I'm Anna, and this is my first attempt at writing drabbles. Luna is one of my top three Harry Potter characters (Snape and Hermione are the other two), and I thought it'd be fun to try and capture her uniqueness in a collection of drabbles. I hope you enjoy them!

One and the Same
7. Care of Magical Creatures
As the lily pad continued to float down the pond, the girl that sat atop it cried out to the creatures around her. Her research, as reported in The Quibbler, proved that imitating the sounds of magical creatures would protect a person from the dangers those creatures were capable of.

It wasn’t a lesson that would be taught in Care of Magical Creatures class anytime soon, but Luna imagined it was never too late to become one and the same with a Blibbering Humdinger.

“Farewell, Humdinger,” she called to it, as she stepped onto the bank. “Oooh, look, Harry Potter!”

In the End
96. Socks

As she entered the third floor corridor, the very sight of them took Luna by surprise. They were just as she remembered---long, fluffy, and white. The last time she saw them was just before Christmas, when she’d left them tossed across her bed.

Now today, the last day of school, she finds them dangling from a rafter just above the door to a classroom. Her socks---lost, lonely, and almost forgotten. Everything really did turn up in the end. She shrugged and headed down to have some pudding while she waited for her shoes to turn up, as well.

Drowning in the Rain
65. Ooze

As the light rain poured down around her, Luna Lovegood sat happily in a large mud puddle. She scooped up a handful of mud and stared closely at it as she let it ooze through her fingers. “Seven,” she said aloud, as she plucked something from it and placed it into a small bucket just beside her. “Eight,” she said, just a moment later.

As she walked back to the castle, bucket in hand, she smiled blissfully as she thought about what she’d done. “Even the flobberworms deserve to be saved from drowning in the rain,” she thought to herself.

The Odd One Out
99. Newspaper

Even though she was hidden behind an upside down copy of The Quibbler, Luna was very much aware that the Weasley boy was staring at her. Being stared at was quite common for Luna, so she simply ignored the attention and went on reading about the latest collection of moon frogs.

“Does it bother you, Luna, that people think you’re a bit odd?” Ron asked.

The newspaper lowered, revealing Luna’s dreamy, thoughtful expression. She tilted her head this way and that way until an answered occurred to her. “No. They don’t realize their Aquavirius Maggots have been infested with Wrackspurts.”

How Unfortunate
94. Allergic

I noticed him at some point during Potions class on Monday afternoon. He introduced himself as a transfer student from the country of Sweden.

He smiled as he extended his hand. I sneezed in reply.

I saw him two other times that day, and I sneezed at least once during each encounter.

That night, as I sat by the warm fire, I considered why I was sneezing each time I encountered him.

I consider it quite unfortunate that I’ve suddenly come to the conclusion I could possibly be allergic to the Crumple-Horned Snorkack that is native to his home country.

A Bunch of Wrackspurts
25. Sorting Hat

“Lovegood, Luna.”

I approached the small, brown stool with a content sigh and a dreamy smile. I wasn’t nervous at all. If anything, I was blessed to understand that when this was all over, I’d belong somewhere. Being in a house would be like having…siblings.

When my turn was over, and I was at the Ravenclaw table thinking of pudding, an older boy leaned over and whispered, “Look at ‘im. He’s a nervous wreck, that one.”

I barely blinked as I remarked, “I’d be nervous, too, if all the sorting hat found in my head was a bunch of Wrackspurts.”

A Candy Trap
88. Sweet Tooth

Harry Potter was walking with me that day, and I could tell by the expression on his face that he had absolutely no idea what I was up to.

I came to a sudden halt and placed yet another jelly slug on the ground at my feet, not even aware that Ronald Weasley was just behind me, scooping up the candy to treat his sweet tooth. “Exactly what are you doing again, Luna? Feeding the---what?” he asked, staring in horror at the nearly inedible slug.

“…the Crumple-Horned Snorkack. Perhaps they’ll migrate here if they know there’s candy,” I responded.

Luna's Little Secret
95. Snowball

From inside the bushes, I quietly listened to the scene I’d accidentally stumbled upon…

“I believe you, Harry. I always have,” Ginny was saying. I nodded along as if I was standing right there, even though neither had any idea I was around.

“You know, you’re the first to actually come right out and say that---aside from Ron and Hermione,” Harry joked.

I really should have had more self control, but…the snowball was formed and out of my hands before I could think about what I was doing.

"Who’s there?” Harry asked, jumping up, his wand at the ready.

Castle Invasion
32. Common Room

No amount of Blibbering Humdingers and Crumple-Horned Snorkacks could save me now. I was running through the Forbidden Forest, an enemy right on my tail, and all I had with me was the power of my own magic…

…and a chocolate chip cookie I’d been eating when the castle was invaded.

I remember it flying out my hand when I was shoved to the ground, a wand at my throat within seconds. I cried out into the night, but it was too little…too late.

I woke shortly afterwards in the safety of the common room.

“Only a dream,” I muttered.
