Kitchen

The entrance to the kitchen lies at the end of an otherwise empty corridor. It can be accessed by uttering the password "Ouvriez", a change made to accommodate the guests. No need to have anything too complicated they may or may not be able to pronounce. There is, however, a student bakery and the students are encouraged to make use of it instead. The elves are very busy and need not be disturbed by children and their cravings.

On the inside, there isn't a pot or a pan out of place. Many of the surfaces are made of marble and the wooden cupboards polished mahogany. If you'd like to do something that isn't along the lines of baking or the bakery is too full to accommodate you, you are expected to clean up after yourself here. Don't leave a mess for the elves, they don't work for you.

The cupboards are always stocked and the fireplace can accommodate several cauldrons and pots at once.

Is it hot in here or is it just that fire that’s been started over in the corner?

Hard to say what started the blaze as whatever or whoever has since disappeared, but the furnace that slowly spreads outward into the rest of the room has no such plans at disappearing.

The sweltering heat spreads even quicker, and smoke rises til there is nowhere left to go. Unfortunate, truly. The castle’s supplies are like to burn away completely if someone doesn’t put an end to this.

What will you eat?

Cole was on his way down to check out the grand ballroom to know what he was in for later with the Valentines ball. It was best to be prepared. He knew there would be dancing, and as luck had it he wasn’t a total miss at it. Cole could dance since his stepmother had made sure he had taken lessons. Hopefully the girl he got up the nerve to ask to be his date for it would say yes. Nearing the kitchen Cole stopped to sniff the air, was that smoke?

Unsure if the beauxbatons elves took as kind to student visitors as their Hogwarts counterpart Cole picked up his pace as he followed the now visible smoke coming from the kitchens becoming wary. Had a fire broken out? Muttering "Ouvriez" Cole entered the kitchen area and almost immediately he got hit in the face by the sweltering heat. Eyes widening at the sight of the spreading fire he shrieked out in as loud a voice he could "FIRE! THERE IS a FIRE in the KITCHENS!" Hopefully someone heard him as he felt around in his pocket for his wand. Producing it he casted several times "Agumenti duo!" towards the fire. Did they have fire extinguishers in this place or was that only muggles?

You know what Missa Renaldi needed when she was studying for O.W.Ls? Things to munch on. Lots and lots of snacks to spiral with while she tried not to panic. However, what she really didn't need was OTHER Beauxbatons kids do this walk of shame.

Very much in her pajamas, the fifteen year old had been trying to sneak her way into the kitchen when she heard the YELL.

And then saw the blaze.

WHAT?

Fire????

Reaching for her wand immediately, Missa neared the Gryffindor, and shouted 'Agumenti duo' but with her free hand tugged at his arm too, "we need to get out of here! Call for help!"

Trust Hogwarts luck to reach Beauxbatons too.

"Agumenti duo!" Cole casted repeatedly backing backwards as the fire kept spreading and the heat was so hot that he felt how sweat started to trickle down his face and back. When a slightly elder girl came in and over to him he looked over her pyjama clad shoulder expecting a cavalry of professors to have come with her and elves too, but there was none. How could nobody see the smoke and smell it too? Cole let the girl tug him with her backwards towards the door. Nodding he shouted over the blaze to her. "Yes, we need to get out of here, but how do we stop the fire from spreading anywhere else? Our water charms aren't working."

With his wand hand Cole kept casting "Agumenti duo!" even if it seemed futile. He didn’t know any other spells that could be useful right about now. "Which professor is closest? I can’t cast a patronus, can you?" They needed adult help and fast… Help!!!

Baron Snozz was heading to the castle for a little snack. Someone with chocolate, no doubt. Probably would pick up some salt if there were students present. Yes, yes, his tastes were hideous. But They weren't that hideous. He'd only grab the salt if there were students looking, so as to make it LOOK like he was about to cover his sugar with salt. Playing into the eccentric image a bit.

But then...

SCREAMING

What? His instincts kicked into high gear and he RAN towards the source of the commotion. It was the kitchen, the very place he was headed. There was smoke coming down the corridor. "Ouvriez!" he shouted, rolling up his sleeves and running into the kitchen.

