Hogwarts RPG Name: Asher Hawthorne Third Year | Chapter Twenty-Eight
Hermione, forgetting all the awkwardness between herself and Harry, ran to see what was wrong. “Luna?” she said as she reached them, “What’s wrong?”
Luna and Harry both looked up at Hermione. Luna’s face was covered in tears and Harry was apparently shocked that Hermione was nice enough to be talking to them. Luna sniffled and held out an official looking piece of parchment. Hermione was confused. Had Luna been expelled? No, this parchment was from St. Mungo’s and was addressed to Luna Lovegood. Hermione opened it and read: Quote:
Dear Miss Lovegood,
We are sorry to inform you that your father, Xenophillius Lovegood, has been taken under our care. We fear that he may be terminally ill. We haven’t yet figured out what is wrong with him. He wished that we inform you immediately. We are aware that you are currently enrolled in your sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so we (St. Mungo’s and your father) understand if you cannot come immediately. It might be best to show this letter to Headmaster Dumbledore and arrange something. We do not know how much longer your father has, or if we will be able to fix whatever it is that has gone wrong. As of right now, it doesn’t look too good.
Best wishes,
St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
| Hermione was stunned by the bluntness of the letter. She couldn’t find words for a few minutes and then said, “Have you gone to see Dumbledore yet, Luna?”
Luna looked up and shook her head, signaling that she hadn’t. “Well you should immediately; you need to go be with your father,” Hermione continued. Harry nodded in agreement while stroking Luna’s long blonde hair. Luna’s tears had ceased momentarily as she looked up at Harry.
“I’m going to have to go,” she said sadly.
Harry looked at her in surprise. “Don’t tell me you’re worrying about me! I’ll be here when you come back. You go and be with your father. Come on, I’ll take you to Dumbledore’s office.” He nodded in Hermione’s direction and began leading Luna off towards the stone gargoyles that stood in front of the concealed spiral staircase leading up to where Dumbledore lived. Harry had to try a few times before he got the password right, but he eventually did. He lead a surprised Luna up the stairs and knocked on the door with the griffin door knocker. The door opened by itself and Harry and Luna walked in to find Dumbledore sitting at his desk.
“Hello Harry, Miss Lovegood,” he said, nodding at the two. A few silent tears were still streaming down Luna’s cheeks and Harry did the talking.
“Good afternoon Professor,” he said quietly.
Dumbledore, obviously taking note of Luna’s condition said, “What ever is the matter, Luna?”
Luna sniffled, “My father is ill, Professor. I need to leave Hogwarts and go be with him at St. Mungo’s.” She gave him the piece of parchment and he read it carefully. At the end, he looked up and nodded.
“You must go at once,” he agreed. Harry looked at Luna who seemed to be mildly surprised. Harry, who was not a stranger to Dumbledore’s kindness, had been expecting this. Dumbledore stood up and grabbed a seemingly useless object, an old sock.
“ Portus,” he whispered. He turned to Luna and Harry. “Luna, you have twenty minutes to run to Ravenclaw Tower and gather a few things. You may, of course, come back to Hogwarts at any time necessary to grab things or to come to any classes. This will take you to St. Mungo’s in twenty minutes time. Please do hurry,” he then spoke to Harry. “You will need to say goodbye to Miss Lovegood now, Harry. She need not be distracted while she is gathering her things.”
Harry nodded and turned to Luna. Dumbledore had apparently become fascinated with the birds outside his window, but he was really only trying to give the two privacy.
“Everything’s going to turn out okay, Luna,” he said, not knowing if what he was saying was true.
Luna’s eyes were glistening with tears. “I’m going to miss you,” she said honestly.
“You heard Dumbledore, you can come back at any time you want to. You can come see me sometime,” Harry said, though he knew Luna would stay with her father at all times. They were too close to be apart at a time like this.
Luna nodded and kissed Harry on the lips. “I love you,” she said quietly.
He smiled slightly at her, “I love you too, Luna. You need to go.”
Luna nodded, and, with one more kiss, she turned and left Dumbledore’s office. Harry stood on the spot for a minute or two, then turned to Dumbledore. “Have a good day, Professor,” Harry said quietly.
