Oh my gosh! I feel so bad. I have had such a busy RP day & I have been on MSN, so I haven't posted until now. Hopefully this will suffice & you will all like it, though it's sort of short. I'm having a bad case of temporary writer's block >.<

Chapter Fourteen

Ron and Abrielle were outside walking one evening after dinner. It was pretty chilly; they both had jackets on and light scarves. They were walking hand in hand by the lake when Ron suggested they sit down. Abrielle agreed and they sat facing the moonlight. Abrielle leaned her head on Ron’s shoulder.

“I’m really glad McGonagall told you to show me around school and not someone else,” Abrielle told him, smiling.

Ron grabbed her hand and lightly rubbed her palm. “So am I, dear,” he said. She loved pet names like dear, love, baby, etc.

She smiled up at him and kissed him lightly on the lips. They continued sitting like this for quite some time, talking in hushed whispers in case someone came out and told them to get back up to the school.

“Do you think it was like,” Ron hesitated, “Destiny, or something?” he felt stupid saying this, knowing he sounded cheesy.

“Do I think what was destiny?” Abrielle asked.

“Us meeting,” Ron said, as though it was obvious.

Abrielle hesitated; Ron couldn’t see her face since it was dark, but guilt was etched in her features. “I don’t believe in destiny,” she said shortly. Ron looked down at her confusedly but didn’t push the subject any further.

Inside, Luna and Harry were in the Room of Requirements on the seventh floor. Luna had told her Ravenclaw friends she was going nargle hunting; they had rolled their eyes and said bye. Harry had just left; Ron was out with Abrielle and Hermione was in the library catching up on some Transfiguration homework.

The two were having an animated discussion on Professor Snape. Luna was saying how he was clearly misunderstood; something had to of gone wrong in his childhood. Harry said that he was clearly just oddly twisted; something had to of gone wrong in his mind. They were laughing away when they heard someone walking down the hallway outside. Harry opened the door and peeked out.

“Who was it?” Luna asked a very confused looking Harry when he came back in.

“It doesn’t make much sense….” Harry trailed off.

“What doesn’t?” Luna asked impatiently.

“Well, based on what time it was, and where he’s supposed to be, it doesn’t make much sense that Draco Malfoy just walked by here….” Harry said.

Chapter Fifteen

It was Saturday and it was an ugly, rainy day. Hermione and Abrielle found themselves sitting on the couch of the Gryffindor Common Room. Harry, Ron, and Ginny were all out at Quidditch practice even with this weather. The two girls were just acquaintances and found it quite odd that they were sitting there together, conversing.

“What was Australia like?” Hermione asked casually.

“Oh, you know, sunny; lots of kangaroos,” Abrielle laughed. Hermione smiled. Abrielle asked, “So your parents are Muggles, right?”

Hermione nodded, wondering if that sort of thing mattered to Abrielle. “Yeah, I didn’t know I was a witch till Hogwarts sent me my letter,” she said proudly.

Abrielle smiled at her. “I have always been so curious about Muggles; they sort of fascinate me!”

Hermione laughed and told Abrielle that she sounded a lot like Ron’s dad, Mr. Weasley. She explained about the flying Ford Anglia and about all his other continuous questions for herself and Harry. Abrielle laughed about Mr. Weasley’s odd collection of random Muggle things.

“So maybe he could get me a job at the Ministry dealing with Muggles,” Abrielle thought aloud.

“Oh, I’m sure he could. The Weasleys are fantastic. You’ll love them once you meet them,” Hermione assured her.

Abrielle shifted slightly in her seat. She didn’t know when she was to meet the Weasleys, but she wasn’t sure she was quite ready for that. She knew Ginny, and she supposed that was a good enough start for the stage of a relationship she and Ron were in. Hermione noticed the shift and the change in the atmosphere.

“Is something wrong?” she asked worriedly.

“Oh, erm…well I just don’t know if I’m quite ready to meet all of Ron’s family yet,” she said, being honest. “Well, we just started going out and everything, you know.” Hermione nodded in understanding.

“You shouldn’t be forced into doing anything you’re not ready for, even just meeting his family. If you think it’s a bit too soon for that, let him know. I’m sure Ron will understand.”

The girls spent the remainder of the afternoon chatting away; after that, they were much better friends and definitely not just acquaintances. Hermione and Abrielle were nearly inseparable. They found that they had a lot in common; the two became great friends and everyone in Hogwarts knew it was so, including Ron.

