Great job Melissa!
What I find very fascinating about Italy is it's history. I went to Italy when I was younger and I was in awe of the artwork, the buildings, the cities - everything. Places in America have not been around for even a fraction of the time some of the monuments in Rome have.

Brilliant idea!
I agree with Lissy. I adore Italy for her history. There's so much that has been known to scholars, and yet there are still so many more things being discovered every day!
And of course, how can I not love her cities? As a child, cities were always considered to be like New York, but when I was allowed to roam the streets of Rome by myself, I thought, "This is a city. This is where life blossoms."
I've never been big on fashion, though I will agree with Melissa *alohamora* - it's breath taking. Milan's too much of a high classed place for me, but I'd still love to visit it again.

The beaches. Cervia has the most beautiful sandy beaches, while in Naples you find vulcanic beaches with black sand and clear water and in Calabria the sand is actually small rocks.
I love Venice, for it's uniqueness, where else can you find a city where the roads are water. I love Rome and Pompei for it's history, you can touch the buildings and know they are over 2000 years old... I love Florence for it's art, and Bologna for it's food...
But most of all I love the sense of family and love the people emanate. I was born and raised there, and I had to leave to come to America with my parents when I was 16... and I haven't felt that love here. People are more guarded, while in Italy they are more open.

So... first thing I love abut Italy: I'm Italian!
Then, it's the country where you can find like 60% or something more of all the world's historical art... which is not a little thing
Then, there's the food, how could one forget that?
Or simply the places: cities, mountain, sea, hills... everything
Oh, well, if you care about it, I live in a town I'm sure you don't know... Gorizia, in the north-east, at the border with Slovenia. Well, during the week I actually live in Milan, because I am at my first year of university here!
Something great in my town? Winessssss! |

Ciao!
Ohhhh I love Italy so much, I have only been there once but any time I am back in Europe I am def. staying in Italy. Even though I had some scary times there, the good times make up for it!
Has anyone been to Riomaggiore ? If you haven't and you get a chance do it! It is one of the towns of Cinque Terra (sp) I <3 it so much because of the locals and the view is awwwwwwwww I can't describe how wonderful it is..... *sigh* I wish I were there daily....
Any ways what I like about Italy in general is 1. How laid back the culture is- like how people have the additude we will get it done when we feel like it, Americans are just to rushed....
2. Some of the food Like the bread and the gelato--- *meep* I could eat only bread and gelato and I would be happy.
3. The fashion-- the cheap and the expensive, I love to look at the women looking fresh and not out of place at all when it is 95 deg. out side and the humidity is so high how do they do it? Cheap side of clothing in Italy-- I bought a bathing suit for $1
4. The history, It is cool that you can walk the same streets and touch the same buildings that the people you read about in books touched too! Like ____ was here and so am I.
5. Art-- It's every where, every where I looked there was another statue or something....
6. Beaches---Lets just say some good times where had on the beaches.....
I could go on but that is a rundown of my <3 for Italy.....now if I could just get the language down....

Chocolate, since you weren't sure about the spelling... almost right, it's Cinque Terre (5 lands)!
I'm just noticing a thing, most of the people who aren't from Italy and like it, always nominate Rome, Florence and Venice as examples Well, of course they're the most known cities, but every place has something to see in Italy... As the "Cinque Terre" mentioned above, for instance...
So, some places to visit for you:
In the north, if you like mountains, there is a kind of mountains which is unique in the world, the Dolomites... they originated by an arcipelagus just like the Bermudas are today... They're the famous "red mountains", because at dawn or sunset they become of a "fire-red" colour (an EXAMPLE HERE). In no other place in the world has happened something like this.
The Dolomites are in the central area of northern Italy, in the regions of Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige.
Then, in my region you can find the "Carso", which is the region which gave name to the carsic phenomena ( EXAMPLE OF CARSIC AREA), just one example is the "Grotta Gigante", the greatest cavern in the world. near Trieste ( PHOTO HERE, looks like Gringott's cave ).
Well, that could be enough for the moment, so let's say this is "A look at Italy - North - Part 1", lol!!!
Anyway, the Dolomites zone, in Trentino Alto Adige, is the place where I was born, while Friuli Venezia Giulia, where you can find the "Carso", is the part of Italy where I live... just on weekends, now, because I'm studying at university in Milan (soon on part 2 )

She said that even though Venice is portrayed to be really beautiful, it's a bit dirty and it's smelly because of the canals. I'd like to judge that for my self someday. I've gotten rather Italy-obsessed from my favorite book, 'The Thief Lord.' And of course, I absolutely love the accents that Italians have. I can't explain it, but a lot of girls near me find Italian men smexy. XD

i went to itlay two years ago with my school but it was onyl for a month. I'm hoping to study there for a year as part of my uni course. I really want to spend more time in rome - there are so many things to see, i am fascinated by roman history and how things have survived for thousands of years since the roman republic and then the roman empire.
I also really want to improve my italian and i think that the only way i can do that now is by going there.

O_O how can you say we make the best pasta? It's kind of obvious, since we invented the kind of pasta which is now used in all the world!!!
(I know that maybe it was China that invented "pasta" in general, that's why I specified, italian pasta is different )
Oh, Btw, I was just thinking about which kind of pasta I could prepare this evening... lol
