ALL OFFICERS - I think now may be a good time to send out a really quick PM to the members, announcing the new officers (and current vacant positions) and maybe telling them we miss their input and would like them to come back! We also should start developing a new activity of some kind and maybe open up a new discussion. Let's start brainstorming!

what positions are open?

should we do something in October? i know many of the DE FC have things brewing.

a new discussion could be "Now what?" what do you think JK will do or should do with herself now that the HP books are done.

New activity? Better summon up that activities officer... Oh wait, that's me, isn't it?

... as for new activity, something for October should be good as our last one was in July. Maybe a Halloween Party - Jo Style? Games centered around Halloween feasts in Books 1-7, trivia from Halloween time in the books, a new discussion, etc.

OR ... we don't know what happened really during Halloween in Book 7, right? So what about if you have to write a brief scene (no more than 1000 words or something) about Halloween feast at Hogwarts that year, with Snape as Headmaster? And for those writing challenged people, there could be another one that is to illustrate the Feast on a graphic?

I like Tommy's idea for the discussion and I think we could definitely open that up next. I think we should also brainstorm a few more ideas for discussions to open after that one so we have a plethora to choose from in the future. Maybe we could have a discussion that focuses on the News articles that Gin puts up - people can comment on whatever Jo's been doing lately and it can just be a continuous discussion of one news article to the next - giving your opinions on it and whatnot.

I also like your ideas for activities Jess. I particularly like the scene re-write as well. I also had an idea that someone could re-write the Troll-in-the-Dungeon scene from Halloween in the first book but from the TROLL'S perspective! LoL! They say trolls are thick... it might be funny to hear what people think might be going through a troll's head. Maybe we could offer them a choice between rewriting the Book 7 vs. Book 1? Or maybe we could save one for something else (or make it a discussion lol).

I think that sounds like a good idea, we could have a separate discussion thread for that.

~Instead of Halloween, I think we should have something in November/December preparing for Beedle the Bard coming out, I think.

We could always run both an event in October and then one again Mid-novemeber into December. It doesn't have to be either/or but I LOVE that you're thinking into the future for Tales of the Beedle Bard. I think it is a great idea!

Is everyone ok with doing both? Or would you prefer to only do one? I think we're capable of running two events, maybe keeping one for October simple and then elaborating on a big event for Beedle. But you'll all be doing the work with me too, so I want to be sure you're all capable of doing and willing to do both

I agree on doing both, a mini for Halloween and then a big one for BtB. That sounds great.

OK folks, I think it is time to decide what our October event will be. I think we'll go with rewriting writing what they think the Halloween feast under Snape in Book 7 was like. I need someone to volunteer to do the write up for this event. It needs to describe the task we'd like the members to accomplish, the rules for the contest, who to send the PM to with their entry (PhoenixRising), and perhaps the type of prize we're offering to the winner.

This means we may need to develop the rules for the contest and determine the prize... ideas? Do we need a word limit (either a max or a min?) or are we going to let people write as much as they feel comfy with? Obviously all SS board rules apply, but are there any other rules you think are important? Please offer up your suggestions! We need to get this contest open very soon!

I think we should go with what the Feast was like under Snape. That should call for a lot of speculation, since we have the Carrows, no Dumbledore and also lots of rebellion.


For the rules, I think they should stick to the facts, meaning no one should be there if they really couldn't (like Harry, Dumbledore, etc).

I like the Snape feast idea. Gives a lot more scope, perhaps a bit of rebellion from the DA, who knows where their imagination might take them.

I am away for the next week (waiting for my ride now - so excited, Gran Canaria here I come), so cont really help with fine tuning til I get back. However, I think no word limit is cool, but let's stick to canon.

We need to open the contest ASAP if we're going to run anything in October. Can someone PLEASE volunteer to write up the explanation of the task at hand and the rules for the contest?

I'll have the writeup done by tomorrow night, Tiff... I'm at the library now and won't be back in my place until like 9pm tonight probably (of which i have like two other things to do tonight, though I may start it as soon as i get back tonight and just finish it tomorrow. We'll see)

What do you all think? Specifically of the prizes, which i just made up as no one contributed thoughts for the prize...

I think the write-up looks great and the prizes are good! (Though, we need to be sure that we have someon who will create all the graphics for those who participate)

(if no one else wants to make the graphics, then I'll do it... they shouldn't be too hard, since except for the grand prize maybe, all the same )
