Ok...sorry it seems like I've dropped off the face of the earth...but for the longest time I had no internet then when I did I've been trying to get my business up and running and then I possibly got a teaching position at my uni and then I'm in my final two weeks of the semester...so...yeah...

I'm taking a breather this Saturday so I'll let get some things done then! And I think the participation siggie looks awesome!

Is there any luck with the graphics contest?

Was just wondering, with the anniversary of the release date of DH, we should honour the event by making it JKR day!!! And perhaps we could sort out some activities. Like asking members of Snitchseeker (not sure whether to limit it to just JKR FC members or not) to honour the great lady in what ever way they wish. Whether it be a super siggie, an amazing avvie and daring drabble or anything else their creative minds come up with.

We could also send ramdom PMs, user notes and also just drop into random threads and bring the festivities to others as well.

What do you think?

I really like the idea of having a celebration like that. Let's come up with a list of activities that they can participate in. I'll compile what you've stated, maybe add one or two, and I'd like everyone else to do the same:

1. Avatar
2. Signature
3. Drabble
4. Banner
5. Craft of some kind (maybe a paper-bag puppet of JKR lol or anything of their choice)
6. Maybe rewriting a scene from DH that they wished went a different way?

Also, I think we should make it site-wide, in order to attract some new members and also, contribute in our efforts to expand our own forum. Maybe we can have a variety of threads - one to submit finished products, maybe one to play JKR trivia (I'll have to request permission for the game), etc.

That was along the lines I was thinking of (great minds think alike eh?), but I just don't where to start.

At least we have a while to get things in motion. Hopefully, if we can get permission, we'll have a lot of ideas that we can run with. Maybe make the run up to up over a few days but on the actual day, perhaps that's when we bombard people with "Happy JKR day" stuff. Try and get something to every active member (that may be a bit too hopeful, but let's aim high).

I just think that this is something that everyone can get involved with.

Perhaps start up a couple of competitions, like guess the character from a wacky description, or find the deathly hallows and horcruxes. Just so if people don't feel that creative, there is something for everyone.

Perhaps a poem based on a scene in DH or maybe a short little quiz thing...maybe 5 questions long or something

I like the site wide idea thingy too...and perhaps in order to participate we can make them join the JKRFC lol

And ok...I had my final presentation today in my thesis class...and my book is done...and my site is 90% done and I have 3 weeks off after next week...so yay time to devote yay! :p

How about a grab bag for all the members, with special icons for those who participated and even one for those who haven't. People love grab bags, and we could make it even more special by having a request thread like the DAFC did where the members requested the graphics they wanted.

I love this idea, I think it's exactly what we need to get JKRFC back in otion as being a popular club again

That sounds wicked! I love the sound of a grab bag but I am so useless at graphics etc, I can't be of any help there (completely uncreative).

If it goes well, then we have an annual promo for the FC!

Sadly, accio.brain has had to step down from the Graphics position in order to tend to real life busy-ness. Bonnelass830 is still in the Graphics position and so we won't be putting out an application for a replacement for accio.brain unless the workload gets too demanding.

I love the grab-bag idea, although with one graphics officer it'll be a lot of work for just one person. I like the idea of having some games and quizzes, some JKR trivia and some HP trivia. If we have a horcrux hunt, think someone can find some good pictures of the 7(8) items? Harry will be an easy pic to find, but let's get one of the ring, the locket, the cup, etc. Either we can find pics that look similar to how we imagine them (since we dont have pics of all of these things from the movies as of yet) or we can see if some of the chapter art in the books has pics of these, or if someone is a talented artist, they could sketch out the objects and scan them in... Representations will probably be the easiest. We can hide the 8 objects in different FCs and people will have to provide us with the links for the locations. We can give them small clues to help them find the horcruxes?

I'll be glad to help bonnelasse out with the graphics if we do decide to do the grab bag, we don't need that many.

Something along those lines, I'm not thinking straight and just throwing ideas out there so yeah. Should we let them pick the scene or should we give them a short list of scenes for the to pick from?

