So, these, of course, will be about James Potter sr. And his friends. And his adventures around Hogwarts & in his life. There isn't going to be any sort of chronological order to these because Karen's brain gets crazy and structure is boring~ anyway. Sirius shook his head slowly and nudged Potter's arm."Muggle Studies?"

James squirmed away, wrinkling his nose in protest. "Yes, Muggle Studies. I…happen to like Muggles and their...studies." There was snickering and then a sudden dramatic cough; he narrowed his eyes at Remus.

His cheeks flushed a faint pink. “I just want to broaden my horizons, Sirius.”

"Three Sickles say he's doing this to get Lily Evans' attention."

He opened his mouth to protest, when the familiar red-head passed their table. James felt his mouth go dry and lowered his head in embarrassment.

“So predictable, it’s pathetic! Now, pay up, Peter.”

F L O B B E R W O R M

Principles.


Leaning back in his chair, James brought his foot lazily to nudge Peter's sleeping form. His face was plastered to the table, and he drooled on James' parchment. A frown settled on his lips. James pinched Peter’s cheek, waking the shorter boy.

Grunting, Peter wiped his mouth, frowning right after.

“Don’t give me that look. You’ve ruined my nearly perfect essay.”

Remus snorted and cleared his throat right after.

“James, that’s ridiculous. You haven’t even written two sentences.”

Hazel orbs widened, James pouted. “But Moony, writing about Flobberworms and their edibleness is boring.”

Shaking his head, Remus muttered quietly: “Imbecile.”

C O M M O N R O O M

Apology.


"Oi, Potter, got a minute?"

Hazel orbs glance up quickly and meet the expecting gaze of Marlene McKinnon. James shifts uncomfortably on the loveseat, wondering why she's choosing to speak to him after hours.

Marlene sits down next to him and tucks a few strands of hair behind her ear.

"Sirius is upstairs, if you want me to get him," James offers, uncertain if he should be conversing with her or not.

"No, no. I wanted to speak to you," she says, a sad smile on her lips. “I made a mistake.”

He sighs softly.

“I know.”

R O O M

Change of Pace.



"The view's really nice, actually. And you won't have to worry about dressing nice."

I bounced into the room as he placed his bag onto the floor.

"Mum and Dad don't do formal dinners, except when we're eating with the Turners, which, according to Mum, requires formal dress."

I nudged him gently with my elbow. “Mum’s cooking may be horrid, but at least her pies are to die for, yeah?” He walked towards the open window and sighed deeply.

I suddenly felt unneeded and turned to face the corridor.

“Well…If you need me, Padfoot, just give me a shout, okay?”

H O G S M E A D E

Captain Obvious.


"But, Moony, he's not even human!"

I felt a sharp jab at my sides and winced just as Remus cleared his throat.

"That's a slanderous and mildly inappropriate comment, James."

Sirius stuck his tongue out at Remus.

"It's not like she really likes him anyway," I said confidently. "I mean, we talk talk, y’know."

To my surprise Peter scoffed and pointed to the table behind us. "Well, she's laughing with him right now. That has to mean something."

Eyes wide, I turned around, a frown settling on my lips.

“Just a pity date,” I said quietly. “It has to be.”

Q U I D D I T C H

Of Trolls & Things.

There were four things that annoyed James severely; three of them had to do with Snape, and the other one dealt with poor Quidditch skills.

"GOOD GRIEF, DAVIES, ARE YOU TRYING TO LOOK PATHETIC ON PURPOSE?” he exclaimed, shaking his head as he motioned for the team to stop practicing.

Jaw set, she took James' jab silently, bright blue eyes staring up at him defiantly. Bliss Davies was the first to protest.

"You've got us working like trolls, Potter."

Eyes narrowed, James took three large steps towards the girl, frowning. “At least trolls don’t complain; they grunt and keep moving.”

K N E A Z L E

Excuses.

The boy shook his head, brows sloped down in frustration.

His scowl was frightening. It wasn't like the disappointed look Mum gave me whenever I broke something at home; this was different. I felt the annoyance reach deep inside me and it struck me as odd that an eleven year old could be so severe.

"But, Lupin, I said sorry. I didn't know Luke was just a cat, he looks just like the Kneazle my—”

"Just, stay away from me, and my cat, alright?"

As he walked away, I stuck my tongue out behind his back. “What a prat.”

W H O M P I N G W I L L O W

Challenge Rejected.

Slowly, James inched his way towards the Whomping Willow. He eyed his nemesis with a defiant gaze, and placed his tanned hands onto his hips. Chin tilted slightly upward, he scoffed at the potentiality of him getting hurt.

He started to walk closer the tree when a voice pierced through his thoughts.

“TWENTY POINTS FROM GYFFINDOR! POTTER, I’VE TOLD YOU COUNTLESS TIMES: NEVER. GO NEAR. THAT. TREE. ”

He groaned, and pursed his lips, glancing at Professor McGonagall innocently, hoping to dodge any incoming punishment.

