And as for the Horcrux hunt, I must admit I did get the idea from something that was set up a while ago. I'm not sure who organised it or how it was done, but it was fantastic and enough to get people involved. Great minds, eh?!

Just a quick thought, if we want more officer applications, how about another news letter? We could mention the activities we have going at the moment, hint about what is coming up, advertise the officer positions coming up, and also ask for more participation in the trivia section?

Would it also be possible to not just send it out to members, but perhaps other active members and possibly newbie members aswell?

Just think if we want the activities fortnight (really got to come up with a catchy name for that) we could do with increasing our profile.

Hmm I agree with getting new members. I know when I was a newbie the thought of posting in a FC that was big scared me a bit. If we're friendly enough to them (which we should be anyway) then they may join. I think we need something catchy, something to make the members want to join you know?

Thank you!!! I'm really excited, I just think we can really make a big go of this and I'm so happy to be a part of it. Woo hoo!!!

I did think we could maybe start introducing ourselves to new members. It's a same we don't have an advertising thread in Platform 9 3/4 for FCs to sell themselves to newbies and ask any questions they might have.

I did mention to our Promotions officer (sorry Potter101 - don't know your name) that we could perhaps contact newbies by PM and introduce ourselves.

I'm like you, it was really daunting to join a big group where it seems everyone knows each other really well, so if we approach people (newbies and members) and just introduce ourselves, it may generate some interest.

Not really thought about the logistics, but maybe it's a start?

Anyone have any further ideas for the JKR fortnight? With it only being next month, just worried about organising it and being a rush job at the last minute.

I'm getting a few questions ready for the trivia section. Thought 10 questions on Jo and 10 on her work, ranging from easy to really hard.

So far, the ideas are:

*Guess the Charrie game

*Submit a Drabble

*Trivia Quiz

*Find the Horcruxes

*Grab bag

*Get a Book Cover

*Re-write a scene comp (scenes to be decided: All from DH or spread over other books)

*Design a banner/ siggie/ avvie

*Add to JKR letter

*News discussion

*Possibly sending user notes or PMs to people wishing them a happy JKR day (Done on the actual anniversary)


Anything more? I know it looks a fair bit when written down, but would be nice to add more and round it up to an even number (I'm weird and have a thing about odd numbers).

Plus, what name can we give this event? Whenever I talk about it, it just seems so random so if we could give it a name, it just seems more formal and like we are really going to do this. The more snappy the better. Any ideas?

Also, what kind of detail do we need to go into to seek approval from "the management"? If set up drawing a draft proposal with us all adding to it, the sooner we get on to it, the sooner we can really get into the planning stages.

And one last thing... How about setting a news letter up to be sent out 1-2 weeks before the event starts? Send it site wide so we have bits for current members, but also it could net new members, especially if we advertise the things we are setting up. Not really mentioning them all so there is some surprise and build up some anticipation?

I am just rambling now, but would be great to hear what you all think!

For the news discussion are we going to have one big thread for all the news artilcles on her or are e going to pick one main article and go from there?

For the drabble, how about we do around 150 words? We dont't want to make it too difficult for them right, so if we have 150 words then it should be good. Will we do promts like the SS 100 does or something diffrent?

I love the idea of randomly giving ut usernotes to newbies or just other members who aren't a part of the club. Great way of getting our names out there without sspamming the thread etc.

How about we all take 2 ideas and complete the write up for it, when that is done, take 2 more and do the same. That way we aren't overloading ourselves and not biting off more than we can chew each time?

I'll do the trivia quiz and guess the charrie idea, but would like people's input for the latter.

I was wondering for the Horcrux hunt, do we know who organized the last one? It was just so good with the clues etc, we could see how they went about it and perhaps get some help in doing it.

Also, should we altogether decide when they are going to be done now. Like on the first day, release a quiz and drabble contest, then two days later arrange the write a scene comp and get the grab bags up and running. These are just examples (completely plucked from thin air), but if we all decide together, we have more of an idea of what we aiming for?

I'm almost finished with mine, I'll post them up her when I'm done. I've added some examples so she knows what we're talking about etc.

Hmm timeline? Well, we're doing a week long thing right? So how does:

1st day:
*Design a banner/ siggie/ avvie (this could be a semi week long event. Or we cdould start it up sooner before the event so members can get the entries in?)

*Trivia Quiz (Again, could last all week, especially if we want the members to PM their enteries to us.)


2nd day:

*Find the Horcruxes (needs more work on this before we fully decide)

Third day:

(Continuation of graphics and trivia contest.) Could we also start up a game or something in the chat/discussion thread to keep members interested, like a dare game or a JK Rowling is my woman!' game?)

*Submit a Drabble (Like the first one, it could last all week, with a vote during the last two days or so?)

Fourth Day:
*Guess the Charrie game (We could start this on the second day, having it go all through the festivities maybe? Just a thought)

*Re-write a scene comp (scenes to be decided: All from DH or spread over other books) ( Okay, for this we'd only need a few days for the members to write in, or should they have throughout ther whole event?)

Fifth Day:
(Continuation of Trivia, drabble and graphics contests. Last day for Trivia? We'll need to decide on how long the contests go for and such...)

Finaly votes for Drabble, graphics contest. If we get enough entries that is. Or are we going to just let the officers vote? Is there enough of us to make a rational judgemebt?)

Last Day :
Winners of the graphics, drabble and trivia contest are announced. Awartd graphics are handed out, and games conculude or something to that effect.)

Hey guys, sorry I've not been on for a while, but work's been pretty demanding recently. However, I'm getting the write ups done for the 2 items I've picked and I'm also getting the trivia quiz questions sorted, so hopefully we'll get it together.

