Chapter 1 - Autumn

Autumn, My favourite season of the year. How I love those long walks in this season, and those yellow-brown leaves that rustle below my feet. How the air has that strong autumny scent and how.... Oh I could go on and on. And with this there comes that deep pang of hurt, lonliness, vulnerability that I know resides deep down within me . I don't usually let it get over me but with Autumn it all just regurgitates up, because that was when it began... my beginning or my end... thats for you to figure out !

It had been a year I'd finished at Hogwarts, and I had been living with my parents for the past year and keeping in touch with Harry and Ron through mail. Harry and Ron were training to be aurors and by their letters I recieved they were sure having too much fun. Fun while traing to be aurors... that was kind of hard to digest but knowing Ron.... he would find fun out of nowhere and besides they were both together. And here I was at home with my parents, but there was something that I was doing, SPEW had more members now and lots of people would willingly listen to what SPEW was about, though exceptions would be there forever. I was writing up a book that would very clearly describe the aims and objectives of SPEW and how house-elves though they were living creatures just like us were treated so differently, just so because they were small and ugly and that they could be ruled or ordered to do all your nasty work without being paid. Ohhh...house-elves...thats a topic that would give me the 4th gear..talking non-stop but thats how I am....I hate to see people suppressed for no reason and more than that I hate people who seem to think that just because they've got the power they crush you. Well here I was going to tell you about what happened that autumn and here I go on blabbering about house-elves and SPEW.


Chapter 2 - A letter arrives

That day was just like anyother day. It was a beautiful morning as I looked out the window. My parents would soon be leaving for work, my parents they are dentists and successful ones at that and they have their own practice. I went down the stairs, my mother was busy preparing pancakes. She made the most delicious pancakes and blue-berry sauce.
"Good morning mum", she said.
Mrs Granger turned and smiled, "Good morning dear, I'm done here", she said indicating to the plate full of pancakes.
"There was an owl for you, he's sitting out on the window sill", she said indicating to the small owl that said there.
"I kept your letter along with the others, its on the table."
Hermione made her way to the large pile of letters lying on the table.There was this letter for her from Ron. She smiled inwardly and ripped open the envelope.

Dear Hermione,
Harry and I have got a month off from
our intense training, and we're here
relaxing at the Burrow. I hope you will be
able to join us for the month i.e. if you are
free.Do tell me if you will be joining us or
not.

P.S. Harry and Ginny say they miss you and send
you lots of love and kisses.

Love, Ron.

She folded the letter back and put it back into the half torn envelope. Trust Ron not to say that he missed her too. Hermione remembered those awkward moments between the two of them in their 7th year. There was this attraction , she didn't exactly know what it was that drew her to him, and there was this un-spoken thing left in-between. They were together but neither had said anything about this togetherness and besides in Dark times like those there were much more important things to be said and done than expressing their like for each other.
She remembered that first date with Ron. It wasn't exactly even a proper date. Harry landing himself in detention with Snape, had left the two of them to go alone to Hogsmeade. They had a wonderful time eating sweets and then going to the Hog's head for Butterbeer. The next place they'd visited was Fred and George's joke shop "Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes", which had opened up at the place where Zonko's had been once. They were completely impressed by thier stuff. By the time they had returned they'd enjoyed themselves immensely.She knew Ron liked her too and that they both hesitated being the first one to speak up.
She ran to her room, and took out her quill and wrote her answer on a piece of parchment.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the invitation and yes I'm
free, looking forward to meeting you
all. So I guess I'll see you tomorrow.

Love Hermione.
With the parchment in her hand, she ran down to the kitchen and to that weeny owl that belonged to Ron.
"Pig, heres the reply", she said.
Pigwidgeon hooted in a way that made Hermione laugh, took the letter held in Hermione's hand into its beak, and after moving in a circle about her flew out of the window.
Turning to the table, she saw her parents having breakfast.
"Morning Dad".
"Morning sweety", was his reply.
"Mum- Dad", she said looking at them, "Harry and Ron are at the Burrow on vacations and they asked me to come over for the month."
"Thats nice sweety," said her mother,"You hardly ever go out these days. I hope you have fun."

Next morning after breakfast she was all set to leave. She had packed all her best dresses besides the usual stuff. Maybe there would be something, some event during the stay when she would get to wear them. After giving her parents a hug each, she went back to her room to apparate, because apparating in front of them would be a horrific sight for them, though they respected all that magic stuff, but handling their daughter vanishing right in front of them would be difficult. She took her suit-case in her hand and crookshanks in her left arm, and in an instant she was there...just outside the Burrow.