“But Miggyyy,” he whined. “That’s twenty points too many.”

Her upper lip twitched menacingly. “Detention, Potter.”

D E P R E S S I O N

It's Not That Bad.

Forehead pressed firmly against the window, the crumpled letter fell from his hands, touching his leg briefly hitting the ground. There were things that James could deal with. He could deal with Peter wanting to ride his new broom. He could deal with Sirius punching him as he pleased. He could deal with Remus constantly correcting his conduct.

He could not, however, deal with rejection.

The glass felt surprisingly comforting; frigid and hard against his skin. Eyes closed, he imagined his heart falling out of his chest; dry and shriveled, gasping for another chance.

“Time for a change,” he said.

F I G H T

Names Are Useless.


“Merlin! Get off! Get off him, Potter, now!”

Hands. Thin, soft hands, pull me off of the thin and wraith-like form on the ground. Her hands leave me to go tend to the other boy. They tremble at the sight of his swollen lip but she caresses his cheek anyway.

“Y-you…shouldn’t have d-done that.” Hiccups escape her mouth as I stand up. Confused, shaky; I move anyway.

“Evans, He called you a dirty name,” I say slowly, breathing uneven.

Moisture collects around her light green eyes. Quietly, she says: “Monster.”

I wipe my fist on my robes. “He deserved it.”

Innocence Unknown.

The house elf clutched her ears fearfully, pressing them closer to her face. Large, bulbous eyes gawked at her young master’s menacing stance. Her lower lip quivered and her knees clumsily bumped into each other as she remained glued to her spot.

“You know what happens now, Tilly?”

She shook her head, whimpering before James brought his wand to prod the house elf gently in the chest.

“Well?”

Silence. James smiled brightly before suddenly wincing. His mother pulled his arm and plucked the wand from his hand. She dragged him away, muttering to herself.

“But Mummm… I was only teasing!”

P A R S E L T O N G U E

When Boredom Hits.


There was knocking on the door, but James refused to answer it. His door flew open and Peter skipped inside, a large, ancient book in his hand.

“James, look. Looook!”

He remained still, silently willing Peter to go away. The shorter boy pounced on top of James, using him as a pillow as he read aloud.

Groaning, James tried to block out Peter’s voice.

“Did you know that Parselmouths don’t just speak to snakes, they can also—”

James shimmied out from under Peter, and laughed when his friend fell onto the floor.

“Shut it, Peter, I’m trying to sleep.”

C L A S S R O O M

Change of Heart.



This is ridiculous. When Mum and Dad said that school would be enlightening and enriching, they failed to mention the boring part.

I can’t focus.

There are too many words being said and the professor refuses to slow down for me because I am ‘Holding the class back’, or something like that.

Oh, wait. That’s the red-head from earlier. Peh. I’ll bet she’s going to ask some obnoxious question about the uses of potions in Muggle society.

Heh heh heh. And she’ll probably ask for extra homework so she can do extensive research.

Merlin.

Her voice is beautiful.

Misunderstanding.



Glasses askew, James Potter felt horrible. He was sprawled out on Sirius’ bed, dramatically complaining of his stomach ache. There were about twenty candy wrappers around him, seven of which were from large chocolate bars.

“Now, please, for my own sanity, explain why you had to eat all those in one sitting?”

Attempting a brave feat, James struggled to sit up.

“You wouldn’t understand, mate,” he blubbered, chocolate stains temporarily marking his cheeks and lips. “She didn’t even acknowledge my gifts or notes…”

Sirius’ left eye twitched. “So you ate them? Merlin, you’re turning into a whiny girl.”

T H E S T R A L S

Better Off Alone.




He sits, back against a tree, knees brought to his chest, arms cradling them tightly. A rain drop caresses his cheek tenderly. More follow suit, and within a minute, he is soaked from the storm. His jet-black mane sticks to his face; the rain blurs his vision, and he can’t tell if he’s crying.

Comfort is reached by him nuzzling his head closer to his arms.

Movement. The sound of broken leaves and twigs grabs his attention. He lifts his head, hazel eyes trying to make out the dark creature. It nods to its companion.

He’s no longer alone.

H O G W A R T S , A H I S T O R Y

There Goes the Neighborhood.



“BAH! THIS BOOK IS USELESS! HOGWARTS SHOULD LEARN TO BE LESS CONCEITED.”

He slams the book on the table in a melodramatic fashion. Angry whispers surround him and he rolls his eyes.

“A library, Potter, is something that only those with enough intellect and wit should be allowed to use.”

The Slytherin’s lips curl into an unwelcoming smile. “Why don’t you go fly on your little stick and grunt like the other brutes.”

Snape walks away and James sticks his foot out. Triumphant, he laughs when the boy trips, dropping his quills and parchment.

“Oops, so sorry.”

D A R E

New Target.



