Nevaeh’s smile had decided to stay. Not that it was unusual. Nevaeh was a happy person, in general. Emery could, however, feel that she was perhaps more happy tonight than the times when she was just generally happy.

The room echoed with the clinking of the dishes, Nevaeh was washing. Emery tried to match their sound with her humming. It amused Baby Noel for some reason and Emery was more than happy to keep him entertained.

“I still cannot believe you got him and yourself matching pajamas” She heard Nevaeh say.

Emery grinned; it had been a good first birthday.

“You just refuse to understand, that is the problem Emery” Nevaeh was close to giving up. She loved Emery to death, she really did, but at the moment Emery was being the most difficult person on the planet. Her fingers proceeded to form small circles on the sides of her forehead.

“Perhaps, I should have paid better attention to Muggle studies at school, because Bart surely is a strange piece of work!” Emery said icily. Nevaeh’s gaze met Emery’s for a brief moment. Emery noticed the obvious sadness in them before turning to walk out the room, muttering: “Stupid Muggle!”

It was late; they were tired and crashing in Nevaeh’s living room. But that was nothing unusual. Nevaeh however, found it amusing to see Emery already asleep on the couch, her head resting on Quill’s thigh, when she returned from little Noel’s room.

Her blue eyes wandered over to Quill’s hand which was resting on Emery’s head – his fingers idly stroking the girl’s hair. She couldn’t help but smile.

“She was pretty tired” she heard him say, when he noticed her looking. Their eyes met for a second, causing them to share a knowing look. Nevaeh grinned, Quill’s cheeks colored.

Abusing in front of Baby Noel was strictly prohibited. And since Emery Renaldi was such a potty mouth, things always got complicated. Like at the moment when the guy in front of her was being an absolute idiot and refusing he sold the socks, she held.

Noticing where Emery’s outburst may be leading to, Nevaeh elbowed her to be careful. Emery turned to smile sweetly at Noel before turning back: “You complete rotten lollypop! You are like the biscuit I never eat! Like the orange juice I throw out!”

Noel obviously clapped excitedly, hearing Aunt Emery say his favorite things.

Quill liked sleeping at night. Clearly it was not something his best friends practiced. When he woke up screaming – he really couldn’t come up with an explanation as to why they were in his room, in the middle of the night. Abruptly getting up and pulling the sheet to cover himself, he shrieked: “WHAT ARE YOU BOTH DOING HERE?”

“Well, we would’ve been here sooner but your room took too long to break into!” Emery spoke before Nevaeh nudged her on the side. Nevaeh’s other hand came forward, revealing a cake with a small candle lit on it.

Quill smiled.

“I just don’t get it!” Quill said loudly, as he eyed the book that he held out. A groggy Emery shifted in the chair next to him, trying fall back asleep.

“Don’t get what?” Nevaeh asked, resting her chin on the back of his chair.

“This book! It’s supposed to tell me my future but it doesn’t make any sense.” He squinted at the jumbled words once more.

“Well, I think it says you’ll be hit by a flying pillow.”

He had no time to respond before Emery raised her arm, throwing the pillow directly at his head.

“Nice prediction.”

“The drums are actually really easy to play.” Quill said to the new girl - Neveah. He smiled at her as she sat behind the drum set nervously.

“Are you sure?”

“Yup! You just have to go at your own pace.” He pushed his drumsticks into the younger girl’s hands. Neveah looked at him and back at the drum set. Then without pause she began to violently smash the sticks against anything that she could reach until finally one stick flew out of her hand.

“Was that a good pace?” She asked with a bright smile.

“That...that sure was something.”

“You have to wear them!” Emery insisted, as she dropped the cloth into Quill’s hands.

The boy (who would rather be called a man) sighed. Trying to hold back a frown, yet the look on his face revealed exactly what he thought about the clothes.

“Can’t I just wear a suit?”

“To a Wizarding event?”

“Can’t I just not go?”

Emery’s head shook. “Next you’ll ask me if you can go naked.”

“Can’t I just go naked?”

Leaning forward the singer's lips brushed against his cheek. “Put on the dress robes!” Without warning she forcefully pushed him into the bathroom.

Watching muggle TV always got amusing at some point. The afternoon was slow; the three best friends were lounging on the couch, watching TV. Emery was basically licking the salt residue left in the bowl from the popcorn, Nevaeh was humming to herself while Quill stared, in shock and in horror. Some muggle lady was demonstrating the technique of waxing, which helped muggle girls to remove leg hair.

The boy panicked: “I DON’T WANT YOU GUYS DOING THAT TO YOURSELF!”

Emery rolled her eyes.

Nevaeh patted his shoulder trying to soothe him. “Quilly, we are witches – we have magic, remember?”

Nevaeh and Quill got greeted by Emery’s sneezes instead of a smile, when they entered her room. “Em, you look green.” Quill commented, making a face. Emery made a weak attempt to throw a pillow at him but failed. “Oh really, Captain Obvious!?”

Nevaeh grinned before sitting down. Emery immediately crawled forward and rested her head on the girl’s lap. “Nev! Fix me please!” she whined, blowing her nose into the handkerchief she held.

“Well, maybe we can transfigure your nose into something that doesn’t leak.” Quill suggested, ducking out the way when a sticky handkerchief got directed towards him.

The only other night that Emery remembered which was going to even come close to Nevaeh’s night was the Yule ball. She remembered the lights, the glittering, the beautiful dresses and the handsome boys. Everything would be much prettier this time around, of course. She would make sure of that. Nothing was going to be less than perfect.

The mother of one had been running around with Barty’s sister, who was a wedding planner, to achieve just that. Poor Quill had been graciously obliging to his wife’s demands and best friend’s happiness. Even he knew Nevaeh deserved a perfect night.

Emery had been waiting for this moment. To Emery it was as if Bart was going to speak for the very first time. She wandered if Nevaeh and Bart actually talked. The way they were looking at each other, she figured Bart wouldn’t have to say anything and Nevaeh would hear him anyway.

How ironic, given that words were suppose to come easily to Bart.

Everyone was waiting for him to speak but he stayed quiet. Suddenly a small smile appeared on Nevaeh’s lips, a little disappointed, Emery contemplated if they had exchanged their vows without the need of speaking.

Maybe she was allergic to the flowers. Emery didn’t know. All she knew was that her nose itched and she couldn’t do a single thing about it. Except stare into Quill’s eyes and try hard to hear what the priest was saying.

It was her wedding. She was supposed to concentrate. BUT THAT NOSE.

Quill’s brows pulled, watching his soon to be bride in confusion. A smile soon found its way to his lips when he saw Emery mouth him her worry. Raising his hand, he gently let his finger stroke the tip of her nose before whispering: “I do”