Chapter 3 - The Burrow

She made her way to the back door that opened inside into the kitchen. The door as yet was surrounded by rusting old cauldrons and boots . She knocked on the door twice, and at once everything got drowned over by shouts and shrieks. Crookshanks ran off into the garden to chase gnomes which was his favourite activity at the Burrow. Apparently, this was Ron and Ginny fighting over who would open the door to welcome Hermione in.
When the door opened it was Ginny there and Ron right behind her.
"Hermione, its been so long", Ginny said hugging her.
Hermione smiled at her. Ginny looked beautiful and why wouldn't she. She
had Harry and they loved each other to bits. Ginny flung back her long
silky red hair from her face and beckoned Hermione inside. There was Ron
looking at her from the moment she had made her entrance and now that
she finally got herself free off that long hug from Ginny, that she looked at
him. When he saw her looking at him he said,"Hey , how you been?."
She smiled and replied,"Not bad."
They both stood there right near the kitchen door grinning at each other
stupidly. This was indeed another awkward moment between the two of
them. She turned to the sound of a loud cough from behind her. Ginny
apparently was amused by their behaviour. Ron's ears turned red and
Hermione herself felt a bit embarrassed.
"Hey Hermione, Harry's upstairs.", said Ginny.
They all moved towards the stairs and on the first landing outcame Mrs.
Weasley from a door.
"Ah..Hermione....You're here already. We hardly get to see you", said Mrs.
Weasley hugging her.
She looked at Hermione thoughtfully for a minute and finally said,"You've
become more beautiful dear", before going down the stairs.
She smiled and thanked her. 'Beautiful' , she thought,' she'd never been
beautiful, so how would the question of being more beautiful arise?'
"Ron , don't you think Hermione has become more beautiful", that was
Ginny going about.
Hermione's attention was not fixed onto the both of them and especially
at Ron, who was being looked at expectantly by Ginny who had an
innocent expression plastered onto her face, waiting for an answer.
Oh..umm..yea", came his reply finally.
And then he started climbing the stairs. The two of them following Ron
upto his room. Hermione felt as if she was floating in air.'Ron thought she
was more beautiful....'
They'd reached Ron's room and were in. Harry bunking some owl treats
into Hedwig's cage turned and saw them enter. Seeing Hemione, he came
forward and hugged her.
"Hermione, how you been", and then looked her up and down as if to see
any difference in her.
"Well you've become prettier."
With this all the rest of them laughed, Hermione included.
They sat around on Harry and Ron's beds in the room and soon Harry was
telling Hermione all about their training and the fun they had there.Soon
they were laughing at thsoe anecdotes Ron and Harry described. Hermione
thought,'Its so fun to be back with them.'

Hermione woke up to a different room. Then she remembered she was at
the Burrow and in Ginny's room. Ginny was already up and said ,"come
down soon, Mum's made breakfast", and went out the door.
She got up and dresses and slowly made her way down the stairs and into
the kitchen. They were all seated on the table and Mrs. Weasley had just
laid a huge dish of bacon and eggs on the table.
"Morning everyone", she said.
Their replies got jumbled up as they all replied at the same instant. She
went to sit down on the chair next to Ginny. After breakfast was over
Harry, Ron and Ginny were all set to have a game of Quidditch. Hermione
quickly opted out, which angered the others as they wanted a two-on
-two game. She just sat on the step outside the front door and watched
them practice. She watched Ron, he looked so mature than before and
handsomer..., her own thoughts surprised her.
'Ron ... handsomer'. She felt her heart slamming onto her chest 'Whats
happening to me? ', she thought. At that moment Ron just turned to see in
her direction and smiled in that way he did when he first saw her
yesterday. His lapse for a moment, had him paying for that, for the next
minute he got hit by a Quaffle on his shoulders. Harry and Ginny started to
laugh. Ron suddenly turned back to look at Hermione with his ears now
scarlett, and then both of them started to laugh too.

Chapter 4 - A special place...a special moment.

