Hey everybody! This is Katie with another fic! I'm writing a story called Always and Forever, and in it is a character called Canderia Summers, Candi to all who are on her good side. And she's very interesting, so I'm writing a story about her!

Her parents are Dan and Molly Summers, and they're archeologists, trying to find signs of ancient magic in America and in Africa. Actually, their work takes them all over the globe.

Molly Drugen Summers is a soft woman who always finds time to listen to a person's problems. She is 5' 7", and lean. She has firey red hair and a sprinkle of freckles arcoss her nose. Her blue eyes are the one outstanding feature about her, but that isn't what makes her stand out. It's her husband.

Dan Summers is a hard-lipped man of few words, unless he's mad at you. Then he can think up a couple of well-phrased paragraphs. He's 5' 10", and well-built. He had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. His temper is terrible, and he only loved one person ever: Molly.

He met Molly in college, and they grew pleasent together. They both got a job in the same field, and were married a year later. This is where the story picks up....5 years later.

"Molly, are you ready? We're leaving now!" Dan yelled to his wife before the ship departed. They were off on another assignment, this time, out in the Great Plains of America.

"I'm coming Dan! Wait a minute!" Molly shouted. She put her bag next to his and sat down.

"Sure, let me wait the whole boat just so you can get your lip-gloss." It was a rough joke, but Molly understood. She usually did, and was one of the few people who could.

"Sorry Dan, it's just....I haven't been well lately." She put a hand to her forehead. Dan leaned down, concerned.

"You have been looking pale....have you eaten?"

"Sure, I had scallops and whipped cream a few hours ago."

"Molly...you hate sea-food." Dan said, and chuckled. Molly leaned over and threw up. "MOLLY!"

"I'm ok, I'm just....ohhh." Molly closed her eyes and leaned on Dan.

"Molly, you're going to the hospital, we'll catch the next ship." Dan picked up his wife and her bags and got them into their car.

"No....Dan...the trip..." Molly tried to stand up, but fell against the plush interior.

"Molly, some things are more important." They sped away, the sound of the ship horn echoing in their ears.

Dan sped Molly to the hospital as fast as he could. He burst through the doors when they arrived, Molly half-fainting.

"Help! I need help!" Dan cried out, and several doctors whisked her away. He collapsed on one of the waiting chairs, sweating and gasping for air.

Time seemed to stand still. He regained his breath and walked around the room. He was upset that he couldn't be with his Molly, where she was, holding her hand. But she was someplace he could't follow. He growled at the wall angrily. The patients that were in there slowly backed away from him, scattering so he was alone.

Molly was sitting on a collapsible bed, panting and clutching her stomach. The doctor had taken some blood, and checked her blood pressure. Now he had the results in his hand, and was looking them over.

"Any pain in the mornings, Mrs. Summers?"

"A little."

"What about low energy, strange food cravings?"

"No, I've been eating pretty normally. Except for that one time....and that other time...and the night before last..." Molly fell silent at the doctor's face. "What's wrong with me?"

"Mrs. Summers. Have you had any cases of morning sickness?"

"Morn....oh doctor, you're not saying..." Molly put a hand to her mouth.

"Yes Mrs. Summers. You're pregnant. P-R-E-G-"

"Doctor, I know how to spell it. But my husband will be furious!" Molly was all ready to cry. The doctor reached out and patted her shoulder.

"Why? I'd be over-joyed."

"We lead a pretty busy life doctor. We're archeologists. When are we going to have time for a child?" Tears ran down her face. "Dan will be so upset at me...."

"It's not your fault Mrs. Summers. I'd be happy to talk to your husband. Nurse!" He called into the hallway. "Nurse, send for Mr. Summers, he's in the East waiting room."

Dan paced for a quarter of an hour, then a nurse came in.

"Mr. Summers?"

"That's me." Dan leapt to his feet.

"This way please." The nurse led him into Molly's room. Molly was putting on her coat.

"Molly! Are you alright? What's the matter?" Dan rushed to her side. The doctor gave him a weird look.

How could this caring man cause trouble for his wife? The doctor couldn't understand the woman's worries. But this had to be done.

"Mr. Summers, you're wife will be fine...."

"Oh thank God." Dan interrupted. The doctor sighed and continued.

"....in about 5 months." Dan stopped and stared at the doctor.

"What do you mean?"