“You too, Harry,” Dumbledore said. Harry turned and left without noticing the tears that were shining in the piercingly blue eyes behind the half-moon spectacles.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Asher Hawthorne Third Year | Chapter Twenty-Nine
Word spread rather quickly about Luna’s father and his illness. Harry felt oddly alone for the first time in a long time at Hogwarts. Hermione tried to comfort him, but she had enough on her plate to deal with, what with Draco and NEWTs.
Speaking of Draco, everyone knew of Hermione and Draco by now. It had been about three or four days since everyone found out about the two. Things had not become any less awkward for either of them. All the Slytherins were shunning Draco for associating with a Mudblood. He didn’t really care about that; what he cared about was the fact that when his father found out, he was as good as dead. Besides that, he was worried for Hermione’s safety. What if someone tried to go after her because of him? He didn’t think he’d be able to live with himself. As for Hermione, things with Harry had returned yet again to their awkward state. She hadn’t even spoken to Ron. Abrielle spoke to her, probably only because she hadn’t been around Hogwarts long enough to get to know Draco Malfoy as Harry and Ron saw him. Ginny, who had obviously known the whole time, was the only one who was remotely friendly with Hermione at all times.
“I’m sure things will get better, Hermione,” Ginny said soothingly one night in Gryffindor Tower. Hermione had been venting to Ginny about all her problems. She had told her all about how Harry and Ron wouldn’t even speak to her, how Abrielle probably felt caught in the middle because of Ron….Ginny sympathized, but was still honest with Hermione. “Listen,” Ginny told her, “You knew what you were getting into when you went after Malfoy. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be with him,” she said quickly at the look of fury and indignation etched on her best friend’s face, “But you knew that when everyone found out, it would be a storm.”
Hermione contemplated this; of course Ginny was right. How could she and Draco be together without some drama from everyone first? She finally sighed and said, “I know, Gin, but that doesn’t make it any less hard.”
Ginny smiled at her. “Well,” she began, shrugging. “At least you’ve got me.”
However, Ginny Weasley had her own plan in mind at the moment that was making her a bit distracted from Hermione’s problems. Though she felt immensely sorry for Luna about her father, Luna being away from the school gave Ginny the perfect opportunity to get Harry back! Ginny had thought that she was over Harry; after all, they had never been together, but they had once come very close. Ginny, over time, began to lose her feelings for Harry, but they were back. Only now, they came with an awful plan to get what she wanted. She was going to be cruel, she was going to play dirty; she didn’t care about the rules anymore. All she cared about was getting Harry. After all, she had wanted him a lot longer than Luna had! It was only fair….
“Ginny,” Hermione said, waving her hand in Ginny’s face, “Ginny, are you alright?”
Ginny came out of her little trance and smiled. “I’m fine Hermione,” she said sweetly, concealing all the evil thoughts that were floating in her head. Now all she could see were visions of herself and Harry walking the corridors hand in hand and Luna crying in a bathroom stall….
Ron and Abrielle were out walking yet again. This had become one of their favorite pastimes. The time of Abrielle having a crush on Harry was long gone. She had come to realize that Ron was all she needed; he loved her unconditionally, after all. She still hadn’t told him she loved him, and she didn’t know when she intended to. Presently, the two were walking along the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest hand in hand, admiring the night sky.
“I do hope that Luna’s father will be okay,” Abrielle said for about the thousandth time.
Ron replied, “Yeah, me too. It’ll devastate her if he isn’t…after all, her mum is already dead.”
“I didn’t know that!” Abrielle said, shocked.
Ron grimaced, “Oh yeah, years ago. Luna said it happened when she was about nine. A spell went wrong or something…she said her mum was very experimental with her charms.”
“Oh that’s awful,” Abrielle said, feeling even sorrier for Luna than she had previously.
“Yeah,” Ron said, “But Luna seems to be okay. She is always a very positive person. Never lets anything get her down, does she?”
Abrielle laughed and squeezed Ron’s hand. “That’s right; I think everyone could use a little of that…we should all take a leaf out of Luna’s book.”
