He was the exact opposite of the type of people she associated herself with - but too late now, he was already sitting here.

"I prefer to think of it as quiet observation," she told him, looking back at the Indian team before taking a sip of her drink. "Spying would imply that I am looking to gain information to use against them. I don't play like that. I plan to beat them by pure skill, should they make it to the finals against us," she explained to her teammate with a slight smirk.

Renee breezed into the Leaky Cauldron, throwing her long brunette hair over her shoulder and gazing around. She had just wanted a butterbeer, a simple treat on a nice day like this -- normally not an indulgence she would allow herself, but she'd practiced all morning, after all. She hadn't been expecting it to be so crowded, and with the players of a rival Quidditch team, nonetheless. But no matter. So what if it was a bit loud? That's what pubs were meant to be like, right? She couldn't say that she particularly minded it, anyway, although it did make it a bit hard to navigate.

It also made it possible to find out a little more about her competition. Although truthfully, all that she was finding out was that the men were pretty handsome... She was tempted to flirt a bit -- after all, fierce competition didn't have to equate to unfriendly competition, did it? But her teammates may not be happy with her if they found out she'd fraternized with the enemy, so to speak. Besides, the media, especially that rag The Daily Prophet, loved to paint her as something of a man-eater, which she resented. It was so far from the truth, and she hated that people thought it about her. Plus, it really limited her actual romantic options when she couldn't be seen in public with any man without a new rumor starting. So... Better not to play into that stereotype. Instead, she settled on admiring from afar. Sigh.

She ordered her butterbeer and took a sip, searching the room for a place to sit, but not finding one before her eyes alighted on two of her England teammates, Leontius and Nyx. Hmm. Had they seen her? If it was just Leontius over there, Renee wouldn't have hesitated -- though he did seem a bit full of himself, she could admit inwardly to having a bit of a schoolgirl crush on him (not that she would EVER let him know that) -- but Nyx... Well, she could be a bit intimidating. Or maybe no-nonsense was a better word. Focused. Renee respected that, but she was never totally sure how the Seeker felt about her, and she didn't know what her reception would be if she joined them.

But even if Leontius and Nyx hadn't spotted her, others had. She heard someone stage-whisper her name and turned her head instinctively to see a teenage girl pointing at her subtly and saying something to her friend. (That was the part of professional Quidditch that Renee couldn't quite get used to.) She gave the girls a small wave and smile before turning her attention back to the seating problem. Well... It would look bad if her young fans saw her snub her teammates. Guess it was time to head their way.

She weaved her way across the pub until she reached the table they were seated at. "Hi, you two. Mind if I join you?" She didn't wait for an answer before sliding into a seat. "Didn't realize it would be so crowded." She gestured toward the Indian team with a nod.

All of the Indian Team!

As usual, ladies first.

Taking up the line behind coach, Mayur gave the woman handing out the room keys a charming smile. "Mayur Anand." It seemed unneeded to state that he was here with Coach and the team. Right? Eh. Sure, she seemed like a smart woman. She'd figure it out. He gave her another smile to be nice.

He grinned at his teammates, hearing that their captain was already up in his room. Sounded like Raju. He also noted coach asking for help with her bags, and if the Leaky Cauldron What kind of name was that??? couldn't spare someone, he would make sure to help her himself.

Though, while he waited he gave his fellow Beater a grin. "I found a gym nearby - do you know if Coach had one in mind? Think we could go try it out in the morning?"

Had Leontius known that his teammate felt such a way about him, he would have been shocked. The sociable blonde was happily oblivious, though. His mum always said he was terrible at judging people. Leon disagreed - at least when it came to being on the Pitch. During the game, he could judge a person better than most people. Judge his teammates. Judge the opposition. Judge the next throw, tackle, try.

A shrug. A sip of his coffee. "Some would say gaining information is a skill," he murmured. The ability to gain information about their play, from just observation. He missed Nyx's smirk, eyes focused on the potential opponents. But he was very glad to hear she was just as sure, just as ambitious as he was about the final.