"Your wife....is going to have a baby. A girl, by the looks of it." Dan's face fell stony. "Mr. Summers-"

"Molly, let's go home now. Thank you doctor." Dan said curtly, and escorted his wife out of the hospital. The doctor looked after them with wonder and disbelief on his face.

Almost up to Candi's entrance!

"Dan, I-"

"I don't want to talk about it right now Molly." Dan held his hand up and held the door open for his wife. Molly fell silent. Dan drove home in silence, and stopped at the airport.

"Why are we here?" Molly asked, looking around.

"We missed our ship, remember?" Dan said flatly, and helped her out of the car.

"We're....still going?" Molly asked faintly. Dan gave her a look.

"I'm not stopping life for a child hon." He got their bags out of the back of the car. "Go and wait in the waiting room, I'm going to get us two tickets to the States."

"Yes dear." Molly picked up their bags and went to the room.

The next 5 months passed by quickly and painfully for the couple. Molly was sick often, but continued to work out of fear of her husband. Dan was silent and moody most of the time. Finally....the day came.

Molly came out of her tent and stretched. She patted her protruding belly and went to the breakfast tent.

"'Morning Molly." Sam waved and got her breakfast. Sam was co-leader of the digging.

"Good morning Sam, and thanks."

"Don't want too much moment for the mommy." Sam said, and patted the stomach as well. "How much longer?"

"Any day now." Molly said, getting a little more excited. She was going to be a mom! Just then, Dan came in. Sam walked away, suddenly finding something else more interesting.

He sat down and piled eggs and toast onto his plate, and began eating.

"So...couldn't tell me you were getting up early today?"

"Dan, I-"

"Whatever." Molly grew angry at her husband.

"Dan, I just don't believe you! Sometimes I wonder if you're human!"

"What do you mean?" Dan asked, a little taken aback. Heads began to turn at the growing argument.

"I mean to say that you're completely insensitive! You've been grumpy and irritable ever since the doctor said I was pregnent. Is that a crime?"

"No, I-"

"Cause you didn't seem to mind it 9 months ago!" Molly was on a roll. A crowd gathered. Moly was finally telling her husband off!

"Molly, I didn't mean-"

"What? WHAT DIDN'T YOU MEAN?" Molly asked, enraged. "No, I'mnot going to even let you speak! Now it's my turn!"

Dan threw his chair back and stood up, eyes blazing. Molly faced those eyes, with no fear in her own, only warieness.

"You've been acting like a complete ogre for the longest time. Aren't you glad to have a child? Your child? Or is it something else? Why don't you want this child?" Molly flung the question at him.

Dan stood there, silent. This wasn't his Molly! This was the pregnency, only that. The real Molly didn't act this way, or talk back! That was why he loved her. She was so submissive. He didn't need a firm hand with her at all. He had to stop this.

"Molly, you're not yourself. I can understand. Get back to bed Molly."

"No." Now it was outright defiance! Dan grew angry.

"Back...to....bed, Molly."

"No....ohhh...." Molly clutched at her stomach and bent over. She threw up onto the ground. Dan cried out and caught her before she fell over.

"It's the baby! It's coming!" Dan yelled. "Someone get a car and help me get her to the hospital!!"

o0o0o0o Candi's on her way!

Molly was rushed into a nearby hospital a half hour later. Her breathing had become irregular, and the pains were coming every minute. Dan had sent a man ahead to warn the hospital of the expectant mother's arrival. There were two doctors and three nurses waiting for them.

"Here she is." Dan panted. One doctor and the nurses whisked her away into the birthing room. One stayed behind with Dan.

"OK, has your wife been ill these past 9 months?"

"No. What does that have to do with anything?" Dan asked.

"If she's been sick, the baby might catch something, or it will make the birthing process difficult."

"She had a slight cold a month ago. But it went away after about three days." Dan admitted. The doctor scribbled it on a clipboard.

After a few more questions, the doctor left, leaving Dan alone in the waiting room. He paced and thought. Then thought and paced. Then he sat down and just thought.

This baby was going to be trouble. He could just tell. Children were nothing but trouble. With their jobs, raising this baby was going to be tough and unnecessary. He grew furious at this child, and he didn't even know it!

A mere hour later, Molly was the mother of a beautiful baby girl. She held it in her amrs and looked at it, fascinated. The nurse watched over the two of them.