That evening I went for a walk. Alone. The wind was harsh when it blew against her face. Leaves were starting to fall off the trees, red and yellow. The place looked beautiful. Her hands inside the pockets of her stylish brown suede jacket, she walked remembering the events of the day. How Harry and Ginny looked perfect together and how Ron would look at her with that special look in his eyes. She had reached a clearing and saw a tree trunk that had fallen to the ground under the shade of a huge beech tree. This place was romantic. She never knew such a place existed. Walking upto the tree trunk, she felt she couldn't have found a better place.

She was deep in her thoughts when there was voice saying,"Hermione."
Startled she looked up to see the face of a concerned Ron.
"Hermione, we were all worried , we couldn't find where you'd gone to and here you are sitting all alone", he finished.
"Sorry I kinda ran out of time", she said looking at her watch which showed 7:30 pm.
It has gotten dark.
Ron moved over from the place where he was standing in front of her to sit next to her.
They sat there for what seemed like an eternity. Neither wanting to break the magic of the beautiful scene, of which they were both a part.
It wasn't until Hermione spoke up,"Ron we should get back", that theygot up from the place.
They walked back together to the Burrow. The wind had become harsher and Hermione shivered.
Ron looked at her and said," are you cold?"
"No..not much."
He took her left hand in his own. The moment he touched her she felt as if she was on fire. His hand was so warm, she wanted to be close to him. Closer.

A week had already passed and Hermione was enjoying herself to the limits after a long time. Those Ron-Ginny fights, they would have Harry and Hermione laugh like mad. Ginny would never miss a chance of Bugging Ron. At that instant Ginny was recalling that fling of Ron's with Lavender Brown.
"You were too much of a coward to break it off", she heard Ginny say.
"So I couldn't have said I've had enough of you, even though I had had enough of her",Ron retorted back.
Ginny laughed and said,"I mentioned it earlier as well, you should refine your kissing technique, though Lavander didn't seem to mind your amateur attempts."
"Shut up Ginny and mind your own business", Ron's face and ears now bright red.
Ginny taking no attention whatsoever continued,
"Did I tell you all, that I mentioned it to Lavender that Ron has a thing for pygmy puffs and that he has it for a tattoo, and she was surprised as Ron had not revealed it to her as to where its location was."
Harry and Hermione burst out laughing and Ron saying,"I'll see you Ginny", left the room.
This silenced them all, they hadnot expected such a reaction from Ron.
"Oops...did I over-do it?", Ginny now looked a tiny bit embarrassed.
"Ginny, I think Ron took it hard because of Hermione", Harry said knowingly.
Hermione looked up at him , but Harry just shrugged as if trying to say,'You must know better'.
Hermione left the room and made her way to look for Ron.He must be outside. She had a fair idea where he would be. She walked out into the woods ,through the trees and came to that clearing.
Ron had apparently heard her coming because he was looking at her.
She hesitated and then said, "Do you mind?"
Ron merely shook his head, and she walked upto him. He was sitting there on the tree trunk.
She sat down on her knees in front of him and looked up into his face. She could see hurt there, and......
She took hold of his hands and said,"Ron , please don't take Ginny seriously, she doesn't mean it all, she just loves making you mad", she finished.
He didn't reply but nodded in a knowing sort of a way.
That was the power Hermione had over him.
"You know she loves you", Hermione continued.
She saw Ron give a wry smile and montioned her to sit up next to him.
Ron wanted to say out,'Yes , she makes fun of me beacuse I'm a failure at everything...I'm not good at anything....and that is why I'm scared you will not like me Hermione' , but he could only think that.
Hermione looked at Ron, he looked so vulnerable aitting here beside her, his red hair falling onto his forehead. He looked so cute in a white tee and jeans.
"Hermione, was I that bad?", Ron asked suddenly.
"When?", Hermione not understanding what he was on about.
"About that Lavender thing."
"Oh...um...", now that Ron had brought up that topic she didnt know how to respond, " well...to be honest Ron, I avoided being there when you know..when you two were..."she left the sentence not completing it.
Ron looked sad,"You know Hermione I would never have got mixed with Lavender if I wouldn't have gotten to know something."
He looked as if he seriously condemned doing whatever he did.
"Know what Ron?", she inquired.
"Oh...nothing...just leave it. It doesn't matter anymore."
"No. It must've meant something to amke you do that", Hermione wanted to know whatever it was.
"well...um...Hermione...I...uh....well Ginny...um..she just let me know in her evil way that well...you and Krum...you people..."
"We what?", Hermione was now getting agitated.
"Well...um..that you had snogged and well that was news for me", he finished silently.
It all took a minute to sink in.
"Ron", that was all she could manage to say.
Her eyes filled up with tears. She felt her throat constrict with tears, she just couldn't find the strength to say anything more.
"Hermione...you're crying", Ron was now totally confused as to what was happening.
Making Hermione cry wasnot the thing he had predicted.
He reached to wipe off her tears. Her brown eyes were beautiful, and at that moment they looked oceans deep with all those tears.
He wanted to kiss those tears away...not just wipe them off with his hands.
"Ron", Hermione now controlling herself said, "I didn't know you felt like that, but Krum was long ago, he was only a phase in my life Ron, and...."
' You've been in my whole life uptil now....you and Harry' , she thought but didn't speak it out loud.
"and what Hermione?", Ron was looking at her with a blazing look on his face.
"Just that, you people have been in my whole life and....and I'd prefer you over Krum anyday and...,"she hadn't even finished her sentence when Ron moved close and kissed her on the lips.
She didn't know what was happening...but she was drowning...deep and deep...losing all control over her, when all of a sudden she felt back on the ground.
She opened her eyes to see that the kiss had ended and that Ron was looking at her, a little embarrassed but there was that special smile...AGAIN.

