogwarts, regardless of their house, blood status, social status, and what have you. She was remarkable like that, and Mordred couldn't be more proud of who she is. For all he knew, Mordred was easily classified as the snob one, but that did not deter Sophie from reaching out, and basically show him that it wasn't so bad to have friends, or to socialise a bit with people he wasn't familiar with. Truth be told, he was and still is condescending considering his upbringing and the environment that had shaped him to become who he was. But he could easily brush it off with the reason for wanting the best of the best for himself, and his family. "You got the best of both worlds. You know what it's like to live the life of a witch and a muggle." he said thoughtfully while rubbing his wife's arm. "Thank you for choosing me, though..." Was he one of the right Slytherins? Well, it was a given. However, he knew he was far from being the perfect one.

Mordred was lost, to be honest. He didn't know what went through Noah's mind. If he could read Catherine, almost instantly, it was the opposite for Noah. He's their firstborn son, and he expected himself to understand him completely. He really was lacking. The twins are exactly a year away from attending Hogwarts, and Mordred found himself wanting to slow down the time. But how? He has been on-call at work almost every day, given the unusual sightings of Creatures in the muggle world, and spending time with their twins was almost always impossible. In fact, he's been to work that morning, only to ask to call the rest of his afternoon off to be with his family. But for obvious reasons, he cannot afford to do small time-offs all the time. The dragonologist had a frown on his face until he felt the nudge on his rib, breaking his thoughts.

He then kept his mouth shut as soon as Sophie found her words. He knew it was going to be a shock, and he was expecting the reaction. There goes their romantic date. Mordred bit his lower lip as he eyed another family make their way into Diagon Alley, while his thoughts drifted back to the moment wherein he decided to have this talk with his wife.

Was the reason because he felt he was lacking? Perhaps it was more than that. Mordred shook his head and shifted in his seat. "Noah and Catherine have obviously made friends in school. When the time comes for them to attend Hogwarts, I am sure they will be bombarded with questions as to why they don't see them there anymore. I thought, perhaps, moving to a different city with a good population of wizarding folks around would be easier for them and Scarlett and Enzo. At least the twins will have a real excuse for their friends." Mordred tilted his head as he pressed on. "And I am worried for Scarlett, to be honest. Anytime soon, her magic will manifest. She exhibits the least control among our children, and I am genuinely concerned for her, and her peers." Not to mention, the Statute. "At least in a wizarding primary school, they could teach her how to control it early on. The same goes for Enzo." Mordred sighed, and again shook his head. "I am basing it on observations of course...and they are a completely different case from the twins. Noah and Catherine know how to act accordingly...but I don't know about Scar and Enzo." Mordred did not dare admit that they needed help from professionals regarding two of their youngest offsprings but thought it was necessary AND important for EVERYONE'S sanity. "But of course, like in any big decisions concerning the family, I need your opinion on this matter."

Sophie gave him a half smile. "I know, and I love it. But try telling that to blood purists." She shook her head, but then her smile widened to a full one when she thought how lucky she was to have married a pureblood Slytherin who didn't think like the others. Not lucky because of his blood purity, of course, but because she got to marry HIM despite blood status and whatever it was some people might think. She couldn't help but chuckle at his other remark. "You're welcome!" She grinned before giving him a quick kiss. "Thank you for choosing me. You could've chosen... you know... someone else." AND she didn't even mean just Chloe *spits on floor*. Mhm, and she meant it BECAUSE she knew at one point he was quite the popular guy at Hogwarts. She KNEW probably because of how much she spoke about him in a way everybody started seeing just how wonderful he was. She should learn from that, really. But now he was hers for good so it was okay and people could want him all they wanted, it didn't matter anymore anyway, hehehehehehe.

That was right, no overthinking much for you, mister!

Sophie couldn't help but chuckle again at his logic. So adorable and such a pureblood way of thinking. She smiled warmly and stroked his hair as he spoke because adorable husband was adorable. Look at him being an adorable, clueless pureblood wizard. She grinned, amused, and continued to listen to his argument. "I think they would be fine with their friends, love. That doesn't mean I'm essentially against moving." So there was no need for him to think of more reasons for now. At his thoughts about Scarlett, Sophie had to bite her lower lip. It was probably because he spent so much time working that he wasn't fully aware of their daughter's abilities yet, poor hubby. Sophie wondered if she should tell him he wasn't exactly right on that point, but maybe that would make him feel even worse as a dad and she most definitely did not want that. She had to say something, though. "Actually... she's the one with the most magical control out of all our kids, love." There, it was out. Oh dear. She gave his hand a gentle squeeze and gave him an apologetic look. DON'T FEEL BAD, PLEASE, HANDSOME HUSBAND! Sophie braced herself anyway.