"Would you like your husband to see her?"

Molly hesitated. "Not right now. He....doesn't approve of children."

"Then why have one?" The nurse asked, confused.

"Because....I wanted it. I threw away the pills. I don't care what Dan says. She's mine, and he's not going to ruin her childhood." Molly promised herself and the baby fiercely.

"You know, you still have to name her." The nurse reminded her, trying to take her mind off her husband.

"Canderia." Molly replied immediately. "Canderia Marie Summers."

"Canderia? That's an-"

"Unusual name? Good." Molly laughed wryly. "I'm glad. Dan needs a wake-up call to the real world."

"I seem to find him a perfectly nice fellow" The nurse ventured timidly.

"He is. He's a wonderful man...when he's in the proper temper. And he does love me. But he's very demanding, and I'm sure I'm the only woman in the world that can put up with him." Molly said that last bit to herself.

"It's time to show the husband the girl." Another nurse stuck her head in. "Is that alright, Mrs. Summers?"

"Yes. That will be fine." Molly gave up Canderia, and fell back against the pillows.

Dan was led into the show room, where babies were in their baskets. He saw nurses in there, attaching names, dates of births, and the parents names to the baskets. He saw a nurse pick up a girl, and bring her over to the window.

Dan leaned close to the glass to see the name.

"Canderia Summers....what's gotten into her?" He muttered, not pleased at all. The baby opened her eyes and put a hand up to the glass. Dan reached out to cover it with his own, but wrenched it away and stormed off.

And Candi's in the story!

I really don't approve of Dan. He's so selfish. Anyways, yay, Canderia's here!

Molly was let out of the hospital two days later, diagnosed healthy and the baby normal. Dan rented an apartment near the dig site so they could continue to work. Well, Dan anyway. Molly stayed home with the baby, whic Dan preferred. After all, she was the one who wanted the stupid thing in the first place!

Molly and Dan hardley spoke to each other during the early stages of Canderia's, now called Candi, childhood. As soon as she learned to walk, she quickly picked up talking....

"Candi, come to Mommy sweetie, come on!" Molly encouraged her daughter to walk to small length of carpet. Candi looked at it uncertainly, her thumb in her mouth.

"Tell her to stop sucking her thumb. It's annoying me." Dan said from behind that morning's paper. Molly looked at him disapporvingly, but gently removed the thumb.

"Walk to me baby, c'mon....Dan! She's doing it!" Dan's head came from behind the paper. He got down on his hands and knees and squatted next to his wife.

"Come to Daddy Candi....come here!" He forgot he was supposed to be cross. Candi looked at her mother, then slowly turned and toddled towards her father. He caught her in his arms and picked her up.

"Yea! Hugs!" He said softly, and kissed his daughter. Then he remembered himself. He put the child down, coughed, then headed back to his paper. Molly hid her smile.

This charade went on for a while, until Candi was about a year old. Then he had to start noticing her, because she was walking and talking by then.

"Mama....up!" She would say, and automatically get hugs and a cookie. From her father, she got a pat on the head when people were looking, two hugs and a cookie when they were alone.

"Dada....ookie." She said one day when they were alone. Molly had gone down to the store to pick up some more diapers.

"What does the baby want?" Dan asked his daughter. Candi frowned.

"Dada....ookie." And held out her hand. Dan's eyes filled with tears of laughter at the small serious baby in front of him. He picked her up and took her into the small kitchen. He put her on her highchair.

"Cookie Candi?" He reached for the box. Candi began to get excited.

"Ookie! Ookie!" He gave her one, and she munched eagerly.

"Do we want our bottle now?" Dan asked.

"Botts!" Candi said. "Peas?" Dan laughed.

"You've got it angel." He picked up the bottle out of the fridge and handed it to her. She sucked eagerly at the milk inside. He was so enchanted that he didn't hear Molly come home.

"It's too early for her bottle Dan! She's a daddy's girl already!" Molly chuckled softly. Dan looked sheepishly at her.

"But...she asked so nicely." Dan pouted. Candi took the bottle out of her mouth and laughed gaily.

"Mama! Botts!" She wiggled around and laughed some more.

"I know...she's going to get everything out of you." Molly kissed her husband's forehead. He wrapped his arm around her waist, and they stood there together, watching their child.

See? Dan has a heart after all....or does he?