Leontius almost missed Renee, but her joining them was welcome. To him, if not Higgs. "Not at all," he mused. She had already say down when he spoke, and he smiled jovially at her. Eyes flicked back to the Indian team. He shrugged. "They have to stay somewhere. I do wonder if any other team is lodging here." He was tempted to wave at the potential opposition, but a sidelong glance at Nyx stopped him. She was fierce. He didn't fancy aggravation during practice.

The India National team had made their presence known at the Leaky with their simultaneous arrival. Lucy beamed with pride that her establishment would be hosting the team and they all seemed quite polite and well mannered.

"It looks like you are all set up and your rooms are ready. Best of luck to you all in the upcoming games. Please let me know if there anything I can do for you or send out to get for you during your stay." There was bound to be a few items at least one of the players would need while they were there and she had a great relationship with most of the other shopkeepers in Diagon Alley. Lucy could easily call upon one of the many to send over any item needed.

Nyx Higgs 04-06-2019 03:38 PM

Leon and Renee

Nyx actually smiled and chuckled a bit at Leon's remark she wasn't TOTALLY made of stone, ok?. "Then I'm quite skilled at it, if I do say so myself," she joked with him. Honestly though, observation was one of her specialities. You had to have a good eye in order to spot a small golden snitch zipping across the Quidditch field. It certainly was a handy skill to have, and applicable to many situations.

This pub was becoming dreadfully crowded, and as soon as she thought this, Renee came over to the table and made herself right at home. Nyx had been naive to think she was going to have a nice quiet drink all to herself. She should have known this would happen. Socializing wasn't exactly a CHORE for her...but it was something she avoided, if she could.

"I believe they're lodging here," she informed her as Renee started to wonder aloud about where they were staying. She ignored her request to sit - since she was already doing that. "If not - they seem to really enjoy the pub aspect of it, at least," she said with a small shrug as she took a sip of her butterbeer.

Sure enough, as soon as she said that, the innkeeper approached the team and loudly announced that their rooms were ready. Nyx raised at eyebrow at Renee as the detail was confirmed before taking another sip of her drink. Whenever she didn't know what to say - taking a drink was a good distraction.

Lucy hoped he would like his room down the quiet end of the hall. It had a lovely view of the courtyard and the window opened nice and wide to let in the summer breeze.

His hesitation over the luggage went unnoticed. "As you wish. Please do be careful on the stairs and let me know if you would like supper brought up to you later on. The full menu is served to the guest rooms, although you are more than welcome to dine down here. The table by the fireplace is nice and cozy." It was one of her favorite places to sit. It had a great view of both the front and back doors as well as being able to see the very bottom of the guest room stairs. It allowed her to keep watch over the entire floor from one cozy spot.

She tapped his paperwork on the counter then placed it in the file. "You are all set. I do so hope you enjoy your stay, Mr. Zaman."

Hazel eyes matched as the woman took the coins he had surrendered and placed them in the register. Now that did pique his interest. For a split second he had started daydreaming, considering which was safer: him doing the job himself or the sly devils in his pack.

A hand gripped tighter onto one of the straps and the other onto the key that he had just been handed. Malik was beginning to turn away toward the stairs when the landlady mentioned something about meals being brought up to his room. "Uhh, no need, ma'am," he said, flashing a smile just to avoid looking like he was up to something. "Will likely catch a bite down here once I'm settled in."

He did need to mingle and scout around. More importantly, however, was that he didn't want to have to explain why he had a littler of rodent-like creatures roaming about his room should someone happen to walk in out of the blue.

"See you around," he added as a quick afterthought before darting up the stairs to Room 2-2.

Renee Golzio 04-09-2019 07:53 AM

Leon and Nyx :)

"Hmm," Renee took a sip of her butterbeer, agreeing with Nyx's assessment -- the Indian team did seem to like the pub. They were very social. As to whether any other teams were staying there? "Good question. I'd be interested to know that, too. Give us a chance to check out the competition. But even besides that, it's kind of fun to have them here. I mean, crowded, definitely, but the whole atmosphere is kind of... Jovial, isn't it? Lively. Brings some excitement around."

