Officers -

Here is a place of your very own to plan, plan, plan things! As of right now, this thread can be viewed by the entire FC, so no planning anything special and secret! That will still have to be done by PM! But, it is a great place for us to plan our FC newsletter that we can periodically send out to the FC members to let them know what's going on here and to increase activity! So, please check in and state your position, and then offer up your ideas for the newsletter and anything else you'd like to see for this fan club!

Please no off-topic chatting in the thread and no posting by non-officers and non-sponsors. Thanks!

One thing we need to include the newsletter would be the officer positions which are open currently. We can also include what is going on in the FC.

I definitely agree with that. I think we should write a little blurb about what positions are open and then include a link to the Announcement thread where the applications will be posted very soon (as in, before this newsletter goes out.) - Sponsors can take care of this one since we have the application made up and such.

I think we need to mention that member participation has been increasing but we still need more input to keep this FC running and to get our own full forum.

Also, we should mention everything we DO have going at this FC - especially the letter to Jo (with a link of course!) I think this is a high selling point because people really want to tell her how they feel! So this may be one of the first things in the PM. - Who wants to take on writing about this?

We could also write cute little blurbs about each of the sections of the FC we have going - like news, discussions (about how the first of a series of discussions has opened as well as what the discussions are about), graphics at the Illustrator's Office (we should probably get a few new graphics in there - maybe a bunch of avvies?), and then of course - the revolving games/chat/mini-discussion main thread of the FC.

With the closure of the Harry Potter series, as you can imagine, there has been awards given and much talk about the series and its characters. Here are just a few of the latest news items about Jo:

• J.K.Rowling is one of the many celebrities who have donated shoes for an exhibition to highlight the issue of domestic abuse.
• J.K.Rowling has been named Entertainer of the Year for 2007
• J.K.Rowling was recently honoured at the Writer's Guild awards for her Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Writing.
• J.K.Rowling is the most fascinating person of 2007.
• J.K.Rowling is to receive an honour at the upcoming South Bank Show awards for 'outstanding achievement'.
• And not to mention the moving quotes from the recent documentary J.K.Rowling...A Year in the Life, in which Jo speaks about her family life, the depression she suffered following her mother's death & the breakdown of her first marriage and the things fame has brought.

Jess, thank you so much for doing your part of the newsletter! I really appreciate it! I think you've done a wonderful job! I may cut the included news headlines in half so the members have something new to read when they come (we don't want them to get all their info from our newsletter ) and I'm going to add a direct link somewhere in there, but either way you've done great work!

There is a good chance I may need you to help out with other parts of the newsletter (but only if you have time and don't mind) since no one else has posted anything in this thread. Actually, can you do something about the birthdays that you're now taking over?? I'm hoping one or both of the co-presidents will take the reigns on this mini-project and work on some of the other parts, but since they haven't yet, you get first choice of any other part you'd like to help out with (if you choose to do so).

I can do the main thread and graphics. For the graphics you just want me to say something about what kind of graphics we have and what's to come?

Ari - no problem! I know you're super busy! Thanks for volunteering for those two sections.

For the graphics, that is exactly what I want you to do! Maybe re-mention that we need a graphics officer too somewhere toward the end of your paragraph (along the lines of, "and if you think you've got what it takes to be Jo's Illustrator and keep this graphics thread full of great images, perhaps you should apply for the position! But either way, feel free to contribute... blah blah blah" lol)

I can get some discussions. You won;t mind if i re-use some we already discussed, would you?

When you write up your paragraph on the discussions, mention the encyclopaedia one, and the series of literary discussions beginning on the books.

I think it best to leave the mini-discussions that we do with the main thread paragraph and include some of our best ones from the past in there because that is where they happen.

Everyone should be playing up the idea that if any members have any suggestions for the discussions, activities, graphics, etc. that they should come visit the FC and contribute!

We play games, such as the Elimination Game we have going now, and we have mini discussions (discussions which don't need their own thread) We can also chat for hours about the great work Jo has done in her many years as an author, what contributions she's done etc, all the while making long lasting friendships. So, why miss out on all the fun? Come on down!

You're probabvly asking yourself, "Where's the graphics at?" Well, the answer is in the Illistrators Office, the one thread where you can post your graphics, use graphics others have made and just have fun! If you're interested, which I know you are, become our amazing Graphics Officer. All you have to do is apply, what's the harm, right? Not only will you be helping make this club the best but you'll also be helping us promote the club at the same time! Sounds great right?

Discussions: Feel the desire to discuss your views on the current Encyclopaedia lawsuit that Jo has filed? Do you wish to share your opinions on the series as a literary work, providing commentary on what characteristics of the books you like/dislike and discussing character development and the numerous literary devices that Jo utilizes in her writing? If so, the Discussions in the JKRFC are exactly what you need! Currently open are the topic of the lawsuit and the literary analysis of books 1 and 2. The latter discussion is the first in a series of discussions that we will be having on the entire series. In addition to the larger discussions, we also regularly run mini-discussions in the Main Thread (see below) regarding a number of topics, some of which include: the new encyclopaedia that Jo is writing, Jo's life before she became famous, life during & after her work on the Harry Potter books, honors and awards that Jo has received, and Jo's charitable contributions to a variety of causes, among many other interesting topics!

I'm wracking my brain to try and think of something new. We could always discuss her recents awards she's recieved, though how many times can we actually do that.

Um, here's another: How do you think her children feel knowing that their mother has grown to be an international sucess? Or something along those lines.

Hmmm, I've been thinking about this for a while. What about a thread discussing all the rumors you hear about her and if they are true or not. I bet some people would be interested in that.

Eagle Princess: I really think that discussion topic would be a great idea. I mean wit out famous Jo is, she does a really great job keeping her family and personal life out of the media. I think a lot of members would have fun speculating.

Potter101: Again, I think this is a great idea for a topic. There are so many rumors that we hear about Jo so it could be really fun for the members to dissect some of these rumors.

I think I'd like to start a graphics contest sometime soon, perhaps with the winner getting a special nod in the newsletter, a special siggie for the first 3 places and whatnot. Also if we do have a graphics contest giving perhaps the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners a chance to be featured in the graphics thread with some of their favorite Jo related creations, etc. Something to get people involved and have fun!

Okay. For a graphics contest, I had an idea that we could have something like a tournament. Seeming there are 3 G.O.s, it will be quite easy for us to do. I think that sometime down the line we should do something along the tournament lines.

A normal graphics contest would be a nice activity to start out with, though.

I think the graphics contest would be a great idea. I think it could be good to get in advertised first to see if we could get a higher volume of active members.

As for discussions, how about "if you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?" I know we all think Jo did a great job, but I think everyone maybe had an idea or hope of where things were going that didn't turn out how they expected/ hoped. Perhaps a love interest or a death etc. I think it is something that everyone can contribute to as everyone will have a point of view, even if it is just "it was perfect they way it was."

I was thinking for activities, maybe start with having a get to know you thread, where perhaps every month we do an interview with a member of the FC and have a list of questions they will answer. I sometimes think that it can be a bit intimidating coming into a new club and knowing no one, so this might help. What do you think?


Edit - Oh, another thing that we could may be add - a members list so it can be updated with all members of the FC, and an introduction thread - somewhere you can post some details about yourself. This can be as brief or as descriptive as you want. wasn't sure how we are going about adding new threads and such due to activity levels. Do we have to get approval to add threads or do we just go ahead. I wasn't too sure due to a couple that were closed down last year.