Ron’s stomach turned as Abrielle squeezed his hand. He stopped walking abruptly, and so did she. She looked curiously over at him, and he leaned in and kissed her. She was overcome with emotion. She kissed him back as though she had never kissed him before and would never kiss him again. He smiled in the middle of their kiss, and as she felt him do so, she did the same. They continued kissing until suddenly, Ron took out his wand and procured a blanket out of nothing. They spread it out on the floor and looked around; they were completely hidden from sight. They lay down together and kept kissing.
That night, their relationship went to a level that neither of them had experienced before. It was beautiful and blissful. They now shared something that no one else could steal from them. At about midnight, they got up and smirked at each other; it was like they had a big secret now that no one else knew about. They walked back up to Gryffindor Tower and entered together. The common room was deserted; Hermione, Ginny, and Harry had long since gone to bed. They lay down on the couch together, both silently praying that they would never forget the feeling they had just experienced. Comments, please! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Asher Hawthorne Third Year | Wow, only one comment, but I wrote another post anyways.. here goes. Chapter Thirty
Ron woke up the next morning and momentarily wondered why Abrielle was in his arms. He then remembered the last nights' events, and he smiled, looking down at her sleeping face. He thought she looked like the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He hugged her a little tighter and watched her smile in her sleep. He wondered if she was dreaming and if she was, what she was dreaming about. He stayed like that, watching her face, until he looked out the window. Dawn was barely breaking outside, the sky a misty pink color. It was Sunday, so of course no one would be up yet. He looked down at Abrielle again and smiled when he saw her eyes were awake and shining up at him.
"Good morning beautiful," he said, kissing her softly on the lips.
She smiled and said, "Good morning, dear."
He thought about what to say, and the only thing he could think of was, "How are you?"
She smiled again, slightly amused at the hint of confusion in her boyfriend's voice. "I'm good. I slept well...did you?"
"Hmm," Ron said, pretending to be contemplating her question seriously, "I don't know; I had the most beautiful girl ever in my arms, but I'm not sure I'd say that's necessarily good..." He trailed off and she punched him playfully in the arm. "Oy," Ron said laughing, "No need to get violent."
The pair stayed like that for just a while longer. Everything seemed so perfect, like nothing could go wrong. Little did they know, things were soon going to change for them forever. But that's beside the point right now. Let us stick to the present...
Meanwhile, Hermione was groggily awaking in the girls' dormitories above. Thoughts flooded her head suddenly as though something truly important had gone on. She then remembered that nothing vaguely important had the day before. She did, however, wake up every morning worrying that Draco's father would be there any moment to kill her or Draco...or both. She sighed and got out of bed, careful not to wake any of the girls around her. She wondered why she had never become close to any of the girls in her year. Sure, there was Abrielle, but she was new. Wait...where was Abrielle? Hermione found herself wondering this as she scanned the room. Abrielle's four poster was empty, and Hermione furrowed her brow. Shrugging to no one in particular, Hermione walked into the bathroom and quickly dressed, brushed her teeth and hair, and was off. She was going to get Draco out of his room.
She strode into the seventh year boys' dormitories and opened Harry's trunk silently. He wouldn't care, of course. She briefly looked over to Ron's bed out of habit and her brow became furrowed once more. Ron wasn't in his bed either. So, Hermione thought to herself, those two were out of bed together all night. Very odd, indeed. She smirked at the thought of two of her best friends and the mischief they could have gotten into. Pushing those thoughts aside, she threw the silky cloak around her and left the dormitory as silently as she had entered.
Walking down the chilly corridors, she found herself at the dungeons more quickly than she had expected to. The cold November air was even draftier down here, and she was shivering slightly under the cloak. She said the password, which Draco had revealed to her in the greatest confidence. She hoped that he wouldn't be mad that she was waking him so early; it couldn't be much after six.