The dungbombs were a success, but James wanted more. He walked through the corridors swiftly, bumping into a few third years, muttering an apology only when he felt like it.

His adrenaline rush was dying down and he needed to keep his mind active. A flash of green caught his eyes; he pulled the familiar dark-haired Slytherin aside.

“Reggie,” James drawled, friendly as ever. “Have I told you that I sometimes like you more than Sirius?”

The younger boy squirmed under James’ grip.

“I want to play a game with you.”

Regulus froze; he knew how this would end.

D R E S S R O B E S

Hideous.




“Oh, Jamesypoo, Darling, you look smart in your father’s robes,” his great-aunt squealed.

He resisted the urge to gag and drop to the floor, writhing in disgust at the formality of the party.

“James, fix that pout, we have guests,” his mother reminded him.

Resigned, the boy fixed his tie and looked around for some pastry or drink to spill on the hideous robes.

Luckily, Sirius’ family had ‘prior engagements’. There was no way he could deal with his best mate’s comments over his outfit.

“Maybe, if I’m lucky, Aunt Burtice will choke and the party will end.”

Riot.



“Alright, alright, explain it one more time?”

Her hands slapped mine away as I tried to steal her notes once more. Her light green eyes held that same stern look that Remus had whenever I was in trouble.

“Listen, Potter, it’s simple: Muggles use cars for transportation.”

I pressed my lips together and tried to picture the mechanics of it. “And this one is your favourite?” I motioned to the picture of the ‘Ford Anglia’—as Lily called it—glued to the back of her notebook.

She dropped her voice to a low whisper, “It’s my dream car.”

C A U L D R O N

It's Your Fault.



“Wait wait wait, Peter, wait I said!”

Too late. He already dropped the asphodel into the cauldron. Idiot. Now we’re both going to fail. I bite my lower lip and move closer towards Remus and Sirius’ cauldron.

“Psst. Moony, Mooonnyyy.”

I nudge him with my shoulder. “Psst, Moony, listen we need you—”

A shadow looms over us. Slughorn. I try to sound sweet and cordial. “Why, Professor didn’t see you come over. Why, that is a smart pair of glasses you have on, Sir.”

He points and I slink back to Peter, who is covered in green slime.

B O R E

Unheard Sarcasm.



Several minutes later, she’s still talking. Her eyes light up at the sight of his tiny, polite smile. She continues to yap about her fabulous time over the winter holiday. He simply could care less. Still, she has pretty eyes, and bouncy hair, and her teeth are straight.

All fine qualities, sure.

If only she could work on her conversational skills.

“Isn’t that so funny?” She asks, and he nods. Not because he cares, but because heard a rumour about Lily Evans hating the girl. He sits up, and flashes her a grin.

All gentleman-like: “Please, tell me more.”

I G N O R E

It'll Pass.



As an only child, he should have been used to being alone. To being cooped up in his room, curled under his covers, curtains drawn. To having his heart stomped on by a certain red-head. To spending nights awake, while his best mates slept.

He slipped his arm out and reached under his bed. He pulled out a small box and cradled it to his chest. Sliding the lid off, James plucked the smooth fist-sized rock from the box.

He pressed the cool object to his cheek and hugged his pillow closer.

“Remus will forgive me, right Wormtail Jr?”

N A P

Furious.



The rock fell from his hand. The sound of its collision with the floor forced James to wake up. Alarmed, he rubbed his eyes, wondering where his pet rock was.

“Whawhahappen?” he inquired sleepily and fumbled around for Wormtail Jr.

He found the rock and was about to fall back asleep when he noticed the blemish on its surface.

“WHO DREW A MUSTACHE ON WORMY’S FACE? WHO?” he questioned loudly, earning him stares from the rest of his peers.

He rubbed furiously at the ink and pouted when it wouldn’t come off.

“Padfoot,” he said solemnly, and frowned deeply.

Stealthy..Or Not.

Early is on time, on time is late, and late is never acceptable.

Or, whatever Remus Lupin said to me the other day; I can’t bother to keep up with him these days. He gets so touchy whenever I try to pet his cat and since he simply refused to let me borrow his notes, I had to stay up doing homework, and now am late for class.

Binns will murder me if I don’t make it on time.

I slip into class as stealthily as possible.

“Potter, ten points from Gryffindor.”

Of course. I’ve been caught.

Q U E L L

Nerves.



Laughing, James felt his stomach continue to churn. He was anxious and afraid. What if she turned him down? She would. She would turn him down and he would punch Sirius and ignore Peter for their suggestion.

But if he didn’t ask her, he’d never know. He’d forever dream about the day he never asked Lily to accompany him to Hogsmeade. He’d always regret being too coward to step up and snatch her from Snape’s clutches.

“Quidditch, in comparison, is harder mate,” Sirius offered.

Remus shrugged. “Chances are, James, she’ll say no. But, at least, you’ll still have us.”
