“What do you think, Marshmallow?” Ryoma asked setting a few large pink seedpods in front of the cat that glowed softly.

Marshmallow waddled over to the plant and sniffed it and immediately flopped onto his side from the unpleasant smell. Marshmallow looked back and forth between the plant and Ryoma. The plant did look rather squishy... With one of his little white paws, Marshmallow swiped at the plant, knocking it over.

The glowing beans inside the pod rolled across the counter and instantly flowered where they stopped. Startled by this transformation, Marshmallow slipped off the counter and into the sink.

ღ 2 Muggle Studies

Marshmallow sat on counter looking at Ryoma longingly. The tiny white kitty’s small stomach growled loudly, but apparently it wasn’t loud enough for Ryoma to hear. Marshmallow flopped onto his side and pawed at Ryoma’s fingers as he dusted the counter.

“Aw, alright,” he laughed scratching the cat on the belly.

Alright, meow and pawing means he is going to get scratched.

Marshmallow sat on his hind legs and yowled as he pawed at a large bowl. Ryoma looked at the cat and then back at the bowl. “You hungry?”

Marshmallow yowled again and Ryoma filled the bowl with milk.

ღ 3 Transfiguration

ღ There is no more intrepid explorer than a kitten. ღ

Marshmallow had been feeling sluggish and his little kitty paws were struggling to carry his fluff.

Lying on his side, Marshmallow’s fluffy ears perked up when he heard footsteps and he rolled onto his stomach when he saw Ryoma carrying a bowl of milk. Ryoma set it on the counter and Marshmallow marched over to it.

“Evanesco.”

The bowl was gone and the kitty turned around in circles looking for it.

There it was!

He waddled over to it again.

“Evanesco.”

Now it was on the opposite side of the table.

“Sorry buddy, but you’ve got to get exercise somehow.”

ღ 4 Ancient Runes

ღ I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom of cats is infinitely superior ღ

Wiggling his bottom, Marshmallow got ready to pounce on the strange rock one of the customers had dropped in the shop earlier that day. The rock, being round in nature, had always seemed to escape his little furry paws.

But not this time.

Scooting a little closer to the rock, keeping his body down so low that he was doing a little bit of cleaning as he did, he waited…NOW!

Marshmallow pounced on the rock, which shot off in the opposite direction, hit a bucket of ashes from the fireplace, and showered the kitty. Now he was a grey mess.

ღ 7. Care of Magical Creatures

ღ There is, incidently, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person ღ

Marshmallow wandered the floor of the Leaky Cauldron looking for something to play with when he saw a strange box under one of the tables.

He walked towards it and jumped backwards when he saw another white cat. Marshmallow sniffed the box but smelled only metal. He pawed at it and was startled when the other cat mimicked him. Squeaking, Marshmallow saw the other cat open its mouth, but no sound came out.

He pawed at the box sadly. Some horrible person had trapped their cat in this magic box. This was no way to take care of a pet!

ღ 9 Defense Against the Dark Arts

It was coming closer now, the eight-legged creature that had been terrorizing the sink area for weeks now. Every morning Ryoma had to use a towel to swat away the web made by the monster, taking away ten precious seconds that could be used scratching.

Today was going to be different. Marshmallow situated himself on the rim of the sink, standing on his hind legs with his forepaws up in the air ready to squish the scary bug. He hissed at the bug, but it sounded more like a wheeze.

He swiped his paw and…SPLAT!

Now the sink was safe.

Marshmallow wasn’t sure what the stack of papers with lots of small numbers written on it was all about, but he did know that Ryoma made a face at them every time he looked at them. Clearly, this meant that these papers made Ryoma sad, and when Ryoma was sad, Marshmallow was too.

Ryoma smacked his head against the table and groaned. Marshmallow toddled over to the papers and climbed on top of them. Surprisingly, they were rather comfortable. Marshmallow used his small claws and began to fluff the papers.

Hearing the scratching of the paper, Ryoma looked up. “Marshmallow!”

What WAS this strange black and white paper sitting on the counter? Marshmallow had seen paper before, but none that was of this texture and rolled up in a narrow cylinder. Marshmallow sniffed it and sneezed before rolling backwards a few inches.

Having now regained his paws, he looked at the paper and swiped at it. The paper rolled a few inches forward. Marshmallow pawed at is some more before rolling onto his back. Soon the paper was a mauled mess. Ryoma noticed the pieces of paper flying all over the counter.

“What’s wrong? Financial news too tough to swallow?”

ღ 98 Pajamas

ღ As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human kind ღ

Marshmallow was not a happy cat. Even his fur that was usually as fluffy as a cotton flower seemed to be drooping as he sat on the edge of the bed looking at partly opened window that was allowing the fresh night air in.

Squeaking, he looked down at his paws that had been stuffed into foreign objects referred to as “booties.” Whatever they were, they were uncomfortable and made it very difficult to walk in. Noticing his reflection in a mirror, Marshmallow flopped onto his side.

When did he become a doll? This certainly was not the cat’s pajamas.

ღ Cats never strike a pose that isn't photogenic ღ

Marshmallow pawed at Ryoma’s sleeve as he read a book on the table. The cat’s first winter was proving to be a cold one, and all Marshmallow wanted to do was curl up in a ball under the strange glowing light his master was using to read whatever it was he was reading.

