1. If a moderator or administrator contacts you about a post or thread, please take it seriously. They are doing this for the good of the site, so please do not reply nastily to the person who contacted you.
2. If you ever come across a post or a thread that you find offensive, PLEASE do not take it into your own hands. Instead, contact a moderator of the Leaky Cauldron and ask them to handle the situation. Remember, not everyone knows or is familiar with all the rules of the site.
3. We understand that members of this site want to help out, but when a post is made that goes against the rules in some way, please let the Leaky Cauldron moderators handle it. Ten different postings of "This is in the wrong place!" or "This isn't appropriate" only clutter up the thread and makes the problem worse. You can help us out by reporting the post in question.
4. Before you create a topic, make sure that the topic does not already exist. This may mean you have to look back a few pages in the forum. Duplicate threads will not be approved.
5. Use a title for your topic that clearly states the question or issue... don't use titles like "Whaaaa...?" or "WKWTST", and please make sure you spell it correctly. Titles like "post here!", "read this!", or "tel uz wut ur fav pet iz" are irrelevant, and chatspeak isn't proper grammar so it doesn't belong in thread titles. Also please do not put half a sentence in the title and finish it in the post. This is very confusing and we will change it if it is done.
6. Please do not spam or write one-word replies that mean absolutely nothing. Making a post to the effect of "LOL" or "Yeah, I agree" is pointless as are smilie-only posts, and most people do it just to bring up their post count. Posts like this will be deleted, as they clutter up a topic and are considered spam. Also, please try to stay on topic. Making a post in the middle of a topic asking someone where they got their avatar is against the rules, and those posts will also be deleted. Remember that spam posts go against the SS Rules & FAQ and offenders will be warned.
7. Please keep all music, actor/actress, movie and television, sports, video games and cartoon, and book topics in their own subforums. If a topic doesn't fit in these subforms, it belongs in the general Leaky Cauldron forum.
8. No swearing, whatsoever. It does not matter if it’s a part of a song or it completes a funny thing someone said in a post before yours. Basically, if it has a swear word in it, then do not post it. This includes the use of asterisks (*), periods (.), dashes (-), etc. in the middle of the word or to replace the word itself. If we find it, we will delete/edit the post and you will be issued a warning.
9. Any threads about war, politics, and/or religion are strictly forbidden per the SS Rules & FAQ. If you submit one of these topics, it will not be approved and a warning will be issued. If you decide to discuss any of these issues in any of the Leaky Cauldron threads, a warning will be issued.
10. No clubs in the Leaky Cauldron, not even Harry Potter-related. If you're looking for the fan clubs, please visit Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor where all of the HP-related fan clubs can be found (this includes HP actors).
11. Respect other people’s ideas and opinions even if you may not agree with something they’ve said because everyone is entitled to their own ideas and opinions. There’s no need to start a heated debate/discussion over musicians, actors, movies, etc. in which other members are put down. We will not accept such behaviour and a warning will be issued.
12. If you are not sure about anything, feel free to PM one of the Leaky Cauldron moderators and tell us your problem.
13. Threads that have not been posted in for three months will be bumped to the top of the forum. This helps everyone see that the topics are still around. A thread that is inactive for four months will be deleted.
