Without further ado, please enjoy.  Oh, and if you don't remember what happened last...you can read the last chapter on page one. Or, to summarize, Albus and Rachel are sitting in Potions class and Albus just found a note on his desk. The Second Generation: Chapter Five Albus, What’s wrong? You seem distant. I hope the fact that we’re in different houses won’t keep us from being friends. I miss talking to you! Rachel Quickly, Albus read the note and then huddled over it, creating his response. Rachel, No, nothing’s wrong. Just…well…Slytherin doesn’t have such a good reputation. You know? I don’t want you to get mixed up in that sort of thing. Albus He gently nudged the note towards Rachel and then looked back down at his book again, trying to see her reaction from the corner of his eye…it looked she was frowning…no wait, now she was scribbling furiously fast. He looked at his book once more, pretending to ignore her, but wasn’t a bit surprised when another little piece of parchment wound up on his book. Albus discreetly unfolded it and read: What ‘sort of thing’ do you mean?! They warned me about this…they all told me that Gryffindors have a grudge against other Houses. But I said no, Albus is different. Looks like I was wrong. It wasn’t even signed but there was no doubting Rachel’s handwriting. Albus, worried now, rushed to write back, smearing some of the ink in the process. Rachel, no, you don’t understand. I didn’t come here with a prefabricated hatred of Slytherins. But – well, Scorpius and his goon tried to attack Sean and me on the train. Just so you know why I don’t like him. Plus…well…our families have never …er, been friendly. Albus stopped there and shoved the note under the edge of Rachel’s book. He watched her read it and was unable to figure out what she was thinking…until she replied. Oh. What’s there to understand, then? What do family rivalries have to do with you? Can’t you move past that? He could almost sense the anxiety and confusion Rachel was emanating through her notes. But how could explain the decade-long Potter-Malfoy rivalry through words? Albus started writing a reply but stopped when he felt someone hovering over his shoulder. Nervously, he turned his head and found himself eye-to-eye with Professor McLaggen. “Hello, m’boy, I’m just checking everyone’s notes, trying to see how well you comprehend the book,” McLaggen winked at Albus. “So, been busy writing, have you?” He pointed a pudgy finger at Albus’ ink-splattered parchment and messy book. Albus gulped. “Er, yes sir, I’ve…I’ve been diligently taking notes,” Albus mumbled, avoiding eye contact and trying to slide his note under the book. “Really boy? Let’s see them, then, for 10 points,” McLaggen gestured for Albus to show him his parchment. Albus swallowed and had no choice but to show McLaggen his half-written reply to Rachel. He slid the edge of the parchment out and prepared to show the professor the rest of it. Just as he withdrew the whole private note, the bell suddenly rang, signaling the end of lessons. Albus grinned with relief and shoved his parchment and books into his bag, effectively preventing McLaggen from seeing his lack of potions notes. “All right then, just show me your notes next lesson,” the professor nodded at Albus and then dashed up to the front of the room to post the homework, a “personal essay detailing the distinct properties of Amortentia that appeal to you.” Albus didn’t even bother to write it down, knowing the Rose Weasley would help him later, and rushed out of the room, hoping to catch Rachel and give her his last note. He just managed to catch sight of her turning a corner. “Rach—Rachel, wait up!” Albus shouted, chasing after her. “What?” she turned sharply and stared him down. “Nothing – just – just – just,” Albus slowed down and finally reached her side. “Here…take this,” he muttered, shoving the note in her hand. She glanced down at her fist and nodded, then disappeared into the crowd. Albus watched her leave and then turned to head to Transfiguration in the opposite direction. He didn’t see Rachel open the note when she turned the next corner, out of his sight. Rachel, I don’t know how to explain everything. And I hate saying that….but maybe….maybe we could discuss this outside of class? I’ll owl you later… Albus Rachel Kejoy nodded to herself and headed to the Slytherin common room with a subtle grin on her face, thinking that her plans were working out perfectly.