She crept quietly across the cold dungeon floor to the staircase she had learned so well that lead to the seventh year Slytherin boys' dormitories. She took a glance around; this common room was so different than the Gryffindors'. It was so much less welcoming; then again, that's what Slytherins were supposed to be, weren't they? She shrugged, noting to herself that she thought about things too much. She found herself at the door to Draco's dormitory and walked in. She spotted a few Slytherin boys grunting and drooling in their sleep. She suppressed her laugh and walked to Draco's bed. She pulled the curtains back around her as she lightly sat down next to the sleeping blonde boy with the pointy face that she had come to love. She watched him for a second before gently shaking him. "Draco?" she said in hardly more than a whisper.
He opened his eyes groggily and looked at her in confusion. As he woke up a little more, his face dawned a sleepy smile. "Hello, love," he said quietly.
"I hope you don't mind that I'm waking you," she said hopefully.
He grabbed her face and brought her down to kiss him softly. "I don't mind at all," he said after he had let go of her face. She smiled, admiring his flirtacious tactics.
"Let's get out of here. I'll wait for you in the common room; get dressed," she said smiling. She kissed him on his pale forehead and exited the room in a mute tone. He stared after her, where she had been standing. He sighed and squinted seeing the bright pink light outside his window. She's crazy. It can't be much past six. he thought in an accurate estimate. He got up and stretched, careful not to wake anyone else around him. He didn't need questions as to why he was getting up so early; they all knew by now that he was with Hermione, but he didn't want to deal with their ridiculous and immature taunting. He pulled on some robes, glanced at the Slytherin emblem, and sighed. He ignored his own sigh and grabbed his wand, putting it in his pocket.
He took a last glance around the room before silently opening the door, leaving, and closing it behind him. Someone inside gave an incoherent grunt, but didn't wake. Draco paused, making sure that whoever it was didn't wake up. He then went down to the common room which appeared to be deserted. "Hermione?" he called, feeling stupid, as though he was talking to no one.
Suddenly, her figure burst out of nowhere from underneath the cloak. "Hello there," she said, smiling.
He walked up to her and grabbed her lightly, hugging her closely to him. "I missed you," he said, being honest.
"How?" she asked in a confused tone, "I just saw you before we went to sleep."
"Sleeping is time away from you, so I missed you," he said, taking her hand and kissing it.
"You know," she began, smirking at him, "From the old you, I'd never of guessed that you were so romantic. Are you always like that, or is it just with me?"
He looked at her, his face etched with surprise. "Just you of course!" He then regained his composure and added, "You have proven to bring out the best in me."
She smiled at him, and changed the subject, loving teasing him. "I'm glad we have that essay for Snape done. That means we have all day today to spend together."
"Yeah," he said, noting her swift subject change. Did she just love to drive him crazy? "Too bad we get another one tomorrow," he added, as though nothing was bothering him.
She nodded and said, "Come on, let's go get an early breakfast. No one will be there; we can sit together...."
He smiled at the idea and agreed instantly. The two set off up flights of stairs to the main hall where the Great Hall could be found. They walked, fingers laced together, and found themselves at the entrance. They walked in and found it deserted except a few of the staff members including Professors Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Sprout, who were all sitting together and conversing quietly in the empty hall. Hermione looked towards the Gryffindor table as Draco looked at the Slytherin one.
"Come on," Hermione said, ushering him towards her table.
"Why do we have to go to your table?" Draco said indignantly.
"You don't even want to be a Slytherin anymore!" Hermione said, smirking.
The truth of her statement washed over him, but he acted, again, unbothered. "Oh, alright," he said in a pouty voice. She smiled at him and lead him over to the furthest table on the right. The three teachers' eyes were all looking at them. A smile was playing in the corners of Dumbledore's mouth as the two sat down together, hands still interlocked. And finally, for the first time ever, Draco Malfoy, a Slytherin, sat for breakfast with Hermione Granger, a Gryffindor. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Asher Hawthorne Third Year | Chapter Thirty-One
Hermione and Draco ate breakfast in peace until two people walked through the Great Hall doors. Ron and Abrielle had walked in hand in hand and were smiling until they looked over and saw the other two sitting at the Gryffindor Table. Abriell e looked indifferent; deciding to push Ron aside for a second, she waved in a friendly manner over to Hermione. Ron, on the other hand, was scowling at them. He reluctantly sat down with Abrielle at the correct table.