The following week, Ron came down with the flu. Madam Pomfrey was out on family business, so Ron wasn’t going to be able to get a pepper-up potion for nearly a week. He spent the week in bed, Abrielle bringing him his homework. The subject of meeting his family hadn’t come up yet, and Abrielle was relieved. On that Wednesday afternoon, Abrielle took Ron his homework and went back downstairs into the common room where Hermione was sitting with Harry.

Abrielle sat down and began talking to the two. It had been like this all week since Ron had been sick. He was contagious and wouldn’t allow Abrielle to stay upstairs with him; she was glad, seeing as she didn’t want to get sick either. She couldn’t afford to miss a whole week of classes because she carelessly got sick.

“Harry, honestly, Professor Binn’s class isn’t hard at all!” Hermione was protesting. “All you have to do is take notes!”

“That’s the problem,” started Harry. “I’ve never been big on note taking.”

Abrielle laughed. She was looking at Harry, smiling. “He’s rather cute,” she found herself thinking. She immediately pushed the thought out of her head. He was Ron’s best friend!

“Oh come on Harry!” Hermione kept on. “It’s just laze; all you have to do is WRITE.”

“I’ve only just told you Hermione. I hate doing work and writing. As long as I can do the spells, I don’t see why I need the history of magic too badly,” Harry protested back.

This time when Abrielle laughed, it was a flirty giggle. Hermione glanced over at her and looked at her skeptically, unnoticed by Harry. Harry got up a little while later and said he was going to run to see Dumbledore about something; he looked very odd as he left the common room, as though he had been lying.

Hermione eyed Abrielle; “What?!” Abrielle asked, exclaiming.

“Why did you use the flirty giggle thing on Harry?” Hermione asked quietly, making sure a gossipy group of fourth years didn’t overhear.

“Flirty giggle thing?” Abrielle asked stupidly.

“You know what I’m talking about,” Hermione said sternly.

Abrielle sighed, “I definitely didn’t mean to; he’s Ron’s best friend after all!” She laughed, though inside she was squirming.

“Okay,” Hermione said, still eyeing her suspiciously. “Whatever you say, Abrielle.”

Chapter Sixteen

Hermione hadn’t seen Draco in days. It was Monday, which meant it was time for their Double Potions together. Hermione was primping her hair just before that class when Ginny walked in. She teased her about trying to look nice for Draco.

“Oh, shut up, Ginny,” Hermione said, looking over and winking at Ginny.

A few minutes later, Hermione and Ginny had made their way down to the Great Hall. They sat down next to Harry, Ron and Abrielle. Harry was in a daze, gazing in a random area in the direction of the Ravenclaw table. Hermione figured he was just too tired to function. Ron and Abrielle were arguing about something stupid. Hermione noticed Abrielle kept looking in the direction that Harry was looking in hopelessly, obviously wanting to know what he was looking at. Hermione gazed across the Great Hall and saw him; Draco was sitting with a few of his friends and he wasn’t talking to them. On the contrary, he was zoned out, staring…well, he was staring right at Hermione.

Hermione’s stomach did an awful back flip. She smiled happily at him. She couldn’t wait for Potions now.

As soon as she finished eating, she muttered some half-hearted lie about forgetting her book in the dorms, saying she had to leave early to get to Potions in time. Just as she reached the door to the Great Hall into the entrance hall, she nodded in Draco’s direction. He seemed to have gotten the point. He stood up, saying goodbyes to his friends, saying that he would see them in Potions. Unlike Hermione’s friends, they didn’t ask him questions when he got up to leave.

Hermione had kept walking, obviously to make it not look obvious that she had nodded towards Draco. He caught up with her on the way to the dungeons.

“Hey stranger,” he said to her. He felt as though he hadn’t seen her in forever.

She grinned, “Well hello Mr. Lab Partner, sir,” she said.

“Did you need to talk to me?” he asked her inquiringly.

Her stomach tightened up. She was too nervous to talk to him. “No, I just wanted to ask you why you hadn’t talked to me in forever!”

“You’re still a Gryffindor and I’m still a Slytherin, even if we are sort of friends now,” Draco reminded her. She nodded solemnly, knowing exactly what he meant, knowing he was right.

She wanted to tell him everything she was feeling so bad, but she just couldn’t procure the words. She kept glancing over at him and found herself feeling embarrassed for some reason, even though she knew he hadn’t seen her looking.

Suddenly, just as the two were going to enter a door down to the dungeons, she stopped him. “Follow me,” she said, as he looked thoroughly bewildered. Secretly, his heart was leaping. Why was she asking him to go with her?

