Personally I think I'd only change like two things. I was a bit dissapointed with the fact that my house elfs weren't exaplained more in detail. I think there should have been more involvment with them, other than just the whole final battle thing. We didn't know they were thinking of doing it. Perhaps just a small paragraph (or chapter) describing how Kreacher got theem all to agree to fight.
Another thing I would change would be the professors. I didn't like the fact that all of a sudden all the professors went to help. I'm sue there would be bound to be one who would support him, even if only a small bit and the other professors had to help change the professors mind. Though that would change the whole story line too though... um yeah I'd also say how Gilderoy got our of St. Mungo's (if he did) I mean I'm sure he would have helped in the final fight right? Credit goes to ndebic for the discussion idea

I did love it and I think the characters were developed perfectly, however, I was a tad disappointed with a couple of sections
Spoiler (Hi light to read) The whole "Harry is a horcrux" was just too predictable. I remember arguing in the Flourish and Blotts threads that Jo wouldn't go down that route as it was too easy. So I was a bit disappointed (and ego a bit bruised) when I read that section.
I also would have like to have read more about what happened afterwards. The epilogue was just a bit too short for me. I wanted to know what came of certain people in the series and how the ministry changed afterwards. Maybe that will come in the encyclopedia.
It would have been cool if the teachers had been developed a bit more. You really only got to hear about Snape and Dumbledore, it would have been nice to know a bit more about McGonagall and Sprout and a few others.
I'm currently re-reading the series so I may be back with other things I've picked up and would tweak.

Jacob Webster International Cooperation | Feathery Thingywhatsit I would have loved to see more of Lily and James' relationship. How exactly did he win her over? And I agree, the epilogue was way too short. Also, I never did like calling the house elves "elves," because of how I see them from Lord of the Rings, and I love them in that. I've always had this idea that elves are elegant and beautiful and just a little bit scary, not little slaves.

I sort of agree with you but if they weren't little slaves then the story would be soo diffrent and i quite like it the way it is.

Me personally I would have loved to have seen more about Voldemort's rise to power (I'm a death eater at heart sorry!) I mean EVERY wizard was afraid of him, well except Dumbledore, so it would have been nice to have seen how he frightened an entire community you now.
Second I would have liked for there to have been a 8th book to explain how everything came about after the final battle. I mean it just seemed to to me that she threw that epilogue in there. Because she mentioned Teddy getting on the train or something, but Teddy was born 19 years ago. So why he is going to Hogwarts. It seems like that part was just put in there kind like she was trying to tie up loose ends. It didn't seem like she put as much effort into that as she did in the whole series. That is just me though.

If I could change one thing, I would have loved to have been able to give Snape a chance to live, plus I would want more explained about him. The part where Harry gets to see his memories in the pensieve was great, but there is so much more I would still like to know about him. I would have loved to have seen a chance to Harry and Snape to maybe bond a bit, his death was very, very hard for me to take. (Not that there weren't other deaths that were very hard, there were, but I'm allowed only one thing!)

I'd like to know more about Ernie Macmillan.
Plus the whole Harry defeating Voldemort was such an obvious thing. I know that some think that Harry being the Chosen One was alright, but I would've made it so much more interesting and have Neville somehow being the Chosen One. Maybe it's just because I love Neville way more than Harry.

I really love how she ties everything up in the book, I think that everything happened perfectly and I wouldn't change a thing. Except for the epilogue, she should have included more on the future of everyone, including all the DA members and Order members, we really want to know how their futures were.

I would have love to change that epilogue! Thats just the one thing about that book that I was not crazy about that. Well other than the fact that she killed off Fred and Dobby and Tonks and Lupin!

I would like to change the point of view also. I mean we all love Harry but it would have been nice to read Draco's or Ron's point of view. I mean we got a good insight into the charries thru Harry's eyes but it would have rocked to see Harry thru their eyes you know.

^ This discussion is about what we would change if we were writing the book. There are no rules or limitations, so if someone says they would change the POV if they were the author, they're entitled to do so!
I think it would be kinda cool to have the story from another person's perspective, IN ADDITION to Harry's... maybe in a separate book or compilation of short stories. Maybe we should write them for an event/contest in this FC ...

If we were writing a book named Harry Potter and..., it wouldn't make sense to write in other's POV, that's just my opinion.

I understand where you're coming from, but the point is that this thread is to allow each member's imagination to run free and any comment that inhibits and restricts that imagination really isn't what we're aiming for here. We don't want to tell anyone that their idea doesn't /couldn't work, because the reality of the situation is that none of us will actually get to make these changes, but it is something we would LIKE to change. So why be restricted by reality when we can enjoy the fantasy? Fantasy is so much more fun, after all!
Maybe I'll change the book title of Half Blood Prince to 'Draco Malfoy and the Dark Mark." After all, if I was the author, I could do whatever I wanted if it were my book, right?

Hogwarts RPG Name: Winnie Ferguson Fifth Year | *snortles* What would I change...
- No dead Dobby. I loved him sooo much
- When the Dursleys leave in DH, I would have had Petunia say something to Harry. ANYTHING, you know? As much as she tries to fight it, she cares for him, she's watched him grow up, and I would've liked her to shelve her pride for FIVE SECONDS and say something to him.
- More for the oddballs like Luna and Neville. As much as Harry lacked in life, neither of them had a Hermione or a Ron.
- I wish Harry had opened the mirror that Sirius had given him. If he had, it's still kinda possible that he would run off to save him, but to have Harry open it after he was sorta responsible for Sirius' death? Breaks my heart every time.
I might think of more

That was probably the saddest moment in that book, when he realized. *sigh* I wonder how everything would've gone if Sirius had stayed alive...

- BWAHA! Nice call with the oddballs...
- And MEE TOOO!!! I always wondered what would have happened had Harry not been so stubborn and just opened the mirror. *sniffles* But at the same time, I imagine that no matter what, it was necessary for Sirius to die. For one, all the marauders died by the seventh book... and for two, all of Harry's "role models" also died. He had received all the guidance needed and now with his friends help, just needed to use his knowledge but also his gut instincts... And not sure if that really made much sense, but yea |