“What makes you think that you’re allowed to sit here now?” Ron said to Draco scathingly.
Draco replied coolly, not wanting to upset Hermione. “I was invited, that’s what.”
Ron stared hatefully at Draco, trying hard to think of a retort. When nothing came to him, he simply scoffed and began buttering his toast. Abrielle looked nervously at Hermione who mouthed, “Boys.” Abrielle nodded, suppressing a giggle.
“So, Abrielle,” Hermione said, red faced from trying not to laugh, “We have Arithmancy together today.”
Abrielle smiled at nodded, glancing briefly at Ron who had begun to glare at her too. She sighed and said, “Ron, honestly, you can’t expect me to be mad at Hermione just because you are. We really should all just put our differences aside and get along.”
Ron laughed haughtily, taking Abrielle’s hand under the table, “You’re living in a dream world, dear.”
Draco stared across the table at the pair of them. He looked at Hermione and said, “I have Arithmancy with you too, also.” Ron looked at him indignantly as though he’d prefer anything than for Hermione and Abrielle to spend a class period with him. Draco smirked and said, “Oh, Ron, could you pass me the butter when you’re done…although it looks like you’ve got plenty of butter.” Indeed, Ron had buttered his toast so much that butter was dripping off the edges of the bread and onto the wooden table. Hermione and Abrielle laughed at the sight of Ron blushing bright red.
After the four had finished breakfast, Ron abruptly said, “Hang on, it’s Sunday! Why do you all have Arithmancy?”
Abrielle sighed, “I told you weeks ago. Today is the day of our special project we’re doing! Honestly, do you never listen to a single word I say?” Just as Ron was going to reply, he saw that Abrielle had been smirking playfully at him while she said that. He smiled back and nudged her. Things seemed fine for a split second, and then Ron glanced over and saw Hermione and Draco. Hermione was looking at Ron expectantly, hoping that he would forget their fight and ask them to join him and Abrielle outside. Ron crushed these hopes when he said, “Come on, Abrielle; we have things to do,” coldly.
Hermione sighed slightly as she saw Ron and Abrielle leave up the marble staircase. She looked over at Draco, waiting. “Well?” she asked expectantly.
“Well what?” he asked her.
She sighed yet again, “What are we going to do now?”
“Oh, I dunno,” he said, shrugging. He looked at her and sighed, “I’m sorry he won’t talk to you.”
Hermione smiled at him. “It’s not your fault he’s pigheaded,” she said, still smiling at him. He laughed and they walked out the great oak doors, apparently unanimously deciding they would go enjoy the grounds. While they were outside, Hermione suddenly remembered that, as she had been walking out of the Gryffindor Common Room under Harry’s invisibility cloak, she had seen Ron and Abrielle asleep on the sofa together. Being so caught up in getting to the Slytherin Common Room, she had overlooked that fact. That answered her question she had been asking herself: Ron and Abrielle had been out all night together.
“Draco?” Hermione asked suddenly, not sure where what was about to happen was coming from.
Draco looked at her, eyebrows raised, “Yes?”
“What are you going to do about the bride your parents have lined up for you, then?” she asked, blushing.
“Oh,” he said, taken aback by the randomness of her question. “I expect I at least have to meet her. Unless, of course, I run to my parents and tell them I have a girlfriend. They wouldn’t be too thrilled either.”
“But they’re going to find out anyway, aren’t they? I mean, everyone knows about us now. One of the Slytherins, or even Snape, is bound to tell them,” Hermione said.
Draco nodded. “I expect I’ll be getting a letter any time now from them…or my father could show up here. I’d just prefer the letter, trust me,” he said once he saw the look on Hermione’s face. “They’ll probably just send a letter, thinking it’s a rumor.”
“What if I want them to know?” Hermione said, raising her eyebrows.
“Why on earth would you want that?!” he asked incredulously.
She contemplated his question and shrugged, “Maybe,” she began, “I want to go with you to your house over winter break. If I can help it, you’re not meeting the half-veela.” At first, Draco thought his girlfriend was only joking. That is until he saw the look of sheer determination etched on her face. |