The write ups I have done, if you have any tweaks or ideas, just let me know and they can be amended.

The write up for the trivia quiz:

There is a thread where a post with 20-30 questions (i'm thinking half on the mighty JKR herself and half on her works). The aim is for people to complete the questions without using the help of the books or internet. All their own work and knowledge. I think that should be mentioned in the initial post, however I do acknowledge it will be impossible to regulate. They will then PM the answers to JKRFC officers (to be decided whether all of the officers or just the co-pressies if the others want to participate). We have set answers to the questions and on the last day of the extravaganza we could announce those that got 100% right. I think the prizes should be divided into 2. For those that get them all right, perhaps a tag by their user name. Then a participation prize for the others (to be decided whether it be a siggie/ avvie/ banner/ drabble in their user notes etc).

The reason I like the idea of a tag is that a lot of people want them. Also, I know with images, people put a lot of time and effort into their siggies and avvies and as they do relate to their school and ministry charries a lot wouldn't use the prize. But that's just me. I don't know what would go into sorting the tag out.

The write up for Guess the Charrie:

Cheeky I know, but basically copying the Valentines owl idea. We write up 30 characters, perhaps focusing on one part of them and making the description as zaney as possible but having the essence there, and we post 3 of these descriptions to a few members of the site, and then steadily drip the rest of the posts to other members. They then have to post them to each other to collect them all. This way it will get people PMing people they don't know more. I really liked this idea the first time round and it got me talking to people I didn't know. When they have collected them all and have identified all of the characters, they PM them to JKRFC officers and we can sort out prizes. User notes saying they are the Charrie Guessing Champs, or a drabble/ limmerick etc saying how fantastic they are saying they.



Just another thought. With June speeding up to the end, we really need to get cracking with these ideas if we are going to get them running, or rethinking our timing (perhaps start the celebrations on the release date of DH). Also, I don't know how feesable it is, but do you think any of the active Charrie FCs would want to throw their hats into the ring and run an event within the fortnight. It'll still be hosted by us, but they could make a guest apearance. I was just thinking that it may help to get more things done by the time limit. I don't know how it would work, but just a thought that came to me.

And one last thing (I think I'm on my 4th edit), how about sporting some siggies on the lead up to thing, perhaps having an air of mystery. Something like "It's coming... Brought to you by JKR FC".

Ok, I know that was a bit lame, but I know that we have some very gifted creative people here, so I know we can do better, but it could give us some hype?

Basically all it is is a contest where you write up yur own version of an event in the Harry Potter world. We give the member some choices on diffrent scenes (etc, Dobby dying, Teddy snogging Victiore etc) and the member would have a choice at which one to change. The length of the scene would depend on how long the scene in the book was, but they shouldn't go over 300 words I guess.

All scenes would have to be Pg-13, keeping to the SS rules and guidelines. Also, no SS School characters will be allowed to be placed in the story, as it's not true HP.


*Design a banner/ siggie/ avvie
The name speaks for itself; the JKR Fan Club needs a banner and it's up to you, our amazing members to create one! You have free reign on this, but of course there' rules:

- All siggies and avvies must abide by the SS Rules and Quidelines
- Width no bigger than 450, height no bigger than 200; banners sizes may vary.
- JKR related


They're not much, but it's a start. I can't think anymore right now so yeah I'll add more later

Hmm for the Character FC's running an event I don't know how feasible that will be. A lot of the FC's are at a stand still which is sad, though they could pick up once summer really starts and everyone is on break. It could be done but yeah I can't say yeah or nah.

Oh and I love the siggie idea, it'll really hype up the event (if the event is okayed of course)

So what other write-ups do we need finished?

Just a thought, with the rewrite a scene, how will it be judged, because I think the judging of the slogan contest where everyone on the site have an opportunity to have a say is really great. I suppose it does depend on the turn out, but was just a thought.

And I think you are right with the FCs. I'm just very conscious that we have under 1 month to sort it all out and there are only a few of us sorting it, so any help we could rope in would be ideal.

Other than that, the write ups are coming along great.

Write up for Find the Horcruxes:


Basically the same idea as what was done before. We hide graphics in posts around the site and we have clues that help guide members to them. They will then PM the post links to a JKR FC officer and we will verify them. If we can find someone to spruce it up so it's technically all fancy then that would be great (big hint that suggestions of names of who could help would be welcome).


Write up for PMs and user notes
With this planning taking so long, perhaps it would be good to start the event actually on the anniversary on the DH release date. If this is the plan, then we would send a mixture of PMs and User notes to JKR FC members/ Site members (help please to decide which) wishing them a Happy JKR day and also notify them of the goings on with event.

Alright, I'm started to get a bit concerned that this project is going to be a bit difficult to pull off as our officers start dropping like flies. I'm going to let you all decide ultimately, but I feel like I need to at least give an opinion.

Right now, the only officers in this FC are the two co-presidents and the news/birthday officer. I really think we need to make filling those positions a top priority. I also think we need to focus on advertising the FC around the site, especially in the TP. Perhaps we can send out a welcome PM to the new unsorted members inviting them to join the FC and get involved. I also think we need to send a reminder PM to the current members to get involved.

I think the event may need to be postponed a bit. We could try to aim for a birthday celebration for Jo (July 31) and we can add a thread for everyone to give her birthday wishes? It can run July 31 into August a couple weeks and we can ask to have a subforum created within this FC and then make an announcement on the site news page.

If you think we can pull this off earlier, I'll help you in whatever way I can, but I think it might be adviseable to put it off a little bit so we can try to get more activity. Even the end of the month may be tough, but if we want to make this happen, I def think you guys can do it!