He surveyed the scene before him. Two students, one in her pajamas, and a raging fire threatening to destroy everything. "Great Hades!" he shouted, and then he pointed his wand at the fire. "AQUA ERUCTO! AQUA ERUCTO! AQUA ERUCTO!" Three brilliant blasts of water shot from his wand and hit the fire in three different places.

"Has anyone been hurt?!" he asked, turning to the two students, his wand still pointed at the fires.

Imagine being able to enjoy a quiet cup of tea in her office.

Ayana had jumped at the first sound of screaming, and (sadly) left her exceptional cup of tea to grow cold as she ran to find the source of the commotion. Wand out, she rounded the corridor with the entrance to the kitchen and saw an orange-yellow flickering light that really could only be one thing. Coupled with the smoke, Ayana sprinted the rest of the way there.

Fires in kitchens were never a good thing.

Not bothering with the password as the door was still open - she heard Snozz and assumed she'd arrived just after he did - Ayana saw lots of water being pointed at an enormous, scalding fire. Well. Ayana sent her patronus, a silvery elephant, galloping to notify Headmaster Trent. He should definitely know, regardless of how this had been started. She imagined he wouldn't like to be surprised with the news when the Beauxbatons Headmistress inevitably asked him about it.

"Missa, Cole, is there anyone else here?" Ayana continued Snozz's questioning and beckoned for the two students to run through the door, holding it open with one hand as she too conjured water at the flames. It would be better to douse the blaze with sand, but that wasn't her area of expertise.

She'll ask about the decision to walk around in night clothes once they'd finished dealing with the flames, by the way. Looking at you there, Miss Renaldi.

Listen, it had been a WEEK. Piers had gotten a cold and had lost the ability to breathe out of his nose, he had been cramped into his tight quarters and had to listen to a whole bunch of whiny teenagers complain about their own cramped quarters and he was just DONE with it.

Thankfully, he was actually, really done with the cold part. His sinuses had finally drained and he was feeling better, but he was in the mood for some pie... surely pie would really help him kick the rest of the little bout of sickness he had away.

And he was almost to the kitchens... when he smelled smoke.... and heard people yelling.

There was a FIRE in the KITCHENS.

Really???

How inconvenient.

Emitting a loud and clearly irritated sigh, Piers stepped up to the scene, more disappointed than anything. Blame it on the head cold, but he really just wanted pie. And now, if there even WAS any pie in the kitchen, it was going to be burnt to a crisp.

LUCKILY, he was the ever charming Charms professor, who knew a lot of spells that these nerds didn't.

"Oi, stop your watering and get OUT," he called out, TOO calmly to the people who were TRYING to stop the fire with a TINY stream of wand water. Please. Alongside Professor Sissay, Piers tried to usher the students out of the kitchen so they wouldn't be in harms way. "Is there anyone else in here??" he called out before quickly casting a bubble head charm over himself so he could breathe without inhaling any of the smoke. He was going to 1) find any other students and get them out and then 2) look for any remains of pie and also get those out, but he was definitely legally and morally obligated to save the students first.

Raising his wand towards the fire, Piers glanced at the Sissay and Snozz. "Call the Headmaster. Don't tell the Headmistress." She'd obviously find out anyway, but delaying the message until after the situation was controlled would probably be better. He had a feeling she had an issue with high blood pressure and this wouldn't help.

And with that, Piers starting casting a fire extinguishing charm on the rising flames, roasting his tush in the burning room. All for Queen and Country. And pie.

Cole was backing towards the entrance with the girl by his side. It was so hot in there and sadly the fire kept spreading and filling the air with more smoke by the second. He had started to cough and felt his eyes water by the time that the first professor arrived. Cole wasn't exactly a fan of Professor Snozz, but at least he took immediate action against the raging fire. He was about to open his mouth to answer Professor Snozz's question when they we're joined by Professors Sissay and Fuller-Thompson too. Good Hogwarts profs not french or they'd be in major trouble.

