Gremlok Diagon Alley | Discussion #4 - Jo's Success This monkey is bananas.
Time for a new discussion. This is about Jo's success. Do you think she would have been successful if she tried to write a different set of novels or if she tried something completely different like drawing? What are your opinions on Jo's success. We all know she's amazing in the fact that she's done something we can only dream of, going out there and following our dreams. What do you think Jo was thinking as she finished Harry Potter: Philosophers Stone and handed it into publishing?
Discuss away my loverlies!

Well I know what she was thinking when she handed in that first copy of HP. "Oh my god I am finished and now are they going to love it?" I mean as I sit and write out my story that I hope people will love I think she felt the same thing. She is pouring her heart and soul into that book and she wanted the rest of the world to love the characters and the world she created as much as she did. She wanted them to fall into her world and lose themselves like she did.
Her success is the thing of dreams. No other author in the world or even history can boast of the success that she has attained. Only the Bible has sold more copies and had more printings than all of the HP books. The Bible is the only book that has been translated into more languages than HP. Those stats are something to be proud of.
I am not sure if she would have been just as successful writing another book to be honest. *shrugs* That is just me. I mean maybe if she were going to write other books she might change my mind, but she said if she wrote again it would be under another name. I feel like she doesn't have to write again, I mean she has more money than she can spend in one life time, but that is something she loves to do. Like I couldn't dream of a world where I had to stop cooking or writing either.
She is one of the few celebrities that I respect though. You never hear about her personal life on the cover of a tabloid magazine. She is not out partying and drinking and driving and all that craziness that these celebs are doing nowadays. She is acting like she has some home training. And she is giving back. She is remembering when her family was hanging on by a thread and about to fall part and someone had compassion on her. She is turning around and having compassion on others. Not saying that just because you are rich you have to give all your money away to those of us less fortunate. But it is nice that the poor don't have to support the poor all the time.

Do I think Jo would have been successful? I guess that depends on your definition of success. Do I think she would have reached the international level of fame and wealth doing something other than HP? Probably not. But that doesn't mean she wouldn't have been good and done moderately well with something else, perhaps a different set of novels. It is certainly possible she could have put out other books who might have brought her some financial gain and even national recognition, but I doubt anything other than HP would have brought her to the international level she's at currently.

I think Jo has a very creative mind, and if she had set out to write about another story, she probably would have made it as interesting, breath taking and awesome as the magical world of Harry Potter. To think that she made up all those numerous characters, places, spells, creatures and magic in HP all by herself, and added such a beautiful story to it...what could she have done with a different story?
I think Jo is an excellent author that would have been successful with anything she wrote, because her stories are interesting and they can capture the imagination of the readers very intensely. If she had written anything else with the same love and devotion that she put into Harry’s story then she would have been very successful as well.
After writing PS, I think Jo was very happy to put Harry’s story out there, but she was also anxious as to who would really read it and if the readers would love it as much as she did. I don’t think Jo would have even dreamt of being as successful as she is today. Hats off to Jo!

Rachel Rodriguez Magical Games & Sports | Inquisitive Joanne is a wonderful writer. Her writing touches everyone's heart. She is a very creative person. Having read her biography, I would say that she would have been a successful writer even if she had written another book. Joanne has always been creative and she wrote many stories when she was a child. She used to tell these stories to her younger sister, Dianne. Joanne has faced many difficulties when she was a struggling writer and I thing she truly deserves to be what she is now. Joanne's writing inspires me. If I could reach Joanne, I'd tell her that I think she is a fantastic writer and she should continue writing all kinds of books, but Harry Potter will always carry a special place in our hearts.