She smiled at her teammates before turning her head to glance into the crowd of attractive men rival players. She absentmindedly wound a strand of long, brown hair around her index finger as she sized them up. (Competitively or romantically? Could go either way.)

"So," she said, turning her attention back to Leontius and Nyx abruptly, "I'm feeling pretty confident about these upcoming matches. I think we really have a good shot of making it all the way. It really seems like our team just kind of... fits together. There's a flow. Lately I've come away from our practices feeling like we could conquer the world. What do you both think?" As she placed the emphasis on the word "fits," Renee peeked at Leon from under her eyelashes. She wasn't trying to flirt with him, not really. Sometimes she just couldn't help it. It came naturally. (And as much as she denied the things that the Daily Prophet printed about her serial-romancing... Well... Objectively, it wasn't all a pile of lies.) Anyway, it wasn't like she had feelings for him or anything. She just thought he was cute. So sue her. She thought pretty much all of her male teammates were attractive. Come on, they were professional athletes, for Merlin's sake. But okay, he did make her a little giggly, and she did have a soft spot for blondes, not gonna lie.

She quickly pulled her gaze away from him before it became obvious she'd been looking, instead bringing her eyes over to Nyx. She studied the Seeker's face quickly, trying to decipher what she was thinking. Renee didn't want to stare, but even if she had done, Nyx was hard to read. Every now and then, Renee caught a glimpse of some humor in her eyes, but it was just a flicker occasionally. Or maybe Renee was just getting a bad read on her. Whatever the case, she was a mystery -- and a darn good Quidditch player, no matter what else.

Leontius McKay 04-12-2019 07:07 PM

Higgs and Golzio

"I daresay you are gifted," Leontius agreed merrily with Nyx, before he paused to raise his coffee cup towards her and her skill. She was their Seeker. Observation was of the utmost importance in her role. Without it, he could score as many goals as he wanted, but that extra 150 points the Snitch brought remained elusive.

An amused grin crossed Leon's face. Renee's observation that the atmosphere was jovial was something he agreed with, although he wasn't sure that Nyx did. "It definitely makes me feel more competitive." And indeed, the blue eyes wandered to see who was causing more of a stir with the general public. His face remained amused as he watch Renee wind her hair up. It reminded him of the actions of a love-struck teenager. "Which one do you have your eye on, then?" He could tease.

He sipped his coffee as Renee turned the talk to their own team. A sidelong glance occurred in Nyx's direction. He wanted to see how she felt. As such, he missed the playful glance of Renee, but it was a question as to whether he would have noticed either way. One could never quite tell whether Leon was aware of peoples opinions of him. Indeed, a lot of the time he was unsure whether his observations were correct himself. "There's a lot of talent on the pitch," he agreed after a moment. "We work well together."

His paperwork was in her hand, headed towards the file, as she watched him head off. "Sounds like a plan. If I'm not at the counter to take your order, be sure to let them know your room number so we can give you a discount."

She watched him only for a moment as he walked off towards the stairs. Soon, the next customer approached the counter and she was focused on their transaction.

Nyx Higgs 04-14-2019 01:05 AM

Leon and Renee

Nyx smiled politely at her teammate when he complimented her skills. "Thank you, Leon, although without you guys manning the rest of the pitch, I wouldn't be nearly as successful," she added. It was true. They earned points to give her a bit of extra padding, as it were. Also, they made sure Quaffles and Bludgers didn't hit her as she searched for the snitch. That was probably their most important job!

Her frown immediately vanished though as Renee started doing all that hair flipping. Oh for the love of MERLIN. This is why she hardly hung out with other people. Romance had no allure to her - because people tended to act like crazy people. Case in point. Was Leon really that oblivious to this obvious flirting? If she weren't worried about this interfering with the cup, she might just flat out tell him that Renee was trying to get his attention.

"I do agree, we are on a hot streak and I'm excited to see where it goes," she added, bringing things back to the conversation of Quidditch once again. Her eyes looked over at the Indian team again, wondering what they were doing to be so successful. She had a gut feeling in her heart that they were going to be the ones to beat...

Aurora!