She threw her arms around him, wanting to take in everything that had happened, wanting to believe it all.
At that moment, she felt as if she was the most luckiest girl in the world.
She didn't care if anyone seeing her at this time would say she looked crazy...but for the moment she just couldn't stop herself from grinning.

Chapter 5 - A fun weekend.


The weekend had arrived and with it came Fred and George. You wouldn't recognize Fred and George from the old, if she didnt know that they were Fred and George.They dressed up in those terribly fashionable clothes that were donned by Muggle rockstars at shows than two people who were just succesful at their business. If anything was the same it was all that goofing around they did with Ron, as it had always been.
Ron looked intimidated by them and Hermione knew well that Ron had
always been under pressure to perform well, to keep up to the laurels
achieved by all his brothers.

That night , it had gotten quiet chilly all of a sudden. They were all sitting
in the living room, around the fire-place. Ginny who was terribly bored
suggested they play some game. Fred and George apparently had
something in mind , and sprang up at that instant and brought out a
basket that appeared to be small pieces of folded parchment, and
something that looked like a dog....Hermione stunned at that miniature
thing taht resembled a bull dog, Fred held in his hand.
Yes...that was a dog...but it sure was odd.
"Okay guys this is Ringo", Fred spoke indicating to that dog-thing."And
this is our new invention."
"This is a wireless radio for dog lovers", George finished.
"Hahahahaha , this is kool", exclaimed Harry.
"wow", said Ron totally overcome by that.
Hermione saw that the paws of that dog were infact buttons for
play/pause/ rewind and forward.
"This is really nice you guys", she exclaimed.
"Thanks", went George giving his shirt collar a jerk.
"So Ringo here plays music, and its not only manual, but it plays on my
command too", said Fred,"Ok...so now continuing with the game....Ringo
will play music and here",he picked up a pillow off the living room
couch"we go around passing it and when the music stops whoever lands
up with the pillow has to pick up a piece of this folded parchment and do
whatever it says"
"All set ", asked George.
"Yes!", Ginny shouted all geared up.
They all sat down in a circle on the living room floor. Hermione just
realized that Ron was next to her. He smiled when she caught his eye.
"Ringo, start now", Fred spoke up.
Music started to play as Fred yelled, "Ginny , pass on the pillow!"
And so the pillow passed between them, George looked in a special hurry
and wouldnot even take a second to pass it on forward. And Ron who was
next to George , would stumble from the blow he would get from
George's pass.
"George...", Ron looking infuriated spoke through clenched teeth," we're
passing the pillow ...if u get the point."
"Ron pass on", Harry yelled.
Ron passed it on to Hermione and it went on and on and then there was
silence.
Ringo had stopped playing.
Fred had the pillow in his hands which he was trying to shove into
George's lap, but George was quick enough for that.
They all started to shout,"Fred. Fred. Fred."
"Alright, alright."
"Pick up one", Georgr placed the basket in front of him.
Fred's hand went into the basket and out came a parchment.
"Yay....", Ginny shouted.
harry snatched the parchment out of Fred's hands and opened it up.
"HA......Kiss the person on your left", Harry read out laughing.
George who was on fred's left, shrank back towards Ron, but Ron pushed
him back towards Fred.
"Nooooooo, i can't endure your kiss", moaned George.
"You have to... you guys filled in those parchments, you have to pay for it
too, Hermione laughingly added.
"Fred get over with it quick", Harry shouted.
"Nooooo....", George totally revolted by what was going to happen said,"
quick someone please give Fred some mints, because without them...."
Fred swearing, leaned forwards and caught hold of George and said, "I'll
kiss him on the cheek", he looked at the others hopefully.
But it all went un-noticed as their voices called,"NO..NOOO"