There was a knock at the door, and Ryoma got up to investigate.

It didn’t take more than a second for Marshmallow to realize that this was his chance. Jumping up onto the table, his claws caught in a few pages of the book, ripping them out.

Why had he convinced himself to explore that strange opening? Now he had himself stuck in a world that was itchy and lime green. The space was too narrow for him to move and his fluffy fur was pressed against him to the point where fur was covering his face and couldn’t tell which direction was up and which was down.

Rolling around like some fuzzy burrito, Marshmallow squeaked loudly and hoped that Ryoma would hear him.

“Hey buddy,” the man laughed pulling the fuzzy prison off him. “I thought I told you to stay out of my sock drawer.”

ღ people who hate cats, will come back as mice in their next life ღ

Marshmallow had found what he thought was the perfect place to curl up for an afternoon nap. The texture of the object he had climbed into was not smooth like the usual pots and pans he napped it, but it was cool like stone.

The cat found it strange that his master had left the object sitting on the stove, but he assumed that Ryoma did so since it was one a spot he often passed by during his morning inspection of the counter.

Curling up in a ball, Marshmallow began to fall asleep when…it began to feel awfully warm...

Suddenly, the small space Marshmallow had curled up in became very dark. Marshmallow couldn’t be sure, but he swore he heard his name and the fluffy white kitten began to paw at the dark surface as his tail began to feel uncomfortably warm.

Suddenly, the space was filled with light as Ryoma removed the top.

“MERLIN’S UNDERPANTS!”

Marshmallow followed Ryoma’s gaze to his tail and, before the cat could react, was plunged into the cold water filling the sink. Fur singed, the cat supposed he should be grateful that just the tip of his tail’s fur had been burned off.

ღ 5 Astronomy

Flopping onto his side, Marshmallow surveyed the almost empty Leaky Cauldron seating area. Things were so much slower without the young ones around. They worshiped him and always gave him undivided attention just like the Aztec’s jaguar god Tezcatlipoca. Marshmallow may be fluffy and pathetic, but he had quickly become the unofficial mascot of the Leaky Cauldron.

Squeaking softly, Marshmallow rolled onto his back and turned his round head to look out the window where he could see the constellation Leo. Why did that lion deserve a place in the heavens? All it had done was be defeated by Hercules.

Marshmallow studied the mass of green that lay before him on the table. There were flecks of something brown in it and a strong smell that reminded the cat of the mouth wash Ryoma always used in the morning.

“You want to try some buddy?” Ryoma grinned scooping a small spoonful and popping it in his own mouth. Marshmallow purred and then Ryoma then dipped his finger freezing ooze and set a small amount onto the cat’s nose. Marshmallow waved his paws in the air while his tongue tried to lick his nose, but his small tongue just couldn’t reach.

It had been one of those summers where it seemed a chore just to flopped onto his side on the mahogany counter of the Leaky Cauldron. The white cat felt as though he were going to melt into the counter when he noticed a large bowl of liquid. Dragging himself across the counter, he flopped his head over the rim of the bowl and began lapping it up with his small pink tongue. It didn’t taste very good and had a metallic flavor to it. Gross.

“MARSHMALLOW!” Ryoma scolded picking the cat up. “Pensieve liquid is NOT to be drunk.”

Mashmallow’s ears were down as he batted the air while a pesky fly buzzed around. He had been jumping around the counter for some 30 minutes trying to catch the ruddy thing, but it had always evaded the cotton ball and come back to taunt him.

Chattering, Marshmallow leapt once more towards the buzzing and felt something catch in his paws. Suddenly, the buzzing stopped and Marshmallow checked under his paws. The cat purred, pleased with himself.

Well, looked like the fun was over. Ryoma could clean THAT up. Marshmallow curled up in a ball and went back to sleep.

Rolling onto his back, paws up, Marshmallow caught the scent of a sweet perfume and heard his master flirting with another woman at the bar. Just then, the cat spotted the most beautiful creature he had ever seen wagging its tail at the woman’s side. The cat squeaked and hoped they would look his way. The cat found himself in a trance, memorized by the black and white spots. Surely this was an angel before him, no…a goddess. They barked and it sounded as though a siren were singing to the cat tempting him to…

*THUD*

…fall off the counter…

ღ What color is a happy cat? Puuuurrrrple ღ

Upon arriving at the Leaky Cauldron, Ryoma realized one small insignificant detail. He knew next to NOTHING about how to take care of a cat.

“Okay, so…there is your litter box, food is in the fridge, water comes from the tap…and I think that is it,” he said looking down at the white fluff ball. “Since you are living here, you are going to have to work.”

Marshmallow purred. His new person had a lovely voice.

“This…is a tray. It carries things…like food and drinks,” Ryoma explained. “You are going to be a waiter. Got it?”

Marshmallow purred some more.

ღ 15 Room

ღ In reality, cats are probably better off remaining indoors and sending out their humans to deal with the outside world ღ

Marshmallow waited patiently until Ryoma left the room to examine the cardboard box. Its contents had been emptied earlier, but the scent of coffee beans remained. Marshmallow circled the box, surveying it and sniffing it every now and again as he tried to figure out how best to try and climb in. The problem was that the box was long and narrow, whereas he was wide and fluffy.

He hunched down on his hind legs and sprung, landing face first with his little back legs wiggling in the air. Nope, there was not enough room for him in this box.