But okay, he wanted her input and opinion. "Um..." She started, looking back to the fountain to ponder things a bit. That was a lot to take in all of a sudden, he'd have to bear with her. How to tell him she didn't think those reasons were really detrimental - and even if they were, they could always sort things out where they were -, but she wasn't totally against the idea of moving. It was just that she didn't think those were... 'good enough' reasons. "Is this what you want?" She asked, turning again to look into his eyes. That would be a much more plausible reason in her mind and she'd be more than happy to consider things from that perspective.

A lot more than to think it was because their children needed professional help(???????)!?

Having innocently wandered off from their herd as they migrated to find another forest suitable for dwelling, the humble group of adolescent centuars somehow managed to find themselves at the threshold of wizarding London. Arelis, Zerano, and Midoos gleefully pranced atop the color changing bricks beneath their hooves. A younger generation, they had grown up far more open minded to such wizarding tricks.

"You can understand why Thereos saved those two-legged ones," Zerano sang as he bound from a blue colored stone and turned it sunset orange upon landing. "If they can capture the colors of the sky in stone like this."

"And flowers!" chimed in Arelis while her wild braids smacked against her strong shoulders as she worked a patch of stone herself. Hers turning from vivid purples to brilliant yellows that reminded her of the daffodils she would collect on the Hogwarts grounds. She yearned for home and this running away from nothing into more nothing was beginning to wear on the entire herd. She just wanted to go home to the Forbidden Forest. But she also felt that Zerano had been right. That they DID need a fun distraction and this was it!

Midoos, however, was not as celebratory about their misadventure. "W-We should get back to the herd," he stammered while rubbing his impressive forearms. "Piritrius told us not to wander off again after the last time..."

Both Zerano and Arelis gave their friend a scrutinizing glare.

"....I'm only saying...this isn't where we belong..." he reiterated for what felt like the hundredth time since this morning.

Maxie was in the middle of his whistling rendition of the muggle classic Whistle by Flo Rider - a very clever pun on Florida, really, he constantly appreciated it - when he stumbled across this... very unusual scene.

He had errands to run for his boss, a Knockturn Alley establishment to visit, and he had really wanted to get a quote on a tattoo from Paradise, but there were centaurs at the brick wall. CENTAURS!

"Hello!" Maxie greeted them, delighted by this day. How often does one see a centaur?? And here, there were three of them! In all his twenty two years on this planet, he had seen a great many strange things but never three centaurs at the leaky cauldron.

That sounded like the beginning of a terrible joke, but this was real life. "Are you trying to get into Diagon Alley?" Very strange, surely, for centaurs to want to go shopping, but maybe this was a new wave of centaurs. Maybe they'd get tattoos with him, wouldn't that be neat?!

It was Midoos who reacted first. And the most dramatically.

His already straight posture went rigid and his hind legs gave an impulsive kick before his broad, slightly hunched, shoulders veered sideways so his dark eyes could fall on the newcomer.

"........what is a Diagon Alley?" he questioned.

Zerano and Arelis ceased their frolicking, the stones beneath their hooves settling on a warm fushia and lucious green respectively. Arelis began to play with her braids anxiously. Her first human. Her first proper human.

Zerano, feeling entitled as the nephew to Piritrius, bolding stepped forward and put his study dark bay flank between this human and Arelis. "State your name and intention, two-legged one."

Lou had heard some people go through to the courtyard, but as her hands were full with a hot oven dish full of lemon and poppyseed muffins she was unable to greet the customers. Once putting the dish down, however, she heard some voices trickling through from outside.

"Oh my," she said, stopping with a hand against her heart. Centaurs. Three of them. And a customer. Who seemed to have their reaction pointed towards.

"Hello there. My name is Louisa Pepperwood and this is The Leaky Cauldron." Which she owned. So, her business was literally right where the Centaurs were. "Diagon Alley is our wizarding shopping area, and that brick wall there is the entrance into it." It seemed clear they weren't intending to go to Diagon Alley if they didn't know what it was. "Is there anything I can do to assist you?"

What is a Diagon Alley!! Visions of being a centaur tour guide filled Maxie's mind and he was just about to launch into a vivid explanation of the sights and smells and sounds of the famous British alley, when he was stopped by another centaur, asking about him.

Maxie took a moment to properly survey the four-legged crowd. He noted the pretty colours they left on the brick wall, and he also noted that they all had very different personalities. One, the first one, seemed... untrusting. The one with the braids, he liked her. The braiding reminded him of his sister. And, the third one, the third one didn't seem to like him at all.

"Max-" Oh, wait. The leaky owner was here. He knew her, somewhat, since he always liked to grab lunch here when running his work errands. "And I'm Maximilian, but usually people call me Maxie," he said his first name with a stronger French accent, and quickly returned to the London way of speaking he'd carefully learned. "My intention is to help you, sir! Would you like to hear some music? Or something to eat? Or, perhaps, explore the alley with me?" Maxie, at centaur service!