Torii had been looking forward to a butterbeer literally all day, and she was determined to get one now. She'd passed by the Leaky Cauldron around lunchtime, but the place had looked so packed that she didn't dare walk inside. She didn't need a butterbeer that badly. However, now she really did want one, and busy or not, she was getting one now.

She approached the service counter and waited her turn in line. She pushed her hand into her pocket and felt for her money. It was all still there as far as she could tell. She looked over the shoulder of a super tall man right in front of her. Only two people ahead of her. Awesome!

The rush was slowing as Lucy finished up taking another order. Next in line appeared to be a student on summer holiday. "Welcome to the Leaky. What can I get for you today?" She absolutely loved having the students in town over the summer. The more young folk the better, in her opinion. The added excitement of the Quidditch World cup only made it better.

Tori and the shopkeeper too

Aurora wasn't that starving, but she wanted to grab something to eat. After finished with her shopping spree, the Korean-American decided to come to this pub. This place was quite crowded, probably because it's lunchtime and they did serve good food here. She believed if a restaurant, cafe or anything was crowded, it's because their menu were excellent and people loved eating there.

She was standing in line with a few people ahead of her, including this cute girl. Staring at the menu, Aurora was unfamiliar with some of the items there. Steak and Kidney? Like... an actual kidney? Holy Isolt, that didn't sound appealing. Pie as entrees? Oh wait, she did read about how British people loved their pie savory. Probably she should try it but also... those fish and chips sounded intriguing. "Do they serve fish and chips with... potato chips?" As in chips, like Pringles or Lays.

Oh. It was her turn now! Cool! Torii gave the lady a polite smile as she looked up at the menu to verify her selection. "I'll take a butterbeer, please," she said. Did it come in different sizes? She didn't know, but if it did, the lady would probably say something. She fished in her pocket and pulled out a bit of change.

As she did this, she became aware of some girl talking, and she honestly couldn't tell if the girl was talking to her or not. Uhh... "You mean fries? Or like, actual crisps?" Torii asked. She remembered being in that same position not that long ago. "If you want fries, you ask for chips, but if you want the thin, crunchy-type chips, you ask for crisps." Did that make sense?

Verifying the price on the menu, the fifteen-year-old counted out the change and passed it to the bartender. She even added in a bit more for a tip.

"One butterbeer coming right up." She grabbed a large mug and filled it up before placing it on the counter. Before she could give her the price, the girl had her money ready. "Thank you. .............

Funny that both England and America use English but has different terms for certain things such as this potato thing. Aurora knew chips as something that has been thinly sliced and cooked until it has crunchy texture, and it's not only for those that's made from potato. But according to the girl who stood in front of her, chips was actually what American called "fries". Ahhh... "Oh, so this fish and chips is served with fries..."" The Korean-American nodded. "Thanks."

When the shopkeeper asked the girl in front of her if her friend (a.k.a herself), Aurora just chuckled. "Oh, we don't come together. I'm just asking her about this chips and fries thingy." She mused a smile. "But I would like to try it, please? It sounds good. Is there anything that you' recommend for a newcomer like me?" She asked them both.

On the particularly sunny October afternoon, Lucy hummed as she cleaned down the counters and sorted through her supply lists. The holidays would soon be upon them and she was enjoying the last few weeks of calm before the rush.

Her eyes drifted towards the front door when she heard the all too familiar jingle of the bell and she wondered who would soon be approaching the counter.

Lucien was surprised by the nice weather outside at this time of year, normally it was starting to get chilly in this part of the country. Or maybe he had been outside the country for so long that he had simply forgotten, or over-exaggerated, how bad the fall weather could be. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise. As was the delicious smell of food that seemed to waft through the air of the Leaky Cauldron. Ahhhh. Such fond memories. He thought to himself as a smile crept on to his face.

It had been a while since his Hogwarts days where he would come through the Leaky to get to Diagon Alley and meet up with friends before the school year to get their supplies. Fond memories indeed.

Making his way to the counter he smiled at the woman behind it. "Hello, I'm Lucien Wright. How are you on this lovely day?"