"A proper kiss, my dear", that was Ron.
It was now pay-back time as both Fred and George never left a chance of
taking the mickey out of him.
George turned and gave Ron a nasty stare which Ron replied to with a
cruel laugh.
"George, it'll take a minute, just think about something good", said Fred.
"Yes, definitely not about this kiss",George spat back.
They all shouted with laughter.
And then it was done. Fred kissed George on the lips and then they were
both wiping their mouths as if to remove any disgusting stuff that was left
there.
The rest of them went mad at that sight, Ginny rolled about on the floor,
holding Harry. Tears streamed down Hermione's face from all that
laughing. She hadn't laughed like that in years.
"Stop it everyone, and Ringo get a move on", spoke Fred.
And on and on the pillow passed landing up now with Ginny as the music stopped.
Fred held out the basket in front of her and Ginny put in her hand and
drew out a folded piece of parchment.
She unfolded it and read out, "Imitate someone."
Ginny happy on reading that said, "Oh....thats easy,, umm...lets see I can
imitate Phlegm."
And then she got up and went upto the door, composing herself into that
Fleur like grace, she floated in towards them and landed delicately on the
floor next to Harry.
" 'Arry", she said in a phony Fleur like voice, " 'ow long eet 'as been' ", and
flipped her red hair back in a way that Fleur usually swung her silvery
blonde mane.
She leaned forwards to kiss Harry on the cheek.
" 'Arry, my seester Gabrielle steel speaks so much about you, and after ze
wedding, she theenks you would be ze best boy for her."
Everyone laughed at that perfect imitation of Fleur, who was now Bill's
wife and had been Ginny's sister-in-law for almost a year.
The music started again , the pillow in Ron's hands as he grabbed it from
George when the music stopped.
Fred and George cheered the most at this and Ron made a sick face at
them.
"Hahahaha....lets see what Ickle Ronniekins has in store for us", came
Fred's voice.
George offered Ron the basket as he pulled out a parchment.
As soon as it was out, George grabbed it out of his hands.
Hermione looked at Ron, who looked a bit worried as to what that
parchment would contain.
George swore and said, "Oh no! He's only got to sing a love song."
"What???? " , spluttered Ron.
"A love song, my dear brother", Fred repeated again with a sly smile.
Harry laughed, he knew Ron was in a bad fix, and thanked that it wasn't
him who was to sing a love song in front of Fred and George who would
remember it for centuries.
"This is not fair",Ron now red in the face said.
"Ginny got an easy one."
"I wont do it", he said stubbornly.
"Will...you WILL", boomed Fred and George.
Ron had no way out of it.
"Ron , please its all for fun", Ginny said,"Just get on with it."
Ron was all red in the face, but then he suddenly straightened and said
"Okay....endure my painful voice then", a smile starting to form at the
sides of his mouth.
We started as friends
But something happened inside me
Now I'm reading into everything
But there's no sign you hear the lightning, baby

Heres a bit more.......

Ron had finished singing, and the rest of them couldnot take their eyes off his face.
Hermione couldnot have believed that it was just Ron who had stopped singing. His voice had this strange depth in it and he had sung as if he had meant every single word.
'Did he sing this for me?' , this thought crossed her mind.
'Yes , who else would he sing it for', said this voice in her mind.
Those words began to replay in her mind.
'He'd admitted he was not good with words', she smiled to herself.
The stunned silence following Ron's song , was finally broken by Ginny as Fred and George looked at a complete loss of words.
"That was great Ron, we never knew you had a singer in you", Ginny came over and gave him a hug.
Ron looked a bit embarrassed at that extravagant praise from Ginny.
Hermione didn't know what to say, honestly was this Ron, she couldnot seem to think of anything to say. The song had stirred up her emotions inside and without knowing what she was doing, tears had started to fall off her eyes.