She led him behind a door he had never noticed before. They were alone, and above them, they could hear the murmur of students coming out of the Great Hall. He looked at her curiously. “What are we doing in here?” he asked incredulously.

Her hands were shaking; her heart felt close to palpitation. She was breathing far too fast for normal people to be breathing. He looked concerned for her health. “Hermione, are you okay?” he asked her loudly. She signaled for him to wait just a second. She took a deep breath to calm herself.

Then it happened. She reached out her trembling hand to his, shaking. His hand was cold like ice. It felt as though it had never been touched by a living being before. He nearly jumped at her touch, but instead looked down at their hands, just barely touching. His gray eyes flickered up to her face; her eyes were closed. She was scared and he could tell.

“Hermione….” he began. She opened her eyes softly.

“I was wrong, Draco,” she said, barely audible.

He looked at her gently. “Wrong about what?” he asking, taking her hand more firmly in his. He intertwined their fingers.

“I was wrong to tell you I didn’t feel the same as you felt for me,” she said. Disappointment in herself rang in her every vocal chord.

Draco’s eyes lit up. He had been waiting for this. “What are you saying Hermione?” he said hopefully.

“I’m saying,” she began, caressing his palm with her thumb softly, “That my feelings have changed. I can’t believe I ever denied you, and I’m sorry.”

Draco didn’t say a word at first. Then, reality hit him. “Hermione, we can’t be together,” he said truthfully.

Her heart seemed to crack in two. “What do you mean?” she asked. She couldn’t believe that she had put her heart out there on the line, and now he was going to turn around and reject her. Had it all been some kind of a joke?

“It’s like I just said: you’re still a Gryffindor and I’m still a Slytherin.” He looked down at his feet, letting go of Hermione’s hand. He made to walk out of the mysterious room, when he turned around to face Hermione.

Her eyes were downcast, but no tears were present. She was holding them back with all her might. “I put it all out there, Draco,” she said disappointedly, now in him and not in herself.

He couldn’t help what happened next. He rushed to her, he picked her up, he kissed her. He couldn’t believe what was happening, but she was running her fingers through his hair and he had her wrapped around his waist. She couldn’t help it; she was letting loose. She had forgotten temporarily about Harry and Ron’s anger, about all the things standing in her and Draco’s way. She didn’t care. All she cared about was that moment and his lips against hers.

They broke apart and stared at each other. Hermione smiled up at him. “We can’t deny each other,” she said. Draco nodded; it was the truth.

They stayed holding each other for quite some time, and when they walked out of that room, they had an unspoken agreement. They were together, and they intended to stay that way. It was a secret, yes, but nonetheless, they were together.

Chapter Seventeen

It was Halloween and everyone at Hogwarts had secrets. Harry and Luna were still a secret. Abrielle still secretly had a crush on her boyfriend’s best friend. Hermione and Draco were still the biggest secret of all.

Ginny Weasley, however, didn’t have a secret. She walked hand-in-hand with Neville Longbottom down the halls. Ron had reluctantly approved of Neville, knowing he’d probably be too scared to try anything.

Harry and Luna were dying for everyone to know about them. People had begun to get suspicious about Harry always “having something to do” at night when he would stalk off to go hang out with Luna. They were falling for each other more and more everyday, though they hadn’t told each other the three magic words. They wanted them to be meaningful when they did so.

Draco and Hermione were a whole different story. They didn’t want anyone to find out, be it their best friends, worst enemies, or parents. Especially Draco’s parents, that is. Hermione would probably be in some kind of mortal danger if Draco’s parents were to find out. They hated Muggles, after all, and she came from a pair of dentists.

Abrielle was struggling with herself. She didn’t want to hurt Ron, but Harry seemed to be so single. He was so dedicated to Quidditch, and she loved that. Ron was too, but he hadn’t been the youngest Seeker in a century after all.

So this day, Halloween, before the feast, Draco was in his dormitory alone. Suddenly, a large handsome owl swooped down and dropped a letter on his lap. He recognized the elegant scrawl right away as his father's. He opened it and began to read.

Draco stared at the parchment. They had found him a bride; they had been looking for one for quite some time now. What about Hermione? He couldn’t tell her this. It would crush her. He’d simply have to meet the bride and reject her, telling his parents she wasn’t at all satisfactory.

He hastily stuffed the letter in his book bag and jumped off his bed, headed to the feast.