While Midoos was cautiously curious and Arelis awestruck and blushing (the two-legged male was rather handsome), something within Zerano snapped as he and his centaur kin were offered sanctuary by the pair before him.

"The stars spit upon your ancestors!" he barked suddenly, strong hooves stomping against the stone hard enough that it was a wonder they had not caused sparks. "Help us? Your kind can do nothing to help us! Not even in your most fanciful sagedreams can you assist us!"

His dark eyes shot around the area and recalled the door through the building that lead here.

Eyes wild, Zerano shot his friends a commanding look before taking off at a canter towards the door and spun around to kick it open with his hind quarters. Kicking the door square off its hinges, Zerano disappeared within the Leaky Cauldron proper.

The blood drained from Lou's face as a feeling of imminent thread came upon them. She looked over to Maxie, her mouth open in shock. "I... what in Merlin's Beard?" What were they even supposed to do? "We uh... I don't think we should go in there," she said. Unless Maxie was somehow gifted in deescalation? From the courtyard she could hear the shattering of glasses, and the thuds of tables being knocked over. The owner was terrified. Approaching the angry centaurs would be a death wish, surely? "Are they from the Hogwarts Forest?" she asked Maxie.

Maxie's smile didn't slip, not even once, as the centaur seemed to have a bit of a temper tantrum. That's all right, they all had them from time to time. Perhaps these centaurs were teenagers? Maxie considered this point for a moment as he watched the one who had requested the stars to spit on his ancestors gallop inside to start breaking stuff. That was quite the temper tantrum! The twenty two year old made sure to steer clear of his path.

As a side note, Maxie thought being spat on by stars would be quite an enjoyable process. Star spit! Maybe it had magical properties.

Looking decidedly unaffected by the whole thing, Maxie shook his head apologetically at the Leaky owner. "I'm afraid I don't know Miss Pepperwood," he said with a raise of his shoulders. "I spent all my seven years at Beauxbatons." Maxie passed the question on to the two remaining centaurs, also somewhat apologetic.

"Your friend doesn't seem to like us very much," he started, posing the comment to the braided female centaur. "Are you from Hogwarts? Is it uninhabitable for centaurs too?" Naturally, Maxie had read the Daily Prophet article, and the various interpretations of it across a variety of newspapers. The situation must be more dire than international press gave it credit for.

Midoos was doing his best not to tremble like a flutterby bush as he watched his friend storm off like that and noticeably winced whenever he heard a crash or shattering sound. He was no more trusting of these two-legged ones than Zerano was, but even he knew better than to ransack one of their peculiar looking buildings.

He also did not take well to the one two-legged one with the red mane speak to the other as though he and Arelis were invisible to them. But before he could snort that all she had to do was ask them, the male of the pair was doing just that.

And Arelis squeaking to intercept for an answer. A bit too eagerly if he were to judge.

"W-W-We are!" she nodded as her large auburn eyes drifted to the door knocked off its hinges and in pieces just over there. "We fled months ago...when a horrifying mist overtook our home and force all that dwell in the forest to flee with their lives. We've been seeking sanctuary ever since...and..." She paused to worry her lower lip while folding her arms across her chest. "...and the journey has taken it's toll on all." She glanced at Midoos almost apologetically before taking a few timid paces towards this two-legged one. "I am known as Arelis. Daughter of Cosmophon and Phaedrothoe."

Both centaurs reared back on their hind legs in surprise for a moment as a chair went right through one of the windows, shattering glass and landing in a broken pile just a few hooves away from the pond.

"We can't let him carry on like that!" Midoos hissed in a panic. "You know they'll extinguish his light if we don't stop him."

It made some sense, now, why the Centaurs weren't in their home. It was covered in fog. Lou's fingertips made their way over her mouth as she heard their story. How terrible, to lose their home and be trying to find sanctuary since it all happened. "Where have you been... l-living?" Had it been living, if they had been trying to find sanctuary since? Did that mean there was nowhere safe for them?

Seeing the chair fly through a window, leaving a falling of shattering class made her yelp from surprise.

She was somewhat relieved to hear them say 'We can't let him carry on like that!', but she wasn't necessarily feeling too enthusiastic about agreeing with them. Not if it were going to make them even angrier. "What can we do?" she asked. It was, after all, her home and business that was being destroyed, but extinguish his light sounded very final, and even though he was destroying things, Lou didn't wish that on him. Whatever it meant. It briefly crossed her mind to send word to the Ministry somehow - patronus? Summoning her owl? No, she didn't want her pet to be harmed. But some tactic was needed here. Sending for the Ministry would potentially enrage them further, which she most definitely did not want.

Fletcher was still nervous taking his kid out all by himself sometimes. The boy was just young, and innocent, and seemed so little. What if there were dark wizards out here in Diagon Alley in the daytime? What if there were muggers like him in his past life or thugs or scammers also like he'd been once upon a time ago?! What if there were GERMS?! He didn't even know if the boy had allergies yet!