Cole registered that the girl beside him was called Missa before he turned his gaze to Professor Sissay with a shake of the head as he moved toward the door and out tugging Missa with him. "I don't think either of us are hurt," Cole said with a glance to Missa. "Except for inhaling some of the smoke. Nobody else is in here. I haven't seen any elves since I came in here and saw the fire." With his free wand hand Cole casted some water spells too even if they evidently weren't as effective the three professors spells. Eyeing the raging fire he asked nobody in particular "Who'd start a fire in here?"

Samia 10-06-2019 02:55 AM

Were her pajamas really an issue here? Because they might just turn to roast with Missa if you don't get her out of here, Professor Sissay!

But THEY WERE OKAY, the professors were here. Quickly nodding at Professor Snozz and Professor Sissay, the fifteen year old covered her mouth and nose with her arm, before speaking, "I didn't see anyone else in there"

Before she could say anything else though, another professor had arrived, oh yay. She felt an increase of relief in her at the sight, and slowly backed into Professor Sissay to protect herself, because clearly so far whatever they were doing was wrong - or so Professor Piers was saying.

And she didn't even know the charm he was casting, so really - she was no good.

When Cole spoke up again, the brunette gave him a look - because did they really have to get in this conversation while the fire was still a thing, and they were still standing very much near it. "I think we can figure that out once we get out of here," she simply said, avoiding an urge to roll her eyes, because she really didn't want to die on a note of rolling her eyes.

You know what you never wanted to hear as a Headmaster sharing a castle with a disagreeable Headmistress?

"Don't tell the Headmistress."

Some may have called this eerily accurate timing, but Malachi Neil Trent now very much regretted his decision to head to the kitchen for a quick snack. DEFINITELY REGRETTED THIS. The Headmaster looked between everyone there before his gaze settled on the fire in Headmistress Desmarais's kitchen.

"Are we cursed? Is that what this is? Did someone take back an artifact from Egypt or Brazil that they shouldn't have? Is that what this all is?" No. Serious question. When it wasn't one gosh darn thing it was another. Just how much could actually happen?? Was everything conspiring to get them kicked out?? Where was the Headmistress. She had an equal penchant for showing up when things happened that happened to have his students.

No. No that wasn't the right reaction for the moment. Fire. Danger. Children. Right. Focus Trent.

"Alright alright, calmly but quickly, everyone out. Don't try to save anything. We'll get this sorted. First things first, safety." Malachi nudged the kitchen door he'd just walked through back open and gestured for everyone to file out. "No time to waste."

sarahlooo 10-14-2019 03:23 AM

Who would even start the fire - yes, that was a good question. One that Piers was not going to try and answer at the moment. One, because he was quite busy putting OUT said fire, and two because... well, he didn't know. And, well... that was that.

The following questions by the Headmaster were also very, very good questions, one that he also did not have an answer to.

Thanks to the bubble head charm, Piers was able to linger near the flames so that he could put them out with the fire extinguishing charm without choking. While the flames dissipated, Piers moved back toward the door, where the Headmaster was ushering people out. "Alright, flames are out," Piers said when he reached the door. The smoke, however, was still very present and filling much of the kitchen.

"To answer your question, though," Piers said, quickly removing his bubble head charm as he stepped out of the door, "I think we're cursed." It was the only way to put it.

Nordic Witch 10-14-2019 03:26 PM

Who had started the fire and why Cole could agree weren't the top priority right now since safety came first. Leaving the kitchen as instructed by Headmaster Trent he lingered back outside it with the adult's and Missa to stare into the kitchen at the roaring fire. He had seen the look Missa had given him and Cole had done his very best to not snap back at her. He had just put words to what they all had been thinking, why had that been so wrong? Okay he probably had chosen the wrong time to utter those toughts but still. They deserved to be said didn't they?

It did not take long before Professor Fuller-Thompson emerged from the kitchen after quickly and efficiently putting the fire out. Cole could see and smell though that the smoke was still thick. Looking around at the gathered adults Cole asked "How come no elves we're in the kitchen? Don't they live there?"