Lucy didn't need to wonder long about the newest customer. He was heading right for her. Her hands gently brushed against her apron, more out of habit than wiping them off. "I'm very well, Mr. Wright. Thank you for asking. I hope the same can be said for you." She reached over to grab her order pad. "What may I help you with today?" Her mind quickly raced between taking an order for food and setting him up for a stay in the rooms. Since the one spot at the counter took care of the entire establishment, she never knew which it would be.

She seemed like a very busy woman, he didn't want to waste her time and got straight to the point. "Well, I'd love a form for a room and to order some food. I'd like to sta for about two weeks if there's a room available?"

Giving a brief look over the menu he knew what he wanted. "Can I get a butterbeer and a turkey sandwich?" It sounded like just the ticket for him. the butterbeer would wash it all down nicely and would be great after the traveling he's been doing.

Lucy reached down and took a form off the top of the pile. "Of course. This is our room form for you to fill out. I do have a room available for a two weeks. It would be 160 Galleons for the stay." She hoped the cost wouldn't be an issue. Not that she was overpriced, but it was a good deal of money to spend.

With a grin on his face, Lucien happily accepted the paper. "This is just excellent, thank you." He read over the paper briefly and grabbed a pen from his inner jacket pocket and began to fill the form.

Handing the form back to the woman he heard her offer and couldn't resist. "That sounds like an offer I can't refuse." Partially because he couldn't be bothered to look elsewhere for accommodations, but the Leaky was just fine for what he needed anyways. "Absolutely lovely, thank you." With a look over his shoulder he continued, "Would it be alright if I were to bring my things up to the room now? And come back down for the drink and food? I'm terribly sorry, it's just been a long day." He smiled, but understood if she needed time to make up the room.

Having recently come into ownership of the magnificent Leaky Cauldron, and bringing back many memories from her young Hogwarts days, Lou found herself on a ladder behind the counter with a chalk pen in hand. She had a list of the items offered and was transcribing it onto her new, large, blackboard walls behind the bar. Using the temporary lines, she made uniform and tidy lettering across the boards.

Various potted plants scattered around the shelves, counter, and grew up the walls. Mostly herbs and vegetables that she would also use in her food and drinks. The touch of her Homesteading brought to the Leaky, where she wanted to offer her customers delicious tastes of flavourful produce.

She paused to stretch out her wrist. Of course doing it the muggle way was painful and slow, but she had already organised everything, put things into their places, and cleaned every one of the guest-rooms. She had time to do this the muggle way.

”Pardon?” Winnie called out as she leaned on the counter. Shopping bags from Madam Primpernelle's and Madam Malkin's leaned against her ankles where she had placed them. She watched the witch on the latter writing on the blackboards for a moment and then, without thinking (as was her way) asked. ”Wouldn’t a charm have been easier?” And safer, but she kept that to herself. Winnie wasn’t completely lacking in social pleasantries. Conley had made sure of that with years of his dragging her along to diplomatic events. They were always dull, droning affairs and she was quite grateful that her cousin had finally found a significant other to drag along now…well, eventually to drag along.

Apparently not soon enough though, because in one of her bags was an evening dress she was going to have to stuff herself into in a few days. Some such event in France for some event celebrating something…she should probably figure it out before Conley picked her up. She wondered if Sachin would be attending too, but had a feeling he wouldn’t be. Which would be fine, so long as Rosa was not there.

She forced those thoughts from her mind as she watched the witch work. ”Although I imagine the charm wouldn’t have as nice lettering as you do.” She smiled, a big toothy thing. She wasn’t in a hurry and could wait for the witch to finish her writing.

Lou could sort of sense someone else was there with her, so when the customer spoke it wasn't a surprise. Lou turned around, smile on her face as she listened, and followed it with a laugh. "I suppose it would have been, but I wanted to do this by hand." And it helped take her mind off things. She looked back at her boards which, she had to admit, were very nice. "That's true. I find the charm is quick but not as... personalised." With a nod, she descended from the ladder and put the chalk pen away. "Do you need some refreshments after a big shop?" Lou asked. It was going to test her restraint living in Diagon Alley. All the beautiful shops around, everything she could possibly need or want within short walking distance.