I think it would be easier for us if we were to list scenes...maybe if we all picked a scene or 2 we wished were different. This way we all have an easy reference...

ndebic (is there an easier name I can call you? sorry lol)...those graphics look good...but when would they be needed by? I mean I could draw them out...or perhaps me and monkey can split them and do them in the computer?

It's nat, ha ha (I so regret that username now).

I just did a quick reckie for those graphics so if it gets really busy, they'll do, but there may be better ones out there. Just think that if it all starts snow balling, that is possibly one job ticked off to do. As for what to do to them, I am completely graphics illiterate, so I will leave that for someone else to make a preference on. What ever you decide will be good.

I suppose one thing we need to decide on is how long should be drag this out for. Should it be a week and the last day be the DH release anniversary. It's just with so many things planned, to cram them all in to one day would seem a bit of a waste. So if it is for a week, should everything be ready to go for the first week in July?

If this is being made site wide, do we need to seek permission from anyone for it or any guide lines we need to follow?

I actually think maybe we should run the event for two weeks, maybe one week before and one week after the anniversary date, in order to give people as much time as possible to participate.

And yes, we'll have to get this run by an admin in order to hold the event beyond the 'walls' of our FC.

I think we should offer them approx. 3 scenes, not too many but enough that they have some choice.

I like the sounds of that, three will definitly be enough for them to decide what one they want to do.

I really hope an admin okays' this, it'll be amazing for the FC.

Who needs to submit it to admin? Is it a sort-the-idea-out first then take it or do we wait for the okay before we get carried away?


Which 3 scenes? Should we all put forward which scenes that we think would be ok and then whittle it down?

I can bring it to an admin, but first let's get a decent outline of what the event will consist of. We don't need to have all the details planned, but I do need a concise and clear outline of what we want to do to present. So basically, let's organize the ideas into sections (games, graphics, writing, etc.) and then categorize all the ideas we have into each of those sections and include any details we have so far.

Well, to get in there first, I could do the Trivia quiz (seeing as everything else needs a creative mind for the detail).

I think it is a wicked idea to head up your own section, but I really do look forward to asking others for their advice on mine and giving mine if it is needed. I like the idea of working on it all together.

Also, I was in bed when a thought came to me. I don't know how do-able it is, but we could ask people to submit their character name and a few details about themselves and we could come up with a book sleeve for them. Like Georgina Fallows and the Forest of Danger and come up with a little story overview using the details they have submitted. Like I say, I don't know if this would take too much doing, but I remember something similar being used before where I have submitted random details about myself and got a drabble using that info so was thinking along the same lines.

Just another thought... Did we send off the letter to JKR? If we haven't we could either ask others to contribute or send it to her mentioning this event and saying something like

"You have been so amazing creating a world for us to live in, it would be great if you could come to ours and see what you have helped us acheive"

I can't remember if we sent off the letter or not :-/

Oh I like the idea of the book sleeve...and if we keep them small and maybe do a book cover that wouldn't be too time consuming...that would be fun!

The letter has not yet been sent because I was waiting for a blurb to be written up about SS and the FC. The person that was going to originally do it unfortunately no longer has time to do so. I've arranged for someone else to write the little info paragraph, so hopefully that will work out. But we can hold off on sending it out if you wish to include it in the event.

Completely up to you. I just thought that one way or another we could incorporate it into the celebrations somehow.

Another idea, but in the basic form, I just loved the post owl over valentines, where you were sent a few pms with info on and you have to trade with people to get more pms. We could limit the ones we send out to FC members to make it easier on ourselves and other people will have to trade etc. This may also prompt some people to join up to get the pms. Like I said, the idea is raw, but what do you think?

I had this idea about the Horcruzes last night whle I was trying to sleep. Let me know how it sounds:

We take the 7 pics and hide them around the site like we were going to do. Then, we link them to 7 different posts around the ste with little tid bits of Jo's work and acheivments. You know, you find a Horcrux, then clink on the link which would then act like a port key and take you to a post.

Now I haven't figured out how to make the post, I mean if we just posted a post then they'd automatically know where we posted and how. But if we edited some of our old posts then it would make it more interseting.