He also didn't know where this paranoia and protectiveness came from, except that his first child had grown up good and well and this second one seemed so much harder. Maybe it was because he was older and wiser to the dangers of the world now, or maybe it was because his kid was just so darned cute... just a chip off the old block... but either way, Fletcher was holding his hand VERY tightly so that he didn't run off the minute they stepped into Diagon Alley.

"Here we go, kid," he announced to his son as they passed through the magic barrier. "Welcome to Diagon Alley." Now that you are old enough to remember it, heh.

Duncan was not aware of his dad's thoughts. He kept trying to free his hand from the steel grip Fletcher had on him, but not too hard. He did not know where to go after all. Now that they were walking towards 'the gate', Duncan closed his eyes. Just like when his parents had a gift for him, this was kinda like a gift too. He almost held his breath too he totally did but he was not an idiot, ahem. He was 1000000% convinced DA was a great fun place, everyone went there the last month of summer, students and stuff. He will be a student soon TOO, sooooo... here they were.

BEAMBEAM.

Duncan opened his greenish eyes at his father's welcome, "Thanks!" He tried his best to see the first special thing about DA, probably people's outfits? He did see his mother wear weirder stuff on stage, but people here did not seem to be aware they were wearing weird things. Cloaks, he noted in his head, meaning the wizardry piece of clothing. "Dad, look!" THE FOUNTAIN CHANGED COLOR WITH EVERY STEP HE TOOK. He started taking steps in slo-mo, his eyes hung on the fountain up ahead as it changed colors indeed. His parents did do spells in front of him, but they were not allowed to have magical equipment at home. So seeing something magical so freely in public was amazing. Duncan wondered if he could jump on the cobblestone and if each color was connected to one cobblestone or if it was a random, generalized pattern of color.

TUG TUG on his father's hand, leggggoooooo.

LOOK, WHERE? Fletcher almost spun around to attack whatever Dunk was wanting him to look at. Reflexes, ya know. He still had 'em. But what they were looking at... was just an ordinary old fountain, to Fletcher. Sure, he had memories of this thing, but to a kid, this was like a whole new world. Fletcher had forgotten that it even changed colors.

He chuckled and tried to relax a little. "Yeah, all right," he murmured, letting go of his son's hand so he could check out the fountain. But only if he WALKED and did not RUN and SPLIT HIS HEAD OPEN. "Take it easy, now. I don't want you falling in."

Merlin, did he sound like his own dad or what? Thank goodness Jessa was not here. She'd probably be laughing at him. Meanwhile, Fletcher might mosey over to look at some of the flowers... come to think of it, she might like it if he took some home...

As soon as dad let go of his hand, Duncan was jumping on the cobblestone, legs moving as if independent from his body to try and hit the floor quickly and perhaps the fountain would do something else?? BOING BOING BOING, he kept moving up towards the fountain, totally forgotten about his dad behind me for the moment. The fountain just kept changing color shades, granted it was so beautiful but nothing extraordinary happened.

Aw. Duncan pushed his hair away from his face and forehead. He climbed on the ledge, grinning at the water splashing him a little. "Dad, look!" Again. Now, though, Duncan meant his father should see him run around the fountain SO FAST without falling. He was doing it! His arms shot out on his sides for balance, and his rather long hair was already wet with the fountain water, but he was proud he got this right. Duncan decided to take it up a notch and maybe try to CLIMB the fountain to the top where the water came out??

Fletcher was trusting that his boy was smart and strong and not at all spindly-legged, but he did know that his son had a lot of energy. So he had one eye on him all the while and the other on these flowers he was just leaning down to look at and sniff. They did smell quite nice... was that one butterbeer, and the other one firewhiskey, or was he just imagining his favorite flavors coming to life...?

OF COURSE the second he took his eyes off the fountain and onto the flowers, Lil Dunk would start RACING around the fountain. The boy ratted on himself though by demanding he look at his buffoonery. "THAT'S ENOUGH," Fletcher boomed, straightening up as he spied his son starting to climb the actual fountain. He didn't give his son a chance to climb down, either, and flicked his wand at him so he levitated off the fountain and down to the ground beside Fletcher, who encased his hand in an iron fist once again.

Ahem. Kid was a little wet, huh? Fletcher pointed his wand at him, this time aiming the drying spell on his son's mop of hair. He chuckled as it blew his bangs up and out of order. Teh heh. This was funny, and Fletcher wasn't going to get mad at his son for having a bit of excess energy. That's just how kids were.

"Let's go check out another shop in the Alley, huh Dunk?" That's right, there were other sections that did not involve climbing. Maybe Dunk would like the owl emporium or post office. Fletcher did have some post to send.
